This is one of my favorite funky, Dennis Edward-led Tempts tunes. “Can you throw me a life-preserver? I’m about to drown in my own tears! Standing in shaky ground ever since you put me down.”
@@princedarkhot I know! Every time I watch this I think about how he was the best dancer up there but he was suffering with severe rheumatoid arthritis.
Dennis apparently was ill for quite some time. What a terrible loss. He was a force!! (And if this tune doesn't make you want to get an old P-bass with flatwounds you probably have no pulse. The funk is palpable.
And Melvin killed it and went all in even with his rheumatoid arthritis. Seriously, my eye went to Melvin the whole time and he was probably dying of pain doing this. What a trooper.
@@ItsVictoriaG i think he was fine here, he was still young. his arthritis definitely made it painful for him to perform later in life but not here i hope
814265 - I Completely agree with you, Dennis had the most amazing vocals and power, only matched by Teddy Pendergrass IMO. When these guys got in the funk groove (Cloud Nine, I Can't Get Next To You etc) you knew about it! There will NEVER be a male vocal band to rival these guys. Absolute legends!!
To drop the tempo and thicken the whole feel up like this is just absolutely fantastic. It came a time where everything started getting sped up so much live, and this one went the opposite direction. It's so good this way!!
I love you Dennis in my opinion the greatest singer of all time also the Temptations had another debatable one who you could say was a rival to him that was David Ruffin I often change my mind over who is the greatest after listening to each one of those recordings about each of them
MAN. it cant get no funkier than that.. THE GREAT DENNIS EDWARDS gettin down.. with that man on the funk bass...wish i could have been there to see that .THE TEMPS are the greatest anyway.. they move with the funk........taylor ozee
Dennis Edwards one of the all time great vocalist ,Eddie Levert,Marvin Gaye,Levi Stubbs,Ronnie Isley,Dennis Edwards. underrated if you happen to listen to 60's and 70's radio you gon hear Dennis Edwards more than one time. His rendition of A SongFor You makes you cry.
Dennis also went solo - for the 1st time - much sooner - about a year or so after this performance. Remember - he wasn't with them when the Tempts briefly left Motown and signed with Atlantic Records. I believe a man by the name of Louis Price was Dennis' replacement.
Yes, it was Louis Price…he eventually provided the singing voices for the actors playing David Ruffin and Dennis Edwards in the Temptations miniseries.
I was born in 1973, my Papa was a Rolling Stone; My Mom(R.I.P.) jamming this taking me to the beach to celebrate her divorce from said Rolling Stone in 1978. Temptations Forever.
This is my song even though it didn't have all the original temps on it, those new temps was holding there own here, and they are dancing there asses off
It's funny, you see a bunch of dude standing there....you think (today)..."oh, here's a bunch of pretty boy posers". But not these cats....no sir.....just plain out BAD ASS! And they've got a bunch of killer classics! Heavy shit IMHO:)
This choreogrphay contributes to the perception of greater funkiness. It is so unreserved and unabashedly male. One thing separating the Tempts from many other groups was their stark masculinity, and it comes through here with moves that no female group would think of. Those high kicks and struts exude a confidence level that makes the funk funkier. And to think they were in their 12th year of superstardom at this point, and no holidng back.
The Temptations at that time: Last surviving founding member Otis Williams (Baritone; Background Vocals) (Still performing) Founding member Melvin Franklin (Bass; Background Vocals) (R.I.P.) Dennis Edwards (Tenor; Lead Vocals) (R.I.P.) Richard Street (Second Tenor; Background Vocals) (R.I.P.) Glenn Leonard (First Tenor/Falsetto; Background Vocals) (Performs with his own Temptations’ tribute group) --------------- (Former member Damon Harris was the original falsetto on the recording.)
I see damon Harris had left the group...by the they recorded this one and Glenn Leonard took his place. Damon was the closet to KENDRICKS sound. All the rest ,just which they were!
Yes Damon sure sounded a lot like Eddie. Not as strong as Eddie he to me had a more relaxed way of singing. Glenn is my favorite after Eddie. Glenn's falsetto was out of this world, such a buttery quality to it.
everytime i get goosboms they beat optimus prime far out lol seriously, this is one of the best funk track, live!! i'm a metal head but fuck! i funk too ol
Well im 26 years old and I like the temptations and I like this song its a great song so we can't just let it roll and forget about it that's why its throw back memories
This is one of my favorite funky, Dennis Edward-led Tempts tunes. “Can you throw me a life-preserver? I’m about to drown in my own tears! Standing in shaky ground ever since you put me down.”
Rest in power Dennis Edwards
Chance Brown. AINT DAT A BITCH...I LOVED DENNIS..
Melvin Franklin was one smooth stepping brother.
WIT BAD LEGZ DOE...
@@princedarkhot I know! Every time I watch this I think about how he was the best dancer up there but he was suffering with severe rheumatoid arthritis.
With all their great hits and dance moves this gotta be one of the greatest ever! This is straight funky and they getting it dancing! YESSIR TEMPTS!!!
wow..this is pure funk!!dennis edwards gettin down!!!bass is blowing my mind!!! the temps are the greatest......taylor ozee
Dennis apparently was ill for quite some time. What a terrible loss. He was a force!!

