- Updates on my cabin workshops. Setting up my new off grid homestead for a self sufficient lifestyle. I started this journey by building a tiny cabin in the woods that I used as a hunting camp. Now that the addition is put on, I'm getting my workshops in place so that I can work from home and enjoy a simple life of self sustainability.

MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
Video of icebox:

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

I love your passion and motivation. I was born and currently live in Florida but my Dad's family is from upstate New York and as a result I've spent a lot of time in the southern Adirondacks. I have a lot of dreams about living like this. My friends and family here ridicule me for wanting such a lifestyle but when I'm in the mountains I feel alive, I'm truly free.. Breathing clean air, watching the fireflies at night, admiring the stars, hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening... All the things I love but can't do here in my deed restricted neighborhood surrounded by urban sprawl, smog and bumper to bumper traffic.. Someday soon I hope I'll get there.. Thanks for the videos.
+Mark C. Follow your heart my friend. Cheers.
Frankie is such a good natured dog. Can't wait to see the videos on the transformation of the new building. Happy to see things are falling into place for you. Good luck on the buck !
+Maureen Haggerty Little by little it's all coming together. Thanks for commenting.
The procedure went well. Thank you for your concern :-)
J.C. I gotta say, watching your videos really motivates me to follow my dreams and do what I love, spend time with the people I love...Why would I do anything else other than what makes me happy...Life is too short to be doing things you hate...Keep up the great work buddy...
+13prevail People do what they hate all their lives to chase money. Money they spend on shit while their dreams remain unfulfilled. Do what you love man... and make a business out it so all your toys are tax deductible :-)))
14x24 is the size of the building I had delivered on my 20acres for my retirement home. I did not elect to get their windows because I wanted better quality then they offered. Thanks for another great video, you have no idea how much your videos help me get away from the things I'm dealing with. It allows me a nice mental escape, thank you.
JC, great to see things moving along, and as always, I enjoy seeing you and Frankie in your updates. May God continue to bless your plans and direction He has laid out. -Todd
great philosophy in life. I told my kids when they was young find something you love to do and figure out how to make a living doing it
JC, it's good to see such positive and constructive energy at work.
As always, your videos are at the top of the heap. In the beginning,
Frankie stole the show with those adorable eyes.
"May the force be with you my friend!"
Nothing more rewarding like a plan and a dream coming to fruition...best regards to you and Frankie

The Boss definitely knows how to live and enjoy life. I’m getting the wheels in motion to leave the “city” life and live more like the Boss. I’ve always wanted a simple lifestyle in the woods, just being in a cabin and chopping wood. God bless you and yours!

Really impressed with your progress! Its great to see an update. The building in front - you are a smart man!! The shop looks like a good setup too. For the extra cost of that little tin roof area, you certainly have some extra space that will be useful! Good luck with the deer! Enjoy the hunt and the butchering. Look forward to hearing from you again.
Now is the time. God bless you and Frankie.

Power to ya man! I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is such a positivity to your videos. It's wonderful. You don't get embroiled in politics or religion or any of that stuff, you keep it to more simple indivisible things. It's very much appreciated. In an era where people are so divided its very nice to see one of your videos pop up on my subscription list, because I know it's going to filled with positivity and forward momentum.
And since you mentioned bagging a white tail, how about you bust out that Spiedie Marinade recipe I sent ya a while back. I guarantee you wont be disappointed.
Looks like everything is moving along nicely!! Many blessings of good fortune in all of your endeavors! I really enjoy watching your channel and I just love Frankie! He looks like the ultimate friend and workman's assistant!!

Glad to see that you're feeling better. I'm anxious to see or hear more about your business. I used to own & run a restaurant.
Great vid...Thanks
It's good to see things are moving right along for you at the Backwoods Cabin. We just got a building, too. Now I will have a place to keep my gardening supplies and a section for starting seeds early next season. Hubby will have the other half for all his tools and I will have my front porch back. Yay! It has served him as his shop for the last couple of months and it was getting old. You did a really nice job with the work shop.
+Gardening With Puppies Certainly is nice to have space for things but too much space leads to too many things. sometimes :-o
thebossoftheswamp You've got that right. When we bring our things from storage, we are going to go through it all with a fine toothed comb. Less is best.
Good luck on the hunt and all the other projects. I will be watching for updates.
2 nice buildings you got there, look forward to see it come together.great stuff take care

