This video is part of a multi-part series of our ultimate ROAD TRIP THROUGH MAURITIUS! Mauritius is a popular honeymoon and beach holiday destination but it has so much more to offer than beautiful beaches (although there are many of them as well). We’re really excited to get to know this African island country and its culture and cuisine. On our road trip we’ll spend three weeks driving from the South up the West coast, then further into the North and finally down the East coast. Our goal is to get to know Mauritius from all sides, as well as check out its beautiful beaches and nature.

I'm glad that you noticed our picnic culture. Yes, it might be just a 6-10 hr picnic, we still come really prepared ❤😂
Haha, yes we love that!
I just want to point out that this 75 rupee ice cream is a rip off. The seller was arrested for taking huge sum of money from tourists. I know this person.
I'm Mauritian and it's so rare and heartwarming nowadays to see our country!
Love and keep trying even if there are tough times and be you, don't be ashamed of yourself, you're fantastic in your own way!❤️💙💛💚
Also 1$=Rs44.2(44.2 MUR)
Yeah this was filmed last year, which is why exchange rates aren't accurate anymore. That's always the issue with these kinds of videos unfortunately 😁
@@ZoeandSimon i hoped they hasn't charged you tourist price

Thanks for another great video, what a surprise you did one mostly about food lol stay safe.......was it a long walk back :)
Thank you! Yeah food somehow always makes it into our videos if we're not careful, so walking back would have probably been the smarter choice 😁

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

Cute couple ❤❤ I love your videos... Respect 💯 from mauritius 🇲🇺
Thank you! 😊
just binge-watched this whole series on my beloved island. you guys are such a lovely pair of lovebirds. Happy that you are enjoying your stay there. Made me miss more my tiny island. can't wait to watch more of your videos.
P.s Simon, you are a lucky guy. Zoe looks like Halsey and she is damn gorgeous inside and outside. Much love to both of you
Thank you very much, that's very nice to hear! 😊 We had a great time on Mauritius and we'd love to come back soon 🙂
Why would you watch a series on your own tiny island? Can't travel such a small place? I live in Texas and I don't need to watch anything on it since I've been all over it and history class and we're, well, awesome and hopefully our own country soon...
Is it because you're worried about misrepresentation?
Or maybe you're just a total perv? His WIFE aint that great, buddy, average. You need to get out and see the world. OR Get a girlfriend, geezus.
I take that back. I watched Brits come here because I know their food is mostly terrible. They loved basically everything we cook. (Big Surprise there)... Pretty much like inknow I could go there and love everything y'all cook. We do all the same original then fusion stuff. Got to have that seasoning, spice, sauce, herbs, etc. To make life more delicious. Y'all are doing it right and stop trying to downplay your perving 😂. And if you dont like this learn to take jokes in Mauritius. It's what life's about, a Creator, a family, great food, laughter and carrying about and loving others everywhere.
I'm just trying to bring thick skin back to the generations who've totally lost the ability as well. Because if you can't you arent going to make it in this world. It ain't all roses.
So many appreciating and welcoming comments from Mauritians!! Im visiting in june. Things to do definitely?
The bus was a "wild ride"...? Whew! Party animals. 😂
Am from Mauritius… you present the island in a very genuine report love your authenticity in presenting such an enjoyable video. I wish the government would go with the times. The state of the roads is appalling. I was there last September . I could not drive as the drivers behaved very badly. No respects for other road users . After 37 years away , there has been no progress at all. They don’t pay the council so they JM keep building to the sky.Jose from Melbourne . Australia.
Thank you for your comment, we're glad to hear you enjoyed our videos 😊 Luckily we didn't have any bad experiences while driving. It must have been very interesting for you coming back to the island after such a long time!
Thank you Zoe and Simon for bringing some joy in presenting your videos. I wish you all the best . Jose from Melbourne Australia
Hello how are you
mort dans australie mm flmm kisana p dir tw retourner!
Damn he's pissed when you said he drives slowwww damnnnnnn...... German autobahn men are not slow 😂😂😂.....much love from Australia!!!
