On my channel you will find videos pertaining to homesteading, gardening and living off the grid with fun DIY projects for self-reliance and SHTF emergency preparedness situations, with some campfire cooking and good old backwoods humor thrown in. Sharing knowledge and stories from over 30 years of living in the woods.

Again, we must be mere months apart in age. I spent July 3rd at my off grid cabin beating down the knee high grass and blowing fire hazard leaves away. Taking stock of unfinished tasks that got back burnered when the summer heat and high production at the sawmill I run take over. Same thoughts though, get the outdoor kitchen roofed over before fall rains, woodshed roof too. Indoor work will wait till weather makes it the only work to be done. Time to feed the soul, explore, clean fish, campfires, re tell old stories. They're the seeds of new memories! Pray our health stays well with minimal tune ups now and then! Live, Laugh and Love!!
Family first. ALWAYS!
The garage looks great. I'm glad you and your brother are taking time to enjoy life. The critters in the driveway are just fabulous. Keep us posted on your health Boss, we care, we really do. Lots of love and thanks.
Thank you Margaret. It's been good hanging out with my brother again.
Such a enjoyable surprise to turn phone on an Video from THE BOSS!!! Garage looks AWESOME!! Love ❤️ Love ❤️ your. neighbors !!! So glad you an Lori going to Stop and Smell. the Roses 🌹!!! At 77 you realize life goes by too fast!! Enjoy time with Family. an Friends!! As for MRI keep a good MINDSET 😇!!! Faith as a grain of Mustard Seed!! Will keep you guys in my Prayers !! Faith is always at the forefront my friend. Always pushing forward regardless of what they tell me. Life is what you make of it eh? :-))
God Bless.
Yall amaze me, your work is perfection! I wish there were thousands of men like you who know how to do things right. You and your wife are beyond the average couple! Everything looks perfect!
Thank you so much :-)
If you are turning 60 that means I have watched this channel for over 5 years. I LOVE watching you and hearing your wise advice.
Thanks Dave :-)
The dark brown will lighten up over time as you know, I think it looks great. I have been in the garage door Buisness for thirty plus years. If I was near you I would have fixed you up. Boss Man, I have also been with you and Franky from start. You keep on being your self and everything will be just fine. Love you, love what you do, and love what you stand for.
I agree life is very fragile. I lost my dad this Friday. Time spent with loved ones is time well spent. God bless J.C.
hey boss just want to wish you "good luck" with your medical issues coming up. you are soooo right ......life passes us by quickly!
Love the color of the garage with the green trim. I agree life is fragile and spending time with family is important. Hmm 60 isn't old you young whippersnapper 😃. Slow and steady wins the race.😜. You know I've never seen a Robins nest, barn swallows yes, see us old people can learn something new 😁. Wow love all the animals, those Tom's were awesome, you may have to put up a traffic light 😂.
Hugs to Frankie and Tildy. Praying it goes well with your test. Happy 4th of July and blessings to you and Lori. 😊🇺🇲
Those Toms put on a grand display for the trail cam :-))
My philosophy has always been, Never Go Straight, But Always Go Forward.
I used the metal trim idea, around the bottom of our shed, it keeps the rodents out
Its always better when you take life one day at a time.
Cheers!
Those are the best visitors except maybe those bears. I will say a prayer for a good MRI outcome. God bless you both!
Thank you for the update! Life is very precious. I pray that your MRI comes back with good results. 🙏🏼 God Bless!
I agree with everything you said, including painting corners same color as siding. It just looks nice. Have you ever heard a raccoon and bobcat square off. Dang, what a racket that makes.
Smart man ! Finished projects are the best! Love it And slowing down to enjoy life and family is very smart
At 75 I just don’t know where the months & years go. Each one is precious & it’s our good memories rather than our possessions that sustain us in the end. Blessings to you & your loved ones. Enjoy life to its fullest! Btw, I love your deer print hanging on my wall!
critters and foil wrap caused us to burst into laughter from the start of this video, thank you....we had our last dog die today and laughter doesn't come easy no matter how much you know it is coming....you are tonic, juanita mae
Busy Road Boss!!! Wow!
I think your plan sounds great. Life is too short.
You should be a spokesperson for bubble foil. Lol We bought it because of you and now even the robins are using it. Thank you we enjoy your videos. Be blessed
Love your videos! I totally agree with you about slowing down so you can get things done and really enjoy your time. I will be 78 years old in September and getting out in nature is my absolute most favorite thing to do. I hope your health stays good, for both of you!
We have a family friend whom my husband asked to go somewhere on a fun daytrip. The guy thought a minute but declined the trip. He explained he had a previous plan to take his brother fishing. He explained it was a bit of an ordeal as the brother was in poor health and in a mental decline. He added that the brother was several yrs older and had taken the younger brother fishing when he was barely out of diapers and a solo trip would have been much more fun! He said those trips were going to continue as long as they could load themselves in the boat.
