I used to use my phone professionally back in the day, and the clients would always get upset that I didn't have a professional setup (despite the professional looking results). You are right, perception of professionalism goes a long ways. If you are going to use your phone you need an awesome portfolio to back you up
Great video man, thanks for the review.
The best video on this topic, by far. Exactly what I was looking for, thank you for the detailed play-by-play!
By FAR the MOST informative and inspiring content creator that I have had the pleasure to just STUMBLE upon thus far!!! ......and I have been at this for well over a decade......Great job Mr. Brandon
This video was so helpful. Thank you
Cool to see you on this channel! : )
I'm not even into videography (I mostly do landscape and nature photography), but you earned a sub, man. Excellent video!!
I am excited about this phone, and looking forward to watching some of your other videos for videography tips.
What a great review 👌👏
Excellent review and comparisons! Well done.
Well done! You answered everything I wanted to know. You are an A+ communicator!
This is the first time I've seen one of your videos and what a fantastic and informative video it was. I learned so much, thank you. I'm now a subscriber.
I loved my beastgrip. I backed it when they first dropped on kickstarter. Love seeing someone geeking out on it too
love my Beastgrip too!
You have explained to me everything I needed to know, outstanding video
Great video, thanks for uploading :)
Great review bro!!! The 14 Pro looks great!
I use the Small Rig sometimes. It's just a cage and a handle. Well, a lens mount too. Thanks for the great video. You answered all my questions. Oh yeah, I just subscribed.
Love it man
First time I’ve seen a video of yours. It was super-high quality and really stands out.
True.
yep, just sub
Excellent info!!
Brilliant video as ever Brandon. @4:00 to @4.40 is genius 😂😂😂
Great video man !!
Great review!
Very dope indepth video and very helpful with the footsge fpr campsrisons snd brief deep dives, very helpful for people like myself who sre just looking to begin their journey shoiting vstious types of videos🙏
Love this. Especially that it validates the "craziness" I've done as well with my 14 pro, Beastgrip, Kenko lenses, filters, you name it. One question: How were you able to link the monitor to the phone and the microphone as well? I have the Dji mic and want to have a monitor and use the mic receiver plugged into the phone as well. The only work around I see is to use an IOS device as my monitor and use a peer to peer wifi connection through Filmic Pro Remote. Any guidance here would be appreciated!
Amazing ! Thank you !
Definitely planning on real estate videos with this phone. The professional perception thing may be an issue, but the truth is, an iPhone can get better videos than my 7 year old flagship DSLR with a 28mm lens. Might look cooler, but it just doesn’t deliver the quality expected anymore.
I’m thinking that the perception problem can be slightly bridged by branding yourself. I’m going to print business decals to put on all my gear and hold my head up high because I know that the final product will be good.
Great seeing you at vidsummit
Excellent & Amazing Video Braw ❤
Very useful thanks x
Thank you for these wonderful content Brandon. Just want to ask you, the phone you did the test was and iPhone Pro or iPhone Pro Max...??
perfect assessment of where the iPhone sits in the world of filmmaking. Thank you
Brandon, you legend!!! Really honest appraisal of the iPhone's place in the filmmakers' kit bag. Love your style, and such helpful comments. As others have already confirmed, the perception from clients may deter some from using the iPhone (or other smartphones) for corporate film production. Just gotta be sure the results match up!! I'vew subscribed and sharing your link.😎
Thanks for the excellent video. You didn’t mention the screw in lens you used on the iPhone. Which one is it?
Also: is it necessary to add an extra monitor to your iPhone rig when you already have the iPhone screen to monitor the video?
Does Wirestock make you get releases for any of the video you upload?
Thanks.
Great Video as Always. I would forget Action mode! As you said it crops in and only Shoots in 2.8K and you don't need it with the Results in Normal Video mode as good or better.
Brandom thanks for this good review. I just discovered your channel, do you have any video about how to assemble that hardware/gear setting gimbal, microphone, etc?
Excellent video, been looking for one exactly like this... I'm happy with upgrading to one $1000 device as a posed to something much more expensive, especially for my use cases
super helpful!!!!
Very nice video. Thank you for sharing.
Great video!!!
Very helpful comparison! i wish you would do a separate video on the way you rigged it. I will be using my iPhone 14 Pro to shoot interior interviews and wonder if I need to add a filter. And if so, what kind? (I'm relatively new to this)
Excellent Video. 🙏🏾
it’s important to note that Cinematic mode was limited to 1080p on the 13 Pro Series, & is now in 4k on the 14 Pro Series
My boy goin’ nuts on this rig. 😂
Great Video keep up the good work…
Thank you! 👍🏻
Yup I agree it's not going to replace the big cameras but it's not a bad emergency back up for it's price just incase you really need something to shoot with and you forgot it on the way to your trip.
