I love the boyfriend. "I like the food but I'm a bricklayer, what do I know?" A nice change from people insisting that the international chef doesn't know anything about food.

Told my son today that when you hear "we're a family here" at your job, you need to make a pros and cons list right away.
I only worked in one kitchen that actually acted like family. I even named my son after my boss. Not once did the phrase we're a family ever come out of someone's mouth. We just acted like it. Good and bad. Every kitchen that says that is the most toxic place.
Lol! 🙂
We are a family is code for we are all dysfunctionally codependent
When i worked for Coca-Cola that was a thing they always said, the worst types of people in a company ive worked with...family my fckin ass
He needs to just find another job honestly
Classic American remained in business until 2013, almost four years after Gordon visited. They had a lot of success, and the new menu and changed stayed. But the overwhelming mountain of debt continued to eat at their business, and the restaurant was sold to Blu Mediterranean, which lasted from 2015 to 2022, before closing due to the Pandemic. The building remains empty as of late 2023.
The pandemic ruined everything man ...its aggravating

@@mtl6562So FUCKING what? Him holding a cigarette has NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS PALMS NOW DOES IT? NOPE! YOU'RE JUST LOOKING TO START SHIT WITH SMOKERS... CUT IT OUT! In case you're wondering, they've closed and the building i believe is a car speaker and detailing place now. It WAS another restaurant after this episode but that one failed too. Honesty part of it they NEVER got into is the fact of the lack of good parking over there. The road weather was located on his route 109 West. I know this for a fact because I used to live there...one light East of them is well you made the turn. I also worked in a restaurant on the corner of Route 109 and straight Path Avenue. Ok that corner on the opposite side is the Route 109 DINER which serves excellent food and it's been around since the 50s. So back then during this episode, anyone traveling west ON Route 109? They would have passed the diner...and then Silvio's... Then a mile and a half down the road they would have found that place which had no parking you had to go around the back. Sooo... Has Gordon says won't you miss that sign for them you have to go past their entrance. You'd actually have to go to the next light and make a u-turn and then go again and make another u-turn. THAT was always part of the issue as to why people wouldn't go there. If you went to the light and made a right you would be over by the two cemeteries. Once again you have to keep going in order to make a u-turn which is about 2 mi down the road. So they're not exactly as visible as they portray AND honestly I don't know how much you expect when you are literally putting out KRAFT macaroni and cheese! LOOK AT IT! THAT'S what it is, he's pre-made it and he put it into cups that's all it is because it's bright orange and IT'S Kraft's macaroni and cheese, any mother recognizes that pasta! You're lucky he's not out there smoking crack! So don't be discriminatory against people... Because honestly, he doesn't have to throw his cigarette away because he uses his palm to hug her. To use the BACK OF HIS HAND id ridiculous AS ARE YOU! #NYGenXBIKERLady

I'd be surprised if you'd ever worked in any part of a restaurant but, CLEARLY, you've never worked in a kitchen. If only you knew how absurd it would look if just about any restaurant owner in America tried to implement such a tyrranical policy. The speed of their turnover rate would break the sound barrier. That's assuming prospective employees aren't getting all the facts until after employment is finalized; otherwise most of them aren't even making it through the hiring process to BECOME turnover.

one thing i've learned from all these shows is: you don't need a big menu. and from my own esperience as a customer i prefer a small menu, so i think that's the way to go. make your menu small and nail every dish.
ruclips.net/video/9w_B_9cShts/видео.html
That's the one thing I've noticed Gordon telling the owners.....have a smaller menu which is manageable and where possible use local produce and seasonal.
Small menus are terrible for people, who don't eat everything. As a gluten and lactose intolerant vegetarian, I often just eat a salad, because there is nothing else I can eat. Especially if there's a small menu with only 1 or 2 vegetarian dishes.
@@Besitzerstolz man up
Here in France, my favorite restaurants use a chalk board for the menu of the day. What they bought that morning.
2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts to chose from.
Fresh and seasonal!
No matter if you like or dislike Gordon and his methods - he always tries his best to help ...! I've got great respect for him...!
u got a huge W
Gordon's big thing is that only you and your passion for what you want can fix the core of your own problems. A lot of people could use a 5 minute teardown from Gordon
I also noticed. He is caring in some ways. This is not just for television sake. But he really cares about the owners and the business.
I describe Gordon like an army drill sergeant. He first has to tear them down in order to build them back up.
same he's professional and his intentions are pure
"But what the f I know, I used to lay bricks" - a honest man
Never really noticed it before (perhaps because they never really inform the guest diners that appear on the type of restaurant it is), but it's kinda funny seeing people dressed up for a fine dining experience show up in a small casual joint.
I think word gets on the street that Ramsey is in the house. So they probs dress nice for the TV lol
They're 100% invited or even paid.
Think about it:
1) Why is Gordon comming? Because business isn't running well and if things aren't changing they have to close. Since the management wasn't covered in a single episode (at least the ones I saw) it's the lack of customers - every single time.
And just when Gordon want's to see how they perform on diner time and at relaunch suddenly every single table has a customer? Yeah, looks realistic to me (sarcasm).
2) Every single time he want's to see them perform at diner time and show them how bad their food is, customers are sending barely touched food back to the kitchen. I don't live in US, but I don't believe for a second that that's usual behavior from customers there. Usually only a few are really complaining and even less people refuse to eat it after a few bites.
If 50%+ of the customers would sent their food back barely touched even the most stubborn chef would wake up. But thats usually not the case. Especially since "didn't taste good enough" is not a valid reason to not pay.
@@EngineScypex well idk, in the beginning of a lot of the episodes I notice that they mention they're throwing a lot of food off the plate out--it's just less noticeable bcuz the volume of ppl is so low at that point. Yea Ramsay and his crew probably take measures to make sure the restaurant fills for service night both before and after the menu relaunch, but the food beforehand just really must be that godawful LOL
The guests are 100% invited but NOT paid. I had this show come to my town for a local restaurant. It's a popular show EVERYONE knows who Chef Ramsey is. The PR team goes around telling the locals that the Chef is coming to help and film the restaurant and that's pretty much all they gotta go. A LOT of people want a chance to be seen on TV for just a second, or even just for the experience. But they aren't paid, there's plenty people that want to go just cause the show is filming. Also people know ahead of time that it's "Kitchen Nightmares" so they know the food is probably bad. People aren't sending the food back because they are scripted, people in the US usually do send food back when it's crappy food. The only difference is that now it's en masse because there's actually a full restaurant as opposed to the 8 tables a day they are used to.
All in all, the show is semi-scripted because it creates situations for drama that are worth filming, but it's not a full "set-up" because nobody is paid to act a particular way. Guests just act however they want to. @EngineScypex
@juanpablogarcia5362 I believe the meals are all paid for by production tho? I could be wrong

