What am I Always Building Stuff Out Of?

- Roundabout Watercrafts orders hatches, cut to size for their boats, from 4x8 sheets. What is delivered is mostly usable. But all the scraps leftover from the sheet get sent here as well.
That's where I come in!
I have made a ton of stuff from the leftovers. And along the way, I fell in love with this wonderful material. It's just perfect for the marine environment and kayak tinkerings.
And as chance would have it, someone at King Plastic, the manufacturer of King Starboard, noticed me having fun with their products. They then reached out and invited me to Sarasota for a tour of their place and offered a sheet or two to me for free. I requested a new cutting board and gladly accepted to come pick it up and get a tour of their factory.
The Operations Manager, Charlie who is also the owner's son, was super cool and down to Earth. If you like me, you'd love this guy.
Anyway, this all seemed perfect since I have been using their products for so long now, it's clearly something I was happy to promote. And people had been asking about what it was that I had been using to make DIY transoms for my paddle craft.
So there it is.
King Starboard is it's name.
And a bit of advice I got from Charlie, if you were interested in buying Starboard, is to use their website to find one of their local dealers, since the stuff is expensive to begin with, paying second and third hand distributors would drive the price up for customers.
You can find out 'where to buy' and also just look at some of their project gallery pics for your own inspiration, at their website;

Got my Bob Ross fix, I'm good and relaxed now. Thanks Marty! Jim.
You are truly the everyman. A normal humble guy with unique talents and a love for fishing and beer. Your following is well deserved.
Thanks for the vid..great info..much love from NC.
Cool projects, but that stuff is crazy expensive for most of us!
It is a lot cheaper than building out of aluminum and welding. A lot cheaper. It's incredibly easy to work with. You don't need any special tools. It's worth every penny when fabricating one-off stuff for boats.
Great stuff. Very informative. I look forward to seeing new videos.
Marty, thank you for continuing to make really great and innovation projects! Years later, I continue to be enthralled by your ingenuity and tenacity. I need to buy some King Starboard for some of my projects.
Love That Fillet Table Buddy!!
This is my favorite channel, I've been a subscriber ever since your video rainy day fishing and fishing with greenbacks.
Enjoy your videos, thanks for helping a Ole guy pass the time. Santa Ken
Great video. Good info. Thanks a bunch!!!
Great stuff Marty
Looking forward to this
Super cool stuff.
Love the stuff, I have replaced all the hatches and the swim platform on my boat with the anti-skid
Enjoy watching your videos😎👍
I grew up on boats, always using starboard for the mods... it was always so super expensive but you can do anything with it!
that’s a nice product and those lures 👍👍!
awesome place you have there!
Awesome man! You are definitely the O.G. of DIY and so creative as well. Could easily sell many ideas from your designs.
Marty: Master of Starboard!
Another great video
your videos are always fun
Dude this is awesome!!!!!!!
Love your vids , keep up the good work!
A true SuperStar having fun with starboard.
Nice stuff. Azek makes some pvc sheets that I have used for similar projects. Thanks for sharing
Nice seems fun
I love what you do
Cool dude.
Love your vedios.been watching since poor man's red kayak build.you have a great lifestyle good luck .from Tony australia
Hey Marty, ever thought about doing catch and cook/overnighters on some of the little beaches around you?? Would love to see some of the neat little areas you've found!
nice board
wow, 3 videos in 1 week!! Is this the new norm? I hope so
Star Board is amazin stuff...A friend of mine works with it as well as plexi glass. They make cutting boards for restaurants, bait lids, and they even have a marine grade plexi glass and replace old windshields in boats....They have contracts with the city of Hillsborough in Tampa for all of their marine fleet police boats.
I used starboard back in the 90's, been around a long time.
thanks man, been looking at something to cut and replace my nasty old wood hatches with carpet on them. this is gonna be perfect for my boat project
Cool channel Marty, I enjoy watching your videos
Hi from the UK Marty! Thanks for the video. I think the first video of yours that got me subscribed was the outboard transom for the Kayak, and I have been curious about this Starboard stuff ever since. Nice to know more about it - I just wish this and some of the other things you have used/mentioned were available here in the UK. Tight lines mate!
"Starboard" is High Density Poly Ethylene sheets (HDPE) the stuff your milk jugs are made of. I'm pretty sure there's some around in your country under a different name...
Great Product. Perfect for Marine Applications, PS, enjoy your channel‼️👍🛥🐠🚣🏼♀️ Vinny 🇺🇸
As always a great vid. I seen you were wearing your Zoffinger shirt in the vid. I would like to say thanks again for the one I got from you at Icast.
Nice shelves and hooks , very very expensive but nice.
Thanks
Hi i m from pakistan working here in saudi arabia and i love fishing since 6 or 7 months and got more knowledge about fishing through different videos and anglers wow.
This is what made Marty famous his creativity and such a nice location
You seem like an awesome dude. I wish you lived in my neighborhood.
I carve all kinds of stuff from that material its pretty versatile
Dang even the spiders Love it =) cool stuff man~
You're still a freaking genius. I want to be you when I grow up. LOL
Looks like great stuff. Would love to get my hands on some. Just a pity it's so expensive. $400 for a 6mm thick sheet compared to $75 for the same thickness sheet of marine plywood here in New Zealand.
