I second this!!! That would be VERY helpful! Although I’m wondering if putting an enzyme cleaner in a carpet shampooer, would the heat from the machine keep the enzymes from working full strength?
@@dippo_13i just got it, and am trying. its hard to do cuz urine must be dry to fluoresce. so far oxy cleaners and resolve work faster the first time, but smell may come through on humid or hot days. Enzyme *will* take longer. but theoretically should be more thorough and last longer. just remember no boiling water, chlorinated stuff or disinfectants after the enzyme or you destroy the enzymes
Regarding the smell. I didn’t test this because I could think of no logical way to fairly measure it. I do know that there was no noticeable smell in the room after treatment, when there definitely was before treatment. I asked my assistant to smell each spot and see what he could discover, but he declined.
See this is actually a really important component of the test missing. If there is any residual smell a dog will repeat that behavior. Believe me from experience, even the best carpet cleaner could still leave behind residual smell. As far as I’ve noticed enzymatic cleaner’s are best at removing the smell and preventing future spotting by dogs. Maybe bring in a dog and see if he peas all over the carpet Hah Hah
@@ranikaj92 Yes, this is true. Also cat pee is worse because of the higher percentage of protein. The enzymatic cleaners are better at breaking down the proteins. Edit: when I use an enzymatic cleaner, I wet the area thoroughly and then leave a plastic bag, usually a trash bag, over the top of it to keep it wet, and let it sit for 24 hours. Far different from the process used here. Using the enzymatic cleaner in this way, then going over it again with the oxy cleaner, blotting it up, and then going over it again with a steam cleaner might be the ultimate way to remove a stubborn pet stain.
The smell test is a HUGE must! (Maybe next time kindly ask a woman friend to help because we're a lil more inclined to smell weird things than men are. Lol) I swear tho that anything that's labeled for "pet urine" automatically makes the spot smell 10xs worse, not better. Even if the pee stain didn't smell all that bad before, after cleaning it with pet urine remover it smells awful! I actually came here looking for a good cleaner, which I'll totally try the resolve you mentioned, but how it smells afterwards is a huge factor for most people. Honestly, I've just been kinda using a wet rag soaked with dawn dish liquid when my cat pees, ugh, and that seems to have better smelling results than the bottle of bissell pet urine pro something or other we have. That stuff straight up smells like perfumed piss in a bottle! Lol Ugh, it's so bad!
Do you have any tips for deodorizing the spot cleaner machines? After purchasing one based on your reviews, I love it, but after months of cleaning, the thing stinks to high heaven. Washing/sterilizing the wastewater bin doesn't have the desired effect.
I don’t think I’ve ever loved a man as much as I love you right now lol you have answered so many prayers for me! Having kittens can be messy! Thank you for putting so much time/attention to detail/resources into your videos! 💜
You should get a UV flashlight and check for stains after the cleaning. I recently got one and was shocked at the stains on my seemingly immaculate carpet.
I've had the best luck with Arm an Hammer's pet stain and odor carpet cleaner. Not sure whether the old UV stains in my rental are pee, vomit, or any other fluids that shine under blacklight though, I've heard pee notoriously leaves behind crystals that embed in the carpet fibers
Probably your most useful review for me! Using coyote urine wass great setup. Sir, my wife has been ripping her hair out trying to solve this car urine situation at our house. I think you just gave us the solution. Thanks for the video!
You missed the important part, how did it do on the smell? I can get the stains out NP but getting rid of the residual smell is the big issue. Did you use carpet padding? Because once the pee gets down to the padding, and it will, a few squirts of cleaner isn't going to reach it. Interesting test and it cheers me up that you came to pretty much the same conclusion I did after a few years of experimenting thanks to an incontinent dog. Resolve spray then carpet cleaner for best results.
I agree with you. I've used that Resolve cleaner and, while it does get the urine stain up, the smell comes back within a week. What finally worked to get rid of the smell was essentially the process he recommended for cleaning up the urine stain with a carpet cleaner but I used the Nature product in the red bottle instead (and liberally) along with the Bissell pro carpet solution.
VERY THOROUGHLY THOUGHT-OUT PROCEDURE TO DETERMINE THE BEST PRODUCT TO REMOVE ANIMAL URINE STAIN, I APPRECIATE THE TEST AND NON-BIAS OPINION. THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS.
I agree on this. Resolve spray, followed by a few passes from the carpet shampoo vacuum, took care of vomit for us. You can't even tell anything happened. I will always have resolve on hand. I used resolved, but couldn't shampoo until 2 days later because I needed a new one. Even after 2 days, the fact that I used Resolve initially helped tremendously!