Love how owners almost always go like "Everyone loves our food!" while the place is in -700,000$ in debt and rising 😂😂
Ya but thy didn't say that
That's a major problem with Restaurants.
People see Restaurants as Cash Cows, so they go up to their eyeballs in debt to buy one.
They don't know what it takes to run a restaurant, or have any ready cash to keep it running until it turns a profit.
So even if the Restaurant is revived, they're STILL drowning in debt.

For those that want to know what happened next:
Thanks to Gordon’s changes, things seemed to be going better for Classic American.
Gordon revisited Classic American in Episode 5 of Season 5, which is the same episode where he revisited Downcity in Providence Rhode Island and Davide in Boston, Massachusetts.
When he goes back to the restaurant, Gordon discovers that Naomi and Kevin are running the kitchen while Colleen is in charge of the front of the restaurant and interacts with customers.
Business is up 35% which is a huge improvement and helps the Classic American owners pay down their purchasing debt.
Gordon also orders some food, the meat loaf, and rates it a 10.5/10, which is high praise from the critical chef.
As a surprise, Gordon presents them with an award from Good Times Magazine - the Long Island’s Best Burger Award.
Beyond Gordon’s praise, the Yelp reviews for the business seemed to be improved. Though the overall Yelp rating was only 3.5 stars, a lot of the recent reviews seemed to be more positive.
Classic American closed for good in August 2013, which was a little over three years after the visit from Gordon Ramsay and Kitchen Nightmares.
As of 2022, the old Classic American location in Long Island is occupied by a new restaurant called Blu Mediterranean!. Reviews for the restaurant seem good as it has a four-star rating on Yelp.
When the Classic American owners closed the restaurant, they didn’t share a specific reason why the restaurant closed but they did post a note saying that they would still be offering catering services.
Yo thanks for this!
I swear every restaurant from this show is closed now

What I don’t understand with these restaurants is the amount of staff. They have 8 tables, yet several servers, 2 owners, a manager and a few people in the kitchen. My parents ran a restaurant with 15 tables with 3 people total for 20 years. The personnel costs alone are exorbitant.
It 's the USA, maybe the salaries are not high and in my life, I saw small restaurants with lots of customers.

The problem with saying items on the menu are your "most popular" when you have a dwindling customer base, most of whom don't return, is that they're not YOUR most popular items. They're items that are commonly popular that people have had better elsewhere, and are often the safe options, so when they come to your restaurant, that's what they'll go for. I mean, calamari and a burger, they're probably two of THE most common dishes, so people will come, be disappointed, and never come again. They're the most popular because no one ever comes back to try something different

As soon as I heard she had employed her son, I was like “well that’s strike one”... it’s hard to work with family, it’s really bad of anyone to force family members to work in something they don’t want to(usually the case in these episodes) and usually kitchen nightmares boils down to ONE thing -the food.

Classic American closed in September 2013. It was the last restaurant on Long Island visited by Ramsay to remain open (every restaurant he remade on Long Island has since closed). Just a dozen of the show's 77 "nightmares" are still operating as of mid-2023. That means just 16% of restaurant rescues carried out by the show were truly successful in the long run.

I would tell the texting smoking waitresses that they can easily be replaced if caught one more time outside or texting.
Bro don makes me laugh he’s literally the only one of the big 4 with zero restaurant experience but somehow is the only one who can see the true problems
