The 1989 original made a huge impact on me as a nine year old, as a superhero fan, and as a movie viewer. It was probably the first “grown-up“ movie I ever saw. 30+ years later, it is still one of my favorites.

films - they haven’t been able to capture the essence of Gotham City ever since.

I had all of those McDonalds toys back when this movie released! Saw it in theaters, it was crazy back then when we were getting our first tastes of comic book movies. Superman was amazing, but the first 2 Batman movies were the gold standard!!! Absolutely amazing! And then summer of Batman forever happened amd it blew the last 2 out of the water with merchandising, and tie ins, everyone jumped on that movie back then! Random candy and toys, and just everything Batman! It was like the Jurassic Park summer 2 years before Forever... every 3 songs on any radio station was the Seal song Kiss from a Rose, even on the metal/alternative music stations. I can still hear it now. Lmfao! The 90s were wild!

I was only 6, but I remember the whole experience of getting ready for the movies at home, during which my cousins were trying to scare me by telling me that the dad from The Shining was the Joker. Even though I hadn't seen The Shining, I still knew about it, and Nicholson, so I was a little nervous. Walking out, all of us loved the movie. When the VHS came out, we wore that tape out. Still holds up terrifically for me.

When Forever and Batman and Robin came out, I didn't like them at all. I gave Batman 89 so much crap for years. Having read the original script, and being a huge Nightwing/Robin fan, I love that original script. I watched it a couple years ago and I absolutely hated it. I always wished they would’ve made it as Sam Hamm originally wrote it, I thought it would’ve made for a better movie than what I’d seen. Just finished it last night and I have no idea why I hated that movie so much. Is it the best Batman movie in my opinion? No. But it is a good Batman movie, both in script and final product.
Honestly, id love to have seen the Nightwing Spin-Off movie that was you going to Star Chris O’Donnell, it would’ve been interesting I think

The problem with Batman 4 for me was that there was absolutely no chemistry between the three good heroes. They don't work at all, and not just when Robin does his jealousy thing because of Poison Ivy. The whole dialogs between them and all dialogs between them and Batgirl are just stupid and not developed. "Oh you are now also a hero? ...Ok" - not even adressing once that it might be dangerous for her. Nobody cared for her safety, which is a stupid move for a relative of their beloved butler.