That's a good mindset ;-)
The chocolate against the hunter green and white looks beautiful. Perfect colors. The driveway neighbors are entertaining, but wow those bears are huge! You both work so hard and Im so happy your slowing down. I have no doubt it will get done. I sure hope you’re health is ok. Enjoy the fishing and forest walks with your brother. Im sure he loves it too. Love you guys. God bless.
Thank you Jeanette. I'm busy setting up my "Bush Camp" in the woods. I feel like kid building a fort and loving it. Video to follow :-)
That garage 👌 job 👍 looks 👌 awesome 👌, I love your outlook on life God bless 🙏 you ,and your wife, and family 👪 family.
That was a healthy looking Whitetail doe JC. All indication of good hunting. :)
it's amazing that you have that much Wildlife on your property that's awesome I love your videos keep up the good work
Gday Boss. The building is looking fantastic. Loved watching the animals utilising the driveway you built for them🤣🤣.
I like your attitude towards life in general. Keep on keepin' on!
Thank you :-)
We fully understand what you mean we have built a shed and cabin in the last 2 years. We are offgrid and in our 60's as well. We milled everything from the property. And no one helped us either. We are proud of our accomplishments and love it here in the Tennessee woods. Good luck and enjoy yourselves.
good for you your positive attitude overcomes lots of obstacles and your plan makes great sense
It's good to hear that you're going to slow down the pace and enjoy life more. Time goes by SO fast that you've got to enjoy life and have fun while you can. 💜
PRAYERS, for good report with MRI the 15th, enjoy your time with your brother, time goes so fast, also hope he has a long retirement , again prayers from Tennessee .
Thank you :-)
Boss, the robins have learned so much from you too!! Bubble foil for their nest!! 😂 Your garage is well thought out making it a functional multipurpose space. Well done, it looks fantastic. 👏
Morning boss. Sitting on the porch of the cabin in the Chattahoochee Forest getting ready to enjoy your video.
Sounds great!
Bubble foil is a staple on the JC homestead with all haha. Moving along sow but steady is a good thing. The critters are always fun to see. I have cameras on my property as well and love to see what comes along next, Happy Independence day JC , Momma, and the fur kids. Get that brother on some vlogs having fun or helping work, family time on camera for the future vault. Enjoy bud
Agree with your philosophy, age soon 77,time really starts to move fast.ENJOY the remaining journey.Love your podcasts.
Awesome. Take more time with family. Love your videos. Healing on your health. You do everything right. Your attitude is everything n yours is spot on. God Bless
God Bless.
Looks great Boss.Your road looks like a well traveled game trail.God Bless.
You are both lovely human beings. Your work is exceptional and your passion for life is to be admired. 🌺

You do YOU boss and we will be here to view!! Whatever, whenever. All God's blessing to you Lori, Frankie, Tildy and your brother. Enjoy life NOW. Tomorrow isn't promised. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. The place looks great!!
You two have done an amazing job as always. 😊 I'm praying for total restoration and good news on the 15th. God bless you two! ❤️🇺🇸❤️
Boss, at the beginning, when you showed the foil in Robins nest, I smiled and thought, HMMMM even the birds follow The Boss!!!
I smiled over the foil too :-))
I believe the saying goes " your not out of the woods yet so clear the road as you go" love your projects .in fact I've used your plans for several projects of my own .Thank you both so much.
Beautiful! The paint/stain are perfect in the forest!
Hurray for Artisan'a garage door! 👌👏
Your new neighbors approve of your driveway! Loved the bubble foil in the Robin's nest!
Another winter on the mountain (with your ⛱️ greenhouse on cold winter days) to be able to move into a 100% finished new house, will be worth it!
Take care! 🖖
Great video with wise words and actions. Thank you for bringing us along to share your progress. Take care, enjoy your family time and good luck with the medical tests.🙏🏻👍🏻
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. May God bless all of you and bless you with good health & happiness
Hi Boss we will be praying for you! I’ve enjoyed your channel for many years now. You backwoods logic has helped me make some life changing decisions. For this I say “thank you”. I’m glad you are gonna enjoy life more, you’ve worked so hard building your dreams. Take care God bless you and your family. You are our off grid cabin build it yourself guru.
Glad all is going well with the new homestead. WOW that's a lot of critters.
I love seeing the trail cam videos.
Wonderful to hear from you.
So happy to hear that you, Are stopping and smelling the roses. You will enjoy the projects even more As you're taking one day at a time.
Blessings to you all
Blessings :-)
Sounds like a plan and you'll feel sooo much better with things finished and not hanging over your head.