Home depot sells this in 3'x5' sheets.. Its a little pricey but for something that will never rot its well worth the price. I used to when i replaced the decks in my bass boat. Easy to work with and no special tools needed.
I live where Kings is. That’s awesome
That is some great stuff, although a little expensive, will last forever...
The Starboard Artist
Like your Rockwell jaw horse! I don't have a work bench and that thing saves me. Folds also. I've got the knockoff. Cheers! Starboard rocks, wish it were less $.
starboard is great.
Im going to look into star board.ty
You make some the best DIY videos ever here on youtube. I love the fishing side as well and hope to see a lot more videos soon. Are you planning a new boating trip in the big boat soon?
Cold beer on ICE 👌
Man, I'm looking at renovating my 30 yr old boat, found your vids, was wondering what that stuff is, so I can use it in place of the wood for seats and other vinyl wrapped surfaces... even with the price of lumber now, holy smokes this stuff is pricey... You'd think China would have a copy for 30 bucks a sheet at harbor freight by now...
You have a great imagination
Sos grossooo cuantas ideas....soy el chaki de BsAs ARGENTINA ABRASO FUERTE LOKOOO
You’re just one of those guys who can naturally find exactly where two screws holes should go, how far apart, and how to make them even with eyeballing or a simple tape measure. Envious. I can barely get this stuff right with angles and rules 😂.
New challenge..
Make an entire boat out of starboard and foam!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Pls build a universal transom for all kayaks. This will be a game changer for anglers.
Stuff looks awesome. You did a great job on creating a lot of cool custom projects. It's got to be some of the most expensive plastic on the market? I was all in until I priced a piece for my needs 11"x22" $53.00 (not even including shipping)! Whoa, looks like I'm far too poor for a piece of good ol' Starboard.
You have a lot of stuff regarding fishing that is your craze you love fishing a lot. I also love fishing a lot ang my friends are sick of me especially fishing at night beach or any edge of see.
👏
I just resurfaced the hallway wall with a Thin Layer of Plastic Sheeting - - - My StepMom's PowerChair goes right through Sheetrock but barely gouges this stuff - $aving me a fortune in time & materials... GooD Stuff Marty, LJR-III Ormond Beach
I just saw 4 empty cans of budlight in your bin.. lol
made a nice gauge panel for my center console amongst other things
Now I want to get some to make new thwarts for my canoe. I don't need to but I want to lol.
Might have to wait on it though since it's around $85 for the 2 pieces I'd need.
All of those small projects are ingenious! Keep them coming!
Nice commerical
Marty, Todd is going to filet you and toss you over messing with all that starboard.😂😂😂
Marty, I love your videos! However you have never paid for Starboard before. If a boat manufacturer buys in bulk its not bad. But run down and buy a small sheet and it cost 80 times more than wood. I would make all kinds of stuff if I got it from your source!
The lure s are cool this and epoxy lures should work
This material appears to be HDPE plastic- Large sheets are available at Home Depo, and smaller sheets are cutting boards from Walmart-- Have only seen white...
Have you consider making trolling mounts and etc. I know people would buy from you. I definitely would be one of your top customers.
Would love to have that much excess laying around!
Marty great talent you have.
I need a piece of starboard for my fish tank so I can have a sandless bottom!
You did not mention or talk much about whether it can be glued? I have been using expanded PVC purchased at Home Depot and it glues really well with PVC glue. Thanks for the great video. You have great ideas!
Hey Marty, new project or challenge..You should make a kayak from starboard. I mean you've made everything else.
Starboard is the only way to go if your using it near saltwater
It looks like HDPE Is it a 2 on the recycling symbol? I went to the web site it is LDPE just like HDPE but melts at a lower temp! Very cool all you need is a toaster oven to melt HDPE so you can melt this even easier! Cool
HDPE is a thermoplastic, so it's also weldable.
Love your videos, Marty, but really miss your fishing videos.
Take a drink every time he says star board
Question?
Do you have a video on the transom support system you built for the pelican bass raider ?
First view like and comment to this great video!
Hola capoooo
Hi Marty- please let us know how to patch holes in polyethylene as you did when motorizing your kayak with a 5 hp motor. Thanks in advance!
He’s a regular Dr. Seuss. Would wood lol
Do you have any tips on glueing it together? Or gluing starboard to HDPE kayaks or pedal boards?
Is it strong enough to replace a wood transom on a 14 foot boat with a 9.9 outboard... or am I better using marine grade plywood and resin coating it?
Hi mate can you recommend an adhesive that will stick to this , I’ve used sika 291 but am not really confident on the joint unless it’s screwed as well
I would love to get some of that starboard for projects, but it's not readily available around here... :-(
What is the thickness of the starboard on the roundabout hatches? I'm trying to determine what to use for my hatches. Thanks, love your vids!
$266.00 For 4x8x.5". Whew, that is a lot Marty.
Home Depo was/is selling 4' x 8' sheets of 1/2" HDPE- for $75 last time i looked. You can also buy smaller cutting boards at Walmart for $12.99
Your work looks great. How do you get smooth edges with the starboard? No matter what I do, I can't seem to get decent edges.
