    I was using the a5100 with kit lens and Sigma 16mm f1.4 and also a yongnuo 50mm f1.8 with andoer adapter (super slow and inaccurate auto focus). I was contemplating to buy the a7iii and use the current lens in apsc crop mode. Later, i changed my mind and bought the a6400 + sony sel 35mm f1.8 + sigma 56mm f1.4 which cost me 200usd less than an a7iii body only. And any adapted lens auto focus works great with the a6400.

  • @goraidersndodgers
    @goraidersndodgers 5 лет назад +10

    Bought the a5100 for my wife a few months ago thinking she could use my 24-240 lens on it since she likes super zooms and the flip screen was perfect for taking selfies while we're on vacation. But that 24-240 felt like it was going to break the mount on that camera. So I was looking for a smaller lens and decided on the 18-135mm sony lens. Well that lens is $600! Yada yada yada..."my wife" has a new a6400 with the 18-135mm. Just picked it up last night but it's well worth the price just in body construction alone. And with the animal eye autofocus, my little Teddy is going to have some killer pics without being focused in on his wet lil nose.

    I'm new to photography and am looking to mainly get into shooting food and landscape (on hikes). Between these two I think the a6400 is definitely more my speed. Is it worth considering other options? I've been drawn to Sony mainly because of their mounting system which I've heard is used across all their cameras. That just seems like the future proof option if I choose to upgrade to a full frame in the future. Are there any other cameras you think could beat the a6400 at a similar price point for my use cases?

      Hi. "Better" is always a touchy word for me. Sure, there are a lot of cameras that are better than the a7iii, but are they better for you? First, let's look at it this way - are you set on using a full frame camera? Just to understand, why not use the a6400 and then spend the 1100 on lenses?

    • @LionStreetTM
      @LionStreetTM 5 лет назад +1

      @@TechGearTalk The thing is, I don't understand the technicalities of cameras and recording. I would just want a good camera that records video really well for sport stuff and still-stuff like recording myself playing the piano (preferably out-of-the-box). Also, I wouldn't be taking any pictures with it so that's another factor. Also, $2,000 is my budget.

      If your budget is 2K then the a7iii is out of the question because you'll need to spend more money on lens/es and accessories. The a6400 is a good option (look at sigma lenses). If you want a camera that is easier to use, here is another option: ruclips.net/video/3Dh2cqok6_o/видео.html

    Thanks for your very interesting videos. There are always very useful.
    I would like to address quite a specific question I am having a hard time finding an answer to online.
    I was getting quite excited about buying the a7iii but I have been really sad to discover that it is not possible to tap-focus using the application. As a matter of fact I suffer muscular dystrophy and, as I can't hold the camera in my hands, I completely need to be able to focus remotely. Even if it does not work as good as I would like to, I can focus and shoot with my Canon 760D using the app. That is sad because it really seems to be a minor issue compared to what the camera as to offer but it is definitely crucial to me.
    On the other hand, it seems that tap focusing using the app is possible (it might have something to do with the touchscreen options of this camera). Could you tell me more about that as I have seen that you have been playing around with the app a bit? I also heard about the Bluetooth remote control that seems to work quite well with the a7iii. Would that be an option? I guess it would be a bit tricky to manage focus modes in order to succeed to produce the image I want (I often like to put the on-focus object/subject on the sides of my pictures). Even if my main concern is image quality and the ability to shoot outstanding portraits this little difference could make me change my mind and decide for the A6400 over the a7iii . Thanks in advance for your help pal!
    (Of course, anyone having information to give about that specific issue is more than welcome to contribute!)

    Good review. One option I’m considering is the a6400 and Sony 70-350 combo (can’t afford full frame zooms). Will the lens OSS (not interested or needing IBIS for video) control image shake when using super telephoto enough to take a sharp photo without sending shutter rates and ISO numbers into serious noise country with the a6400 ? Or would I be better off with Sony a7 iii and grow over time with lens as I go ? Thanks. I considered the RX 10 IV also but noise with the 1 inch sensor seems to limit photos to internet image quality only . 👍😊

    Great video. Unfortunatley I still don't know which one to buy. I like the flip up screen on the a6400 but I prefer the sensor in the a7 iii. I definately want 4k and these are two of my top options along with the Fuji XT-3 and the Nikon Z6. I think I've definatley eliminated the Nikon for having only one XQD card. It 's a really hard choice, all of these cameras look fantastic. Have you tried the hack on the a7 iii to have a flip up screen? (I mean the piece you can print using a 3D printer).

