Hello! Thanks so much for watching!
My name is Caroline Porter Thomas and now its time to:
    Test Your Knowledge
Now, to complete your daily personal study session you must, Test your knowledge for about 20-30 minutes with questions. Again? Yes, again. And I may even say AGAIN! I believe this statement to be 100% true: The probability of you passing the NCLEX examination and your nursing school exams is directly proportional to the number of questions you complete. For me, it wasn't until halfway through my first year of nursing school that I understood the power of reviewing NCLEX questions. But once I figured this out, I persistently answered question after question. By the time I graduated I completed over 5,000 questions. This sounds like a lot, but if you consistently answer questions, it will not significantly lengthen your daily study time.
The difference between the initial review of NCLEX questions (step 2 Review) and this step is that you are now trying to apply what you have just read. The first questions you want to do are the same NCLEX questions you did to start your study session. You want to repeat these to make sure you understand the concepts that were presented before you move on. After you have done that, answer the study questions in your course book. Finally, practice NCLEX questions on a computer. Since the NCLEX exam is given on a computer, it is beneficial to acclimate yourself to this testing format.
When I first started nursing school, I was actually intimidated by questions presented on a computer. Initially, I had a difficult time reading on a computer and would print out everything possible so I didn't have to stare at the screen. Well, the only way to get used to answering questions on a computer is to do question after question. In just a short time you will notice how much easier it is to read and answer questions on screen. Most textbooks and NCLEX review books come with companion CDs that contain additional questions to complete on the computer.

I really love your ideas! I'm currently doing my pre-req's and I'm super excited and nervous about applying to nursing school. Do you think it would be wise to start reviewing the NCLEX books now? I was given a few review books last semester and I really love your idea about marking the right answer. Being a full time stay at home mom, and being 10 years older than the average college student I feel like I need all the advantages I can get.

Hey Caroline! Quick question-approx how many questions should you go though for this step? I know step two you said 15-20 mins, is it the same for this step or is there a "number of questions" I should try to shoot for? Thanks so much!

Your videos are great! I didn't understand something about the NCLEX question. The technique you showed where we answer the NCLEX questions before the unit begins, is that relevant to first year students too? Mean should I do that for anatomy and physiology? Also should I study everthing in a unit (that they show in the syllabus) or only what the prof mentions in class? Because I have seen the syllabus and work seems impossible in the time frame given?
    Thanks

This really is a great question!!
I would save the NCLEX questions until you start the nursing classes.
But yes, first year nursing students (if you are in a BSN program than your junior year) I would start reviewing NCLEX questions about a month prior to classes starting. But, first find out which classes you will be taking & then review NCLEX questions regarding that topic.
As for Anatomy & Physiology, I do have a program that I think will help a lot... the steps are different from the steps in this video, although the information in the program will help you a lot with your nursing classes.
You can find the program on my website: EmpoweRN.com on the tab: How to Study for A&P.
Just fyi, I set it to a pay what you want or can mode... you can pay all the way down to one penny & still get the program!
      I really hope this helps!!
Let me know if you need anything else!
      Much Love,
      - Caroline

Hi ! Will these tips work for lpn students? I am thinking about going attending lpn school , and It's only 15 months which would be a lot to take in , in a short amount of time. Is it even worth going to lpn school or should I just go straight for RN? Also can you post a link for a good NCLEX-PN book or should I just look at the NCLEX-RN to be even sharper ? Sorry for all the questions I just really want to be prepared and ready ahead of time. I really love your channel, personality and great vibe :) Thanks!!

Hi Caroline! Thank you so much for these videos! I am starting my first day of RN school tomorrow and I am beyond excited! I am so thankful that I ran across your videos before I have a chance to troubleshoot different study methods on my own! Would you mind emailing me the steps? jaymepreston@yahoo.com I was so wonderfully surprised to find that step 2 is reading NCLEX questions even before reading the chapters but it makes PERFECT sense! Can't wait to put your amazing tips to use! Thanks again!
