  • What does it take to unravel the mysteries of Drangleic and the Lands Between? This video discusses the unique take both games have on knowledge, study, and the cruelty that comes with the endless pursuit of understanding. The characters Gideon Ofnir, The All-Knowing and Aldia, Scholar of the First Sin are the main vehicles for these themes. Thanks for watching!

I think Aldia fighting the Bearer of the Curse at the end of DS2 SotfS was meant in part to be a way for him to finally die and be at peace after providing the necessary guidance/knowledge needed to carry his vision forward. He fights in a rather lackluster way that is reminiscent of King Allant's pathetic true form at the end of Demon's Souls. It seems like his intent was to be slain to finally end his endless pursuit after fulfilling his purpose, and possibly to test the Bearer of the Curse in some way. This juxtaposes with Gideon at the end of ER quite nicely, since he seems to be fighting from a place of fear and ego, self-righteously believing he's earned his place at the top with the countless years he's poured into his ill-fated pursuit of knowledge. Aldia sees the true way of things and humbles himself to it, while Gideon desperately clings to what he wants and dies in a very undignified way.

The idea that Gideon may have glimpsed the intent of *Radagon* (or maybe the tug of war between Radagon/Marika) is such a quality insight.

He most likely did. Radagon is pretty much the remnants of the Giants condensed into one Zealot. Looking into his mind would destroy folks. Imagine downloading the entirety of Land's Between's conflicts and war. The flashing of lives being lost? I know I'd cave in.

Imagine Aldia and Gideon sitting at a table together drinking Tee and pondering over the Meaning of Life and the World...
wouldn´t that be something to behold

One, met the dark with learning. But in the end, learned his knowledge was wanting. The world began without knowledge, and without knowledge will it end. Fear not the dark, Gideon

Aldia is easily my favorite NPC in any game. As for my interpretation of his fight, he starts it with "Give us your answer.", an interesting phrasing on account he is alone and is about to fight you. Albeit he has other voices whispering some words and lines mixed in with his own main voice, so maybe that could be why he says "us"???
I believe it's either a test, or your battle will spell out your will and intentions.
All I know is, I wish there was more Aldia.
But great video, and look forward to seeing the Vendrick one.

I agree with the intentions aspect. I think that could’ve been better demonstrated if we had the option to not fight him and leave the throne of want or fight him to get to the throne of want. I wish he had a bigger role too, I wish we could’ve gone into a giants memory or something and see what he was like before. He would’ve been a great addition to ds3 as well beyond a vague description on soul stream. Thanks for checking out the video and the Vendrick video is definitely coming.

Just finished binge watching your series so far. Thanks a lot for making these vids! I noticed some of these similarities as well while playing, especially the Shanalotte/Melina parallels. I hope this series will go on for some time and you get the views you deserve.

Another very interesting thing about Gideon is that when he is beat, he says "I know it in my bones" that a human can kill a god etc. He doesn't say that he knows it from some book or from some source, in the very end he uses his experience since he doesn't know if a human can or cannot kill a god.
His knowledge fails him in that moment.

    • @xLevelT
      @xLevelT  10 дней назад +1

Definitely, miss chalice’s video on Gideon highlights that concept well if you haven’t seen it. I agree with your interpretation for sure, he lost all logic and sense in that moment. Thanks for checking out the video!

Aldia was an Archmage of Lindelt who sought a True Monarch, like Yuria.
Lindelt's "Project Monarch" involved producing suitable wives for Monarchs from the shards of Manus, and using them to generate conflict that would produce yet greater Monarchs - they were successful with Nashandra (who successfully supplanted Vendrick and became worthy of the Throne of Want) and Alsanna (who inspired The Ivory King to contain the Old Chaos, and contained it herself in his stead after he succumbed to it).
Lindelt recruited Aldia because of his work on recreating Dragons and on studying the First Sin (the murder of the Dragons); Lindelt were originally founded by the Drakebloods, who attempted to slay Sinh.

I didn't realize that the siblings had a falling out. This is the first time I've heard about this. I assumed that Aldia went into solitude on his own volition.

Aldia’s key description: “Key used in the mansion of Aldia.
King Vendrick condemned his own elder brother to the mansion.
They both sought the truth, but through different means, and their fervor meant the eventual withering of their familial ties.”

I swear that its not just ds2 connecting to elden ring, every so often im making many connections between the dark souls games and elden ring, im really just waiting for somebody to make a video linking all of the connections, for example just recently i noticed the "twisted wall of light" spell of ds3, read the description of that spell and tell me it doesnt connect to elden ring and the golden order. Nevermind the fact that these spells are labelled "golden" sorceries, the description itself seems like its giving a keen insight to the golden order (or at least a possible insight) of elden ring: "A closely-guarded light manipulation spell that contorts the very fabric of fundamental laws, negating magic by denying its claim to physicality". C'MON, golden order fundamentalists?? The union of rennalla and radagon and the following actions, and if you notice renallas moon helmet it has a series of x's surrounding it?? (Thereby denying magics claim to physicality??) I'm preeety sure (the more i see) that these games are connected. Most likely whats happening is that miyazaki is bringing a continuation between his games, but I believe looking back at the dark souls games will give us some greater context of the lands between, the community just needs to put in the work of making the connections, it took quite a while for us (the community) to formulate the most likely theories of the souls games, and i believe we may have a massive greater contexual storyling to piece together. I could very well be wrong, but if im not that would be amazing.

    • @xLevelT

They are for sure, I see the ds2 dna in elden ring the most. I think when the same studio evolves on itself, the games will have similar themes and concepts. I plan on going through as many connections as I can since I find this more compelling to investigate versus summarizing the story that other channels have done better than I ever could. Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your insights!

@@xLevelT I find these games fulfill such a specific niche that I cant help but try to dig deeper, I personally enjoy mystery and intrigue when it comes to storylines and so the way that it was done with the souls games fulfilled that niche along with the gameplay, I know I very much enjoyed following through with the way the community tried piecing together the story as best they could throughout the years and so I suppose ill say that's where I'm coming from when it comes to trying to search for connections, either way whether something fruitful comes from all of this (any video or lore discussion) or not I'd say that the engagement of the community is where the fun is to be had, and so I'll say that I appreciate that you are willing to add "fuel to the fire" so to speak and engage with the growing and ongoing community :]
