Plus, I have to alternate calibers, so there may be extended gaps of time when a particular wep, gets used, and again, that just if I can afford it(SSI only goes so far, heh heh!!! 😉).

honestly in a small apartment like mine, those 40mm nades wouldn't clear enough distance to detonate. It could work out okay.
They just thump a wall or person really, really hard if they impact something too soon.
I usually would go with the claymores set up around the house with remote detonators. Secondary is a Scottish Claymore to help me remain at a distance while maintaining power and accuracy.

I've went back and forth on this forever, but I will say that a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with 00-buck is, per shot, the most effective home-defense weapon. Now with that comes training, because adrenaline is a B in a tough situation. However, with so much energy dispersion and absorption at close-range, it really is a one-shot wonder in most close-range scenarios, particularly inside the home.
Now, that being said, my current go-to is my AR, for a specific reason: I have a nasty disability in my left arm and hand that prevents me from operating at 100%. With the modularity of the AR platform, I have found a comfortable setup where I can handle the weapon proficiently without having to worry about excess recoil, length, weight, etc.
The moral of the story is, pick a weapon that fits the task, that you can afford, but make sure you are comfortable with it, learn everything you can about it, and practice, practice, practice.

I’m a big fan of shotguns. I feel as though the universally known sound of a shotgun being pumped alone “discourages” the average Joe Smo. I also like the dummy proof nature of point and shoot of a 12 g. I can’t imagine missing someone creeping up my stairs lol. But as you said, pick something you are comfortable with.

@@aarondunn5447 yeah, perhaps a cheap army surplus tac vest with some mags would do the trick. Weird thing is, you may never exactly know what you're up against... the more the merrier as you say. By the time you're using a tac vest, may as well take that time to equip the plate carrier anyway. bandolier is small... hmm. maybe a battle belt prepped with stuff that you can throw on over your red onsie with the little butt flap. And I thought I was the only one who kept my extra plate carrier behind my bed with 3 extra ar mags and 2 more g17 mags lol. Tourniquet knife and an extra light is on it too. I used to have lvl 4 steel plates in it but decided it was too heavy now I have lvl 3 ceramic in the front and a 3a soft panel in the back so hopefully I don’t get shot in the back with a rifle. Oh yea ammo I use imi 77gn otm and 75gn hornady frontier bthp. Coming from a 12.5” triarc barrel. I have a couple hundred rounds of hornady sbr 75gn interlock but it’s too expensive and hard to find so I’ve never zeroed my rifles for it. Wish I woulda bought more of it back when it was $20 a box and pretty plentiful because it really would be a good home defense round I think. I’ve tested it in water jugs and over the chrono and it performs really good from my 12.5” and 14.5” even out to 100yds it expands nicely and plenty of penetration.

I forgot to say, but the consensus of studies says that the magazine springs wear out more from the constant loading and unloading of the spring. If the magazine stays compressed or loaded, it will not be subject to wear vs. releasing the tension periodically.

Pistol caliber carbines are a dramatically underrated home defense option in my opinion. I have an 8 inch barrel 9mm PCC for my home defense. Ammo is cheap so i get a lot of practice plus plenty of great defense loads

The best home defense gun is one you are proficient in and are confident in. Being aware of your shooting angles, defensive spots, exits, and of course...what is behind what you are shooting at (different ammo/caliber) . I am in the process of getting my silencer. Quick note on magazine springs under tension: I think repeated compressions/uncompressions, rather than sustained compression (except to the point of over-compression), are what cause springs to weaken and fail over time.
That's generally true (in terms of relative wear rates), although there is something to be said about plastic mags having pressure against the feed lips for prolonged periods of time (unless properly supported). PMags, specifically, have a cap for this reason.

I actually did my own expirement on my mags. 2 years under tension, 2 years empty. No difference in the springs length. The mag I use for target practice, has lost it rigidity. As it wears upon expansion and contraction. Standby for the 3 and 5 years to be done.
When I talk to people about springs l always tell them to think of a thin piece of metal, if you bend it 45* and then back to straight it will keep most of its strength but if you do it over and over again it’ll snap.
i keep 2 full 30 round mags at all times. but i cycle them 2 on 3 empty shoot out the 2 load 2 more. 11 years now no mag failures
They got mags that were loaded from WW2 (around 15 years ago) and they ran fine. A spring loses it's effectiveness from repetition, NOT from being pressed in. I don't really care but technically a mag under tension is not going to just stop working, just not how it works.

I have a glock 17 within close proximity to my front door. I keep a remington 870 with #4 buckshot in the bedroom. If I get pushed beyond that somehow, there's an OPAP M70 in the bedroom closet next to a plate carrier with extra mags.
