Fun fact: Godzilla's blue color is actually based on real science. They even name it in this movie. Cherenkov radiation. When particles are so supercharged with energy that they move faster than light through a medium (Nothing can go faster than light in a vacuum. Mediums are fair game.) they produce an creepy blue glow. In fact most nuclear reactors glow with this same brilliant blue light.

@@Mandrak789 there are cracks in every godzilla design such as the white edge in all japanese godzilla dorsal plates and the legendary godzilla has cracked patterns so when godzilla is charging the atomic breath in japanese films the blue usually appears at the edge of the dorsal plate while legendary godzillas plates have a wavy pattern glow so mayve those parts are more transparent than the rest of Godzilla so that's why it glows...

I am glad that you acknowledged how the film was intended essentially as a satirical comedy. Since the American version removed a lot of the satire and replaced it with reporting scenes so dry they make the Atacama desert jealous, I think a lot of people have a harder time giving into the goofy nature. In fact, watching the Japanese version where before Godzilla and Kong even meet they are fighting for media coverage with people even betting on them despite the damage, comparing that to the sheer amount of similar things in crossover battles today is freaking hilarious. That also goes for comparing it to the rest of the Godzilla series. Only 3 movies in and the big Dinosaur was already parodying himself, which only shows that there was a method to their madness. It's almost like Toho was just like "Yeah, our nuclear allegory Dinosaur is now having a pro wrestling match with a giant alcoholic Monkey with a shock fetish and it's gonna end up being the highest grossing Godzilla movie ever what do you expect?". Does make it kinda ironic you chose to watch the English dub cuz it was funnier when in this case I would say it's the opposite for this movie.

Shin Godzilla is amazing. It's a classic People vs Godzilla scenario, but he changes and evolves in ways to protect against the human's attacks. It's interesting to see how they come up with ways to combat him every time he comes back in a new form. Oh also the fire-laser scene was really damn cool. It was also written by Hideaki Anno, the man who made Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I'd say the best Godzilla movies are Godzilla (1954), King Kong vs Godzilla (1962), Mothra vs Godzilla (1964), Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster (1964), Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974), The Return of Godzilla (1984), Godzilla vs Biollante (1989), Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 (1993), Godzilla vs Destoroyah (1995), Godzilla 2000 (1999), GMK (2001), Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002), Godzilla:Final Wars (2004), Shin Godzilla (2016), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs Kong (2021). The worst, I'd say are Godzilla's Revenge (1969), Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991), Godzilla (1998), Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017), Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (2018), and Godzilla: The Planet Eater (2019)

Funnily enough, not only was Kong more popular than Godzilla during this time, but so were Mothra and Rodan. The only reason why Toho went ahead with continuing with Godzilla sequels instead of more films featuring Kong, Mothra, or Rodan in the lead roles is simply because Godzilla was the cheapest one to bring to life as he didn't require rights negotiations with Universal nor did he require extensive wire work to bring him to life or to allow for flying sequences.

Soundtrack with Akira Ifukube's being amazing while the US version used random tracks that dont fit
    Voices: obviously the dubbing
Roars: as Steve said, Godzilla's roar in the end was cut out in the US version

This was the first ever Godzilla film I saw as a child. I'd heard of Godzilla, I was big into Jurassic Park and movie monsters so as a 4-5 year old I was all into it, but it wasn't easy to find any of the films or generally anything Godzilla-related in the UK, all I had for a long time was a vinyl GMK Godzilla figure that I got on a trip to America. I got this film for Christmas a few years later and I'll never forget the scene when he breaks out of the ice, it was like a right of passage getting to finally see him wreak havoc on film. A few years later the Guardian newspaper included a free copy of the original 1954 film which I still have, and I remember it gave me nightmares with how dark it was. Whenever I've gone on trips to America I've always tried to get as many Godzilla films as I can find, even if I could only watch them on a computer due to the disk regions being different in the UK. So what I guess I'm saying is I relate a lot to you as a UK Godzilla fan, although I couldn't get enough of this film as a kid.
