    My first and best advice was be humble. Accept the knowledge and feedback from others. Be professional with CNAs, phlebotomists, secretary, and housekeeping. Everyone is part of the team.

    Awesome advice. I’m just wrapping up my first semester, and I turned 50 this week. I know people will look at me and assume that I’m experienced and that I know what I’m doing, so I need to get comfortable saying “I’m new” and asking for help.

    I only hope to have half that emotional maturity in a future instructor if I go into nursing.

    This is excellent advice! As a new nurse, I am guilty of not taking breaks until 11 or 12 and lunch around 2 or so. I work 12-hour weekends 7a-7p and I like to make sure all of my tasks are done before I break although my nurse supervisor says to make sure I'm taking my breaks and some stuff can wait until I have taken a break. I think that is the Type A personality in me by needing to get everything done. This was excellent advice. I had great instructors both in the classroom and in clinical. I think you are awesome and would have loved to have had you as a clinical instructor. You are very thorough and your explanations are clear and precise!

    Wow, I have been binge watching ur vids and I just wished that I had a u 25yrs ago. I know that I was called to be n healthcare; I delighted in the care of patients as a PCA in a local hospital and I was constantly encouraged by nurses, doctors etc to further my training, so I did just that........ just to do all of that schooling and walk completely away from healthcare. From racial disparities, bureaucracy/politics, cliques, bullying etc was just all too too much.
    Im almost inclined to contact DOE about my license; u r extremely encouraging and I am much older than u r. U r truly an asset to only to nursing but humanity as a whole.

I interviewed for a LPN position in a rehab facility (I pray that I get it) and my biggest fear is that I won’t be quick as the other staff and that I will ask a lot of questions while may make me “handicapped “ on the shift. Other healthcare workers including doctors are usually understanding if you say you're new. In my experience, it's other nurses who get an attitude and will give you a harder time and act impatient if you say you're new.

    Introduction is huge! Preceptors are not trained and therefore they trained you however they want.
    I was handed a binder with what to do each week and my preceptor didn’t even look at it.
    Plus mine takes brake around 3-4 when I asked I got pushed back.
    He hated my black ass bc I spoke up.
    I love nursing but had to quit bc of the preceptor and educator not listening to me asking for someone else instead became a target.

    New Graduate here 🤗 thank you 🙏🏽 I am preparing for NCLEX now. Any tips lol? Thank you for your service in this field. It gets “ruff”. I’ve worked as a PCT previously and I know it’s difficult at times.

    • @KendraRN
      @KendraRN  2 года назад +5

      Don’t wait too long to take the NCLEX. What are you using to study? Be sure to do all of the questions and read the rationales even if you got the question right. Reading the rationales right or wrong, helps you to understand why your selection was the right or wrong answer. Welcome to nursing! I’ll post more content geared to new nurses.

      @@KendraRN thank you so much 😊 I am using Uworld and Mark K vids. Also would like your opinion, I have a son and I’ve been a little skeptical about working 12 hour shifts only because I am the primary provider. Do you know of any positions that will suit someone like me. I would still like to stay fresh with my skills as well 😬

    • @KendraRN
      @KendraRN  2 года назад +2

      Hey! 12 hours are long but as a new grad, I’m not sure where else is best to start. Most places want to know that you’ve had some nursing experience. Is childcare an issue? Also I hear U World is really good, keep it simple.

    • @graceandpeace2364
      @graceandpeace2364 2 года назад +2

      @@KendraRN childcare isn’t too much of an issue, besides me wanting to be independent and not place the responsibilities on my parents. Although they live in close proximity they have lives as well. Loll. Yes ma’am, Uworld and Kaplan is hard to me and I can only get half of 50 questions correct. This isn’t a confidence booster. But I am going back to read rationals etc.

    • @RNScrub
      @RNScrub 2 года назад +2

      Sometimes Quizlet can help too. They have a good amount of “practice” questions on there. Always remember that as an RN, you’re pretty much utilizing ADPIE. Know your systems (i.e. pulmonary, cardiac… etc.). What the common labs are as well as the treatment for the most common diseases. Find what works for you. Nclex wants you to do something as an RN, and most likely not to just “observe” or to call the physician until you’ve already exhausted what you would do as an RN first.

    One of my big pet peeves is when new nurses come to work like they just rolled out of bed!! Ugh! But then you see pics on Facebook where they get dressed up to go out on a date or out with friends! Really? Geez this is your profession! Look like a professional! Patients and their family members make judgments about your abilities to take care of patients, if you can't even take care of yourself! It's sloppy!

Also, maybe a video about charting and documentation - what is it, how it works, how to do it properly. I’ve heard that nurses spend more time on computers then with their patients? I’m still on the fence. Have been considering for quite some time. Hope you can make a video or two or please tag me on a video on the topic if it already exists. Thanks in advance 😊.
