notice the slight change in gordon's facial expression from when he isn't in the HEV suit and when he isnt. I like that the animation itself shows how quickly and how much his life changed just from one feature alone.
the hazard suit could be like a symbol of being imprisoned in your own mind and body. he once was a freeman who just worked a simple job, but all that changed the day he put on that hazard suit and put the crystal in. now then that suit will be the only thing that keeps him alive and other but also a constant reminder of everything he went through and seen. what he could have stopped or saved, everything taken from him in the matter of hours. now he just a symbol of hope to other but one he doesn't have, only a hero for the people around him but not for himself.
Imagine spending years getting your phd, and landing a high paying dream job. You spend months (or years) working day in and out and getting along with your coworkers. One day you are told to push a sample into the test chamber. Next thing you know you’re unconscious, only to wake up to the facility falling apart. You manage to get out of the test chamber only to see all your close coworkers dead, dying, or being tortured by alien creatures. After two days trying to get out of the facility, you get frozen in time and are teleported some 20 years into the future. Except to you, it feels like mere seconds. The amount of trauma seeing all that happen… And on top of that, the amount of guilt Gordon feels knowing the entirety of planet earth is nearly extinct because of his actions, is truly incomprehensible.
@@FSXflyermaster im almost sure at one point Gordon doesnt even stop to think about all of the madness, he just pushes on in an adrenaline induced frenzy while being in constant combat with the aliens and combine...

All at 27 years of age. he's not just traumatized. He died, that day. And the man that came out of the chamber? That.. being? He will never say a word for the rest of his existence. Even to save those he cares about, he mentally can't, for fear of the horrors of Black Mesa coming back, and never stopping.

I like that his glasses are bright during the time where he was still just a scientist, so bright that it looks like hes walking towards a light, whereas after they're dim, barely reflective. You could say "well yeah the lights are off and its night time" but look at the ground that room is still lit up. I think its more about his mental state and future. Prior to the incident, hes starting a lucrative career in an elite field at a renowned site, his future is bright, blindingly so, so his glasses are damn near solid white. But when the incident happens, his future is taken from him in one capacity or another, they're almost entirely dark, the barest flicker of life being just his willingness to keep fighting, even when so drained, so tired, so traumatized, to help other's and escape. He will never recover, and the site is done for, but there's still something there, something to keep fighting for. His future is dark and it'll keep being dark, but he needs to and wants to keep fighting, to help those who now rely on him, The One Free Man.
