This video is everything! I had those same feelings during school and even after graduating. I felt like I wasn't smart enough. How am I supposed to retain all this info and apply it? What happens when someone realizes i dont know all the things i should know? What if I make a mistake? A million what ifs.....I am my worst critic. Even when I get positive feedback from my coworkers, I am so hard on myself. These feelings can be so overpowering if you don't put them in check! After being a nurse for 2 years and now transitioning into a new job role, I still feel a little insecure about my knowledge base and abilities. However, I TRY not to let those feelings get the best of me. Instead, I try to learn from them and use them to make me a better nurse. For starters, I have to remind myself that YES I DID IT.... I survived nursing school, passed boards and am a nurse! Then I realize that it's going to be okay...I can't possibly know it all (ever) and certainly not overnight. It takes time and I have to give myself credit for how far Ive come and just continue to keep myself open to learning and growing as a nurse. Love love love your videos! I wish I would have found them sooner. Thank you!

Thanks for the video! It's nice to hear that someone felt this way as a new nurse. My mom, who has been a nurse for 20+ years, said she didn't feel like a "real nurse" for at least a year on the job, but I've never heard from someone who felt inadequate at clinicals like I did. Thanks again!

Thank you sooooo much for this video. It was really inspiring. I just started working on a med surg floor three weeks ago and I feel so overwhelmed sometimes and really feel like I don't know anything. But your video made me breath easy and makes me know that I am not alone and I can get through this!!! I can't wait to say I have been a nurse for 5 years :)

Thank you for this video! That letter could be from me. Your information was MUCH needed for me and reading the others comments was great help. I have less than 80 days until pinning and feel like I can't do it sometimes (a lot). Although I am in our Nursing Honor Society and Dean's list and usually do fine on tests, I feel it is so much information and I have forgotten so much. But mostly, I feel like an idiot in clinicals. Time managment is very difficult for me and really hard to believe I can safely manage care for 5 med surg patients. I am so nervous doing skills and my mind will STOP for seconds at a time when trying to remember things. Oh gracious me, I hope I can do this!!! I will ho check out your books. You are an angel :)

Thank you so much for this video. I am half way done with nursing school but have the option of taking my NCLEX to become a LPN. I started to talk myself out of it because I don't feel prepared. It's nice to know that all nurses start off feeling this way.

I so feel this way, Caroline! I am in my third year of my BScN and next month I start my clinical placement on an internal medicine unit. I am nervous to say the least.. and comparing myself to my peers who are going to be in my group is freaking me out even more. I totally feel like I don't know enough, medications are my biggest worry. I just watched your video on calcium channel blockers and its already helped me understand even more. I definitely plan on going through the rest of your medication and patho videos before I start my new rotation. Thanks so much! xox

I read a sample of your book and just have decided to purchase a copy via Amazon kindle. I have a small child 1 1/2 and im sure I'm going to have to wait awhile until she gets a little older but I want to be on the right track, but your videos anda great deed of help,so thank you,

I have anxiety so this is extra difficult for me, I can't sleep I'm a mess lol

      Hi Arely!!
It is so nice to hear from you!!
Honestly you do not need to worry about asking for help or questions!
Nursing School & the NCLEX teaches you how to be safe.... it does not teach you how to be a nurse..
You are starting from scratch and you will have a lot of questions and need a lot of help.
I still ask questions all the time and I have been a nurse for 7 years.
I don't care if anyone gives me a weird look or things I'm dumb... I know better & I just ignore their comment or look.
Here are a lot more videos to hopefully help you out though :D

My goal is to move to south Florida in a few years as well! Just wish these NY hospitals were more gracious at giving new grad RNs a chance. I too felt so nervous during clinical rotations in nursing school and I am soooo petrified about not being knowledgeable enough as a new nurse to adequately fulfill my job as a nurse. That's why I look at all this videos! LOL.

    • @empowern
      @empowern 10 лет назад +1

      Hi Tahira!
I think that NY must be one of the hardest places for New Grads... because I get a lot of emails from New Grads in that area. It is much easier in places like FL, for sure.... not to say it is super easy. Just much easier than NY.
And, yes, nursing school teaches you to critically think & pass the NCLEX.... that's about it!!
I too was incredibly scared & did not feel even slightly confident for about 8 months....
I do have to say though, that nursing is a job that gets so much easier with time!!!
So just do your best to push through this uncomfortable time!!
Let me know if you need anything else!!
      Much Love,
      - Caroline

Hello my name is shanice and I am a high school graduate starting college this fall and second guessing if nursing is the right thing for me. since I've been little I've always wanted to be a nurse but as I did research people were making it seem as if it were very tough and made them give up, I wasn't always the brightest student not doubting myself or anything I just think this would be a hard occupation for me , and I was just wondering if you would email me on your journey or how you made it through college studying nursing. shanice ritchie

We are aware a house built with Bricks or Sticks (Timber or Bamboo) all support the strength and beauty. Saying "Do I Know Enough to be a Nurse" It makes me feel Educated as a Nurse is secondary, practically involved stands firstly. But when it comes to selection Certified stands first and having only practical experienced gets disqualified. (to make matters worse the mental disturbance I get, live or die a shameless thought can't be fought.)

Practice conflict resolution scenarios in your mind now & before your interview. For example: How have or would you respond if____ (something wrong). Imagine a story in your mind showing the following process: You saw something wrong, you thought about what the best response would be, you took action and then reassessed the response. Always share stories that show you are thoughtful, kind and methodical about your actions. I hope this helps!!
