I agree. I think the people who grew up with Temptations in the 60s have a very strong emotional attachment. I came along later. So my emotional attachment to any of them is nil. I am just about the voices. They each had their own voice. Dennis' voice is nothing like David's. Dennis is like that old time country preacher back in the woods with a wood floor. Powerful.
For those of you who are to young to recognize what you just experienced, let me explain: This is talent! Notice how there isn't any dancers or light show. This is how you deliver a performance so powerful that the audience forgets (for a moment) the troubles of their own individual lives. Notice how the audience is suspended in time in that moment. And notice: No one got shot! No one is fighting! It's sad that I have to point that out but, yeah. I have to point this out. Our songs were about love, joy and romance. And when we hear our music today it brings back memories of our youth. This is what is missing from contemporary R&B/hip-hop/rap/overly sampled music today.
The Temptations were incredibly lucky to have Dennis right after David. Dennis helped the group turn into a soul group that touched some serious issues with their songs and really carved his own path with the group. Then they got lucky again with Ali Ollie Woodson who was a hybrid of Dennis and David. Three great singers all in the history of one group! Amazing!
Dennis Edward's my favorite Temptations but it cannot be denied the enormous talent of both David Ruffin and Ollie Woodson. All amazing soul singers. Rest Emperors of Soul, rest...
Paul Williams was the reason that the Temptations were signed to Motown in the first place and Eddie Kendricks has had the most successful solo career including a Grammy nomination! Cannot forget these two great singers.
Dennis, Dennis, Dennis, What a FABULOUS Temptation !!! And the dude can STILL Blow!!! Miss all of the temps but Thank God we still have Dennis and Otis! We miss Ollie Woodson who was also the bomb! Wish Dennis and Otis would reunite!!
Charles Stevens ... Yeah bro. I just found out that a song I wrote, played drums and sang lead on for my band in 1977 is on RUclips! Go check it out. It's called Don't Act Surprised, by Charisma.
SADLY WE LOST THE GREAT DENNIS EDWARDS...ONE OF THE GREATEST SOULSINGERS EVER..."A SONG FOR YOU" IS YR MASTERPIECE AND THE TEMPTATIONS WILL BE YR LEGACY...THANK U NOW REST MY FRIEND YOU did WELL...
IN A PLACE, IN A PLACE, IN A PLAAAAAAACE ! aw man that is so sweet !the TEMPTATIONS !!.........that name just fits that group like no other,it who they are.
Donny's and The Temptation's version of this song are my absolutely favorites. Donny and Dennis sing the same some, but each has their own interpretation. Dennis's takes us back to the Black Church, so does Donny, but in a different way. Donny's version has more strings. Each version is beautiful.
Dennis Edwards was absolutely the best replacement for David Ruffin. He has that strong raspy, soulful voice like David's voice, but Dennis's voice is stronger and he has the old Baptist minster edge to it. Man do I miss this kind of music that I grew up on. Because the junk that they produce today is not even worth listening to. Thank God I still have my ol' school music to listen to!
Rest in Heaven Dennis Edwards. You left us almost a yr. ago. I was in High School when you became a member of the Temptations. I’ve listened to The Temps. music ever since. I know you made Donnie proud singing his song.” A Song for You”. I was devastated when you passed. It’s a price we all have to pay. Hope to see you when I Transition!!
My my my Dennis Edward's should have been mentioned more in that movie. The more I see these videos the more O begin understand what he did to save the group.. Everybody likes the originals but Dennis came in like Otis said he was hungry.. Well he took the Temptations and carried them on his back... This song if you got any soul in you at all you would know this is a special moment of a Leon Russell song that Dennis made his own. One day I look at all the hits Dennis sang lead on. He was a dominant force. And then the all the guys who came after were just fantastic. And a lot credit should be given to Otis for continuing to build on the legacy. All the groups who have come and gone. Oh yeah Dennis didn't do so bad with the Revue. That lead singer, that bass singer, tenor, and then bring in Paul Williams Jr. That's just brilliant. Rest in Peace Dennis you took me through college with Glass House album where this song is listed. I think I listen one time. He took them people on the front row to church. RIP Dennis you go down as one the greatest singers who was so humble to Others who sang before him.
I'll see you in my dreams the lyrics to the song even though I had never met you in person it seems that I but knowing you forever6 Hemi take me with your smile and your grace !!
I have never heard any other person sing that song like Dennis Edwards can sing that song the Temptation where the baddest group that has ever walked the face of this Earth they have the tightest Harmony closest Harmony than any other male group in the world I don't care what nobody say in my opinion could know Mel group touch him from the early years to the later years could no one touch him they had some of the most phenomenal lead voices ever in one group even when they brought a new replacement the new Replacements would be right on point the harmonies were still tight as hell I like Boys to Men but the Boyz II Men could not touch the Temptations The Temptations could sing anything and everything and kill it a lot of these groups today get paid so much money and to me the Temptation should have been filthy rich and today you don't even get raw talent you get gimmicks but they get paid more money Temptations forever
The SONG FOR YOU Album may as well had been A DENNIS EDWARDSr.i.p.Solo Album. He planted and left His mark Right There.MEMORIES, I'M A BACHELOR,SONG FOR YOU..Once He left You exclude them from the Live Performances.Love&Peace😎😁luv ya byo eJ
I recall watching this episode of Midnight Special. The background harmonies the Tempts displayed on this song was awesome! What you heard on the album is what you got live. It seems the quality of talent today just can't cut it. I am glad to have witnessed their talent..
Holy effing shit! This is real, live music, band on stage, talent to the Nth degree.... and wow, what a vocal! We are so lucky to have this. RIP Mr. Dennis Edwards, a musical legend.
While I see that some like Louis Price's rendition (I think it's a style preference), Dennis could shout the walls down. By the way, did y'all notice Glenn Leonard smiling when he knew Dennis was about to go in? LOL
Rest In Peace To The Lead Singer That Gave The Temptations Their First Grammy Awards. The Man That Inspired Aretha Franklin To Write The Hit Classic Song Day Dreaming. Don't Look Any Further! The One And Only Dennis Edwards!!!!!!!!! Rest In Peace King! #TemptationsForever
This song is still a grand slam masterpiece the temptations is the kings of all groups & always remain to have all of they're king's of God crowns 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 salute VC I'm out
Hats off to the wardrobe Dept. at Motown, Tempt's look like 5 Black super heroes who could protect the world. I bet the people in front will always remember this night.
The whole album (title-"A Song For You", cover-all black and all the songs) are stellar. This album was genius because it showed the Temptations as true balladeers!
If you remember, there was a TV commercial for that LP. Whatever I was doing in the house, I would stop in my tracks and be swept away by it. The last few seconds of the commercial had the ending of "Song For You". That always ran through my spirit. Phew!
Feb.3: Happy birthday Dennis Edwards. Singer. 'Nuff said. Blessings. He put his fingerprints all over this cut, tha's passion right there; Paul Williams sang the same way, passionate. ....thanks for the upload. Blessings
I love this version and Donny's version the best of all of the renditions I have heard. Donny sang this song totally different and in his unique way, just like Dennis and the Tempts are singing it hear. I love them both equally.
I do think you are right the folks who hate on Dennis and the others are mad tht the group to fall apart after the departure of David. In fact, they had just as many hits, and with Dennis, he took the group in another direction vocally. They began to sing more music with adult content and socially significant lyrics. I love this song on Dennis' lips. Beautiful!
ONE OF THE GREATEST LOVE SONGS EVER WRITTEN, AND DENNIS EDWARDS PUT THE EXCLAMATION POINT 2 IT, LISTEN TO THE HARMONY, MELVIN IS THE SURPREME BASS SINGER, RIP LEON RUSSELL, AND THANK YOU FOR MY FAVORTE SONG.RIP

