He loved the batnipples, there isn't a single other Batman director that I could imagine even thinking of something like that hahaha. I need to watch it again, it still looks cooler than people give it credit for. The use of color and lighting was great. Also, RIP Joel.
The fans have spoken. We want comics to get with the times. Cis white males have always had the lead roles. It's time for a real version of Wolverine like the comics have it drawn and written... a female version or at least a Trans version. Rumor has it Elliot Page is playing a live action Wolverine and it is going to be amazing. DC is bringing Tim Drake Robin to the big screen. Rumor there is also Elliot Page playing Robin and finally we will see what DC fans like myself have wanted to see, a Batman and Robin romantic relationship as it has always been hinted in the comics and even back with Adam West. What's so wrong with that?
It was the studio execs at Warner Brothers (who also owns DC Comics, the publishers of Batman comic books), that demanded that the Batman film series become lighter and more family friendly in tone, to be more mainstream, now opposed to director Tim Burton's dark and serious approach, which was even more so with the second film in 1992's Batman Returns, as parents criticized its PG-13 rating due to the darker tone and violence, while at the same time trying to promote McDonald's happy meals and toys to kids, which McDonald's dropped the whole happy meal campaign altogether upon parents' backlash. This made Warner execs to change up the direction of the Batman film series with Burton later departing (he stayed on as producer only for Batman Forever) and Joel Schumacher taking over as director with the next two films, Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Michael Keaton turned down a huge paycheck to play the character again and was not fond with the direction that Schumacher was going with, and decided to leave after a few meetings with Schumacher. We know what became of the rest of the former Batman film series, it slowly went downhill, with the changes shown in Batman Forever (which has its good and bad moments, but its at least still good to watch), but it got much worse with how Batman and Robin ended up being, pure silly camp, going back to the 1960s Batman TV series (or even worse maybe). When the original 1989 film by Burton went back to the character's dark and serious era, finally shedding off the 1960s Batman TV show's camp vibe as well to the fans and general audience, and like how the comic books had done since the 1970s onward, Batman & Robin brought back the bad history of the character's camp era again which killed that Batman film series completely. Schumacher has accepted the blame over these many years and has apologized about B&R ended up being, but blame must go to the bosses at Warner Brothers for interfering in the first place.

I truly can't see how B&R is a "so bad it's good" movie. It's clear they had this cheesy, campy vision from the beginning and they stuck with it. This universe is crazy, but everything is glued together by a good set and costume design. The diamond thing is actually clever. Diamonds are nicknamed “ice” by gangsters because an easy way to tell if a diamond is fake is by touching it to your lip. I'm a big fan of the Schumacher movies, and it always bums me out to know that a huge majority of people completely disregard them due to their surreal and campy nature. I believe we need more Batman media like this, the closest we got was the brave & the bold cartoon, and those batman 1966 throwback movies.
In my opinion, 99 % of the audience, who watched this / walked out on it / are still using Batman and Robin as a legitimate reason, why the character can't be funny were and are idiots.
Holy shit. I've lived to see the day when Joblo recognizes Jesse Ventura in a scene, but not Ralf Moeller, arguably the second best Conan The Barbarian after Arnold. Damn, so disappointed. Not to mention he currently plays Poseidon in the BMW commercials, opposite Arnold as Zeus.
I still love this movie. Mostly because it's so hilarious in it's tone. The fireside chats between Bruce and Alfred are awesome. Plus, the physical sets are gorgeous to look at. No CGI backdrops, mostly.
I agree with you 100%. The sets and practical effects were cool. Nowadays it's all CGI, it's all done in post instead of being done on set while being filmed. It creates a totally different atmosphere. That was one of the great things about Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy as well. The practical effects were incredible. I'd rather watch a shitty movie with practical effects than a decent movie with a shit ton of CGI.
In addition to Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy and Bane, there's even a fourth lessor known supervillain this movie somehow managed to ruin. Jason Woodrue, aka the Floronic Man. Poor John Glover, you could've been somebody!😄
Mr. Freeze " I Hope Mr. Bane Can Swim " Bane jumps through hole in wall to river below and says this " AH AH AH AH AH AH AH AH " cracks me up everytime
I am okay with the campy tone, but there are several problems with the movie. 1. Tonal issues between being an homage to the 60s show and being a continuation of the 90s series. Mr. Freeze’s backstory about his wife’s disease conflicts with his portrayal being like the 60s Mr. Freeze. The campy parts conflict with the Alfred plot. 2. George Clooney is a bad Batman. He doesn’t act any different when he’s Bruce Wayne and Batman. Adam West did have a slight performance change between the two roles, even though it wasn’t as much as Michael Keaton or Val Kilmer. 3. Robin is annoying. He’s more annoying than in Batman Forever, where he was more tolerable and had an arc that this movie threw away. 4. The fight scenes are bad and wirework is very obvious.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I liked George Clooney as Wayne/Batman a hell of a lot more than I did Val Kilmer’s. Not a great movie by any standard, but Clooney’s Batman I did enjoy. Way too many puns and bad jokes though even for me. Val was legendary in that movie Top Secret though. So funny.
