As a first responder... The chemlight idea is helpful. Yeah I have Google maps but it's very very helpful if you're calling and say "doors open there's a glowstick on the front porch". Plenty of times I get into the neighborhood and have misread the address or something.... Glowstick guides me right in

Okay as a firefighter this is an absolute fact! if you put a glow stick , On the front porch we'll get to your address the first time vs giving us just your address especially because alot of the houses we've gone to the house numbers are either blocked by shrubbery or just not on the house. the ones that used to get me where the ones that people had on their mailboxes that were reflective like that's all good and great if we're responding to your house at 12pm but at 2am that doesn't do us any good

For the bump in the night type home invasion, Two magazines attached by a mag coupler is a good idea so you got that extra mag without having to figure out a way to carry the extra mag on your person in the middle of the night. And it’s less you have to think about. You just grab your rifle and it’s already got two mags on it

Awesome video. Really good points and I love the emphasis on asking yourself more questions to find the solution thats right for your situation. Thinking about the importance of response time is also something I don't usually hear mentioned in these types of videos. As nice as it would be to strap on a full carrier and a belt time is working against you the second you hear the bump in the night.
I like to keep a med kit in a central location in the house, so that if you dont have time to grab one its still close by.

  • @ThatKidKc722

    My tips and .2 cents:
Get super familiar with your neighbors. My direct neighbor is an EMT with loads of knowledge on first aid, trauma, has access to EMS radio. His wife is also a nurse. I always have their back and they have mine.
Had a group of 4 attempt to break into our cars. Luckily our alarm systems scared them off but having an alarm to alert you when there is an intruder sooner gives you more time and more of an advantage.
Lastly on the topic of home defense. Actually work in your home with your gear. See if that 20” barrel AR can be useful in the hallway. See if it’s not and consider a shorter barrel if needed. Make plans with your family and have them involved in drills. Where to go, who to call, etc. My wife has a spot in our closet where she can go and lock the door and keep a gun ready, along with a panic button for our home alarm.

Don't forget about your house itself. The things you have in/on your house, i.e. your pets, motion lights, fences, etc. can be the difference in you having those few extra seconds and obtaining the advantage on someone or not. Familiarize yourself with your house and all the things about it, and then train for said scenarios. It's surprising what you can find out about your own home and how you can utilize it to your advantage while in a training environment.

    • @mysticfate8773
      @mysticfate8773 2 года назад

Also, train hands on techniques. Especially if you are able to de-escalate said situation, there is the chance of reescalation in the form of a hand to hand altercation. Also, it gives you an extra variety of options to effectively utilize in the "what if..." situation.

I have a homemade bandolier that has 2 regular PMAGs, and 2 21 round Glock mags. On the side of the bandolier is a IFAK as well. The old school officers bailout/active-shooter bag isn’t a bad idea either. Multiple mag pouches, plenty of room for medical gear, simple to toss over the shoulder in half a second, & likely can carry more first aid gear.

@@Millstone_Justice that’s how I set up my carrier in my cubby when I was on QRF, I would naturally already have everything else on and the rifle would be set up right next to the carrier all and I do was put my back up against the wall really hard and it would put itself over me while I slung the rifle at the same time. I think the fastest my buddies ever timed me was 1.8 seconds to go from just belt to full kit, rifle and helmet. The helmet part was hard because I had to knock it off of the shelf to fall onto my head without it falling faster than the Front plate bag.

My bump in the night gear is a 13.9" suppressed AR that's equipped to run under nods if need be (has a white light of course) and an old Vtac skirmish belt. The belt has an IFAK, 2 rifle mags, 2 pistol mags, multi-tool, roll up dump pouch, small knife, small light, and a pistol also lives on the belt in a retention holster. My thought process was that it was easy to throw on quickly and it has most of what I need to patch holes or survive a fight. My rifle is just my go to rifle and its 13.9" because we have wide open spaces here. Kind of a compromise, but it works. I do have a carrier, ballistic helmet, nods, ect that are all squared away, but that stuff takes too much time for a bump in the night. I never thought of just tossing a chest rig over my shoulder though and that might be worth considering since I have those setup too.

