All the interior of my 2012 Arima SeaLegend 22 HT is made with Starlite, where they machined/cut it, its now getting mildew/mold and those dark spots that you’ve shown. Not Arima’s finest moments in the choice and I believe the 25% weight difference between regular and lite in the areas isn’t worth the ‘angst’ shown by most Arima owners. Those areas that are really getting under my skin, I’m replacing/machining them to match with regular Starboard as my budget allows... Having said that, I LOVE the product, its easy workability, and durability... Several friends have (after seeing my boat) changed out their boats from plywood and are also just as happy with King Starboard.
I don't think that is mold as hdpe won't mold and this stuff is also sold in home depot btw same material as cutting boards are madebof and hockey wall boards puckboard as called up north and etc. You can use a heat gun w this stuff to reshape it and can seal all those holes I'd give it a try on a spot underneath where hidden but ya literally heat them together when welding 2 pieces of hdpe together is dang near indestructible heat gun and a buddy knife should fix your issue sand the dirt out first hope it helps. Look up hdpe welding cheers
Yes it can using a heat gun you can reshape HDPE and roll it or use a puddy knife go slow till you find that melting point so you don't get it too hot. But you heat and melt HDPE together when making panels join together.
Would I be able to replace failed decking with starboard, and if so, how would you recommend sealing the seams together to prevent water intrusion into the stringer areas?
Nothing really bonds to it so butyl tape and compression via theough bolting is all you can do....I've heard people have welded it though to mixed results
Hey there Kris! Unfortunately, we would not recommend using this material as a hardtop for a boat due to it being too flexible and cellular edge holding dirt. Great question though! Let us know if you have any more :)
Hey there Tony! We use staples in both materials, but we use pneumatic staple guns to drive the staples because of the density of the board. Please let us know if you have any other questions :)
@@seanmorgan2678 The strength, or stiffness, will probably not be much different. While the Starlite is foamed on the inside, the outer surfaces are solid. The stiffness is a function of the outside surfaces and the distance, or thickness, between them. If you were to span two bricks on a table, say two feet apart with a piece of Starlite. Place a weight in the center and measure deflection. Then do the same with Starboard and it will be almost the same. The reason being the surfaces are in compression (the top surface) and the other is in tension (the bottom surface). These surfaces are where the majority of the strength is. The material in between has very little to do except keep the two outer surfaces some distance apart and connected. So, it doesn't matter (much) if the material in the center is solid or foamed. Imagine an "I" beam. It has two thick profiles separated by a thin web. All the strength are in the top and bottom profiles. The web just connects the two and keeps them some distance apart. By the way, this distance (or thickness) has a huge affect on the stiffness. Make sense?

Ok this is sold in home depot and it is not called star board that is a company name same as xps has different colors all same xps well HDPE called puckboard at homedepot. Most cutting noards are made from same materials as well. Welding is actually using a powerful heat gun about $40 online and can be reformed if its ugly cause the person has ko clue how to weld this stuff if so use a heat gun again and a roller it will be smooth as you want it. Weld at a 90 degree and try to break it almost impossible to break but id like to see that test. These smaller pieces are all over the place just google what things are made from hdpe. Did you onow you can make molds by melting bottle caps down into goo the shape it let cure RUclips that is mind-blowing how easy this is to work with. I should have a channel as well. 2. The only eay to sesl those air holesbis to just SIMPLY use a heat gun and a puddy knife.

Can I use starboard to mount my trolling motor? It will be hanging off the boat for appropriate clearance.
Just less dense
I like HD plastics because of their denstity but to each their own
Can the starlight edge get treated to seal the edge?
Use a heat gun will melt it as they do when glued together
King’s Starlite cut edges that show the blown holes, can they be smoothed out by the application of heat?
Hey Louis, give our customer service team a call at 866-633-7961 so they can chat with you about this :)
Yes dump gasoline on it and light a fucking match Buy insurance first.

Don't bother sealing the fucking water goes through this fucking material
Nothing really bonds to it so butyl tape and compression via theough bolting is all you can do....I've heard people have welded it though to mixed results
How much is a sheet of this star board
Got any kids you don't like?
Could you use this as a hardtop for a boat?

Fuck No
@@BoatOutfittersthe reg starboard 3/4" or thicker works GREAT though but y0u gotta through bolt it
How does Starboard & Starlite handle staples?
Hey there Tony! We use staples in both materials, but we use pneumatic staple guns to drive the staples because of the density of the board. Please let us know if you have any other questions :)
They blow right through breaking chunks of material off Fucking Junkl
Why use staples if your tring to join them use a heat gun or HDPE weld is like using a soldering iron.
Why not just gel coat the edges? I will do a test piece and add a comment with updates
Better to use epoxy but doesn't bond
Because nothing bonds to it.
Just use a heat gun.
they sould make a filler that is compatible with Star Light, so the pours in the edges go away.
That would be a really great idea! :)
@@BoatOutfitters Or a heated roller "iron" may seal it
does the the star lite maintain the same strength as star board or is it 25 percent weaker?

MOLD GROWS ON THE EDGES and fills in the fucking holes
is it flammable

King starboard is facing a multi million dollar lawsuit due to an inferior fucking product
Yeah? Where? Evidence? Or can you just not afford it?