Fiery funk featuring the vastly underappreciated pipes of Dennis Edwards
Sang that Dennis. This is my cut. This version is very cool and ultra funky.
This is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen of Dennis. They’re all great but this is 11/10.
the Temps were a gift to the world.
rock&roll will never die!
That's definitely one of the more energetic routines I've seen the Temptations do.
Go check out Glass house live performance.
Yes
No phoning it in

Bloody hell they were something else live.
the choreography is simply amazing....
that bassline!!!
Billy "Bass" Nelson❤ originally the Parliament-Funkadelic bassist
I always had a problem accepting Dennis, somehow his voice didnt cut it for me, but this makes me a believer!!!

Dennis Edwards! That brother was a beast!
Love this song and Dennis head whip in the beginning 🤩

Gotta give David the nod too. Dennis woulda killed on My Girl, but tha definitely David’s shining star.
Dennis was the man! RIP

Who can ever forget this classic group -
HAPPY 68TH BIRTHDAY GLENN LEONARD (JUNE 11, 2015)
They were breakin' it down.
Motown writers and producers were definitely listening to Parliament-Funkadelic. The Temps were amazing!
The song was co-written by Eddie Hazel
from my Detroit Bad Boys --the Tempts -- and I did accept Dennis Edwards as a real TEMPTATION ---
This is one of the great performances that I like......
YOU READ MY MIND!! hot damn.. its soooo good it hurts!

Waal waal waal I like that. That choreography!
I love this song since finding out that Eddie Hazel wrote it and performed guitar backup. Eddie of Funkadelic was spreading that funk!
I was born in 1973, my Papa was a Rolling Stone; My Mom(R.I.P.) jamming this taking me to the beach to celebrate her divorce from said Rolling Stone in 1978. Temptations Forever.
Looks like Midnight Special? What a great performance. Dennis Edwards voice really shines in this song.
This is my song even though it didn't have all the original temps on it, those new temps was holding there own here, and they are dancing there asses off
Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin were the only original members.
Soo good - the real deal!
The Temptations making the set Super Funky.
1975 TEMPTATIONS
Pity the quality isn't great... I'm searching for a good version to add to my 70's playlist.,.😢
Ya better getcha LIFE from this performance!
Chance Brown BOY!!
It doesn't get much better than this, people!
Is it just me, or is this live version EVEN FUNKIER than the already too-funky-to-describe studio version!!!??????!?!?!? :)

The music is deep and that plays in the guts.
Yeah Baby! Te to Wake Up - rap ain't where it's at - Temptations, Miracles, Marvin, Sam & Dave, Four Tops,; Soul = Love!
That's Entertainment! 🌟
Outstanding
No on one did it better ...
The choreography and music are on point.
Idk…Delbert’s cover was pretty badass. 🤷🏻♂️
RIP Dennis #TemptationsForever
Yep, they exceeded themselves all right. Very cool.
When are we gonna get a higher quality upload of this EXCELLENT performance?

Wow, Dennis Edwards was a potential solo artist, ballsy voice reminds me of James Brown.
fuckin awesome
Like I just stepped into a big steaming pile of FUNK ME!
@mrcndrn i know that funky guitar is eddie hazel from funkadelic; don't know about the bass though.
Global Warning:gets informed of an Earthqake coming.

men in red! ;-p
David Eddie Dennis was the voice Melvin was the heart Paul was the soul and Otis was the face of the temptation's
there was so much distortion at first (about to skip) and then Edwards reminded me why
@JethroSandwich That and plus they didn't fuck around like today's acts would be allowed to. Back then you had to bring it in EVERY performance.
F.U.N.K seriously...if you ever wanted to know what Funk was....
who are the players playin this set with the temps?
Pretty sure that’s Darryl from The Office.
Too damn fonky!
Dead and Co. let this song roll at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