I don't think it was entirely Schumacher's fault, he made exactly what the studio told him to make, They wanted a campy childrens toy commercial more in the style of the 1966 series, they said it needs to be "toyetic" and to have a lot of cool weapons, Batsuites and vehicles.
Joel Shumacher got far more hate for this movie than he rightfully deserved. As a homage to the Adam West series in the style of Rocky Horror camp this movie would've worked perfectly as a stand alone film. Problem was WB and Shumacher misread their audience established by the original Burton films. They weren't the older adults who grew up with the 60's series, but were the younger generation that was introduced to Frank Miller's darker and more grounded graphic novels. But they wanted to sell their Happy Meal toys and decided to make the drastic tonal shift. It should've been treated as an offshoot, like the Lego Batman movies, and not a continuation of the main franchise.
The fact that it's hard to tell where the movie ends and where the jokes begin (For a moment I thought the "red sticky goo phase" joke was part of the original film) tells you all you need to know about this mess.
Very weird to me that you’d dump on this movie for not understanding the Batman characters and mythos, then go on to also rip it for Bane being powered by Venom. That is one of a number of things that are just directly from the comics.
The 4K Blu-ray is incredible on this film you wouldn't know it was made 25 years ago, about the film itself yeah its corny and Clooney is basically playing dress-up as Batman but Arnold is having a blast you can tell.
Oh dear God this film. Thanks Warner Brothers for killing your own franchise for nearly a decade. Thankfully Joel Schumacher still made good films after this & George Clooney’s film career didn’t get tanked; he’s had the biggest laugh on the foolishness of the film
I can't believe we're into the sixth seventh live action version of Batman after 40s serials, 60s TV show, Burton, Schumacher, Nolan, Snyder and now Reese.
I love this movie. As a young kid when it came out it was perfect. I never thought anything was wrong with this movie when people started trashing it online, and I still don't. Nostalgia overload. I had the toys, i was this Robin for Halloween that year and it had JIM CAREY! That's all I needed. And it's still awesome. This movie rocks.
@@seekforjannah2432I think it depends how u look at it. If u view it as the dark and gritty Batman, yes it’s terrible. If u view it as the Adam west movie and show, it’s a better remix of it
This was an overcorrection when Batman Returns wasn’t a huge hit. Batman Forever was already an overcorrection and this took that to the next level. But in the 90s, that’s what people wanted. Pierce Brosnan’s 13 year old boy one liners in every PG-13 movie. It got really stupid really fast. I was so relieved when Daniel Craig showed up in 2006 and Batman got back on track the year before. At least try to suspend my disbelief.
@@biguy617 i am. I get it's fun to hate a movie because it's not the version you wanted. but there is a large swath of batman everyone always dismisses. and it's a delightful world. The brave and the Bold series captured it more often. But batman and robin pushed for that lighter batman. people compare it to the west batman but that's limited exposure. for instance batman had a chemical that allowed him to breathe underwater like a fish. for no reason. just had it
@@FAlock01 It was due to the comic code authority why the silver age of Batman was so light hearted and campy. Had the writers not returned Batman to his darker tone, the character would have been cancelled.
@@jsutton0010 I understand that and won't argue with it. however, the reason I love this movie is because of that zaniness, and weirdness of over the top characters. and devilish fun. Batman can work in a variety of mediums but since this movie it's all been in grey in the films I mean and the stories have been mostly the same and boring.
Considering that the director is a flamboyant homosexual, it makes sense to me why the movie turned out the way it did. Sure it's super silly, but it's completely marketed and made for children, so you can't say that it missed the mark; countless movies made these days can't even do that, studios insist on interfering and just end up crapping out unfocused turds like Batman v Superman. So props to Schumacher for sticking to his guns and delivering consistency.
@6:42-6:52 Hey you ain't right, man!! Batman VS TMNT was an awesome crossover in both comic books and in movie format. The stories of these five icons teaming up is different, depending on if you have actually read the damn comic books. But it was still amazing to see Batman and the Ninja Turtles interact with each and stopping the Shredder and Ra's Al-Ghul.
