    actually, aldritch's music is a reference to gwyndolin from dark souls 1, a similar deal with the plin plin plon, since aldritch literally ate gwyndolin and merged his body with his, and uses most of his attacks

    You put into words very well how I feel about the Twin Princes. Such a great boss fight. I felt "meh" about it when progressing, but playing as Spear of the Church has been the most fun I've had in the Souls series so far.

    soul of cinder phase 2 is worth an A tier and the realisation that it adopts Gwyns moveset and theme is a masterclass of fan service without pushing it overboard. Phase 1 feels like a pvp fight to me though.

    I do think the point of Soul of Cinder is that it lacks character. In a sense, it's the First Flame gaining consciousness after so many lords refused to link it. It's desparate to survive, which is why it attempts to use the power of the previous souls that linked it. You could see it as life trying to imitate art without knowing what made that art so special, and that to me is what the character of the Soul of Cinder represents. It wants to survive, but it doesn't know the first thing about actually living because it spent it's entire existence at the Kiln of the First Flame. At least that's my perspective of it

    • @jermergerg

      I think that's a great and thoughtful perspective, and I don't disagree! I guess my thing is that there can be a good reason for something without making the experience enjoyable, which is how I feel about him. Just my opinion though!

    Finally someone who understands the dancer pain.. she absolutely annihilated me.. easy S for me at this point, I love everything about it.
    Old Demon King appreciation Yeey, honestly underrated Boss solid B :D
    I literally started playing the series because of the "Curse rotted greatwood" and I like dodging its attacks (besides the poison), so uuhh I quite like the boss (design and music are also great imo)
    Twin Princes are just peak.
    Soul of Cinder is just a peak boss, second favorite in main game, I love all 4 phases, I love no hitting him and SL1 fighting him, the music and arena is perfection, its just a perfect end to the series.
    Demon Prince is probably my 4th favorite boss in the game, superb gank phase 1 (A bit too tanky on low dmg runs) but that is nothing compared to one of the best phases ever, the 2nd phase. Music goes completely insano, all the moves from the demon prince are so fun to dodge (both versions of it) its just SO good.
    Halflight is Bottom 10 in the series, maybe "top" 5 worst, atrocious in every way
    Gael is just a boss that's it's hard to explain, ofc I always remember it being peak, but playing it is truly one of the most special experiences you can get in gaming, highest S possible and easily top 10 ever (which at this point is high af praise)
    Anyway, great video keep it up! :D

    Regardless of what tier each boss is there is one thing common to all. They are all very memorible whether it is for the design, lore or attack pattern learning curve or the overall difficulty. If all of the souls community were to come together I am pretty sure everyone of us will have something to say or a story to tell about what they thought about the boss or how they mastered it or merely made it out alive.
    This is something I didn't feel as strongly about the Elden Ring bosses. The bosses in this game are absolutely the highlight (and half the reason for them to exist is Bloodborne.)

    10:31 Parrying exists in a quantum state, simultaneously "too hard, only for experts" and "too easy, trivializes the boss." Can't it ever be a normal move where you push a normal button

    I'm glad to see someone who also does not care for Cinder all that much. Thought I was going crazy when you see nothing but universal praise for him. His fight is great on paper, but in practise I never found his attacks fun to dodge. Many of his attacks with completely different timings just look completely the same, and his body is animated in this weird way, where mid combo, he goes into stance that looks pretty much identical to his idle animation only to throw a random follow up at you. I just don't see anything cool or memorable about his first phase. Just a lifeless "robot" with extremely generic swings and flashy sword.
    His phase 2 is much better, but then again, It's just slightly refined Gwyn's moveset. I always found it ridiculous people always put Cinder into S tier (and generally shit on Gwyn), when the best part about Cinder literally is Gwyn's moveset. I suppose it all comes down to most people playing DS3 first, and/or never learning to fight Gwyn without parry.
    There is also the fact that Cinder is arguably the weakest final boss in any souls game + sekiro narrative wise... I mean literally the only climactic part about him is the Gwyn throwback, which you have no way of recognizing from DS3 alone. And sure, I understand that there are some counterarguments to be made, but if you consider all the other final bosses, especially in DS1 and Sekiro (Bloodborne too depending on which final boss we consider), then Cinder just feels really weak in comparison.

      Respect your opinion, just wanna say that most people that have bothered to learn the cinder fight in depth (for hitless or something else), will agree that it is the most fun fight in the game(also the hardest). I could literally fight him for hours and probably not get bored (:

    • @FIN791998
      @FIN791998 11 дней назад

      @@parthenon5106 oh no, I understand people feel this way. He is just one of those bosses you have to learn to fight well enough in order to really enjoy and appreciate. I just don't like when bosses or mechanics gatekeep fun untill you memorise their moveset to certain level nor do I think such boss could ever make it to top tier. I feel like the fun factor before mastering the fight is something that is heavilly undervalued in the souls fandom, which is quite apparent when you look at the initial criticism of Elden Ring bosses and how that bitterness changed overtime.
      There is also the fact that people who would put Cinder as a top tier boss often completely shit on Gwyn eventhough his moveset is pretty much identical (besides like 3 extra moves) to p2 Cinder, and this hypocricy soured my opinion on Cider a lot.
      Aside from that though, I can understand why people (and especially vets like him).