Very well said...
Can you do a video on how set up the rig with the phone?
Did you have any issues with your external mic on iPhone 14pro? I can’t get my lavaliere and shotgun mic pic up sound? Thoughts? Nice video by the way.
Great review bro!!! The 14 Pro looks great! I haven’t jumped over to it yet because my 13 Pro Max is still serving me well. I also used it to get ProRes footage for a documentary project. So it’s definitely useable for pro work but it really depends on the “how” and the “why”.
How do you connect the monitor to the iphone?
You are really freaking good
What was the Lens you used on the iPhone rig?
I have a noise when I Putting my ear to the rear lenses on this phone when I am recording video. is it normal?
Brilliant video. I just got my iPhone 14 and I'm loving it. I also have a DSLR (Nikon D850) but I'm having more fun playing with the iPhone lol
hello mate. if i record 4K @ 60fps on the iphone pro max. how much space will it take to record 1 full hour straight. im gonna use it for basketball just wonderin if it can replace go pro on that aspect. looking at 256G iphone pro max. thanks alot
What GB phone size should you get and you got the pro or the max?
My 4.4 min pro-res video size was 25.67 gb my sony a1 takes a lot less space 😅
my you could help to answer a question for me. I've been researching but haven't found an answer yet. I've found that when filming in the regular video - filming on 4k 24fps or 30fps, seems to be more glitchy than 1080 60fps. any idea why this is?
Hello Brandon.! For video purposes, did you have a chance to also try the iphone 14 pro Max and, if so, did you notice any aspect on video making where 14 pro Max is better (or different) than the 14 pro, or the results are just the same?
If I don't want to use my iPhone as a camera what budget friendly entry level pro camera would you recommend thank you im kinda having iphone ulmmakung fatigue feel like i.am having my doubts I prefer a more portable compact camera whats up with Red entry level cameras thank you
Wirestock. Maybe I’ll try it out.
Thank you for bringing up perception. While for personal projects, what you're shooting matters a lot less, it's so annoying seeing other RUclipsrs with REDs, saying "Your gear doesn't matter!!!". Which while true is a sense, is also very much not true for a lot of professional work.
Well that is because a lot of tech tubers don't really understand the true depth of the field.
I mean if Apple made a guitar they would say the kind of string or pick does not matter. Well to the guitar player it does. Same with the sound system they are using.
Dude you’re such a good kid
hi was this IPHONE 14 PRO MAX ?
Thx, 👍
Fantastic "Review". I had so much fun watching you!
I currently have the 13 pro max and an unboxing video of it on my channel, I have it in white. I think ima sit this one out and upgrade next year and I want the black one!!
Same I have the 13 Pro Max and it’s beast especially in battery life. The 14’s look cool but I think I’ll wait for next years.
It may not be a replacement for the pros but it is for us regular folks and entrepreneurs who are getting into content to be able to create almost as good content as y’all. I started out with a canon m50 to create content and thought I would upgrade at some point and this camera is better than that one and I decided that I didn’t want to dive that deep into video anyways and the iPhone makes my work flow a lot faster.
Yep, nailed it. I want to get into doing some of this video stuff. I’m still rockin an iPhone 7. About to upgrade to either a 13 or 14. Once I get the phone, I’ll install Lumafusion on the phone, to edit. Full editor in your pocket. Pretty sweet. If I see I need more, I’ll get an IPad Air and edit with Lumafusion, on that. But for now, this will be good enough.
Tell me please? as a specialist, for professional quality photos and videos, well, for everything, which is better S22 ultra or iPhone 13.14? thanks in advance..
bro was jogging with airpods in...lucky cause my ears would never allow that lol dope video man I need to shoot videos more so I can get better but just for casual uses
Interesting assessment! I'm considering buying an iphone just for the camera .
@@romdunn3022 Why did you find it a mistake?
Dude. Holy crap what's up man!!
We just need FILMIC PRO and MOMENT apps use the apple cinematic depth of field algorithm in their apps so we have all the benefits of the apps like LUTs etc + the cinematic mode
Why is 24fps better than 30fps for cinematic mode?