Welcome to our Island and culture
Nice video, thank you very much! By the way, you can hitchhike. It's not so common, but anyone will gladly give you a ride. There're frequently police patrol on the road to help.
Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Mauritius is a perfect island for vacation only
Not to live?
Mauritius is so beautiful was I born in Mauritius and still live in mauritius
We loved our time on Mauritius! 🤗
Hi guys. Love your videos! Is this the last one or are you still on the island, exploring?
Thank you! 😊 We're not on Mauritius anymore (sadly!), but we still have one more video about Mauritius that we'll post next week 🙂
@@ZoeandSimon Amazing videos, thank you, yes Mauritius beaches & nature awesome, so worth it ! Hope you guys had been able to visit the whole island, breathtaking !
Oh no, gee whiz! Sorry to break it but you've been ripped off by the pineapple guy & the ice cream truck 😮💨I haven't been back to the island for a good while now however the other prices seemed fair 😊P.S Great video editing and camera work! I really liked the on-screen animations & sound effects - the small details that matter 😊
Thank you very much! 😊 Yeah that's what we suspected unfortunately, most of the time we can tell when we're paying "tourist prices" in any country, but it's still hard to completely avoid 😅
Unfortunately yes prices have raised a lot after covid. The prices are what they are. They did not get scammed at all
we all get scammed by these prices😂. we also have to pay these prices which is outrageous.
good luck getting back nice video tho
We made it back! 😁
Wow... look at those prices... Damn
Yep! 🙂
Next time try the vonacorona❤
450rs you can get 2 liters of coca cola for 90 rs if roti is 20rs you get 4 for 80rs now 170rs down just for the morning 1 orange can be 15rs 1 banana 7rs ...1 yogurt 15rs 1 beer 110rs and with 133 you can get a plate of fried noodles(mine frite) eggs and chicken in it..
Is there any food inflation in the stores; and at the food trucks?
That ice cream is expensive 😐
Please PLEASE ! OUIT OF MAURITIUS NOW !
Even Mauritius is small there are many places I haven’t been
I'm going there in few days
Nice, hope you have a great time! 😊
Bro your in my country and I know my country there are beautiful beach and
Hotels
Atsa nice
As a resident, go to lolo supermarket for cheap prices
Im happy to be mauritian
Love your videos Been back about 6 times since I left the island in 1970 I wish I could go and visit for a last time before I kick the bucket Now living in Sydney Cheers Peter
Hi Peter, glad you're enjoying our videos! Mauritius really is a beautiful island and we enjoyed our time a lot. We also want to return in the future. Sydney is also a great place to live however!
There are too many boats at the public beach these days. Was not like that long time ago. Do you guys like the local Phoenix Beer?
Yeah we like Phoenix! We also liked Blue Marlin and Thirsty Fox 🙂
As a mauritian i'll just say you paid a bit more for the pineapple normally for this size it is rs 65 and you paid rs 100 which is quite a lot more expensive and also for the ice cream normally it is rs 45 to rs 60 it wouldn't exceed but u guys paid a bit more too so i think you could've saved a lot too .. i'm sorry to say but you guys got scammed to pay more just because you are foreigners and it is unfair as they are not doing business honestly so as to earn good money ... other than this it was an awesome video and i appreciate the love you guys share for the country :) thank you for visiting ❤❤
Thank you very much! Yes that's what we suspected unfortunately, but it's often hard to avoid as a tourist. Especially when buying food, as this is the one situation where it feels weird to haggle. But we're glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Mauritius have a lot of beautiful places plzz visit ❤
Faratha in mauritius is actually roti, if you use either names there you will get the same thing
Visit Rose Hill Someday
You could come to Port Louis 😮🎉
We visited Port Louis before we came to Grand Baie! 🙂
Yeah. But grand baie is better and more safe than port louis 💯❤️
Great video😊😮 in which hotel do you stay? I' ve been 4 times in mauritius. Where you come from?
We stayed in "Azur Paradise" and it was decent for the price 😁 We're both from Germany!
