What I love about Melvin Franklin's amazing deep voice is how he can continuously sing at a particular deep range for a long period of time without getting tired, while at the same time it sounds like he's creating a remix of the song with his own voice. Melvin Franklin is easily my favorite member of the Temptations.

This was an awesome use of some of the best voices from this legendary group! The way Melvin started off the song definitely generated raw power. He got the audience revved up for what would turn into a powerful presentation from the whole group. There is a reason why this is my all time favorite group. And even though this was not the original lineup, it was one of my favorite configurations of The Temptations.

This is the group that I met in Dothan Alabama and the same set up that would go on and record Silent Night and I actually remember watching this performance when it came out in 1980. Berry Gordy wrote this song and The Tempts had just came back to Motown and Dennis had just returned back to the Tempts. Melvin's bass is amazing and Dennis literally goes to church at the end of the song. It's on the format of a singing preacher and you hear him literally screaming at the end with a amazing performance! The only performance that reminds me of that kind of intensity is Johnny Gill on the end of NE Heartbreak.

    I'll give you pride
I'll save you from the suicide
    I'm your hope
    One salvation
    A one man united nation
All you poor, all you needy
All you're doing is giving to the greedy
Tell me your fears, I'll be your friend,
    I won't don't you in
    All I need is a little . . . Power
I'll make you all, the master race
Just put me in my chosen place
We must work down on our feet
In the lands fields of oil and in the lands of wheat
There’s just one thing I must make perfectly clear
Nuclear weapons is what all men fear

When I first heard this song, it made me think of the first time I heard Melvin sing on Ol Man River. This is another good song.

Melvin and that voice could only be rivaled back in the day by Larry Graham. Peace.

What a great performance of this song "Power!" The video is not that good, but the Temptations' dancing routine and vocals were awesome!!! Go, brother Dennis!

I can remember seeing the Temps in the mid 70s, in the uk. I loved their version of, Ole' man river. RIP Melvin.

one of the reasons was becuse back in 1980 when this song was released the federal goverment had it removed from the shelves becuse it was the inspiration to the florida riots in the cuban refugee camp
