Too bad the Kong suit was awful. Mind you, trying to do both in their original styles (Godzilla as a guy in a suit and Kong as a small puppet being animated by stop-motion) while having them fight would have been much, much harder, and I wouldn't expect them to do Gojira in stop-motion.
I can answer that. It was originally written as Frankenstein vs Godzilla. Thus, lightning fuels him. This sort of character replacement was done again in Godzilla versus the Sea Monster. It was supposed to be Kong.
The Toho cut of this film is aware of its absurdity and plays out more as a satire. It's a great giant monster mash and was intentionally made to look like a toy box coming to life.
I love the movie with its original score by Ifukube. It adds a sense of gravity that's not on the screen, especially the "Terror of Godzilla" track. The recut uses Universal Library music which is most unGodzilla. Criterion is releasing both versions in their upcoming set so, uh, that's a thing.
This is not a bad movie, it's a comedy. But the US version cut most of the comedy scenes and played it as a serious monster film. It'd be like if you took Airplane, cut most of the comedy, and tried to pass it off as a drama
I own a DVD of the Japanese version, and it's better than the U.S. version with all the English-language UN scenes and repeated Creature From the Black Lagoon music. It also has a more comedic tone.
Well, I at least got WHAT that Shakespeare quote was referring to in the movie - these incredible creatures that most people wouldn't have thought existed. I don't think they were trying to be artsy with it. It WAS sort of relevant to the theme of the movie if you think about it.
Robin - without this movie Toho would never have made another Godzilla film. The sequel to Godzilla flopped. This movie pulled in the big bucks. So I argue this movie did not degrade anything.
Fun fact: *Stegosaurus* lived during the *Late Jurassic* Period, about 150 million years ago. *Tyrannosaurus rex* lived during the *Late Cretaceous* Period, about 72 million years ago. Stegosaurus was extinct for 66 million years before Tyrannosaurus walked on Earth.
Originally it was going to be Godzilla vs Frankenstein, but the producers thought that movie would be silly, so they switched it with King Kong instead, and made Frankenstein conquers the world, Which I do not think you have Reviewed.
robin bailes No , they really couldn't . They did this AGAIN with Godzilla vs the Sea Monster, It was supposed to be a King Kong flick but Toho changed their minds and thought taking out Kong and pasting Godzilla over it would be more marketable . except they didn't change anything else, and Godzilla does a lot of kong like things ( like fawning over a girl). They just change nothing else about anything except its a new monster . so yes, the electricity thing with Kong and then this. copy paste, done
I read that it was Godzilla vs Frankenstein but it ended up Frankenstein conquers the world, and I did not know about Godzilla and the sea monster. I have that on VHS
0:44 - An academic... speaking off a cross between two dinosaurs 80 million yrs apart; the Stegosaur being extinct before T.Rex was about! We (people) are closer to T.Rex (time-wise), than T.Rex is to Stegosaurus!! :D
They should make a movie from the perspective of people feeding their families by cleaning up/rebuilding after Tokyo gets constantly levelled, maybe along the lines of that Tom Hardy movie where he spends the entire movie in his car on his phone daring the world to kill him.
Wickedly funny. When Godzilla is being transported out in the air, there is a building in the background that looks like one in downtown L.A. but I could be wrong.
Tip: Grab a Japanese Big G fan and have the film explained to You! I had luckily this experience and was astound what a cornucopia of Japanese inside jokes this is.
Watching US butchered edits is like not watching this movie at all but then again it's a gothic horror channel so being even a little bit dismissive towards the kaiju genre (more popular of the two nowadays) is like a tradition.
Yes a very bad film, and yet I have watched it several times. A good review of a bad movie. Rinoa super-genius gave a shout out and showed your review of deadly mantis.
It irrationally bothers me that you review the bastardized American versions of these movies. Bad dubbing, ruthless editing, pointless added footage…of course it’s terrible in this form.
The giant octopus was astonishing too... amazing in the movie.
An octopus that lives on land, yeah, pretty astonishing.
@@gregghill2059 it's skin was soaking wet so just came on the land not living on it
This film had the best Godzilla suit design of all the earlier Godzillas!
It's still one of my favorite movies.
Yep. I had that book when I was a kid. Very academic.
I always love King Kong vs Godzilla so much.
I read that dinosaur book when I was eight.
I can answer that. It was originally written as Frankenstein vs Godzilla. Thus, lightning fuels him. This sort of character replacement was done again in Godzilla versus the Sea Monster. It was supposed to be Kong.
He gets stronger because he was meant to be Frankenstein
It works for Gamera
Kong vs. Godzilla, if we're lucky both will die.
The Toho cut of this film is aware of its absurdity and plays out more as a satire. It's a great giant monster mash and was intentionally made to look like a toy box coming to life.
That definitely sums it up, though I still don't understand why such a large number of people see comedy as a bad thing.
Love this movie seen it in the the theater in 1963
I love the movie with its original score by Ifukube. It adds a sense of gravity that's not on the screen, especially the "Terror of Godzilla" track.
The recut uses Universal Library music which is most unGodzilla. Criterion is releasing both versions in their upcoming set so, uh, that's a thing.
