- I've finally managed to speak to Linus and the Wizard at the Spirit's Eve Festival! People had always wondered what they had to say given that they were standing outside the playable area but still in view. Well now we have the answers! Stardew Valley gameplay with my commentary as always!
Linus is actually 3 Junimos in a burlap sack covered in wool disguised as a human.

The wizard made Pam forget Linus is Penny's father and now Linus has to help the Wizard in his yearly sacrifices to keep the Pam Monster away

I was guessing Linus is Jas' father that's why they all just told her he died. Or maybe grandfather, that's why Jas disgrace her grandfather in her drawing.
What if Linus WAS a wizard when he was younger but somehow lost his magical abilities? The wizard doesn't like talking to "mundane folk" so clearly he doesn't view Linus as one of them. Linus is very out of touch with normal society which is why he prefers to live outside in a tent away from people. His fondness of nature could also be from him having to understand it like the wizard does when he was magical so him staying connected to it reminds him of who he once was. Idk that's just a theory A GAME THEORY THANKS FOR READING.

Aww I was doing the strength machine at the Stardew Valley Fair and only once I got "Mountain Troll". I wanted to screenshot it and paste Pam's picture on there. These last couple comments reminded me of that haha.
I think it’s cool that they have dialogue , maybe the developer knew that people would figure out a way to talk to them. I really appreciate him doing it.

Yeah skeletons and the animals (in the fall festival I thin, right?), a lot of things with speech prompt to them but you can't really do anything within the game's boundaries.... It should be interesting!

The Wizard granted immortality to a once nobleman who was a great friend of his repaying a favor of granting him gemstones for his magical work, who through the centuries squandered his riches, which leaves the poor penniless Linus you see before you.
Being so humbled by his many years, Linus now lives happily in poverty, as well as continues his many lifetimes friendship with the Wizard.
Linus is actually an elemental, which is why he lives by himself up in the mountains and always surrounds himself with nature. It's also why he refuses to come live with you on the farm if you get the interaction where you can ask him in the game update. He is unable to interact up close with the townspeople most of the time, so he has enlisted the wizard to make a maze where he can watch all the townspeople up close at once, and that's why he says "Good show, old friend". The wizard serves the elementals, in this case Linus, perhaps in exchange for the knowledge of the Junimo language and the ingredients/ recipe for the potion at the beginning of the game that lets you be one with nature and help the junimos. This also suggest that the wizard is not innately magical, but is just obsessed with knowledge of the strange/ magical things and applications of them, and has perhaps learned most of his magic from Linus. This obsession passed down to his daughter, Abigail.
Also, the wizard had an affair (resulting in Abigail) which is why his wife the witch left him and was mad enough to take out her anger on everyone, causing the wizard to seal her away. And since the entrance to the witch's swamp where she was sealed is closest to Linus' hut, he probably helped the wizard seal her there.

I think the wizard and Linus might actually be brothers, both raised by nature. Linus was interested in the sky, the water, the natural life away from the city which is why he lives in a tent in the mountains. The wizard, however, wanted something _more_ than nature. Something out of the ordinary, which led him to magic. Both of them connect in their ‘unsocial’ lives, independence, isolation.

Durring the winter fishing festival in year one the wizard is unreachable standing by his tower and has dialog aveliable.
Theory:
Linus is a wizard too. Instead of wizard life, he tries living in the wild to see how it's like.
The other wizard is his old friend. They usually don't show themselves together, 'cause they don't want to make others suspicious.
Other, weirder theory:
The wizard mentions that someone from town is their kid. People think that it's Abigail, but actually Linus is the kid. It's possible 'cause he's probably an immortal wizard.

Not even a little bit accurate. Rasmodius is her father. There are many, many prompts in the game that basically tell you that Pierre isn't her real dad.
I wonder what does the witch look like before the Wizard cheated on her. Well as the player has the ability to see jinamos then perhaps the witch is our biological mother.

I recently discovered that you can find abigail at the wizard's tower around the 7 of fall sometime after 5pm I thought it was interesting so I decided to share this with you in case you didn't know
She’s there every Sunday night.
Someone before had suggested a mod making all the monsters into pams, and I thought that could be a fun idea. Now that I see the Halloween festival here, I'm thinking a lot more fun may be had with that than just the mine monsters! The skeletons in the pen... the rarecrow being sold behind the counter... everything in the maze (what pamish thing could show up on the television in the maze??)... the possibilities here boggle the creative mind! Good luck, modders!