Your pick IS a great product. Specifically for dog urine I've settled on 'Out! Pet Care Urine Destroyer.' And although I followed up with my Kalorik vacuum (dry) then wet vac after going back & adding fresh water (instructions). This vacuum can be used for wet or dry clean up. The filtration system is water in the canister.
This couldn't have come at a better time! I'm cleaning my carpets this weekend and my biggest concern is handling the cat urine. Glad to see these results! Did you notice anything in regards to smell?
I've used the Resolve carpet cleaner Urine Destroyer, and it works wonderfully to remove stains. I use a wet/dry vac instead of "blotting" with a cloth.
I can smell this video from over the pond. I hold you up there with Project Farm for the dedication to your science, very interesting to see the chemicals at work.
Good video. As a "pet person" with carpet, I have had lots of experience with stains. I find using a high-powered wet/dry vac to suck out the urine and dampness after cleaning to be very effective. I got the idea by watching a professional carpet cleaner clean my carpet. And like Chris mentions, being careful not to spread around the stain when sucking it out. I'd also add that there is no substitute for an occasional visit by a good professional carpet cleaning company. And a pet-resistant underlayment also helps. Coyote urine is worse than cat urine? Ick!!
If you do use an iron make sure it is not too hot and be careful not to burn or melt the carpet fibers. That is because you will have a spot there that is a lot more obvious than a smelly yellow spot. If the fibers melt there may be a noticeable spot where the carpet texture does not feel the same. Also I would consider using an iron to be an "advanced" step. If you know someone who has a steamer you may want to see if you can borrow that first. With a steamer you won't run the risk of applying 450°F or more to the carpet.
At 0:23 it looks like Bissell Pet and Bissell Pro (when following the directions of spraying and blotting) deliver equally good results as the Resolve spray. Plus - Bissell Pet Pro also says it helps to remove odor. Can you comment on this?
Looking for which stain remover is best, found your video. I've watched your vacuum videos and it helped in my purchasing of a solid vacuum. This video did the same for the stain remover, I really want to commend you on your thoroughness and just straight forward explanations. The best cleaner is water and vinegar it takes even old pet stains out in seconds! and the smell dissipates within a few hours. But by far the easiest way to get rid of a stain over all types of cleaners I’ve tried
When it comes to damaging the carpet colour. It depends mostly on what type of carpet it is. If you have a solution dyed nylon carpet you should be safe to use whatever without damaging the carpet colour
My main concern is getting rid of the ammonia smell all over my apartment. There are no visible stains anywhere (at least none that show through my sand-colored carpet.)
Thank you so much for this video! I have a puppy and a senior dog and I use enzymatic cleaners most of the time. I have one question: when you did your test, did you have any carpet padding underneath? My experience with urine stains was it got the carpet clean but the padding was not. I started pouring my cleaner on the stain with the hopes it would saturate the padding as well then i would go over it with my machine. I agree! I would do the same by pouring it on the carpet, letting it sit, then cleaning with a towel and standing on it or with something heavy on it. I never had problems with actual stains. It easy always the smell.
Nature's Miracle worked wonders for lingering dog urine scent that none of the Bissell cleaners (including the Oxy Urine Eliminator) could eliminate. I actually poured the entire 32-oz bottle on the area and let it dry over 2-3 days. No blotting or anything - there was no stain, only odor. Now I smell only the scent of Nature's Miracle, it's slowly fading over time. To me, that's a win.
I look after dogs, had a dog pee on my sofa the smell was terrible no matter how much i cleaned it,i bought natures miracle, poured it all over the seating had to let it air dry for days, got the smell out and saved me having to buy a new sofa.
Big problem with resolve though. It may be the best in these tests. But it leaves TONS of residue. There is so much foam and soap left in the carpet after using resolve. I found Bissell works almost as well but leaves far less residue.
Considering the urine stains, yes you can remove most of them but unfortunately the main issue is in the pad which carpet that has become heavily or moderately saturated over time will need to be replaced. There is absolutely nothing you can do unless you want to use a product like decon 100 or 200 or a scent stop offered by Mohawk which can remove the smell. Most these products are commercial but can be purchased online.
I've been online searching for the Mohawk Scent Stop and can't find it anywhere. I've called all over even to Mohawk and no one knows or has anything. If you have a link, can you share?
