  • I LOVE this fight. Top 3 in the game for me. Hope you enjoy my ramblings on it. Please also check out my uncut complete no-hit fight against her. I deleted my old one and posted a new one, because I really detested how I handled the third phase of the old one.

    General question for people, didn’t people used to complain about friede for being “too fast” or a bloodborne boss when she first came out? Similar to the complaints people initially made for many elden ring bosses?
    Great video btw, really great boss fight albeit not my personal favorite

      Not exactly sure since I came to the game a couple years after it was released, but I can see why ppl would mistakenly believe she's a Bloodborne boss, but with enough patience she reveals herself as right at home in Dark Souls :)

      This is accurate and it can actually be traced back further. People complained the same way about Manus in the DS1 DLC, and about Bloodborne, DS3 base game, DS3 DLC, Sekiro...
      People complain, the challenge run community solves the bosses hitless the solution trickle down through the community and the complaints evaporate. It's all a cycle which is a bit ironic considering the theming of the souls games...😏

      It's a pretty popular opinion. Or perhaps was. And I do think there is something to say about how fast is too fast. I think DS3 and ER are bursting at the seams toeing the line between what is too fast and what isnt. Whats reasonable and what isnt. And of course that line is blurred because that line is different for different people. Friede is absolutely mechanically fair and possible. But you could probably make a case for certain attacks being unreasonable. For example to this day I cannot dodge Godskin Noble's belly attack 😂. I dont think they can make these games much faster. Hell they even have animation canceling in Sekiro.

      The DLC always have a much higher skill ceiling. When I was playing her the first time and I didn't know about her. I always ran out of stamina and when I didn't I hardly had any to land a hit. That's when I looked up and saw people comparing her to Lady Maria. At that time I hadn't played Blood borne but I understood why she is being dubbed Lady Maria. Her speed and combos suit Bloodborne more. I eventually got tired of trying and called uncle Gael while I did the back stabbing.

    Well the background noise is definitely gone now! Anyway i wanted to say that what i love the most about the boss fight is thr transition from phase 1 to phase 2, the creepy-ish peaceful music mixed with ariandel going completely nuts after friedes death is awesome

    You know what I love about people who beat the toughest boss battles in only their first or second attempts...there's never any concrete evidence.

    Phase 2 imo is a spirtual succesor to Ornstein and Smough, its the big enemy and the small enemy trope, but this time the big enemy is fast and the small enemy is slow. And one of them hang bacj when you fight one of them, if you fight each one alone they are easy, but together theyre perfect.

    I know most fans don't share this opinion, but i don't think From Software will *ever* top Sister Friede. She is my favorite boss fight, probably ever.
    Now take a boss like Malenia, for example. She just cheats. I don't feel any satisfaction when i kill her, i just think "well, glad that bull$hit is over". Friede is hard as fvck, but I _respect_ her. I respect Isshin. And Gael. And Orphan. Why should i respect a boss that cheats?

    Beautifully written and eloquently dictated. I had to look up few of those adjectives 😂
    The first seven or eight times I beat Friede, I couldn’t do it without summoning Gael. I had to slow down and learn her moveset after banging my head into the wall. I still struggle with it but it’s manageable. Parrying her in the first phase is a must for me.

    It took me over 80 tries to beat Friede. In comparison, I figured out how to cheese Malenia within 10 tries.

    I absolutely love what you're going for on your channel.
    I also dive into combat details for the From Software line-up and more.
    I would love to have an open discussion with you on Discord if that's possible so we can trade boss combat details.

      @@jermergerg What has been your biggest challenge so far?

    • @jermergerg
      @jermergerg  18 дней назад +1

      @@Gay_Charlie For my no-hit boss run on DS3, so far the hardest were Sister Friede, Soul of Cinder, and Champion Gundyr. I am finding the Demon Princes unexpectedly difficult, just because with the two phases there's a lot of room to mess up one time and have to start over. Soul of Cinder is very easy to beat regularly, but with no damage, he has a number of poorly telegraphed combos that screwed me until I just stuck with dodging out for most of his sword attacks. I only have Demon Princes and Midir left to do, so we'll see how those go.

    • @Gay_Charlie
      @Gay_Charlie 18 дней назад

      @jermergerg Darkeater Midir is so incredibly well-designed and is still the best dragon fight in the From Software line-up in my opinion.
      It's so annoying seeing other players fight him at the feet haha.
      I'm currently working on discovering self-imposed challenges viability on Stellar Blade. It's going pretty well so far.
      It's a shame that most people will rush through it without looking at the incredible combat details of the boss fights.

    When the Ashes are two, a flame aligteth. And who wrote the old English dailogues. That alone makes the DLC well worth.

    It wasnt that bad only like 40 attempts

    I'm not actually a huge fan of this boss TBH.
    P1 is really easy, P2 is a boring slog and P3 is one of the best fights in the series bit it's soured by how incredibly tedious it is to have to redo the first two phases just to get a crack at learning it. This incentivizes boring ass safe strategies like staying away from her and backstab fishing.
    That's just my opinion though. I've been saying forever that I need to get back to DS3 and do some more training with this boss to see if my opinion improves but I can't put ER down lol. I'll get to it eventually 😂
    Good video!

    • @jermergerg
      @jermergerg  19 дней назад

      Thanks! And for sure there's a huge difference in enjoyability level before and after cracking it. Early on, it sucks to redo the phases to get to phase 3, but eventually they get pretty easy and you can blast through, especially if you're not trying to do a challenge run like hitless.
