- A video tribute to Rod Roddy, a Price is Right announcer who was diagnosed with colon and breast cancer.
Using my creativity and a tribute track, I made clips from various years of The Price is Right using his voice as he calls contestants to come on down and calls out several prizes, as if he was the announcer from year one to the current year.
Rod Roddy and Bob Barker = the golden age of Game shows.
Nicely done tribute. Rod would have loved this.
I first met Rod Roddy in 1956. He parked his new 1956 "white on blue" Oldsmobile on the wrong side of the street, walked across the lawn to me and ask if my brother was home. Roddy was 19. I was 12.
Later I asked my brother "who is he?". "Rod Roddy" he said. "He works at KXOL".
That began a relationship that lasted. Rod and I both ended up in Hollywood, although Rod continued to live in our native Fort Worth. I would run into him as he was entering or leaving a Hollywood studio facility where he would do "voice overs".
He was a great guy, Rod Roddy. Funny man too. And he also wrote funny. An episode he wrote and played voice parts in can be heard at youtube post titled "Charlie and Harrigan KLIF Dallas". There are 3 parts. Roddy and Brice Armstrong wrote that morning's show. 3 hours of material but the posts only total 1 hour.
Rod Roddy. I can see his face now, the way I last saw him. What a Great smile. One of the best smiles I have ever seen.
Thank you very much for the effort you put into this wonderful tribute. I truly believe Rod would have a tear in eye. I know I do.
-from another Rod Roddy fan.
"A NEW CARRR!!!" That's how I'll always remember Rod Roddy! RIP :(
KeithJMcG1987 I found it great when Bob got to do a Come on Down on his 90th birthday. It wasn't quite like Rod's or Johnny's but it really brought something special to the show.
KeithJMcG1987 1937-2003
Rod Roddy was the announcer of The Price is Right from the time I was born. When I started watching The Price is Right ever
since I was a little boy, and I've recognized his voice from the opening and closing spiels of the production of The Price is Right.
My dream was be on The Price is Right to win a lot of money, and to meet Rod Roddy and tell him "You've got such a handsome voice". As of October 27, 2003, My dreams don't come true because Rod Roddy died of colon cancer or male breast cancer at the age of 66 years old. I was 4 years old at the time of Rod Roddy's passing. To support the tribute to Rod Roddy, I was trying to do an
impersonation of Rod Roddy.
I love hearing Rod's make-specific "new car" announcements with Drew's Price is Right clips!!
stixnatedogg yes! just shows how it would've been had he lived to do Drew's version.
RIP Rod. This Thursday, you left us 8 years ago. And though we have new voices, your voice can never be replaced. We love you and miss you, Rod. RIP Rod Roddy 1937-2003
If Rod were still with us today, he and Drew would've had great chemistry working together.
Totally agree!
Rod Roddy, one of the best announcers of The Price is Right!
Take off the "One of" & you would be right!
Don't you mean THE BEST?!
@@tonybidwell2582 Don't forget Johnny Olson, the man who invited the phrase "COME ON DOWN!"
@@TBONE_2004Rod was good, but Johnny was the king of announcers! I can do the come on downs just as good(my voice is loud).
It’s been 25 years and I still can’t believe Rod said my name to come on down :-)
I'll remember Rod Roddy for the Price is Right, and ANOTHER show he did...
"Today, these three contestants are after *BIIIIIIIIIIIIG BUCKS!* But they'll have to avoid The Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood, it's time to PRESS YOUR LUCK! And now, here's your host, the star of Press Your Luck... *PETEEEEEER TOMARKEN!*"
@charles allan And don't forget...
"If you'd like to be a contestant on Hit Man, *_FORGET IT!_* And now, back to Peter Tomarken!"
Not to worry, game show fans. He's up there now with his old buddy from Press Your Luck, Peter Tomarken.
RIP Rod Roddy, no one can EVER compare to you. Rich Fields came close, but not close enough.
Today, marks the 10th Anniversary of Rod's passing. We still miss you, Rod and we will continue to celebrate and honour those three magic words every weekday morning on CBS.
A broadcaster friend of mine once thought Rod's last name was "Speaking"... because Rod always closed shows with "This is Rod Roddy speaking... for (show name)!" If you ever hear one of those lines, you can see where the idea came from!
This was an amzing tribute to Rod. Just imagine if he were still alive announcing today, he and Drew would make an amazing team, on and off television.
Simply wonderful! I was Rod's friend and dinner partner for decades and on-stage with him many times. He had me edit video for him of his call-downs, etc. I agree with the others: Rod would have LOVED this! Thanks for all your time and effort.
“A NEW CAR!!!” That’s how I’ll always remember Rod Roddy! RIP
Rod’s voice reminds me of the announcing he did for Press Your Luck. He was fantastic
I remember there was a woman who made it on stage and won her pricing game. She brought with her a gift for Bob and a gift for Rod. They were custom made ball caps that she had made herself. The ball cap for Bob was green and had The Price is Right logo on it and the ball cap for Rod was glittering gold to go with those shiny jackets he always wore. Bob and Rod loved their caps and thanked her for them. Later on, in the show Rod was shown wearing his new ball cap. I was happy he did, I was hoping we'd get to see how his ball cap looked with one his jackets. Contestants every now and then brought gifts for Bob but once in a while brought a gift for Rod as well.
Nice tribute video!!!!!
