- Turns out there's a a type of tree for your farm that I had no idea existed. Obviously I thought it would be fun to try and acquire one of these. Turns out no one knows about them for a reason, they are extremely rare and hard to find. But I got one! Stardew Valley gameplay with my commentary as always!

I had lightning hit one of my trees in a new game, and was terrified that it was going to die on me without producing any fruit. I was much relieved when I not only got coal from it, but it returned to perfect health after a few days! A very interesting phenomenon!
Same I got worried at first. I'm not sure if it was just when I has noticed it happened but when I blew up a bomb a nearby tree had coal and I didn't remember it being like that before hand. Guess some tests are in order

Once lightning strucked my only rare seed - I was pretty mad :D So many other seeds around and that Lightning must choose the rare one :D

My pomegranate tree was suddenly smoking and I didn't realize it was producing coal. It stayed that way half of fall and I was so frustrated I didn't have my pomegranates. It wasn't until I googled that I realized I needed to harvest it to make it go back to normal and learned how rare the event was.

Dude, could you make a mod that lets you spawn enemies at will? It'd surely help with the achievements in the guild.
@DrunkShroom It's not that simple, but if you get in you'll quickly adapt to specific things. For this mod I had to patch game files to raise the probability of a lightning hitting trees to 100% and aswell implement the function to spawn those.
I found out dino eggs are rare... on my first game ever in the first year i found one. And of course instead of getting a dino and more eggs i just donated it :/
Ya me too ive found two dinosaur eggs just by fishing, one in my first year and the other in the begining of my second.

I have over 350 hours on the switch and I have only ever found 1 Dino egg and I immediately died in the mines and it was taken never had one since kinda makes u hate the game a little 🙃
I got it my first ever file first day and donated it I also did that with old seeds a day later

Lightning only strikes on your farm. It will make the sound while outside of your farm but will only actually strike the farm.
Lightening doesn't hit Pam, Pam hits lightening.

This happened to me and I thought my tree wilted... the tree was a cherry tree that was growing done baring fruit as it was summer and when I saw the fumes I assumed it had wilted so I chopped it down, wish I'd seen this first!

Unfortunately, my reaction was to chop down the tree since I thought it was a goner and plant a new one.
... man was I pissed when I learned that it'd have recovered shortly afterwards... not to mention the free coal.

My very first year of my very first time playing SDV, one of my fruit trees did this and I had no idea why. I also didnt know there was a SD wiki or online community so I continued to wonder for a ridiculously long time. Crazy things happen in the valley. Its like an episode of Supernatural. Hey! There’s a mod idea. Sam and Dean would go quite nicely on my farm. Take care of that creepy ghost of my grandpa....

My sister got a coal tree shortly after her two fruit trees grew back. They're so rare, I think they should remain coal trees.

IIRC, you can't. Fruit trees can't be sapped to start with, only mapple, pine and oak tress. And I imagine the tapper would be destroyed if hit.

I had this happen a couple of times in my first playthrough and I remember being mad about it. It's crazy that it's actually a rare occurrence!
I actually had this happen right at the start of the second year in game when I planted my first fruit trees and I thought it just killed your tree, I chopped it down and was so angry at the game for destroying my tree.

Have you tried putting a torch beneath a fruit tree? It smolders the same as it does if hit by lightening. Maybe it gives coal too?

@TooLateToTheParty oh, lol. As of my knowledge, putting a torch beneath a fruit tree will not turn it into a fruit tree. But I haven't really tested this too much, so I could be wrong, but i don't think so

I played for awhile and saw the coal trees and also decided to do some research on it, I’ve realized that most usually apricot trees on my farm would become coal trees rather than say cherry or apples.
How oddly appropriate for DF to find a new source of coal as Christmas draws near, now he has something for the kids
Since lightning can destroy your precious crops (provided you haven't built a lightning rod), the game designed luck for lightning as inversely proportional (higher luck:less lightnings)(lower luck:more lightnings)

Oh yeah, this happened to me when I bought one of every fruit tree. I thought it was pretty common because it happened in pretty much every save file I did that.

I remember this happening to me and subsequently looking up why my tree was smoking.
That last bit had me in tears it was just in the way the vid ended after all that effort
Df I noticed on the cherry tree that got hit, the fruits on it turned into coal, so there seems to be a potential maximum of six coal from each coal tree.

I found that a lot of people dont know this but you can have up to 10 trees growing in the greenhouse without obstructing its garden, its nice because trees bare fruit indefinitely

This happened to me randomly twice. The first time I only had about 4 trees planted - I was horrified to see 2 had been struck and were smoking. They were new trees and hadn't even fruited yet! I just assumed they were toast, and chopped them down disappointedly (I didn't get stumps remaining like in your video) but a few coal lumps fell out. The second time it happened I realised I shouldn't have chopped those trees down!

You're actually right, I just went back and checked the mega fruit orchard video and I did mention it there. But being that I've also forgotten 40% of the videos I've ever made small details like this tends to slip through. If you had asked me this morning if coal trees were a thing I would have said no.

Coal tree is best tree
You spaced your trees a little far away. They do require the 8 free spaces around them to be free, but they can overlap. They only require one space between them
This is true of normal trees, but fruit trees can't overlap the area of other fruit trees, so you do need minimum two empty spaces between them.

I discovered the Coal tree on one of my playthroughs. With my first apple tree. That I was using to fulfill the fodder bundle. 5 days before the end of autumn.
I had a coal tree on my farm. I had just planted a new apricot tree and it got struck by lightning and made a coal tree. I didn't know they were a thing either so I chopped it down and planted a new one. And now I know they just fix themselves. I wish I knew that earlier

I'm binging a lot of DF's stardew valley after not playing for 2 years. I can't believe a lot of the rare stuff happened in my first year. Also, I was confused when for a full week my orange tree had coals and thought that it was interesting how they have lightning hitting trees in the summer.

Btw DF you're more likely to find a dinosour egg in winter with high luck and a lucky lunch. This is because more worms spawn in winter and more luck might help. I'm not sure if the luck effects it at all but in winter I tend to find one or two dino eggs a year bc of that.
I learned through clock mods that lighting strikes at set times. A trick for getting lightning to hit things is to just shift the clock back and forth between 2 times that lightning hits. The mods better obviously. But this works too

surprisingly i did know about this, even tho i didn't know about a ton of other things on this channel lol! I had a coal tree ONCE, with lightning rods on my farm, but they were at opposite ends? It was in fall, and it struck a spring tree.
I noticed when playing, if i put lightning rods near the house, they dont get hit very often, but if i put them away from the house, they got hit more frequently. Maybe there's an area around the house that is more protected than the rest of the farm. The outer tree's seem to indicate that in this video too
If you use the set time tool the lightning still strikes. So, if you set the next day to lightning, wakeup, and skip eash hour at a time, you can get through 18 strikes (ir so) in about 20 seconds.