    In defense of halflight, yeah the npc encounter is pretty bad and genuinely cancerous on sl1, however the online version at the recommended level for ringed city is a fun pvp fight and the painting guardians and the spear fragment ability are there to seperate gank squads / give the invading spear an fair advantage since they can’t use their estus. Also Champion Gravetender is a better designed duo boss than any duo in Elden Ring.

    Halflight is annoying but PvP aspect is pure cancerous. I don't think From Soft has made a mandatory pvp centered boss which is fair. The Monk and Halflight both are bullshit but I still find the PVE fight much better than an actual player. Also Patches is available for summon and there is every reason to summon him. This is his last appearance in Dark Souls trilogy and Halflight's painting guardians are equally as stupid as Halflight himself.

  • @BBQcheese
    @BBQcheese 25 дней назад

    IDK why you think you're not qualified to rank bosses...? It's a matter of opinion and the only qualification is that you've beaten them.
    I think different experiences will obviously impact a person's opinion. For example, I strongly agree with what you said about Cinder and for the same reasons.The community generally favors him highly but I think it's B tier at best and probably C.
    I disagree about Abyss Watchers and Aldrich though. The former I'd probably put in C tier as well, and that's mostly the cinematics doing the heavy lifting because the mechanics are pretty bad. It's just not interesting on repeat attempts for me. It's very easy, but also unengaging due to spending large amounts of time just running around (evidenced by your footage) it just doesn't have that rhythmic back and forth. Aldrich I'd put in F, I loathe this encounter, I hate the arrow attack and how RNG it can be (he usually won't do it if you stick close to him but sometimes he just does it anyway) I hate the little floating projectiles, I hate how his melee attacks are poorly telegraphed and he often clips into walls when doing them. Honestly, Aldrich is just a way worse version of Elden Beast imo...
    Old Demon King I'd have in D tier. He's just so underwhelming. I melted him hitless SL1 first try after not playing the game for years. This boss desperately needed some kind of get off me mechanic similar to Godrick because you can literally just stand in front of him and dumpster him and he can do nothing to stop you.
    For me Champion Gundyr and Dancer are easy S tier fights. Champ does such a good job at being an extremely difficult boss being made easier through parries which most players still find satisfying to pull off.
    You are spot on about Oscieros imo, I'd put him on F as well.
    Half-light is the worst boss in the game and possibly the series. It's just irredeemably and offensively terrible. Fromsoft plz stop making these types of encounters! Gideon is equally bad and if not for being able to easily cheese him while he's yapping might even be worse than Half-light.
    Also, Midir is much better than Placi imo.
    I said too much already and I could keep going. I just love discussing these bosses. I'll stop there though sorry for being annoying.

    • @jermergerg
      @jermergerg  25 дней назад +1

      You're not annoying, I love talking about them and hearing other perspectives! One thing I will say is that I recorded the abyss watchers footage early in my no-hit run, and I have gotten a lot better at the game since then, and now I can fight them in a much more engaging way that doesn't involve any running around. With more aggression, I've found it a much more enjoyable fight.

    • @jermergerg
      @jermergerg  25 дней назад +1

      In fact, I'm going to officially insist you stop apologizing for being annoying. I've never once found you to be so :D

    • @FIN791998
      @FIN791998 25 дней назад +1

      I would somewhat disagree with your take on Abyss watchers. Yes, the fight is mostly spectacle and can be very annoying in the first phase. However, it is incredibly satisfying to just run over their jump in p2 and go for a backstab. I think its great that we get a boss centered around this playstyle instead of the constant dodging most other top tier bosses focus on, which especially after Elden Ring started to get really old imo. Then again though, Friede has similar jump-backstab mechanic to abyss watchers and she is a much better fight overall. B or A (at most) is certainly justified though I think, C might be a bit too low.
      As for Gundyr and Dancer, they are certainly top tier fight in the base game and no basegame boss should be a tier higher. On the other hand you might want to leave some separation there to not bloat S tier, and leave that spot to only Friede, Midir, and Gael.
      With everything else I completely agree.

    • @BBQcheese
      @BBQcheese 25 дней назад

      @@jermergerg
      I wanna see that footage, even the worlds best runners spend a lot of time running away. I just think it's necessary at some points. Hopefully it didn't seem like I was criticizing your gameplay because I wasn't trying to.

    • @BBQcheese
      @BBQcheese 25 дней назад

      @@FIN791998
      I mean that's all fair, I don't really get the shot at ER but aside from that... I guess I don't find backstab fishing all that engaging personally and I've definitely criticized Friede for the same thing so I am consistent in this. I will say though that Friede is an engaging boss without backstabs where I don't think the same applies to Abyss Watchers. Maybe it's a skill issue on my part but I've talked to several challenge runners who agree.
      I should add that my perspective is largely coming from doing challenge runs. The argument could be made that Dancer or Champ Gundy don't belong in S with Gael and while they both lack spectacle when contrasted against Gael I think both are comparable in their mechanical depth which is where the satisfaction is comes from for me personally.
      For this reason as well I wouldn't personally have Midir in S tier. He's high A tier as he's extremely consistent and well made but rather mechanically simplistic and easy which makes him less interesting to return to imo.
