When I bought the 24mm G Master Lens it became my staple lens, and I use it for probably about 75-80% of the shots I get on shoots. Especially since with the a7iii I can punch in, so it is basically a 24mm and 35mm lens in one. So good.
Couldn't agree more that the tamron 28-75 is a beast. started out with a nikon and a samyang 14mm. then moved to sony a6300 and put that 14mm on a speedbooster, and now i own a a7iii, still that 14mm 2.8f and the tamron 28-75. thats basically all i need. I got the wide shot, and the medium ranges on a nice fast aperture. If i could only have 3 lenses it would be: 14mm 2.8 24mm 1.4 35mm 2.8 (if i could have 4: also the 85mm) (I want fast primes since i capture events and clubs)
This is one of the legit reviews on the lenses so far I have seen.... It tells me which lens I should buy, and in what aspect I should use it... thanks PL!!!! good work... keep it up bro!!!
I almost always use the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM with my a7iii for all my youtube tutorials. But when shooting my short films, I've been slowly collecting the Sigma ART E mount prime lenses cause I love the way they look. I rented the 50mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.2 and they looked great. Just bought the Sigma ART 85mm f/1.8 a couple weeks ago.
we do love our lenses & taking about them.. my 3 go too lenses are my Samyang 85mm F1.4 & 45mm F1.8 & also I use my Sigma 16mm F1.4 in super 35 mode which gives me 24mm
My everyday carry in terms of lenses are the 16-35 2.8 GM and 70-200 2.8 from Sony. I tested out some Tamron options and I can confirm what you said. The 28-75 2.8 is really impressive. Plus the Super 35 Mode from Sony can extend all the ranges a bit.
We enjoy learning what other people have in their bag because it gives us all hope that we can someday, with the same tools you use, achieve the close to the amazing results that you do!!!
I mostly use the Tameron 28-75 2.8. Then it’s a split between the Sony 24 mm G master 1.4 and the Sony 90 mm 2.8 macro. The macro lens is probably the sharpest I have ever tried! Note that it’s not only good for macro but also amazing for portraits etc.
Peter, I started watching you around 2000 subscribers when I was first getting started with cameras. I don’t know what it is about this video but it brings me back to that time and the excitement involved with starting this amazing hobby/profession. Love your reviews of products, especially the lenses. By the way, that angle of the office is sharp!
I mainly shoot video, but some photography. I got canon ef 16-35 f2.8 (vlogging/b-roll), Tamron ef 24-70 f2.8 (b-roll because image stabilized), and Tamron ef 85mm f1.8 (photography and b-roll). I think this will be my kit for a long time!
Grym video som vanligt, Peter! Fortsätt kämpa, det är alltid lika spännande att få ett pling i luren när du lagt upp nåt nytt! At the moment I have 4 lenses in my bag. Tamron 17-28, Tamron 28-75, Sony 85/1.8 and Sigma 24/1.4. My favorites are the Sigma 24 and Sony 85. Man, the pics from these two are just amazing! The tamys are great but are more “compromises” in my bag. 28-75 is a great run and gun and works quite good on my A6300 (for that extra reach). 17-28 is great on the A7III on a gimbal. But if I could skip one of these lenses it would be the 17-28.
Gary Jahman ya I’m a pro hobbyist photographer and just got that lens. I have the 17-28 the 28-75 and the 70-180 f2.8 tamrons. They all allow me to keep up with my professional friends when we go out shooting.
Sony E Mount: 16-35, 50, 85 doing portraits, landscapes, street. Videowork. Those cover all my needs😁 Maybe in the future a 135 from Sigma or the Batis one from Zeiss.