Wirestock hum, only thing that worries me is do they verify the person submitting the footage? In the past, the stock agencies didn't verify the source of the footage and we lost thousands in revenue. We've had pirates zoom in past the logo and submit it as their content. Took months to resolve with the stock agencies. This will make it much easier for pirates IF there is no verification. I don't even think you need to submit an ID or bank account info to get paid, just a Paypal account. If you shoot something and post it on social, logo right down the middle of it to protect your work. Great video Brandon, answered a lot of my questions about the iPhone 14 pro I have coming. Definitely a place for it in my camera bag. I calculated 1.4 hrs to fill up 1TB at 4K 30P Pro Res. Ouch.
Nice Review Sir! You looks like my idol Kobe Bryant!
Sweet lord phones these days are crazy!!
This looks better than my iPhone 8 for sure
I love the use of you’re back lighting
Great review BW
And thanks mr editor for all you did
A lot of work went in to this
Well done boys
The cut-out in cinematic mode is weird, idk why you said it's amazing
Im a professional photographer in Brasil and I buy the 14 pro max 1tb to produce more content, making ofs etc. I think its the best compact camera nowadays, versatile and its a computer... that make calls. The perception factor in my case is subjective, cause in Br the Pro series are a huge investment and everybody knows that, and, I'll carry on my Nikon D4 and all the big lenses to show off anyway lol
4:10 😂😂😂 brah :D i'll definitely try it on my dji rs2 just for fun 😅
Who is the editor in this video?
Ugh u have a good point😢
You need to try the beast-grip Depth of field lens adapter.
I have it but couldn’t get it to work with the iPhone 14 in time for the video.
@@bwashmedia there is a lens adaptor you have to buy for $15 , beastgrip posted the adaptor
I realised the Iphone 14 is not the right camera to capture long scenic drives during our road trip. the memory of the phone was filled in less than an hour. the file sizes are just crazy in 4K pro res.
0:35 active mode 😮❤
The ProRes files are massive. Not fun to send over via lightning port. Will wait to upgrade once USB-C gets rolled out (maybe next year with the EU's reqs).
You can airdrop to your Mac which is much faster than usb c.
@@PolkLC c’mon man 🤔 really? It isn’t. And even then you have to only airdrop a few at a time
dont hope for usbc😂😂 they not gonna make
@@kimsanyt Yeah they will. Take a look at the iPads lol... The law in the EU, which has already passed, requires them to have USB-C by Fall 2024.
@@InventiveImagery you can air drop like 20 at a time takes about 30/40 sec
Please make a camera review for Samsung s22 ultra
04:07 I am crying hahahaha
love the video your music link is broken
Beast grip is made by a wonderful powerful video shooting software in iOS called BeastCam as a filmographies that is the best 1.99 I’ve spent lol on a phone it makes it mimic any of my canon mirrorless settings 😂😊
Screw the phone I love how your rocking the most expensive gym clothes ever made.
Real fun, but potentially expensive video 😡
😃Thank you for making it 😃
It still annt the Nikon Z7 or Z9
😱😱😱😱
Idk in my opinion the phone always has a "phone look" to the image. Idk what it is but there is something that just always stands out when a video is shot on a phone that feels like it's obvious that it was shot on a phone.
Tiny sensor equals tiny results. In other news. I like his hat.
As per the premium paid for phone Apple should make good camera phones. Low light , photo taken from distant , night . After photo is taken , if it’s zoomed then the photo start with noise
Need better sensors for camera Apple zoom is very less. Noise is more
Is taken on low light , night and from far. If we zoom after photo taken
it's a great camera to film, just like its predecessors. it's all abut the "Content". look @ the 2 movies "Unsane & Tangerine". both were shot on iPhone's. wanna know which iPhone's, go look it up. I don't believe were sitting in their chairs wondering what device was used or there's no Bokeh, I want my $ back. 🤣
What I don't understand is that every RUclipsr seems to compare the iPhone 14 Pro with a professional camera. IT IS NOT. Does it make nice pictures for a phone? Sure. but that does not mean it is a professional camera.
I think they know it's a good starting place for beginners for content creation. Being able to use a phone instead of buying a kit lowers the barrier of entry for content creation that requires a videocamera.
Cmon Brandon…
Wait im confused. "Only cinematic at 30fps. It now shoots cinematic at 24fps". I thought higher fps is better.
some say that the 24fps is more like a movie. this comes from the film days... still our eyes accustomed to this in almost every cinema in the past. i you think about 180 degree rule, you can achieve brighter picture with 1/48 shutter speed compared to 1/60 sec. so there are a few benefits for 24 fps overall. for sports event where the ball / car is too fast, thats not always enough. there you will need 60 fps.
You Don't have to use dslr