I forgot about Bane in this lame movie. He looks like the creatures in "The Beastmaster". I really liked the TV show "Batman". This was an unsuccessful attempt to capture the tongue-in-cheek campiness. While Alicia did look hot in her Batgirl costume, she was no Julie Newmar as Catwoman.
When Batman Forever came out, I was still young enough to like anything that had superheroes and flashing lights. Somewhere between that movie and this one, I got old enough to develop... taste, I guess? I'm not convinced that was a good thing. Young & Dumb > Old & Cynical
Y'know, if this movie was just slightly better or made slightly more money or didn't get Clooney clowned quite as hard, we'd have gotten the final installment of the Schumacher trilogy instead of the Nolan reboot. Yup. Schumacher is partially albeit unintentionally responsible for the Dark Knight. I assume the Schumacherverse would've ended with Bruce Wayne waking up in a cold sweat only to realize that it was aaaaaaall a dream.
This movie was teerrible. Batman Forever was great, If Schumacer had kept the same tone as forever , and only Arnold as the villain, it coulve been cool
Every single time its you doing the reviews its extremely low volume . I watch this playlists when im trying to sleep. So as soon as your video is over and it goes to next it becomes super loud. Standardize the sound throughout.
Bat nipples, Bat card, endless ice puns plus plenty of other corny dialogue. Despite what some people try to say, this movie was awful then and possibly more awful now. It's a modern miracle that this film franchise only stayed dead for 8 years.
The only one whose career never recovered, unfortunately, is Alicia Silverstone, the one who had the last to do with this abomination. It's too bad, too. She deserved better.
For everyone who gripes about all Batman movies being dark and gritty and serious... they always complain about Schumacher's flicks, which are silly and lighthearted and stupid.
I never understood how they looked at what they wanted to make vs what they made as what the movie made. So, you make 150M after costs yet you wanted 300m . So you look at it as 150m lost and not 150m made. They stopped making movies witch is 0$ vs 700m they would have made vs only 225m they made 10 years later.
Is the first and only time I can walk you say I walked out of movie theater and couldn't explain what the hell I just watched. The major lift down after success of Batman Forever
What is the deal with your volume leveling in this video? I went from cranking the volume knob to hear at all to having my eardrums blown out for comedic effect at the 2:58 mark and back again. Also, keep up the great videos!
6:09 FWIW - this movie made my life... interesting.... as I was going through boot camp in the U.S. Army. The drill sergeants had me shout lines frequently like "Ice to see you," "Cool party," and "The name is Freeze, learn it well..." Sigh. Too many one-liners for one movie.
I have a soft spot for Batman Forever. I thought that Val Kilmer's behavior on The Island of Dr. Moreau was the reason why he wasn't brought back to the old Batman franchise. Go figure.
But, Batman and Robin hasn't aged well at all. I actually liked this movie back in high school. But, once you watch this movie with a more mature mind, you have no choice but to realize that this movie is pure crap! 💩

Me: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm a big fan of the Schumacher movies, and it always bums me out to know that a huge majority of people completely disregard them due to their surreal and campy nature.
Ralf also had a nice role in Gladiator.
@@ryanbunce3684 my man!
Moeller was an awesome villain in Best of the Best 2!
I hope Uma gets her spotlight as poison ivy once again, she was incredible.
I still love this movie. Mostly because it's so hilarious in it's tone. The fireside chats between Bruce and Alfred are awesome. Plus, the physical sets are gorgeous to look at. No CGI backdrops, mostly.
So what? Being Cgi doesn't make a bad movie.
That's the problem. It came from a serious series of Batman movies. If it originated from. Adam West, then it would've been ok
That BBD JOKE at 9:10 took me out lmaoooo you sir are great!
The "Bebe's Kids" joke is priceless. Yet, I'd buy it for a dollar.
In all fairness to the serial, Batman wasn't even ten years old yet as a character. The overhead projector bat signal though 😂😂😂
It’s amazing how over time this has gone from panned to guilty pleasure to a somewhat underrated fine wine of a film.
So funny.
Top secret is a masterpiece!
This video is brilliant. Truly, it’s a work of art. Bravo.
I still enjoy this film as much as I did when I first watched it. Maybe even more.
Bane driving around Poison Ivy was the funniest part!
That Keenan and Kel Scarecrow bit took me out😹😹
I don't think it was entirely Schumacher's fault, he made exactly what the studio told him to make, They wanted a campy childrens toy commercial more in the style of the 1966 series, they said it needs to be "toyetic" and to have a lot of cool weapons, Batsuites and vehicles.
