- Moving country can be daunting, and finding a school can be particularly difficult. I make this decision a bit easier for you by sharing the top private schools in Mauritius. I also give you a basic guideline about the general level of education on the island.

Heyy Lucy! I'm a mauritian who goes to Lycée LaBoudonnais and you explained very well all the schools in mauritius as well as the way we do. I would like to say that Lycée Labourdonnais is now an International school which we mostly speak french... I really appreciated your video! Keep going!
My children attended Lighthouse since reception and they are now in grade 5 & 6. It is a very good school with dedicated teachers. I recommend LPS.

I went to Le Bocage Private International school in Moka. Brilliant school. If you go to Le Bocage you do not need to learn French. Classes are in English. You can do Afrikaans as a language, very helpful if you move to Mauritius with High School age children.

@@apete797 hi there. They are in private schools. It is pretty much expected that (as an expat) you send your kids to a private school. That said, I did see some asking over on Facebook about sending their kids to a local school. It depends on your budget and what suits your family. The level of education is very good in local governmental schools too.

@@LucyLeheilleix do they still only have that one night club that's always closed? I used to drive up to grand bay along the costal road to get there when we could get out hands on a van and to this day I've still never been!
Could you please tell me more about these schools. Do they take on NQT? Do they run a PGCE with the MIE? are there many expatriate teachers? Is there any schools in the east please? Do they teach Kreole in these private schools? Are all schools bilingual?
Hi Adi. Do check out the websites of the schools as there are too many to single out. International schools teach predominantly in English with French as an additional subject (or other foreign languages). French schools teach in French with an English section. Kids are encouraged to be bilingual.
There are no private international schools on the east coast as this area mainly only has a few hotels and villages.
Kreole is something my kids pick up from everyday social interaction. 😀

Hi Lucinda. I’d send her to an international school that does IB and IGCSE’s. Try Northfields, west coast, bocage. Good luck 👍🏻

Hi Lucy. We are relocating from Cape Town next year and our kids are in public school here. Is private schooling the only option for expats? I have found St Nicholas Grammar school which is more in our budget, but I cannot find any others in this price range on the island.
Hello! Yes, private schooling is certainly advised. Public schools are excellent, but expats are expected to pay for schooling. The island has got very, very expensive…
@@LucyLeheilleix thanks so much. We are happy to pay for schooling but would prefer to stay under the Rs10 000 per child mark. So far I've found St Nicholas grammar school to be in our budget. Do you know of schools in a similar price range? My kids are grade 4 and 10 next year.

I would recommend West Coast Secondary otherwise one has to drive to Moka to the French schools.

Please could you advise if there is a school for special needs children to teach them a trade to which they can be self sufficient. I have a niece who has finished school but we looking at putting her in a programme to assist her in further achievements

All kids do French at school, yes.
@@LucyLeheilleix I’m doing my 9th in India, I’ll have to study an extra year if I come to Mauritius cause I’m gonna go to university back in India (after high school uni in India is 4 yrs instead of 3 in uk) so should I do 10th in India which will put me in 12th in Mauritius next year of do an extra year in Mauritius which may cause problems.
