Thanks for watching 🙏
Wow! I am very proud people like you are sharing ,researching, discovered news thing that we don't even know too much. That's a experience
Thanks for this comment Forzia. I have recently made another video about the cost of living as prices have risen drastically:ruclips.net/video/hQa5Bbn9XGc/видео.html
Good for someone to have taken this trouble to 'educate/inform' others giving a fair realistic indication of what to expect.
Thanks Sam!
It's been a long time since I left Mauritius and all these information are very useful because I was thinking of relocating there again!
Thanks Jude. I’m glad this was useful for you. Wishing you all of the best.
This is one of the best done videos I’ve seen lately. You’re really skilled at your craft. As a frame of reference, I work in the TV station.
Thanks very much. I worked for many years in tv before starting a RUclips channel!
Thank u so much Lucy....I always wanted to have these resourceful info as I havent been to Mauritius in 20 yrs....n all that u share will definitely help me as am planning to relocate back to my homeland Mauritius ❤😘
A pleasure Manisha!
Now that's a useful video. Great info, beautifully edited. Thanks
Thanks Matias! Very much appreciated.
I'm willing to come Mauritius within next few months. Your videos are so much helpful for me.. thanks a lot
That’s awesome. Thanks for watching.
It's actually so expensive that it is almost half the price of where I live ;-) For any Americans/Europeans those costs are dead cheap. I you have a business on Internet this is the place to be, cheap taxes and cheap cost of living. Talking about the taxes, 15% is unheard of in Europe. In Belgium where I live it's more like 50% and the cost of living is double... making a 4x advantage on the ratio earnings/cost of living...
Yes, Europe is more for certain things. I’d argue the food cost is less though as the fresh produce is way better in Europe. It’s extremely expensive here for locals though. I really don’t know how many people survive.
Another informative video, thanks Lucy. Was kinda expecting the prices except for petrol -that was a shocker! At least for the RSA, in Europe not so much.
Jon
Thanks Jon. Food still gets me here...
Thanks Lucy, very informative as always!!!
Very good !
These informations are precious for me
Thank you so much Lucy 🥰
Only a pleasure Christine.
Hi Lucy. Thank you for your content. We are a young South African family living in Cyprus but looking to visit Mauritius soon and perhaps relocate. Appreciate your time!!
Thanks very much!
Did you make the move?
Very honest and informative video. All the rates you’ve mentioned are actually right. The most expensive spend here is indeed food.
Food gets me every time...and wine! Still, great to live here though.
@@LucyLeheilleix oh yes wine and beer. You should try flying dodo beers if haven’t yet. Beers and island life go so well.
Great quality keep it up.
Another great video Lucy Thank you for giving us real info
Hey Anton! Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it useful :)

Very detail and informative. Good. Wish to know more about work and settle in Mauritius.
Thanks for your support Charles. 🙏
Always precious informations thank you so much !!!🙏
Thanks so much. I try my best 😉
Great video Lucy, very informative indeed, as of the prices, I would say they are quite comparable with western europe, I am from Germany and I found the prices reasonable :)
Thanks for letting me know.
Hello Lucy. Thank you for the excellent video. I hope my earlier suggestion on what topics to film was one of the motivators for this :) It must have been challenging and you must have done a lot of research, thanks for that! You can see by the reactions that it was worth it. I'm buying coffee :)
Thanks for the idea and for the coffee too!
You really did a good job ...this video is really helpful...for all of us ❤
Thanks so much. I’m really glad it was helpful!
Thank you for that! I enjoyed it immensely and very helpful!!!
Thanks very much. I have an updated video on the cost if living too. Check that out as prices have sky rocketed.
Another great video very informative would like to see more like this hello Lucy any chance you can do a video about beau plan ? And mahogany shopping promenade thank you
Thanks for watching Callum. I’ll see if I can get out to beau plan!
Housing and appartments costs a bit less in Beau Bassin, Rose Hill and Curpipe. Winners and Lolo supermarkets the prices of stuff there are alright compares to Tang and Intermart
Thanks Lucy, very detailed and helpful
Only a pleasure Maza.