The Camera Work Makes The Stage Even Bigger
Rod Roddy, one of the best voices and announcers in the decade: And now, here is the ★ of the $ Price is right, BOBBBBBBBB Barkerrr! Rest in peace, Mr. Roddy!!! May you Rest peacefully!
That what be a cool tap dancing song.
Bob Barker was host of The Price Is Right for 35 years, and outlasted both his announcers.
The best game show duo.
I watch this over and over. Rod is so good
I grew up with Rod Roddy as a rock and roll DJ at WKBW in Buffalo, NY!
Rod Roddy certainly made excellent voiceovers.
i miss rod, one thing i noticed about the set is originally the seats were blue then red and now they are blue again
It gives us an important lesson in life, always treasure what you have today because it may not be here tomorrow
BTW Rod Roddy did two of my favorite Game Shows, Press Your Luck and The Price is Right
R. I. P. Rod Roddy😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🥺🥺😭😭😭🥺🥺😭😭😭😭
Rod Roddy was a part of my childhood while watching TPIR during summer vacation. He will always be my favorite announcer on TPIR.
Rod Roddy died well before Price's 35th year and well before Bob's retirement or the production switch to HDTV. A good portion of these clips are not infact Rod announcing, but its a nice tribute to a great announcer anyway.
When I bought my car I just kept hearing Rod Roddy yelling "A NEW CAR!" in my head
Rod Roddy is the Jack Barry of game show announcers.
Happy Belated Birthday to the late Robert Ray Roddy.9-28-37.Forth Worth,TX.
At 1:39 when they show the shiny light blue car, that's clearly a clip from the early 1970's, in which Johnny Olson was the announcer. Rod's voice sounded a lot like Johnny's. Johnny took Rod under his wing before he became an announcer on TPIR. Johnny's the one that started the phrase "COME ON DOWN" when in the very 1st episode of TPIR he would tell the contestants to "stand up" after announcing their name. "Stand up" didn't sit well for the viewers, so Johnny Olson began saying "come on down" (so legend has it). Just a bit of trivia
Bring back this America....Happiness and Fun
if only they had clips where bob and rod would talk to each other as they're finding a name. you know, like:
bob: rooooooood?
rod: yes bob?
bob: will you go on a contestant search please?
The wardrobe malfunction occurred when Johnny Olson was announcer, and Rod died in 2003.
The contestant that is coming on down at about the 0:45 mark, the woman with the sunglasses on the top of her head, a light blue shirt that read GET SERIOUS, is none other then Vanna White which was recorded in May 1980. From what I have read is that she never made it out of contestant's row, and this was about two years before she replaced Susan Stafford on Wheel of Fortune. The link to the video below confirms it.
ruclips.net/video/5e27GD9WjWc/видео.html
***** And she never got up on stage to play a pricing game...BUT we can make sure she does in the video games!
***** She would've made a good model for The Price is Right. It's too bad she never made up on stage but it's up to the contestants to make that happen. At that time, my girlfriend was like 2 months old and I wasn't even born yet.
Yeah, at that time she was still a fashion model and Pat Sajack was still a weatherman. Pat replaced Chuck Woolery in 1981 and just like you said, Vanna replaced Susan Stafford in 1982.
Rod wasn't there when Bob had his 50th anniversary in Television. That was the same time he retired, which was 2007. Rod died in 2003.
My kids memories of when I cameto dine at home from school.
Rod Roddy with the Current Price
Better tribute than what Bob Barker gave him.
A NEW CAR!!!!!
exactly 8 years ago, Rod Roddy died
You're a good man.
COME ON DOWN
Rod roddy is a legend
Johnny olson, Rod Roddy, and Rich fields was both my favorite announcers. This other announcer Georg gray really sucks. But if Rod was alive, I am quite sure he will get along with Drew over Bob. From what I have heard, Rod and Bob didn't get a long very well. From what I was told in a Nother video Bob and johnny had better chemistry then he and Rod did. I do not know if that is true. Now rod is up there with Richard Dawson, Charlie O'Donnell, his buddy Peter Tamarkin, johnny olson, and gene wood. May rod rest in heavenly peace.
Does everybody automatically go to heaven?
That what be a cool tap dancing song.
It's funny that of ALL the things you could have commented on, you chose that. Maybe the person who uploaded this, like me, wish Rod had been around for the clips that you so conveniently pointed out.
To the uploader of this video, this is a very fitting tribute. :)
Around or just before the 1:00, the young lady in the blue t shirt, I think, is Vanna White. They showed that clip once somewhere.
I saw the co host of wheel of fortune
The perfect replacement for Johnny Olson
0:38 - he sounds angry lol
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBB BAAARRKKEEERRRR
Hahahaha this is fantastic. Great work (;
The Lady @ 0:45 - 0:52 is Vanna White before she got the job on Wheel of Fortune.
It was cool that you add clips even though he didn't announce those particular clips. I thought it was a pretty cool tribute nonetheless.
How come some of these show Drew Carey? He wasn't there when Rod Roddy was the announcer.
The tribute shows clips of Drew as if Rod still announced then.
A lot of the cars that were shown are more recent also. I don't remember when he passed away, but I know it was a while ago, maybe 10-15 years.
@@organrick was October 2003. so 16 years this year
What is that HD episode with Rod's voice?
Johnny Olson was the best.
🎉🎉🎉

Bob never respected Rod Roddy.
