  • In this video I test 3 different inexpensive car wash soaps to hopefully find the best cheap option for efficiently washing my side by side. I compare Turtle wax vs. Armor All vs. Generic Dish Soap. I also compare these cheap options to an expensive option: Slick Off-Road Wash. The results were unexpected.

Purple Power VEHICLE & BOAT WASH is pretty decent it's in the power wash liquid area at Walmart and (well a few years ago) was about $10-12 a gallon (possibly more now with prices being up there). I use it all the time combined with or before a standard car wash / wash and wax. Scott from Dallas Auto Detail turned me on to it years ago and I've used it ever since - I will say though that if you're mindful of spray waxes or even a sealant you may want to go easy on it as it will strip those things away without too much effort but works well on mud and road grime - I use it diluted about 5:1 as an exterior all purpose cleaner (like for wheels and painted bumpers running boards, etc.)

I will try it out. I have used purple power around the house and cleaning siding. I have never seen the vehicle and boat wash but it looks like its pretty easy to find and fairly cheap. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated!

Problem with the slick may be due to not adding some water in the cup with it. It's super concentrate. I use same ryobi power washer and the slick for a long time and it always foams up alot. Also pretty thick stuff, why adding a bit water helps thin it a little.

That’s true. I’ll try it again on my next wash

Car wash soaps are meant to wash the vehicle without stripping the wax or coating and some are formulated to replenish wax/coating. Dawn and other degreasing detergents aren't formulated this way. Now if you don't wax your plastics/paint, then this point is moot. I wax my plastics and only use Dawn (or Sam's Club equivalent) when I want to strip the surface of all previous wax to start fresh.

I don't wax my plastics really but I do use SC1 after every wash. I may try waxing in the future. Maybe it would help with getting mud off easier.

I hate coming home from s trip knowing I have to wash the rig. That said, amsoil mudslinger is better than sc1

I have never heard of mudslinger but I bet its good. I love amsoil products. I had a zr600 and zr800 snowmobiles and they were both two strokes. I originally used the recommended arctic cat oil and it would constantly gum up the power valves. I switched to Amsoil and never had an issue again. I will have to find some. Thank you so much!

Washing vehicles of any kind IS NOT EXCITING

Nope. It's definitely necessary to keeping the vehicle in good condition but not fun or exciting.