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 лет назад +1

      Those are all good choices for sure. Tell me more about the Z6 XQD card issue - I haven't looked at that camera yet.
      I have not tried the 3D print flip up piece... but I will tell you the X-T3 is probably my favorite mirrorless camera right now (other than the controls).

    • @FutureVegan
      @FutureVegan 5 лет назад

      @@TechGearTalk thanks for your reply! The issue with the Nikon Z6 is that it only has one card slot and this is an XQD card. According to most experts this type of card is going to get obsolete. CFexpress and SD UHS-III will be the new standards (and also faster than XQD). On top of this XQD are hard to find and very expensive. So. even though I own 2 Nikon lenses I believe the Sony a6400, Sony A7 III and XT-3 are better options. IMO a7 III > XT-3 > a6400 in terms of image quality. From all the reviews I've seen a6400 > a7 III > XT-3 in terms of user experience (how much does the user need to fiddle with the cameras). Then the XT-3 has more video options including 4K 60f.
      I'm mostly going to use the camera indoors with a tripod and I use an external sound recorder. However, I was thinking of doing some vlogging every now and then. I know for this the a6400 would be ideal, but for the indoor scenario probably the other options are better. For a better image and better bokeh the a7 III is better. And then you have the XT-3 with all its options...It is a hard call for me.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 лет назад +2

      It's a hard call and an easy call at the same time. The hard part is that you have 3 good options, but the easy part is that you have 3 good options 😂
      I would prioritize what you're going to do most of the time. If you think you want the image quality/shallow depth of field of the a7iii, and most of the time you're on a tripod, I would prioritize that over the "some vlogging every now and then"
      What do you think?

    I shoot downhill and enduro mountain bike races in the heavily wooded/tree covered woods of New England with a Canon 7d Mk II / 70-200 2.8 lens and a Canon 70d with the same lens and I find it very difficult to get super sharp images of the riders coming at me at speeds of 20-30+ mph. I'm dying to try the Sony A7 III but since the 7D and 70d are both crop sensors, maybe the new Sony A6600 would be a good choice as opposed to the A7 III. Do you have any idea if either camera would focus better than my Canon's? And would they focus better with my Canon lenses and the Sigma adapter? Or do I need to buy Sony glass (their 70-200 2.8 is something crazy like $2500)? Thanks!

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 лет назад

      Interesting question. So first FF would give you much less zoom the aps-c. So right now, with the 200 you’re getting a 350mm equivalent field of view. That’s something else to consider. What shutter speeds are your shooting at. Are the shots out of focus or are you getting motion blur?
      Also, for best results, you’ll want Sony lenses, or even sigma lenses for Sony - rather than an adapter.

    • @MTBIKEXC
      @MTBIKEXC 5 лет назад

      @@TechGearTalk I try to shoot at 1/1000 or faster but need to use a pretty high ISO usually (in the woods) to do so. I don't know if I can post links here but here's an example: topshots.smugmug.com/2019/2019-Maxxis-ESC-Intense-DH-Round-8-at-Plattekill-NY/i-JXNG226/A (ISO 3200, f2.7, 115mm, 1/1600) I don't know if you can zoom in but it looks like crap. This shot is better: topshots.smugmug.com/2019/2019-Maxxis-ESC-Intense-DH-Round-8-at-Plattekill-NY/i-z69LvH5/A (same settings, both pics shot in the rain BTW). I have much better luck in brighter conditions like this picture: topshots.smugmug.com/2019/2019-Maxxis-ESC-Intense-DH-Round-7-Mountain-Creek-NJ/i-NVVtt5F/A (ISO 1000, 105 mm, f3.5, 1/2500). To me - I don't see motion blur (but not sure I'd recognize it), I'm assuming focus isn't good.