Carrier is kept with one side open to pull it off the rack and throw it on in 4 seconds. 3 556 mags, tq and lvl 4 plates. 10.5 sits in front on the rack ready to go. Belt hangs on one side with additional support crap if the opportunity is there.
Everything goes in an inconspicuous nike sport duffel in the morning while I'm at work and out and about, because the entire world has gone fucking crazy and the only person you can count on is you. And maybe the only person *other* people can count on is you.
People think it's crazy to have a setup like this, but anyone that's ever woken up in the middle of the night and had to fight for their life with their bare hands knows better.

A well setup weapon should always be the start point for a civilian looking to defend house and home. Also, a kit similar to this, is the ideal setup for a concerned citizen that's looking to increase their lethality and capability. Chest rig as a sling is a pretty pretty great idea. Me personally, 556 carbine suppressed with a light+red dot and my plate carrier next to it. I've got the carrier setup so that i can slide in with one cummerbund already set like it needs to be and the other i can fairly quickly apply because its an AC1 using the velcro on top method. I've tested it a couple times and am happy with it, but definitely want to test it more. I do like the concept that lighter projectiles don't over penetrate as much as heavier ones, but the sound benefit of 300blk is definitely a weighted benefit. Great things to consider, especially having layers of kit available if time is available. Kind of like layering kit with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line concepts, it could easily be applied to most any plan or gear layout.

Not only will you now not be able to hear anything for the rest of the fight, your vision is going to be really hindered by the muzzle flash of 5.56 or .300 out of an SBR. I run a 5.56 SBR, with a Sig QD can, and Peltor ComTac hearing pro, and its still quite loud. My ideal legal minimum lethal option is an 11.5" AR "pistol"+Redi-mag × 2 P-Mags loaded w/ Hornady Black HD-SBR. Surefire light, quality red dot, Blast shield type muzzle device, Tourney strapped to the sling. A wide sling, like a Troy. It allows better attachment of pouches to the sling for things like ifak guts, chemlights, flex cuffs, skittles, whatever... Spare hand held light clipped to sling for signaling or PID without brandishing. Sure it's a bulky bastard, but it's just for the inside of my house and the edge of the driveway. I'm not trekking Argandab with it.
Bluetooth earmuff-pro connected to phone and staged on the rifle prior to bed time.
I always at least wear Gym shorts and a shirt to bed because no one wants to be naked during a house fire or worse, however, if I were, everything I'm taking to the fight is with the gun.
Bump in the night? Throw on earpro, grab rifle kit, Throw phone and spare light in pocket, then investigate.
I dont know about yours, but My earmuff-pro amplifies ambient noise, like the sounds people would make trying to quietly move through my place, or root through my stuff.
Bad time happens? My hearing is preserved, and more than likely, everyone else's is probably not. I'll bet money that my voice is probably still louder than any hearing damage they may have suffered. That's their chance to comply or flee, unless they're smart enough to bypass the security measures and get the drop on me.
My ideal but somehow not legal less-lethal option is command operated 9 bangers with cans of mark9 strapped to them strategically placed throughout and just outside of but within the curtilage of the home. I get a proximity sensor notification of dummys trying to do dumb things, I throw on as promask and hit a few clackers to complicate their life before throwing on a boondock saints esq vest loaded with multi shot tasers, bangers, Hornets nests and a nice glock34 blaster with all the fixings in case diplomacy fails.
Pipe dreams, I know, but one can dream.

I appreciate the video and I also appreciate the honesty about all the things you have that you'll probably never need or never have an opportunity to get to.
The problem becomes if you tell people they'll never have an opportunity to use it but you have it just on the very very slim chance they're going to run off and add it to their plate carrier cuz some professional online told him to do so but they're never going to train with it.
I guarantee you there's not a single person that has cleared a house in a CQB course and then pulled a chemlight from an admin pouch and tossed it out the front window. So when not very very very rare chance that you actually do start putting bullet into a target comes, ninety-nine percent of the s*** on your person other than the firearm and maybe the flashlight and cell phone or going to be forgotten. When the shooting stops people are going to be barricading themselves in a safe place we're going to check on their kids and wife and dog.