Had this song on my ipod as part of a Quiet Storm CD. Just yesterday this song came up as a random play & I was STUNNED at this version. Dont remember ever hearing it before. Sorrie Donnie but this version of the Temptations nailed it & is he best version I've ever heard !!!
The Tempts did not win a Grammy until Dennis was at the mic as lead singer. Also, under his rein as lead singer they had many many gold and platinum albums. The Tempts really came into their own with Dennis as their lead singer. Kudos to the great Dennis Edwards.
You have to remember that they was kids when they first Got together, as they got older they became better! but during the time when Dennis came they was just evolving to who they really were.... So yes Dennis was part of that Transformation!!!!! but that whole group was who they were..... Everyone 1of them boys was singers.let's not lose focus "smoke Robinson" wrote 99% of the songs.... He could gave that song to anybody in that group and it would've done the same thing because it was The temptations, it was just that timing.
Well, they should have won a Grammy before then, in my opinion! The Grammys never made a lot of sense. I'd like to look at who won all those years before...maybe tonight :)
Dennis Edwards was my favorite Temptation. He had one of the loudest and most powerful male voices I ever heard, he and Rick James. They hit notes with volume that a lot of people couldn’t hit.
Profiles in Pittsburgh 🖤💛😘 I love this song and I'm so blessed to have brother Dr Otis Williams still the leader of the Temptations group. I wish there was a way I could express my appreciation and love for people while they are alive. That is what hurts the most, I think. Do singers who have ministered to us peace really get to know how much we were moved by their performances? I hope so. That was the best song on that album. I was 7 or 8 when it came out. Even then, it took my heart to another place.
Dennis Edwards was a bad brotha! The voice and the looks!
It’s 2023 I’m still listening to this sound of music I’m old school this is the best music they song from the heart

He helped them win three Grammys something David couldn’t do.

Of all the covers of Leon Russell's classic song-this is by far the best. It captures the passion of it's message.
Phenomenal Album! Dennis was and still is a Beast on the vocals!!! He laid it down just right!
The entire album is just a gem..
Charles Thompson indeed brother Charles.
You are so right--wore this album out! This was my favorite.