Good stuff- I think you should do a video for expat retired couple
Very Informative. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for your video! Very informative!
Thanks for watching!
@lucyLeheilleix More videos please Lucy - maybe one about living on a boat anchored off the shore of Mauritius (Pros & Cons) Thanks for a great honest down to earth channel
Very helpful…thank you for the information!
Only a pleasure!
Thanks Lucy
Great info, pretty much on par with Oz. But I guess the income is different. So maybe I can still retire there 🤔😊
Hi Patrice. Some people earn very well indeed here, depends on the job (IT and finance are top jobs) and the company. I put in the minimum wage as it’s important to realise that this place can be expensive. Thanks for the comment.
Great video, very informative!
Thanks very much.
Very informative thank you Lucy see you soon xx❤
Only a pleasure 👍
Thanks for your video on the cost of living in Mauritius. Unfortunately cost of living is skyrocketing around the world with the cost of energy rising. I can imagine how life can get even difficult for Mauritians on low to medium salary since lot's of products are imported. The costs of living in Australia is also rising as inflation biting us hard. The cost of Petrol is around $2.20 - $2.40 and Diesel $2.25 - $2.50 Litre and at some point there were talk of running out of electricity in the Eastern part of Australia. Fortunately crisis were averted, but there is talk of a sharp increase in electricity and gas bill which does not bode well for the future.
Too true. I have just done a new video on this very topic…

Thanks very much Keshav! Enjoy your weekend!

Thank you for the video I want to study abroad in Mauritius for PhD in Anthropology in the future . I am right now majoring in a bachelors degree in Anthropology at university.
That’s great Luke. Where are you currently based?
@@LucyLeheilleix I am currently living in Pennsylvania with my parents . I am commuting everyday to school
Thank you maam its very uhelpful for us god bless you 😊😊
Thanks Rupal!
And for the insurance it depends on what type of insurance you want like for cars or health maybe swan would have a better price and my parents are in the insurance business these one insurance company that is really cheap but doesn’t corporate with other insurance companies love your vids❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much for the comment. Insurance is a tricky one as there are so many options out there with varying prices. I do find though that international health cover is a must - if one can afford it. Keep well :)
@@LucyLeheilleix hi rs 15000 to rs 18000.private sector industry
Nice one, well made
Thanks 🙏
I genuinely wish you’d say the usd amounts as well as rupees - I sat down to listen to this but had to studiously watch it as I had absolutely zero idea what the currency amount was in my terms. You’re addressing an English speaking audience so it would be hugely helpful. Thanks.
Try using the chapters, then you can jump straight to each category and the USD will be on screen 😊
Great Video many thanks
Thanks for watching Mark.
Great video. 2023/24 version? And also maybe in ZAR? 😊
Hello! You might find this useful….
ruclips.net/video/hQa5Bbn9XGc/видео.htmlsi=m1FOKpAmcDSih7UX
Lucky you don't have to heat the pool water, because the country is so warm
I don’t swim in pools in winter. Too cold for me 😅
this info is very useful, It's become more clear that life for me in the UK is just economically unfeasible. I let out my one bedroom flat for more than the average wage in Mauritius, while living with my parents to save up. I could pay off the mortgage right now but it still leaves me at square one because the inflation here means that I'm always out of reach of being able to buy a house.
It would be nice to know about expat groups for various hobbies and social stuff, are there people out there interested in stuff like model engineering, radio controlled aircraft, painting/drawing, paragliding, sailing etc. Its one thing moving to Mauritius to escape the UK but is there enough intellectual stuff going on to keep me sane out there?
I think as long as one can get off the island from time to time, you'd be fine here. There are expat groups on facebook and online like expat Mauritius where you can definitely meet people. There is good sailing and paragliding for sure :)
You can fly your small plane clockwise around the island, then anti-clockwise if you get bored of that. LoL, small island life suites me just fine. I can find copious amounts of intelligence on RUclips. I did see they have a R/C car racing club on tarmac. So there must be a R/C model plane club somewhere. I guess it will not be very regulated and you will have the freedom to fly they way you like without all the red tape rules.