I know this is a little late but, If I were to use Resolve and put Baking Soda with it. Would that work? I am asking with baking soda because I know baking soda does kill odor and wondering if this could be a extra step I can take? I normally use baking soda when my cat goes on the carpet as you can just sweep up some of it and then vacuum the rest but the stain is still there but the odor really isn't.
Thanks, but my issue is the stain coming back a week or two later. Have you tested this before? My apologies if you already addressed this. Also, my pet stains are exposed to sun so may also be heat set. 😢 ugh! I used not Kids & Pets and Folex before using a carpet cleaner w/ Febrez Oxy. Thx
Yes! I clean carpet as well. Better off with peroxide n water! Also it still glows under black light even when cleaned! Resolve is a no no in professional world! Need water clawed if it’s bad enough.
I am in search of a good urine remover and throught to myself, "I wish someone tested and compared the different brands like vacuum wars reviews vacuum cleaners" and boom, now I"m here. Love yout channel!
Why… tell me why im listening this channel..? I don’t have animals, I don’t obsess over vacuums but.. I love it. Its weird. I guess i’ll just go with the flow
Okay but what about smell? That's the important part. Please do a video for best carpet machine solutions for pet urine. I used Bissell Urine Eliminator with my Pet Pro 2X on decade-old cat pee and it did a good job after several applications.
THANK YOU! Talk about options paralysis, I couldn't figure out what to do and didn't want to have to go through the cleaning process several more times. I had a runner rug rolled up and I was watching my friends dog, it peed on it twice without me noticing so it's full of urine odor and it's rolled up in my garage right now. I got it from an estate sale and it's an amazing rug that would be worth hundreds of dollars to replace so I'm loath to throw it away but I tried to wash it out once with basic shampoo and that DIDN'T WORK! Thank you for some hope.
Agree100%. Resolve Carpet & Rug has been what works the best for me for my 2 pit bulls and toothless orange tabby cat. But when nothing else works cheap vodka has never let me down. (For carpet stains I mean. LOL)
I would be interested to know how the spots smell after cleaning and if the spots get dirty quicker after cleaning because of the "stickiness" of the cleaner being left on the carpet.
Hi VW, thanks for the great video! I was wondering if there was a place to see a list of how everything else did? We don't have Resolve stuff in my country- but we have the Nature's Miracle etc. I am dealing with an older dog who is becoming incontinent and from what I can see on the results, it looks like the Bissell stuff is the next next thing to Resolve? I plan to do the spray, gently agitate, blot, then hit it with the Bissell Little Green I have.
The timing on this… actual text from my spouse after he cleaned up something our cat barfed up earlier: “Either resolve is god tier or this was relatively wet still”
Personally the best way is to over saturate the urine ( about 1.5 to 2 times the amount of urine) and let it air dry.. this will get 98% of the smell and sticky urine substance... You can't really get rid of it 100% because to do that you have to pull up the carpet and treat the subfloor, pad and carpet ... If you want to carpet clean after the enzyme cleaner dries you can.. just you never want to carpet clean an old stain ( had time to dry) because the carpet cleaner will simply spread the urine around... You need the enzyme cleaner.. but if you do not mind the smell of vinegar for about 4 days maybe a week it will destroy the urine smell at a fraction of the price
Very interesting video. As carpet cleaners, we typically don't recommend many of these cleaners (especially Resolve) because they tend to leave a residue...it's hard to test for that, but if you don't fully extract it out, it will look worse over time. From experience, Resolve is one of the most difficult to get out of the carpet. Also, somehow our customers always bleach out their carpet using it, so I'm not sure what they are doing differently -lol. I'm also curious to know if any of the spots came back after they dried, as there was a lot of urine, product, and water used. As others pointed out, there are several factors involved when cleaning urine (carpet padding, smell, what kind of carpet you have, technique) so it is pretty hard to test for every scenario, but I still give you props for making the video!
There aren't any pro cleaners in my little town but I can order shampoos and sprays from Amazon. Any ideas on what works best for dog urine SMELL?my carpet looks clean but.. well you can guess the rest.
@@milkweedsage I'm going to toot our own horn here so my apologies lol but we actually get this question a lot and there's not a lot of products out there we could recommend for consumer use, so we ended up creating our own called "Stain Fu". We have the link on our RUclips page if you wanted to check it out :). On our Stain Fu RUclips channel we have videos on there on how to get rid of the smell as well. In many cases, urine ends up getting into the carpet padding and possibly subfloor, so the key is to find the source, and apply enough product to address the source. Depending on how much urine there is (usually about 20% or more of the total area), the pad might have to be replaced since it's essentially like a giant sponge and would be difficult to get it all out, even for a professional. Hopefully that helps!