@@ZoeandSimon ah ok danke für die Info. Ich komm aus Österreich. Lg
I live there 😃
small mistake on your caption with the soft ice cone for 75rs says “bus trip 75rs”.
Bus trip depends on how far you go. At least the further away the better the deal. An end to end trip of a route will cost you around 44 Rs.
The first snack was a ROTI chaud (hit Roti or Crêpe) and not a Farata. Some places you will get Faratas un Mauritius, but they will cost around 50rs. olus and have a fish / veg or chicken filling. That what is common is either the Roti or the Dholl Puri, each for 15rs.
Green chili or piment is normally not in the food but can be added. As 50/50 of mauritians love or don’t like chili.
Good to know that you for sharing! 🙂
I live in mauritius in belle rose
got ripped off a little on the pineapple
Yeah that's what we suspected unfortunately 😅
👍🏽
Next time bro. If u want beer after the hour
Ask the locals ....they know the after hour places
Good to know! 😁
Actually the 'mime frite' is lik 75 to 80 rupees but make it a 100 for tourists
2 only filled me
75 rupees for an icecream.... they stole from you
Tube brian and Riki Mauritius
🇲🇺❤
Quite expensive for the beer. A phoenix is less than 80 roupees
Yeah we had to buy them at a restaurant unfortunately as there were no shops around, so it wasn't the budget option 😁
As a local, I can tell you that the northern part of the island is the most expensive region so generalizing prices of Grand Baie with the rest of the island is unfair!
Yeah it's definitely not representative for the whole country. But as many tourists head to Grand Baie, we wanted to show that even in the more expensive regions of Mauritius you can get great value for money 🙂 That didn't always work, as we got overcharged for some things, but overall I think it worked 😁
May we invite you to meeting at Pereybere beach? We are here for 6 months 🙂We are from Czech Republic..
Thanks for the invite, would have been fun to meet up! 😊 Unfortunately we're not on Mauritius anymore as it always takes a few weeks to edit and release our videos 😁 But it's cool that you're on Mauritius for such a long time, then you'll have lots of time to explore the whole country!
@@ZoeandSimon Thank you for reply! Yes..we are here 3 weeks for now..and our biggest trip was ride to Port Luise :D we work remotely for our company..so..now it's time to discover Mauritius :-)
Haha yeah that's normal if you're also working! And you've got enough time 😁 Mauritius is great for a workation, hope you guys enjoy it!
I live in mauritius go in la kozer restaurant
that's not expensive at all - good to know!!
Yeah, you can get both on Mauritus - budget and luxury options 😊
Just came back from the island its very expensive 10 bucks get you now no where for food thats on a budget. TOOO EXPENSIVE
Street food are affordable.
Stay away from the tourists trap area. Their prices are the same as in north America.
For the pineapple you got ripped dear😢
Yeah, we suspected that - it happens unfortunately 😕
Tuna is not Rs500 per Kilo. It would be Rs270 Maximum per Kilo 😊
Good to know! We're not sure if we misunderstood the price or if they just told us a higher price than usual 😅
PD any covid requirement?
Not when we were there, but we always check on the official websites before coming anyway 🙂
LOL even you noticed that... TBS have crazy drivers, they maneuver sharp turns without braking. The pineapple was a rip off... I always shun these kind of crooked vendors. Not a fan of Grand Baie as a Mtian city. I could go there to swim or to La Cuvette or Peyreybere... I'm from the central plateau cities of Quatre Bornes & Rose Hill and have never been a fan of rural Mauritians. Rs75 for a Vona Corona ice cream... damn I no longer know the Mauritius I grew up in... The only super deal you made was the mines frits and the faratha... une tuerie (a killer) as we say in French
Grand baie village are good 🦇🇲🇺
Hello friends welcome to Mauritius. I live in the capital of port Louis. From which country are you?
We're from Germany 🙂
I want to visit Mauritius but I don't know anyone from there
Mauritius seems to be cheaper than most Islands
dein english ist super......dein akzent ist schauderhaft
I'm a native English speaker and I'm fine with their accent.