Hi Pete! For my A7Rii, I use a Samyang 35mm f/2.8 for street which is nothing special but the autofocus on the latest firmware is the bomb and also did I mention its TINY? 2nd lens: Samyang 85mm f/1.4. This is my favorite tele. fast, light but might hunt sometimes in video. AF C is mostly perfect on Still. 3rd lens: My favorite glass of all, Sigma 20mm f/1.4 FE. I cannot state in words how much I love this lens. I picked it over basically all wide angle ones by sony. super sharp and the bokeh is to drool for. only downside? like all sigma it's built like a tank and it's really heavy. And man I love how confident you have become throught the last few months, keep up the good job
Hey Peter ! Thanks for the video, loved your insights ! I've had the two first lens, 28-75 Tamron and 16-35 and I ended up selling both to get the Sony 24-105 F4G. Reason is : I felt really uninspired by both of the first lenses, they just weren't my style of shooting. I did not like to go as wide as 16, and I always liked the look of longer focals and 75 didnt cut it for me (as a matter of fact, you get the same amount of blur with F4 at 105, than F2.8 at 75). For me, the 24-105 is perfect, would love to complement it with the 24 F1.4 once, to have a low light lens and lighter lens for travel. Edit : I haven't mention, and that might be a bit materialistic of me, but one of the thing that did put me off of the two first lens mentionned is their build quality. Just didn't like them in the hands. Much prefer the buildy quality of G and GM lenses of Sony.
I’ve been through the exact route selling the tammy and 16-35, even sold the 17-28. Got the 24GM and 24-105G. But I’m in doubt getting back the 17-28 and changing the zeiss 55 for a batis 85 because of OSS. The 24-105 is practical, but the 24GM is special because of that f1.4. Really should be your next lens!
Just discovered your channel, wild man...aaaaaand I love it! You talk a lot like I do (only I have a Texas accent - yeehaw). So, to answer your question about the studio setup: Yeah, I dig it. One vote from me.
I like your take on lenses bc I’ve got a similar setup. Got the16-35 first and it’s killer, next was a 24 1.4, I have the 85 1.8 and now I’m looking for an all around-er like the tamron. I’m actually leaning towards the sigma 24-70 2.8 but more or less, same kit! Great video man! Just what I needed today 😎
The kit lens, 28-70mm 3.5 OSS, is going to be fine as a single startup lens when I get my A7III. I took the EXIF focal length data from many of my past favourites, especially the photos that brought me some income, applied the crop factor conversion to each and realized the essential shots will be covered by 28-70mm full frame. The compositions that fall outside that range will still be possible with my bridge camera and when the stars align I do get some real keepers.
I own the 17-28mm & 28-75mm Tamrons! Just for the versatility. I can do like anything I need with these two lenses. I would love to have the 24mm 1.4 & the Sony 85 1.8. I also want to complete my trinity of Tamron with that 70-180mm.
Soo much happiness watching this. I sooo hope you didn't have retakes dropping the lenses on the flip. Heart skipped a beat every time. I second the main shot and the teal and orange work good. And last I laughed hard... *sad disspaointment from Peter* "That was a weak one" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Awesome video man, I am using A7rii for photos and videos and I have these lenses, kit lens 24-240mm f3.5/6.3, Sony 85mm f1.8 I use it for portraits, and for videos, I am using sigma 18-35mm f1.8 with sigma adapter but it makes annoying noise on autofocus. After watching so many reviews now I am going to get Sony G Master 24mm f1.4, Tamron 24-70 f2.8, and Tamron 70-180 f2.8.
Back when I bought my first dslr (Canon XTi back in 2007), I remember thinking it was crazy that anyone would buy a lens that costs more than the camera itself. Little did I know...
Awesome video Peter !! Currently using an A7iii paired to a Tamron 17-28mm f2.8. Honestly love the tamron 17-28 ! For the price, you really can’t beat it ! Next lens in mind is that 24mm GM 🤤 hopefully picking one up here soon !
Geez...I think going forward I'm gonna have start making sure I'm not drinking anything while I watch your vids lol. Man Peter you crack me up! 🤣 Love the vid!👍😁
Currently only have the Sigma 24-70 2.8. Got it to have an all-around versatile lens to start with. Thinking of getting their 85 1.4 and the 24mm GM and just being set for awhile
The lenses I use for my Sony a7iii are 20mm tamron 2.8, 35 sigma 1.4, and 85 Sony 1.8. I honestly noticed that I could cover everything I needed with these honestly. Eventually I’ll get the tamron 70-180, but for now I’m covered pretty good with my lenses 🤘
My list in this order: 24/1.4 GM 15/4 Voigtlander 55/1.8 Sony/Zeiss FF + APSC body for less lens switch and get 35mm and 85mm from the lenses above. Does all the landscape and street I want
I totally agree with your choices as I have virtually the same kit except that I have the Tamron 17- 28 and the Sony 85 1.8 ( not the Batis.) Will definitely be looking forward to your review of the new Tamron telephoto as I also have the Sony 70-200 f4 and am thinking of switching it.
