I still remember sitting in front of the TV and waiting for his show to start.....in the 80's. Now 30 years after, I can say that there has been no one like him.
I am 75, and I found Dave Allen on u-tube about 3 or so years ago. Perhaps because I am older, I prefer his later routines. He was just amazing. I can and do watch him repeatedly, and still laugh whole heartily. I was so sorry to learn that he had passed away. I wish that I could let his family know how much he is still being enjoyed and appreciated....
I love Dave Allen, I used to watch him back in the '70's. I saw Supermarkets, and I had to watch. I used to work in one for 5 years, cashier and price manager. He's brilliant, I had customers like him
I remember every single Dave Allen show from the 1970’s - only comedian who literally made me cry laughing: such timing! A true genius who’ll never be forgotten. RIP.
"Tomorrow is kill a geriatric day" - That is Dave Allen in a heartbeat...you can grow old on the outside, but that's no excuse to grow old on the inside. xx oo
Dave Allen can still make me laugh so much, even though I’ve seen it heaps. Remember my Daddy laughing so much at him, we would be sitting in front of the coal fire on a dark and dismal Wednesday night. - Dave Allen really brightened up the world and made it such a happier place for the time he was on. Missed still so much to this day Mr Allen xxx
Adored him as a kid- wonderful art of storytelling and as an adult I am still in awe watching him his humour is captivating and he had a wonderful classy way with him I’ve never found in the general male population alas he was my first and most lasting love..
Watched this guy when I was very young and probably didn't really get but remember scenes on TV when you had 2 funerals going to the same graveyard. But don't forget only 1 could get into heaven that day!!! so funny when they start racing to the graveyard at the same time on the same day!!. I am an Irishman myself so can really relate to his humour but who couldn't..fantastic comedian and a lovely human being.
My all time favourite comedian!! Many years ago I was working in St Austell, Cornwall. A friend of mine had booked tickets for his show.I have never laughed so much in my life!! Best show ever!!!
So lovely to see so many kind & respectful comments below a YT upload. Just shows both just how darn brilliant he was & also the intelligent level of fans he had. Should be allowed to see more of him at times like Christmas or NewYear.Miss him terribly
Apparently, he had a clause in his contracts that no show would be repeated on TV. He didn't want his work to become stale because of too many repeats. Thankfully he didn't know yt was on the way, or we would have lost all of this long ago and there wouldn't be these wonderful memories and access to his tremendous humour now. As for the possibility of becoming stale, that could never happen when there has never been anyone as good known.
same for me, since I discovered him, 2 weeks ago, I watch him every morning, he "makes my day" as you say, also I was not surprised to learn that he was Irish ... nothing can compete with irish humour !
A very intelligent man and still current despite many years since this was first broadcast. I used to watch on TV many years ago and still find him VERY funny!
I work on checkout at a well known high end supermatket I have just cried with laughter the whole way through. Can't wait to tell my friends at work - brilliant 💝
Luckily enough to see him on a stage show, never laughed so much. He was a great comedian, his view on life was spot on. He left us too soon. RIP mate.
Quite frankly the greatest stand up comedian ever IMHO, a man who had a unique talent and wicked sense of humour. Greatly missed, thankfully there's clips like this to remind us of his genius!!
A truly remarkable talent at the top of his game.I don't think any of today's comedians can touch him.I have been breathless with laughter time and again
The irreplaceable Dave Allen , brilliant raconteur and actor. Sadly the era of the true comic genius has gone. He, along with several others of his generation could make us laugh till we cried. Who is there now that can do the same. RIP Dave.
Dave Allen you Good Sir you were such an inspirational force for me. I loved tuning in to you on T.V. to watch your programmes on a Friday night. You are so funny and will forever live on in my mind as being such a great person. I sadly miss you and your humor, simply brilliant R.I.P.
There will never be another Dave Allen, amazing gifted man just love him. “Good night, God bless & May your God go with you” hope your resting i heavenly peace Dave.
Dave allen was God in the comedy world bless you for all the real life observations and storytelling pure brilliant in a world that's lost its sense of humour. Sadly missed but brought to life here on you tube. RIP sir❤
The first of the alternative comedians before the phrase alternative comedy even existed. I bet the streets were empty back in the early days when he was on telly...
I only learnt about Dave Allan a few years ago, regrettably very late in his life BUT I love his humour. The humour he finds in everyday happenings and then the ability to see the funny side and illustrate it for the likes of me. I also really appreciate that his humour was not filled with profanity.
So relevant today. The best stand up comedian ever. All the best ones are making God laugh. Can you imagine Dave Allen, the 2 Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, Tommy Cooper. Spike Milligan etc all together.
I can definitely relate! I remember once being in the express queue (12 items or less) and there was a LONG line of people waiting. There was an elderly lady at the checkout with a huge amount of groceries, and when they'd finally been scanned she faffed around querying prices, getting the cashier to manually check everything. People in the queue were starting to openly grumble...she turned around and smiled at the long line of people...then proceeded to waste yet more time. So yes, can relate to the frustration in Dave Allen's monologue. 😅
Everything he said is true. Counting other people's items in the express checkout to see if they haven't gone over the limit, getting annoyed at supermarkets moving products around. It means you need to learn their new locations so you know the quickest, most efficient route to pick all the items you planned on buying in order to be quickly in and out of these places. The major difference nowadays is you have the self scanners which give their own problems, i.e. "unexpected item in the baggage area", or the "please wait for assistance".
I still remember sitting in front of the TV and waiting for his show to start.....in the 80's. Now 30 years after, I can say that there has been no one like him.
Agree completely, can still watch his old shows on utube.
I am 75, and I found Dave Allen on u-tube about 3 or so years ago. Perhaps because I am older, I prefer his later routines. He was just amazing. Don’t worry I think they know
I am with you on this; I'm 73
Absolutely right . Mate. It makes your hair go grey .
I remember him saying, on his gravestone he wanted the words “ it’s not true! “ but I guess he never got that . A true comedy giant !
Same age as you Gloria - and I laugh out loud still at Dave Allen!
Dave Allen was also a BRILLIANT storyteller. R.I.P.
So many of today's comedians could learn an awfully lot from this man.
One of the funniest comedians ever.
I hope today's comedians are at least slightly into the business of learning
I agree you don't see true talent like this now sadly
The wokes won't let it happen
He was spot on about plastic bloody bags!!!
I can honestly say, hand on heart, very few comedians can make me laugh every minute and as loudly as Mr Allen can. Sadly missed.

Dave Allen was the best observational comedian ever. Just brilliant.
RIP.
A comic genius. Sadly missed but not forgotten. A staple of my viewing in the 1970's
"Tomorrow is kill a geriatric day" - That is Dave Allen in a heartbeat...you can grow old on the outside, but that's no excuse to grow old on the inside. xx oo
May your Gods go with you Dave. The cleverest atheist ever!
Why do you need more than one? and that for an attheist.
Would have had a few choice words about being described as Anglo saxon. He was Irish!
Albeit living most of his life in London.
He was from Old Bawn, now called Tallaght, in Dublin. ❤
He was ahead of his time. Outspoken and authentic as well as naturally funny. His older stuff is still brilliant too.

Its so refreshing without cursing every second word like it is today.
"May YOUR God go with you." I like that.
Dave knew about the MANIC Checkouts at ALDI years before...a great observer👍🇬🇧 great nostalgia of the 1970's.🤪
I had the privilege of seeing him live in Boston in 1981. I've never had a funnier evening!
Saw Mick Miller early 1980s at the South Bank Club in Grimsby.😂