The original "Venom" storyline in the Legends of the Dark Knight comics was excellent. (no Bane, but lays the ground work)
Joel Shumacher got far more hate for this movie than he rightfully deserved.
I actually enjoyed this movie even though it is cheesy.
A very underrated movie!
12:26 We almost had Scarecrow spendin most his life
livin' in the gangsta's paradise
Pat Hingle and Michael Gough were G**DAMN treasures
They were there for the 💰 nothing else but it's tragic they should had stopped by telling the studios just say enough.
Worth the wait, another instant classic jessie
"Batman & Robin: Awfully Awful movies."
There, I fixed the title for you. 😆
😂❤😂❤
I had to come back for the R.kelly jokes at the end. PURE COMEDY!
The Bruce/Alfred scenes were the only part of this film that had heart and thus I have blanked every other moment out.
The fact that it's hard to tell where the movie ends and where the jokes begin (For a moment I thought the "red sticky goo phase" joke was part of the original film) tells you all you need to know about this mess.
Well Schumaker wanted me and Forever to be dark as the Tim Burton ones but the studio forced him to do otherwise
Very weird to me that you’d dump on this movie for not understanding the Batman characters and mythos, then go on to also rip it for Bane being powered by Venom. That is one of a number of things that are just directly from the comics.
The 4K Blu-ray is incredible on this film you wouldn't know it was made 25 years ago, about the film itself yeah its corny and Clooney is basically playing dress-up as Batman but Arnold is having a blast you can tell.
as a kid i loved this but then i grew up and realized how bad this truly was hahaha. the bat nipples???? classic
GD, it's good to have you back Mr. Shade!
You definitely read my mind right here 9:12!
Y’all earned this thumbs up for that “Mr. Pees” shit lmao
This and The Dark Knight Rises are the only Batman films without Oscar nominations.
Oh dear God this film. Thanks Warner Brothers for killing your own franchise for nearly a decade. Thankfully Joel Schumacher still made good films after this & George Clooney’s film career didn’t get tanked; he’s had the biggest laugh on the foolishness of the film
16:45....OMG!!!! THANK YOU FOR FINALLY CALLING UMA OUT ON WHAT'S BEEN OBVIOUS THESE MANY YEARS!!!😘😘
I can't believe we're into the sixth seventh live action version of Batman after 40s serials, 60s TV show, Burton, Schumacher, Nolan, Snyder and now Reese.
Ninth
I love this movie. As a young kid when it came out it was perfect. I never thought anything was wrong with this movie when people started trashing it online, and I still don't. Nostalgia overload. I had the toys, i was this Robin for Halloween that year and it had JIM CAREY! That's all I needed. And it's still awesome. This movie rocks.
The movie was one piece of 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
@@seekforjannah2432I think it depends how u look at it.
Seeing if you could make your audio a little louder, I listen at work. Some channels can here fine but yours and some are a little low. Thanks.
I don't care what anyone says.... I love Batman & Robin!
this movie is probably my Biggest Guilty Pleasure!
This movie is great. A perfect send up to the silver age of comics. Love this movie.
Ha ha! Are you serious?!
The movie was 💩💩💩💩
Considering that the director is a flamboyant homosexual, it makes sense to me why the movie turned out the way it did.
R.Kelly is a terrible person but Gotham City is a great song
It is!
Great to see you back man!
Dinosaurs was an underrated show.
Not the mama! 😁
@6:42-6:52
Hey you ain't right, man!!
Some of these references are mind-blowing.
The video is great, really like your content. But why is the volume so low?
Uma Thurman’s sexiness is the only good thing about this movie. She’s soooooooooo hot in this
This movie was teerrible. Batman Forever was great, If Schumacer had kept the same tone as forever , and only Arnold as the villain, it coulve been cool
It's not Robin and Batman. If they did a series starring Robin lawyers would prevent Bruce Wayne from suiting up.
I miss the onomatopoeia splashing on screen! Ka-Pow! Splat! Blam! Kaboom! Someone should make that edit
Definitely the worst big budget Batman movie ever made so far.
Did anyone else get an ad for Little Caesar’s Bat-Calzone the second Alfred says “I’ll cancel the pizza”?
I have such a soft spot for this film, mostly because of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his Ice-Puns
Bane has always been powered by Venom in the comics.
Some men just want to watch the world freeze.
For everyone who gripes about all Batman movies being dark and gritty and serious... they always complain about Schumacher's flicks, which are silly and lighthearted and stupid.
19:45, when this scene played, I thought my DVD was glitching or broken. LOL!!! I seriously thought it did!
The good old days, take me back ...
Awfully good movies is perfect for ganja time….
10:18 Men where did you find this clip it looks like MST3K?