The American Version of this movie had Music from The Creature From The Black Lagoon.
This is not a bad movie, it's a comedy. But the US version cut most of the comedy scenes and played it as a serious monster film. It'd be like if you took Airplane, cut most of the comedy, and tried to pass it off as a drama
Are you ready to rumble??!!! 🦎🐒
2:41 because Godzilla was originally gonna fight Frankenstein
I had that dinosaurs book when I was a kid
I own a DVD of the Japanese version, and it's better than the U.S. version with all the English-language UN scenes and repeated Creature From the Black Lagoon music. It also has a more comedic tone.
Yeah the Japanese cut is definitely superior. It's a satire that doesn't take itself seriously.
Well, I at least got WHAT that Shakespeare quote was referring to in the movie - these incredible creatures that most people wouldn't have thought existed. I don't think they were trying to be artsy with it. It WAS sort of relevant to the theme of the movie if you think about it.
"There Are More Things In Heaven And Earth, Horacio, Than Are Dreamt Of In Your Philosophy."
Hard to believe this was Godzillas third movie and Kong's second. I loved this as a kid but I was a stupid kid.
SoCal Drifter your still a stupid kid
Hard to believe this was the biggest money making Godzilla movie. Still it can kill 90 minutes.
More Godzilla!
Caleb East we are eyeing up Godzilla vs the Smog Monster.
Dark Corners Reviews Awesome! Actually thats my least favorite Godzilla movie so I'll understand if its a hate train.
I had that dinosaur book when I was a kid.
Me too!
I feel like this whole review could be for Batman v Superman and work just as well
To me this is One of the Greatest Movies Of All Time !
This is one of my more favorite Godzilla Movies
Please do all the Godzilla movies. That would be so awesome
The Moral Reform Chronicles I agree.
I remember I saw this in a movie theater matinee packed with little grammar school children. And for us it was great!!!! Lol!!!!!
Who else is here because of the kong vs Godzilla 2021 trailer
Godzilla VS. Kim Jung-Un: Japan vs. North Korea starring Dennis Rodman. Now that's the dream B monster movie I'd love to see.
Do Atragon that's a good one
That looks awesome! We'll check it out, thanks for the recommendation.
Atragon was the one with Manda in it.
I guess if electricity can make the Frankenstein monster stronger ... it can make King Kong stronger.
Why did they use the creature from the black lagoon theme for some fight scenes
Godzilla!
Leave this film alone
Talent Dance TV That’s it this is a Classic
Robin - without this movie Toho would never have made another Godzilla film. The sequel to Godzilla flopped. This movie pulled in the big bucks. So I argue this movie did not degrade anything.
And once again, they used the music from CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.
Dan D Doty Good Music is Good Music
Favorite Kong film
I loved this movie as a kid. Well except for the fact that King Kong beat Godzilla. It's still better than the CGI remake.
Looking forward to the rematch in 2020.
I wish to see the original Japanese version!
But this wasn't a B movie. Or is every movie that comes out of Japan a B movie now?
What an enjoyable bad movie that was watching king Kong fight godzilla is awesomeness
Originally it was going to be Godzilla vs Frankenstein, but the producers thought that movie would be silly, so they switched it with King Kong instead, and made Frankenstein conquers the world, Which I do not think you have Reviewed.
We have not reviewed that yet.
That does at least explain the electricity thing. Lazy bastards couldn't be bothered to re-write.
Yeah, and instead of Frankenstein fighting godzilla in the end of Frankenstein conquers the world he fights Baragon, and a giant octopus.
robin bailes No , they really couldn't . They need to remake this film
it's being done.
2COOLGHOULS looks great.
And then, I'll watch anime on Netflix on July 18th, 2017, okay?
And that'll be the brand new remake version of the brand new R rated chapter of Candyman, and it's called Candyman 4: Satan Wants You Die!
So what did you think of the new one?
Time to rebuild Tokyo Tower...again.
Wickedly funny. When Godzilla is being transported out in the air, there is a building in the background that looks like one in downtown L.A. but I could be wrong.

Let's see update fight of godzilla vs kong
Even as a kid I could never get over the hump that these Japanese monster fests were simply humans in a monster costume. It ruined it for me -
Actually they are monsters in monster costumes....
the Monster Club
I remember Vincent Price and John Carradine were in that one.
Watching US butchered edits is like not watching this movie at all but then again it's a gothic horror channel so being even a little bit dismissive towards the kaiju genre (more popular of the two nowadays) is like a tradition.
I remember being so pissed that Kong *spoiler* won. Ugh, I think Godzilla is still the best.
lone wolf it was a draw godzilla got buried under the avalanche that's why in the next film he comes out of the ground
Lone Wolf nobody won
King Kong Escapes
I made my sister take me to see this movie when I was 8 and I remember thinking than , gee that's a stupid movie
Yes a very bad film, and yet I have watched it several times. A good review of a bad movie.

Who cares what this English asshole thinks
Good god this movie was terrible, it was so one sided, hopefully legendary and Warner brothers would do a better job with Godzilla vs Kong.
jon ojar shut up
They didn't. They made Kong the Hero.
I had that dinosaur book when I was a kid
