Yes! "Pop" music refers to POPULAR music. Music doesn't have to be about politics, social injustice or any other cause. There are plenty of other ways to address these issues. The whole reason this music was popular was that it was just that....popular. It was "feel good" music in a time in which we needed it. JFK, RFK, MLK assassinations, Cuban Missile Crisis, Cold War were all things we as kids, were just trying to escape from for about 3 minutes at a time. We were trying to focus on enjoying life, first dates, high school dances and other things, in a time that was very dark. This music was medicine for our souls. We needed to "just be kids" for a few minutes at a time. @@jarichards99utube
Love thus song
At 75 yrs old now, this is still my favorite song. I love it. Heard when I came back from RVN in Dec "64. Laugh, laugh, I thought I'd die. Take that McNamara!
March 2024. I heard this when it came out. Totally depressing then and now too.
Somebody else remembers McNamara!
Ok love it Big Beau Brummels fan the American English group.
Glad you made it back, nomad. Well done.
The people today are souless. Our world is dying inside. Great music like this shows the happiness in people.
Remember - only some (minority...?) of people are actually souless (sociopaths). A Brilliant man once said in essence: the problem is that many of their LEADERS are "Evil & Wicked"

So glad to have grown up in the 50's and 60's. A musical explosion with great groups like this.
Only one favorite song from the 60's? I've narrowed my favorites list down to about 100. What wonderful times! I was 14 years old in 1964 and all of the songs increased my raging hormones. I was in love with every girl, everywhere. All of the songs from that era made me smile.
@@boomerguy9935 Boomerguy.... you're so right. I was in high school at 14 also. These songs just bring me back to Costa Mesa High and the school dances we had, and girlfriends we thought would last forever.
I love the way the harmonica keeps playing even when he takes it away from his mouth to sing backing vocals. Lip-syncing to pre-recorded tracks even back then.
Always loved this song. It even appeared on Flintstones episode in 1965.

One of the best bands of the 1960's. Great songs and great vocals. They kept pace with the best of the British invasion bands. Sal Valentino's voice was incredible
Totally agree.
Sal went on to form Stoneground, a great San Francisco band of the 70.s
They're a real discovery, late at least, at last!
When choosing a name with the record label, they landed on Beau Brummell, because it was a British and It put them right behind the Beatles on the record shelf.
@@philmetcalf9171 Yes, someone else had left a comment stating that the Beau Brummels were given that name because it was in the proximity of the Beatles! So that the group could NOT be overlooked.....I guess!
The hauntingly beautiful harmonic sounds sets the feelings on this song...

I love the circle of fifths in the chorus.

Funny thing! The first time I heard this it was on an episode of The Flintstones!😂
I was just becoming a teenager in 1965... and I loved this song......it's still wonderful in 2022. The way songs were written, back in the 50's/ 60's, even the 70's..... they told a Story. They were relatable. There's some gems out there, as of today, but not like this. The Walker Brothers are another Group that was underrated, .... as well as some other Groups/ Singers of the time.
Thank you for sharing this, it's got everything.... Harmony , great Vocals,
Talented musicians.... hits every mark.

@@jarichards99utube ... thank you so much for that kind reply... Yes, the music hasn't changed too much fir the better. .. and I absolutely will do that.... 🙂😊🎶🎵....Oh ! And the solid drum line on this song...! 👏🏻.. I pay particular attention to the drums... previously dated a few drummers .
@@texasstardust6010 I never knew that, really..... about the drums providing the " signature " sound. I am going to check it out right now! Thank you

There's so many Songs and Music that have such amazing " Drum Work " ... but, I've always paid particular attention to that, since I had always wanted to play the Drums... and later in Life, I would date a few Musicians ( drummers). A few songs to listen to: " More than a Feeling " by Boston ; " Hollywood Nights " by Bob Seger/Silver Bullet Band. Two of my favourites where you understand all that " Drum Work ".. of course, there's are MANY MANY MORE .. just a few suggestions. 🙂🥁🎶🎵
Makes me think of The Flintstones when I hear this. A great song !!
FUN FACT: The group's manager chose the name Beau Brummels so that at the record bins they would come right after The Beatles.
Another fun fact is that this song was featured on an episode of THE FLINTSTONES!☮️
@@debrarichardsjones8860 The Beau Brummelstones...lol
@@debrarichardsjones8860 yep, were they first rock group animated for a cartoon sang as themselves.
terrific group
HEY! I had ALWAYS thought that the Beau Brummels were British ( English.....to be exact ). So did a LOT of people..... come to find out. They came out when I was a young teenager (14). About a year into their popularity ( give or take a month )......it was announced that the Beau Brummels were NOT British ( English ) ...... but in fact they were American!!!! Specifically..... from San Francisco!!!!! What a shock that was to me!
THe performers of this era had personalities.....you can see it in their motions and facial expressions in the performance......
This represents, captures the spirit of the mid-sixity's more than anything else.
Harkens back to an era of black and white tv and a democratically elected congress
what copy and hope no one catches it or the i dont care attitude that was shaping the latter half of the 60s and well past it
YES !!!
I always remembered this song from when I was a kid. I loved the call and response with the vocals and guitar. I loved the drums. I loved the harmony. I loved the lyrics. I loved the whole damn thing !!!
PJ..You've got it, man!! Very excellent band!! They should've kept rhythm guitarist/ harmonica player Mulligan..Don't know what happened there!
Yepper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me Too! Plus The tearful harmonica is frosting on the cake. Others who performed without this is, like a Flat Tire.
@@pj61114 Right! Without the harmonica.....it would leave SO MUCH TO BE DESIRED!!!! I just would NOT want to hear, " Laugh Laugh " without it. The harmonica gives this song its " SOUL "!
So Glad I Was There! Never Will Be Times Or Music Like The Mid-Sixties Again !!! Gives Me Chills To Remember !
How beautiful that time was!