So far I got the Sigma 85mm 1.4 art, Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 art, Sigma 70mm 2.8 macro art and I have been waiting for a year for Sigma to come out with a 70-200 lens because I keep hearing rumors. I have always loved the Sigma Art series because they feel like the Sony G Masters but at a price just a little bit higher than Tamron. If ever I am stuck buying something else got that focal length would you suggest the Tamron 70-180 or the Sony 70-200 f4 if I am planning to do weddings events in the future?
@@Quebec2Arizona Check out Sigma's Sports segment. ;) (Edit: Remembered EF and Nikon mount only. But there are good adapters for EF mount at least. ) Reason for mentioning EF mount is the spectacular Canon and SIGMA 70-200 2.8 lenses. Personally I see nothing wrong with the Sony 70-200 F4 OSS for wedding use. I would just prefer faster glass. But it is what it is. Got my Sony glass brand new for half price.
My current kit looks like this Sony A7 III Tamron 17-28 Sony 70-200f4 Sony 55 1.8 Buuuut I wanna change it up because now are all lenses available for a perfect set up Tamron 17-28 (Landscape professional work, long distance hiking) Sony 24-105 (landscape, professional work, long distance hiking) Sigma 100-400 (landscape and wildlife (maybe on a aps c body at a later date)) Tamron 70-180 (Professional Work) Sony 55 1.8 (Professional Work) Sony 20 1.8 (Astro) That's my absolute dream kit with not much overlap and for a unreasonable price
I use the 55mm 1.8 that's sharp, light weight and reasonably fast and the G-master 85mm 1.4 that's a bit heavy but plenty fast. Next lens will be the 100 2.8 G-master. I don't use zoom lenses at all because they are heavy and slow.
Going to buy my 1st lens. Gonna be a Sigma 35 1.4 Art. I have a cropped sensor camera so f2.8 will not give as good result as it gives on full-frame. Sigma 18-35 1.8 was my 1st option, but it cropped sensor only so if I will decide to upgrade to full-frame I will not be able to use it. So I decided to go with the prime lens because it is cheaper than a zoom, and 35 mm because it will give me 50 mm look on a cropped sensor which is versatile, and on Full Frame, it will give 35 mm which also I really like.
It could be interesting to see if you have an opinion about APC lenses as well, those for sure are more affordable. I'm using canon crop sensor camera - eos m6 mark 2 my 3 top lenses are: 10-18mm f4,5-5,6 - vlog lens. Aperture sucks but all faster lenses have noisy autofocus 1 mm f1,4 - photo/vlog lens. A bit too tight for a vlog, but fast 18-35mm f,18 - my go-to photo/b roll lens
Love your stuff!!! I have the 24-105 G for my walk around multi-purpose lens if I only want to bring one. If I'm bringing more, I like the 16-35 F/4, 85 1.8, and I'd like to get a telephoto to round off a 3 lens kit if I want to bring a bunch of gear. For video the crop mode on a7 cameras is great, I can use my 16-35 as a ~50mm too! I just don't find myself really needing a mid range zoom if I'm already carrying the wide angle and a portrait prime. 70-300 tamron, sony, or 70-200 sony vs 70-180 Tamron. Hmmmm....
Thanks for showing your HOLY TRINITY lenses. Loved it. If I were to pick for me, First I need the system to put them to HaHa. RF 85mm 1.2 RF 15-35mm 2.8 RF 100mm macro (coming soon) Yeeeaaahhhh CANON, Take my money... give me those high bitrate cameras.

Legit 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Pete, can you talk about lighting? As it is the most underrated thing. My A7iii footage looks crappy without any pro lights.
Yeah, thumbs up to push up the theme!

Personally I’d go for the tamron 17-28 f2.8, sigma 24-70 2.8 and the Sony 85mm 1.8.
That's a very good combination. Should add tamron 70-180 2.8

The legendery canon 50mm f1.8
I bough both the 24 GM and 85 ZB on your recommendation. Also just bought a Sirui Anamorphic for my A7iii. Super excited

Well Peter, first I would have to actually get a kit, right now the channel is filmed on GoPro's and iPhones. Love the look you get with Gmaster.
