    • @VicTacToe
      @VicTacToe  Год назад +1

      Hi! I am using 1/16” for the base and 1/8” for the acrylic on top :)

    Great video! I just got my GF last week. I'm having issues with all the acrylic melting on the underside. I've just been using the settings that the printer gives for each color acrylic. Any idea how I can stop it messing up my pieces?

    • @VicTacToe
      @VicTacToe  Год назад +3

      Thank you!! I would just keep playing with the settings to figure out what works best for your machine. For 1/8" thick acrylic I use the proofgrade cut settings of Speed: 157, Full Power.

    How did you learn how to figure out how much of a size difference you need to make in order for those pieces to fit together correctly?

    • @VicTacToe
      @VicTacToe  3 года назад +3

      Basically just trial and error, testing out a few different sizes until they fit just right. For example for the strawberry I designed it all as one piece, and then separated the design file into the top and bottom of the strawberry. And then tested from there. I hope that makes sense!

    Hi! I haven't purchased a Glowforge yet (still doing a lot of my research) but was curious about you using black acrylic as a backing. Is that a mandatory addition? Or does it just make it stronger? Im wondering since stylistically I like the design to show on both sides but if it's better i might consider black arcylic backing

  • @Michael-lo3ht
    @Michael-lo3ht Год назад +3

    I see you're pinching the circle jump rings to close. I did that in the beginning and had issues with there was always a gap. Until I found out to use the twist method. By twisting the distance isn't changed. When you twist it back to close it's a tighter connection. In fact you learn to twist it to make sure it pushes against each end tight.

    I wonder...... On something like the green part of the strawberry, or center of the sunflower, if you mirrored it, so essentially it is cutting it upside down, then the kerfs of the cut will be in opposite directions & it will fit together better.

    Which model Glowforge did you use? I’m thinking about investing in the basic model but I’m bot sure if it can be used to cut acrylic? The info in the website is more vague than I would like. The wording makes it seem like the basic is only good for engravings…

    • @VicTacToe
      @VicTacToe  Год назад

      Hi! I have the basic. It can cut acrylic, and all the materials that the other 2 models can. It can score, cut, and engrave. The only real difference is that it’s a bit slower.

    Great video. I was wondering, does the Glowforge do a good job of keeping the smell / fumes contained? I noticed that you are also using the external air filter. Even so, do you smell any chemicals while cutting the acrylic? Thank you, learned so much from your channel!

    • @VicTacToe
      @VicTacToe  2 года назад +1

      Hi Chris, I’m glad you’ve found my channel helpful! I don’t have a window in my office to vent out of so I had to get the filter. I would say the filter does a decent job containing the smells. There isn’t much smell from wood, but I notice more smells when I cut acrylic. To contain the smell it helps to wait a few minutes and not open the lid right away when a print is complete. When the filter starts getting old and you’re in a need of a new one, the smells are definitely more noticeable. Hope that helps! 😊