U should try the dholl puri
Yes, we tried a few dholl puri while on Mauritius and they're great 🤗
I'm sorry to say that you've been ripped off by the pineapple seller and the ice cream van. The other prices are about right.
Thanks for letting us know - that's what we thought as well. It's the reality for tourists in some places unfortunately though, so we're fine with showing that too.
No, the ice cream price is real at the beach. It isn't expensive!
The ice cream is less than Rs75
Its about Rs45 or Rs50
I live at Mauritius can I speak the language of Mauritius but I can also speak English
You got scammed for the ice cream its like 30-40 rupees and you get way more
That's Dhal Puri ..Rs15
You should have ordered 1 pair
Nice Romeo Juliet
It's not paratas it's faratas😭😭😭😭❤🤣
A country that I'll never visit again. Once is enough.
Grand Baie - Mont Choisy not 75 mur. Too high
Least its pretty cheap, only ten bucks on a day to do it? I've checked out about 150 restaurants on the island and they're pretty reasonable... But being from Germany, man I feel sorry for y'all when it comes to getting taken feom behind on tax and everything. Damn. Move to a real 😎 country like here in Texas. Be much happier, more free, financially solvent, safer.
I apologize for bringing a brief political overtone to your wonderful vlog but I'm a genuine Mauritian who is today ashamed of my country
Such a disgrace to see that in 2023 my fellow Mauritian countrymen are stealing from tourists with a big fake smile... the same deceit is reiterated in Caudan Water Front luxury stores or even hotels where prices are formulated for locals disparately from tourists. May be the rationale is to account for the lower purchasing power of locals... but where is the line: this merely opens the door to discriminate according to skin, hair or eye color... better advert a unique price applied to everybody
Back in the 1990s we never used to act like that but today corruption, nepotism, Hindu extremism have spoiled the country big time and - sorry to be politically incorrect - it's always the same who then purge their discriminations & malpractice with pious rituals and prayers. The education system is a massive fail training young minds to be egocentric school toppers or rat racers hoarding the maximum amount of wealth no matter the means to achieve these gains
No wonder Seychelles & Rodrigues are doing way better in terms of tourist arrivals than Mauritius... we lost our authenticity, our honesty, our pride to welcome humans of all creeds and color like equals with the respect they deserve
Hope you have better encounters there coz there is also about a good third of the population who, like their parents taught them to be, are humble, generous and color-blind to melanin/personal beliefs like it is the case in La Reunion and Seychelles
No doubt corruption has increased in mtius The whole world is getting more corrupt However I understand that mtius has progressed to a first world country although last on the list Norway being first
Hi I live in Mauritius. The prices are ok. They did not get scammed. Since covid Mauritians are suffering from high rise and even more since fuel took a high rise too. The prices are ok.
@@peterblackburn272 its most certainly not a first world country my friend, the locals get paid 200 $ per months which is around 10$ for a day’s work, if you have the money you can live like a king in this country but if you are like the majority of mauritians, then you are just poor and have to work hard to avoid being on the streets
The shops are the worst, I legit paid 250 rupees on some low quality lollipop at Bagatelle
The amount of people watching videos on their own super small "country" is just odd to me.
goodluck on avoiding restaurants with cockroaches at 10$
And that's cheating 😛 Two 330 ml of beer won't cost Rs 120 here. It's moreeeee!
Even for the bus, for 2 persons it's not Rs 30. It's moreeee!
You showing only for 1 person when you're spending for 2. 😂
Noo, we didn't cheat - in this video the prices we show are always just for one person/one portion 😁 We thought that might be easier to get an understanding of how much 10$ can get you.
@@ZoeandSimon Ok ok! But nice videos guys! Keep spreading positivity and good vibes! ☺ #Cheeers
It’s RINGGIT not rupees
We're pretty sure that Malaysia has Ringgits and Mauritius has Rupees - or are we missing something? 🙂
Definitely Rupee. A simple google search before commenting does wonders