Great video! Thank you for sharing these details. Is there a large US expat group in Mauritius?
Hi Tanya. We know a few US diplomats here, but I think generally there are only a few on the island. Are you planning on moving to Mauritius?
Thank you very much. paul from canada see you soon
How’s Canada Paul? Are they relatively free now?
@@LucyLeheilleix we are finally starting to open up here in Toronto Canada. Still semi lockdown. I am planning on moving to mauritius with my family want to relax now.
Mauritius lockdown here yea also is fine covid 19..... please say samthing watch from India.... ❤️❤️
Great! If you need any advice for your automotive needs, whether you want to buy/sell your car, service, repair or respray your vehicle. We are from The Car Connexion (Autograph) in the north of the island, we’ll be glad to assist.
Thank you Cedric!
Thanks Lucy, your videos are great. I'm wondering if organic foods are widely available there? ty
Thanks for the comment. There are organic foods, but certainly not as easy to find as in Europe.
Hiya Lucy - this is so informative. Thank you. We are planning to come over on the premium visa ( from SA). I hear that the public education is very good. Is it advisable to join a public primary school ? Our kid is 5 and going to gr R this year) and obviously her main language is English. SO am concerned re the French- Creole difference. Thanks again Lauren
Hi Lauren. Most expats go with private schools tbh. The public education is very good, but it just seems that expats would fit in better from a socio economic perspective. I hope that helps?
Lucy this is very informative & much appreciated.. I’ll be visiting soon what’s the best time to visit?
I made a video on this topic. Here you go: ruclips.net/video/I2bd9vMEJNY/видео.html
deeper information i love that
Thanks you 🙏
Hi Lucy,
We absolutely love your channel.
BIG Thank You!
We are looking into possibly moving to Mauritius next year February.
Have you done an updated Cost of Living ?
Also, we are keen to rent a 1 to 2 bedroom apartment for a month or 2. Do you have any suggestions?
Regards,
Grant
Thanks Grant for stopping by. Great that you’re thinking of coming here. Depends on where you’re moving from, but we find food expensive here. No updated video…..yet….
Do email me as I perhaps have a short term place you may like in Le Morne. 👍🏻
You have awesome videos Lucy! You are truly an artist. I am now a subscriber. Are you a full-time RUclips film maker while living in Mauritius? Basically how do you make the majority of your income? Thank you in advance!
Hi Ryan. Thanks very much for watching and welcome to the channel. I am a full time video creator. Sadly RUclips doesn’t pay much 😝
@@LucyLeheilleix Thank you for your quick reply! May I ask is most of your film making local, online or foreign work?
Well done video.
Thanks very much
Thank you for this valuable information. We are looking to move to Mauritius in 5 years and was wondering how much income would you need to have each month to live a fairly comfortable life in Mauritius? Considering that we have already purchased a house there, so I am talking about food, bills, fuel for cars etc. Thanks
Do check out my newer video on this topic as prices have really gone up!
Good one thanks
Thanks so much!
Loving your videos thank you.... I am 64 single male, no family and looking to retire and just rent a place and buy a car whilst there... would have a budget of at least $25000 a year, so from this video I am guessing I'd be okay with that... once again thank you... I'll get you a coffee sorted... 🙂
64 with no family is just sad
Very educative
Thanks. A hard one to create as everyone has different salaries, lifestyles and living expenses!
Your content and this video are really insightful. Thank you, Lucy!
I would like to ask, how much do devices like laptops, cameras, etc. cost?
Hi there. Do have a look online at sites like 101 multimedia and priceguru.mu. Good luck.
@@LucyLeheilleix Thanks a lot, Lucy!
Well Elaborated..
Thanks 🙏
For the clothing I person buy my clothes in other countries because it is cheaper like in London
Clothes are cheaper elsewhere for sure. Only problem is, with covid, we've been stuck here unable to move :) Anyway, at least beaches are opening up again next week! Thanks so much for watching.