I can't figure out their history but the wizard basically comments on how he and linus don't fit in and also that he built the maze to study/ observe the villagers for other wizards/ elementals that are more important than himself.
So in a way he could be saying that Linus is also an elemental previously sent to study the valley
The maze I assume was to see the intelligence of the people in the valley - so he built it for the information he was gathering for other wizards
He actually mentions that he's looking for an apprentice, if you talk to him enough. This is a good theory!
I know the wizard is hiding in the egg hunt, with several inaccessible eggs as well. Most of the festivals actually have subtle map changes and the wizard is in almost all of them, some with more easter-eggy dialogue. there's also an entirely unused path and map above the train station that fans call "the Summit" that's actually been restored fully through mods.
I think that the wizard has had two wife's both robin and Caroline and that he's Sebastias and Abigails father and that Linus is a old friend and that's why he lives so close to Robins house the wizard wants him to keep an eye on Sebastian.

Linus and the wizard are both outcasts to the town and both have knowledge about the world they live in different to others so they have things in common. Linus usually stays in the background of each festival and the wizard never shows up. The wizard made the maze and Linus chose to hang with him to have company instead of sitting in the corner. Of they're both magic
If you go to Linus' and the Wizards' wiki profiles, it says that they are friends with eachother.

I am disappoint. I shall keep my headcanon that they’re sleeping together because the wizard feels especially freaky on Halloween due to some magic reason.

Linus is an expert forager and probably delivered arcane ingredients to him over the years before you moved to Stardew Valley. They became friends in the process but meet very rarely because they are both loners and stuff.

The Wizard is supposed to be at the Easter event too, he shows up in the map editor at Joja mart, but he isn't there when you get to him, it's strange. I can compile a map pack for you with a bunch of little additions and improvements to the game for anyone looking for a fresh start. I just did a lot of cleaning and compiled two community maps into it. Opens up the game and makes the play-through much more pleasant, without using cheats to teleport :P
Wait I never saw the two standing together in any reachable area, and I'm 10 years into the game. I beat the maze every year.
I think the point of having them there is to cause us to ask questions and speculate, just like you were doing. How do they know each other? What do they have to do with one another? Speculating on such things is often more fun than being given the answer.

A Common Theory is, that Linus, the wizard and Mona I think she was called (also she is supposed to be the person that wrote some of the books) were a adventure group. The wizard stays in this town because he likes it there and another reason that I forgot :), it is thought it’s also because the grave of a friend is there. Linus likes to read Books, probably the ones from Mona, he also I think said that he once was an adventure. Mona was an adventurer how everyone should know, it was said in the Abigail (primacy) heart route
If love to see you play Sheltered! It's a steam survival game, you have to keep at least one family member alive but you can do whatever you want with the other survivors, you can be a good person or a jerk. I think it would be fun game to watch you play just a one off
In the ice fishing competition the wizard is satnding on front of his tower blocked by Linus' igloo.
I think I read somewhere that both were actually supposed to be approachable during the festival and that was their dialogue. Then Eric banished them up the cliff but never deleted the dialogue so yeah. I'm not surprised that they don't reveal a big secret.
Seem to recall during either the spring dance or the ice festival, the wizard standing out of your reach. Right, he's standing in front of his towrr during the ice fest- blocked, of course, and he is outside the fence to the dance towards the north.

My personal theory is that Linus used to be the founder or CEO of Joja Corp and something happened that led to him leaving the company and kind of rebelling against any form of industrialized society. (Like.. maybe his life fell apart with his corrupt company and he's trying to atone or escape or something). He is SUPER adamant about living an impoverished, minimalist life in the woods, and is determined that he must be an outsider that everyone hates. He won't even let you build him a hut or help on your farm. And I think he always manages to be absent whenever the Joja people show up. Buuuuut that's just my backstory for him til proven otherwise lol
I think the wizard is hiding somewhere in every event. I think in the egg festival, he's over where Jojamart is.
I think Linus has some sort of connection with the apple creatures and can understand them which causes the wizard to want Linus to teach him. In return the wizard is helping Linus master magic.
Linus is a type of wizard, like Radaghast the Brown in LOTR. That's my opinion though.

They are both loners, people don’t notice of care about them and when they do interact with them they have pre determined opinions, that is why they are talking, simply because they have that in common
What about Pierre's dialogue? It seems he has the option to talk but he cannot be reached due to Haley being in the way of his stall. Even if you try to push pass her, you still cannot reach him. I know that in every other festival/holiday, I always try talking to Pierre but this one instance I can't. I doubt it would be anything special like Linus or the Wizard but I see no one talking about it.

Wizard refers to them as mortals but Linus doesn’t really say anything, it’s pretty obvious but I’m assuming Linus isn’t exactly human he could be a wizard too since wizards and witches come in all different styles. Or maybe Linus is something different and just appears human?