@@milkweedsage don't use someone's homemade concoction, just get an enzyme cleaner with good reviews and follow the directions. Bissell Urine Eliminator, Resolve Urine Destroyer, Clorox Urine Remover are all good industrial products. Simple Green Cat Urine is a safe enzyme cleaner with a wonderful scent, just do a rinse cycle with it in the machine and leave the carpet damp to let the enzymes do their thing. I've had good results on decade-old cat pee. Residue isn't a problem, just do a normal rinse cycle with some vinegar a few days after a major clean.
maybe your customers are using too warm water. I made this mistake, thinking it would help rinse out product better, but ended up bleaching the stripes out of the area i was trying to fix 🤦🏻
Same advice my Granny gave me years & years ago when I asked her about other carpet stain removal (non-urine). Back then I thought to myself that surely she was wrong, Silly me,,,I failed to take into account the woman always had white carpet in @ least 1 room of her home and had a dozen grandchildren in her home & then the great-grandchildren too. In a relatively short timeframe afterwards, I discovered she was correct but unfortunately not before she passed from this life.
You Sir are amazing!! Love all your videos!! I don't know if its far from your area of expertise, but if you could do one on humidifiers I would absolutely appreciate it!! I trust you.
I would not do that again if someone paid me. 😂 Please learn from my stupid mistake. It foamed up so bad that I ended up taking the rug outside and using the hose on it. I'm grateful that it was just a small area rug in the kitchen instead of actual carpet. It was a disaster.
Hi. I am moving into an apartment that has a sweet perfume smell in certain areas on the carpet.. specifically along the floorboards in certain areas and two corners in the bedroom. I think the person probably had pet(s) I'm wondering if you know of a product that has a sweet-perfumie smell. I am wanting to get the chemical smell out and or neutralize it some how. Thank you for any help and ideas. Diane
Gotta agree with everyone regarding the smell. What works best on the smell? And could you test these under a black light (must be fully dried.) I'd love to know anything that would remove a cat urine stain from detection under black light. Thanks for the video and I'm eagerly awaiting the followup.
Could you please redo the carpet cleaner solution with urine as well? Watched that video about 10 times now whenever I have to order more cleaner. If you could do separate swatches of carpet to then test the left over urine smell.
If the spot you cleaned seems brighter than the area around it, it just might be that the rest of the carpet is dirty. I found that out. I'm going to try this method, since all others I've tried in the past have not worked all that well.
What if you had put vinegar and baking soda on the stain initially and then tried some in effective product first. Do I need to do something to remove all of these previous “remedies“? SOS
In my quest to find the perfect cleaner, I recall that it's bad to use heat. As far as organic stains (sweat, grass, blood, urine, food etc) heat 'bakes' in the stain/odor. Really the few people that should use hot water wash are mechanics or people treating an outbreak of some sort (fungus, lice, fleas, etc) as about half of dryers do not get hot enough to deal with these issues.
what about hard wood, walls, dressers, leather couch? what would be the best urine destroyer/order eliminator ? have you done that test? & in your opinion what works best for the things i mentioned OXY OR EMZYME? thanks got some cats and they are marking territory & looking for the best eliminator.

Where Do You Buy The SMELL Remover
You Were Talking About?????
Thanks.....
Have you tried using Dawn dish soap? A carpet persons says that's what they use on pet stains. Just wondering.
Wow! Super explanations and details. Your efforts surely will help anyone who watches this video.
Youre the best man, I love your testing methodology and getting steaight to the point. Amazing.
Thank you!
Thx
did you try soaking some of the urine up? before trying anything else. Seems that would help. instead of leaving it and then adding cleaner to it.
Great, well thought out testing methods. We appreciate your efforts!
Thank you!
Great video. In the professional world we don’t use any of those off the shelf brands. And we use a water claw and extract. The other issue is odor.
Yes! I clean carpet as well. Better off with peroxide n water! Also it still glows under black light even when cleaned! Resolve is a no no in professional world! Need water clawed if it’s bad enough.
@@dridinger why is resolve a no-no in the professional world? I'm looking for the best product i can get my hands on, don't care who makes it.
Do you recommend shampooing immediately after using the resolve or waiting 24 hours, vacuuming, then shampooing?
Thank you for this video. Really helps me know what and how to apply to our dog pee stained carpet. Were that Oscar - well deserved.