Thank you 😊👍.
Would a scooter be a viable option for transportation? Is beef and lamb widely available in the supermarket?
Hi John. A scooter would be ok, but just watch out for crazy drivers and the rain. Beef is easier to get. Lamb would be something I would buy at a butcher.
Very helpful thanks
I’m very glad it has helped you!
@@LucyLeheilleix yeah we are serious about coming over soon, looking for the right people to connect with
Lovely. Thank you.
Any chance you are keen to do a parity based assessment? For example, the cost of a basket of groceries, fuel and such in Rupees and then do the Rand comparison for South Africans. Exchange rates help for those who earn their Rands in/from South Africa, but if one earns locally, what’s the true cost of living?
South Africa is much cheaper for groceries (for most items). Mauritius is similar in cost to France. Most South Africans will find Mauritius to be very expensive, especially where property is involved as the rand is so weak.
Which is why I ask what PARITY is.
Interesting thanks
What is the average salary of administer?
Is this a freely convertible the Rupee?
Very helpful info - what about liquor prices? 🍾🍷🍸🍹🍺🥃 I have a bad habit...
Alcohol is very expensive 🫣
@@LucyLeheilleix I thought we bought at the wrong places. SuperU, Winners, etc are not cheap at all. Thought the locals had a secret
TQVM!
Thank You!
Are places for everyday living easily accessible by bus or by foot? If I wanted to rent a car for a day to explore and do an excursion, what is the average daily car rental price?
I would highly recommend renting a car if you want to get the most out of your trip here. Do check out car rentals at the airport (such as Hertz, thrifty and Avis. All are available online for prices. Otherwise cabs are an easy option too. It all depends where you are staying. Good luck Charmaine.
I wish to travel to Mauritius 🇲🇺
Very nice
Thanks very much for watching!
How did Covid affect living in Mauritius in the past two years? What are the current restrictions?
Hi there. Covid has deeply affected many businesses and households. We've seen many people leave the island. Current restrictions require mask wearing in public places, social distancing and vaccinations are mandatory. I'm hoping for change in 2022. Have a Happy New Year.
Ale vaccinations mandatory for adults only? How does it looks for kids ?
Every time I go to mauritius, I find to live comfortably, il need around €2000 a month, but then I still remember the days when we use to live on Rs500
The point is the more you earn ,the more you spend
Absolutely right. Thanks for the comment 🙏
The prices were better than in America. The average income was much lower. Too much lower for it to work for most people.
What about living over on the East side in BEAU CHAMP by the resorts? I am 57, active and single but I want a big house since I have a big family and friends that visit.
The east is nice, but more remote. Poste Lafayette would be nice, but it is always windy. It’s more sheltered on the west 👍🏻
good
Thank you 👍
A pleasure Karl!
Couldn't buy you a coffee.. link is broken. Great content btw.
Thanks Eddy! Will try and fix that link :)
www.buymeacoffee.com/home Not sure if this one works? Anyway, thanks for watching.
Hi Lucy,
Perhaps you might know a good car rental company in Mauritius?
Hi Spencer. Have a look at car rentals at the airport. That’s probably the easiest.
@@LucyLeheilleix Thank you Lucy 👍
Thank you!Just one question, where did you find 300$ rent a car for one month?Usually is much more expensive
Hi Petar! Rs15000 is what we paid when we moved here and seems to be a common rate on the forums. I guess it also depends on the car. This was for a small Nissan. I hope that helps?
@@LucyLeheilleix thank you so much.I remember when i rented for week on my vacation, and it was around 150$,also small car.I guess I should look better deals next time:),thank you so much!
Usually it's Rs1000 per day for a small car (1000 - 1300 cc), which makes you Rs30K for a month. But since you are renting for a whole month, they'll rent it with a reduction for say Rs20K (or 15K in case of Lucy) ... Instead of going through a big agency (Hertz, ABC, etc), find the best deal on Facebook!