Definitely keep this as your main setup and move around to the other stations for some variety!
for our youtube videos we use sigma 16-35 f1.8 and fuji 16mm f1.4 most of the time. Then mix in 56mm f1.2 and 80mm f2.8 for macro.
Thanks for sharing! I have the new Sony 20mm f1.8 on my A7III and it never leaves the body, such a versatile lens
That Tamron 70-180mm F2.8 is surprisingly good! Like really really good!

With the Sony A7III I have 3 lenses: the wonderful Sony 24-105 f4 the Sony 85 f1.8, and the Sony 70-350 f4.5-6.3 which is incredibly very very sharp!
My list in this order:
24/1.4 GM
15/4 Voigtlander
55/1.8 Sony/Zeiss
FF + APSC body for less lens switch and get 35mm and 85mm from the lenses above.
Does all the landscape and street I want
I am following you for a longer time and complements on how you grow the channel and give it a swedish flavor! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks so much Pete!!! Love this channel so much! Great content!!!!
Your so cool!!!!!!
I really like the main angle! Def keep it
I totally agree with your choices as I have virtually the same kit except that I have the Tamron 17- 28 and the Sony 85 1.8 ( not the Batis.) Will definitely be looking forward to your review of the new Tamron telephoto as I also have the Sony 70-200 f4 and am thinking of switching it.
Your review of the 24 Gmaster was the vid that made me subscribe to your channel.
The three choices for me will be my Sigma 14-24 2.8 Art, Sigma 24-70 2.8 Art and the Sony 70-200 f4 OSS
@@Quebec2Arizona Check out Sigma's Sports segment. ;)
(Edit: Remembered EF and Nikon mount only.
Got my Sony glass brand new for half price.
your video has always inspired me to learn b-roll
I thought to take the 24mm and now I am sure I gonna buy it soon ,thank you for your advice 😉.
Keep going you good work .
that was the video i have been waiting for thank you.
I love it when you talk all gibberish haha! The Sigma 18-35 f1.8 is my all-time favourite!
Dope tips! Those are my go to’s as well 🤯
Zeiss Batis 18mm, 24-105mm G and the 100-400mm GM... All share 77mm filter thread..
My current kit looks like this
Sony A7 III
Tamron 17-28
Sony 70-200f4
Sony 55 1.8
Buuuut I wanna change it up because now are all lenses available for a perfect set up
Tamron 17-28 (Landscape professional work, long distance hiking)
Sony 24-105 (landscape, professional work, long distance hiking)
Sigma 100-400 (landscape and wildlife (maybe on a aps c body at a later date))
Tamron 70-180 (Professional Work)
Sony 55 1.8 (Professional Work)
Sony 20 1.8 (Astro)
That's my absolute dream kit with not much overlap and for a unreasonable price
Awesome bro❤❤
Your video inspire me to try this☺☺☺
Tnx☺☺
Carry on❤❤
My two must have is 24 and 85mm ✊🏻
2 lens : 16-35 GM, 70-200 GM, the only missing focal length is 50mm which I hardly shoot on. And if I want more, I can go super 35 mode
It could be interesting to see if you have an opinion about APC lenses as well, those for sure are more affordable.
I'm using canon crop sensor camera - eos m6 mark 2 my 3 top lenses are:
10-18mm f4,5-5,6 - vlog lens. Aperture sucks but all faster lenses have noisy autofocus
1 mm f1,4 - photo/vlog lens. A bit too tight for a vlog, but fast
18-35mm f,18 - my go-to photo/b roll lens
Hmmmm....
Okay I don't have a camera but thank you coz I need this information in future😉
Thanks for sharing always wondered what you shoot with.
Yeah I've been waiting for this video
My setup, sony a7r 3, sony 85mm f1.8, 24-105 f4 and canon ef 50mm with adapter. I would like to buy new 28-200 Tamron.
Peter, love watching your content 💪🏻 I’m looking to get A7III and wondering what would you recommend for vloging OSS lens or rely on IBIS?
Thanks for showing your HOLY TRINITY lenses. Loved it.
If I were to pick for me, First I need the system to put them to HaHa.
RF 85mm 1.2