Well I must be middle age because I love these videos! Lol all of them~ and I use them as guides to buy my cleaning equipment. 👏🏻
Thank you
Okay but what about smell? That's the important part. Please do a video for best carpet machine solutions for pet urine. I used Bissell Urine Eliminator with my Pet Pro 2X on decade-old cat pee and it did a good job after several applications.
Now we just need a test on the pet cleaner solutions that go in the machines
I hope it works out!
removing the stain is one thing but did it also remove the Urine smell?
Wow, bless you for taking the time to do this.
Thank you!
I’m curious, did you use an upright carpet cleaner to clean and reset the test carpet? If yes, which one?
Agree100%. Resolve Carpet & Rug has been what works the best for me for my 2 pit bulls and toothless orange tabby cat. But when nothing else works cheap vodka has never let me down. (For carpet stains I mean. LOL)
gotta keep an eye on that toothless tabby!
Amen to that. @@VacuumWars
Thank you for taking the time to make this video
You're welcome and thank you for watching.
I would be interested to know how the spots smell after cleaning and if the spots get dirty quicker after cleaning because of the "stickiness" of the cleaner being left on the carpet.
I'm sorry to hear that.
Not a mention of how well they do on odor, the smell is going to be most people's #1 concern
Great video!
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you too!
*old urine. I think the previous tenant's dog left some surprises and my dog just made it worse.
What’s the best cleaning solution. To put inside the carpet cleaner ???
Awesome review as a pet owner this was so helpful 👌👌👌
Glad it was helpful!
I wonder if white vinegar would do any good
Same advice my Granny gave me years & years ago when I asked her about other carpet stain removal (non-urine).
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
"Out" for pet stains is the best of all.
Which one would you recommend for puzzle foam mat? I have that for my bunny and I’m not sure what to spot clean his urine with.
Wow! I love this comparison videos, can not stop watching!!
Glad you like them!
@@VacuumWars please keep making comparison videos, it's really nice to see many different products and which one is best of them
Would this method prevent the cat from resoiling in the same spot?
You Sir are amazing!! Love all your videos!! I don't know if its far from your area of expertise, but if you could do one on humidifiers I would absolutely appreciate it!! I trust you.
Thanks! So I don't think that is in the plan right now, but thanks for the suggestion. I love good ideas.
Good video but I have a question.
Can you use laundry detergent in a carpet shampooer?
Yep shine a black light on those results.
Fantastic video. Amazing explanation. Great tests. Incredible pacing. Thank you!!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the review. I just ordered the two you recommended.
Hope you enjoy them!
Could you please redo the carpet cleaner solution with urine as well? Watched that video about 10 times now whenever I have to order more cleaner. If you could do separate swatches of carpet to then test the left over urine smell.
So we can use spot cleaner after ploting no need to wait 24 hours?
You are truly a gift to humanity . Thank you for your thorough research!!
If the spot you cleaned seems brighter than the area around it, it just might be that the rest of the carpet is dirty. I found that out. I'm going to try this method, since all others I've tried in the past have not worked all that well.
What is your recommendation for cleaning hard floors? I have engineered hardwood and dirt builds up in the grooves my N8 won’t clean.
This guy is a legend! What a great video. Thanks
Thank you!
What if you had put vinegar and baking soda on the stain initially and then tried some in effective product first. Do I need to do something to remove all of these previous “remedies“? SOS
Thank you! I appreciate your tests!
Soak it up if wet. Pour which ever you choose in a turkey baster. Push down squirt wait according to bottle. Let dry and extract.
what about hard wood, walls, dressers, leather couch? what would be the best urine destroyer/order eliminator ? have you done that test? & in your opinion what works best for the things i mentioned OXY OR EMZYME? thanks got some cats and they are marking territory & looking for the best eliminator.
Thanks for the video
Omg you are lifesaver!
I noticed the face mask. That says everything I need to know about coyote urine potency!
No joke!
What’s the best for odour I moved into a very stinky rented house , it’s so strong
great stain test - but it's the smell that's key. it get's into the pad - a spray to remove the stain, sure. but the enzyme has to get into the pad.
I don't even have carpet or rugs in my house but I found this fascinating
Thank you!
Thank you for this! Love your videos very well done!
Glad you like them!
I'd like to see you add in Skout's Honor - they are doing some new kinds of stuff that is supposedly very good (not enzymatic or oxy)
We can't make any promises right now, but thank you for that suggestion.
7JAN22, stock for resolve carpet cleaner went through the roof.