All the best in this next chapter.Cheers!!
+Joshua Smith All the best to you too Josh. One buck down so far. Cheers :-)

Wow! Just wonderful! I'm so glad your dreams are taking place. Looks like have things in order. God Bless and Thanks for the video.
+CitySlicker Tony It's all coming together now Tony. Been well worth the effort. God Bless my friend :-)
Good job on seeing things through. JC you actually helped me put things in perspective recently. I've wanted a hunting cabin my whole life, along with many other wants, and may possibly have the opportunity after this year to buy a friend's place. I decided to quit wishing and do something about it by picking my side job back up and getting my finances in order so that if I have the chance I can jump on it. I'm truly happy in the woods and want to see my kids and perhaps their kids someday have a place to enjoy in the outdoors. Truly enjoy your videos, thank you sir.
+Stefan Schmidt Sounds like you've got a great plan in order. Good for you brother. Follow your heart :-)
I'm on the Whitetail thing to.Bur not so much when it's 72 Nov 4th. As always enjoyed you letting me into your life.God Bless.

+themanwiththecabin Thank you my friend. One dream after another :-)
The roof is perfect very attractive and original
Thank you
Great job on the workshop! Nice feeling when a plan comes together! Best of luck!
Nice to see you made dream happen....
Happy things are happening for you JC. Patience isn't always easy, but if we show a little things usually happen. I look forward to seeing how your work shed looks once you've finished it. Will you insulate it more? And with a freezor, laundry machine etc. what will it be? Anyway, great seeing your video, and looking forward to hearing more from you soon. Give all our love to Frankie.
JC - I think the ideas you presented on why it makes sense to have the building up by the road for your "business" (Some kind of food related venture??) makes COMPLETE sense to me. I've scanned the art prints, etc. from the site you forwarded and I think it is impressive. I imagine the "business" will also be so. I enjoy the fact that you follow 'THE MEAT TRAPPER" and just wanted to say that both of you are people that LOTS of younger folks need to listen to and think about the ideas / attitudes/ experience / skills / etc . you men discuss. I really like your art, but I just LOVE your videos! I look forward to all you publish. I was lucky that I worked at something for nearly 40 years that I enjoyed...and that made it possible for me to raise my kids "off the grid" even though I left our cabin in our woods here in Indiana every morning and worked for a VERY large Company all day. KEEP THEM COMING...I'D LOVE TO SHARE A BEER WITH YOU BEFORE I CHECK OUT!
+Nate McKenzie Thank you Nate. I'd tip a beer or two with you any time. Thanks for commenting.
Godspeed, my friend!
Thank you for the great update no doubt you are well on the way to catching you're dream . Many more to come no doubt.
+hm mahoney The list is getting smaller for sure. Cheers :-)
I love it when we "Live the Dream" I did some of that a while back, and like you, I'm finally ready to go the extra mile, to finish up on my "Living the Dream" too! I was quite shocked at how much I actually got done, when I took a very good look at my place. I also kept one of my properties separate from my cabin, and although I am not sure what I will do with that yet, single use or multiple, I'm sure when I move there, It will all fall into place. I have only 3 small jobs to finish before I can move in for good, but I am on my way too. It's SO GOOD to have a dream, and actually live it. So encouraging for me, and so many others. Thank you, Sheila
+Sheila6325 So nice to hear of others who follow their hearts and dreams. Thanks for sharing your success with me Sheila. Good for you my friend. :-)

for Frankie... food grade diatomaceous earth. It's good for parasites and skin irritation. You can sprinkle on his food and apply to his skin. Coconut oil is also good internally and on his skin. Lots of good uses for both of these products.
Thank you for the inspiration of living ones best life and dreams.
Hey Boss glad your dreams are on the way to reality for ya. Please keep the updates coming - I'm on a bit of a hiatus on my Granite State Project and your videos fill the void. Thanks Boss.

+Rob Baker I'm still coughing and hacking and my energy is down a bit but not feeling too bad aside from that. The weather's a bit too warm for hunting so I may hold off for a few days. We'll have to have a rendezvous one of these days. Looking forward to it.