Greetings from Poland we find that the wildlife use the forest roads regularly to get from a to b quickly.
Sorry to hear that you both had Covid, feel better and good luck with the MRI 🙏🙏
Hello J.C. and Lori! Everything in its time and place....and yes, it seems, (at least to me, anyway!) that 60 is the number where you realize that time has now become more important to use well.....so take time to savor those things you can still enjoy! I always like how you edit in your wildlife cam videos, and the music you picked is superb! It is the perfect medley to introduce your driveway critters!! As always, Thank You for taking the time to share your world with us! Take Care Always, and God Bless! ~Lou
Nice job Boss, You are a man who always needs a carpentry project to be happy. The place looks great.
Yep time waits for no man/or woman!! You two have earned your crowns many times over, not only in building but bin gardening also with outstanding results. ! You have always been prime example of accomplishments, sharing knowledge and the fantastic wildlife with viewers. THANK YOU!!!
Jim you are always entertaining, sure miss the pups, and love to you and Lori, God Bless Love, Katherine
I agree, things always look better with green😏 my favorite color , imagine that.
Green is the way to go :-)
Keep on keepin on Boss, no matter what the pace! 👍✌️😃🇺🇸
Prayers for you both. Especially on the 15th!
Hey JC! I like the brown color! But I may be a bit biased there! 🤣I support my local businesses as much as I can too. It just has to make financial sense but nothing like helping out my “neighbors”. I need to take your advise and slow down my projects too. I have far too many. But winter is always the kicker huh?! I have always thought that about the wild animals. Make a path and they will use it! Especially in winter! Fantastic video JC! 😁
At this point in life you must appreciate all the little things around you. A big part of that is family and friends.
In the immortal words of the amazing folk singer / songwriter Warren Zevon, "Enjoy Every Sandwich".
Well said :-)
The garage color combos is beautiful. You are a professional. Heavenly Father we call on you again to heal one of our brothers in Christ. Give him the strength needed in this battle. You deserve all the Glory Lord. We have Faith you will give 'The Boss' all the time needed here on Earth to recover from the disease he is faced with. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
Thank you Connie and many blessings to you.
Amen
It’s always a good idea to get unfinished projects done ✅
Excellent update video Boss, enjoy your time with your brother. You and Laurie slow down and smell the (roses) wild flowers 🌸.
Thanks 👍
The robin wanted to insulate it for her babies. I love the stain color.
Such a great video Jim! Take as much time as you feel necessary with your family and also Lori. Life is way to short. I’m only 52 and my back is waisted from doing HVAC work for years and other trade type jobs. I value my time with my wife now more than ever and my parents are in their 80’s and aren’t doing good, so I spent time with them about 3 times a week. I’m so glad I do that and even happier that I’m able to do that. Take care of yourself first. You’re followers will be willing to wait for any content that you put out.
Thank you Jeff. The cancer and covid and the dying forest has really made me re-evaluate life. You wouldn't believe what I'm up to now but you'll see it in a video sometime soon. God Bless :-)
@@thebossoftheswamp totally understand that. We all got covid too and amazingly all of us got through it without any seriously long side effects. I did lose my taste and smell for about a month and that was really tough and weird at the same time since I like to smoke my meats on my grill. But other than that it wasn’t all that bad. I knew my smoked meats tasted good and was told by others how good it was but truly couldn’t taste them myself. So bizarre but it was what it was. Now have most of my taste back but still have certain flavors that I can’t really taste. So weird. So sad about our forests. I see it here in Pennsylvania. I head north every other week to our get away cabin and it’s worse there than it is here in south central PA. The pine tress’s especially are being hit the hardest. So sad to see…
Great video and the building is really looking good. Might want to buy the rubber stall mats early and let the outgas outside. They seem to hold that smaell for a long time.
I love the color of the wood!
You know what… we always have a plan when we start our journeys and sometimes we change it up as we go along
and that’s OK.
You change the pace and sometimes the objectives and the goal
~ what’s important is that you do what is good for you, no explanations required 😊
Stay well!!
I look forward to updates
Everything that you both have accomplished so far is wonderful!
hey boss, it's the grumpy old fart from n.h. glad to hear from you again, hope it's not your health that's slowing you down. keep on plugging along, you're doing, and looking great. i'll do the world a favor and cut this short, all my best to you and mumma, and enjoy your brother's company, john
Thank you John and all the best :-)
As always good backcountry logic to smell the daisies along the way. Very wise love the look of the new building and the drivecam footage so good loved the turkeys too. Blessings to you both and the pups health and happiness💕💫
I hear ya about spending time with your brother. Life’s too short for just working. You never know how much time is left. You should do a video hanging with your brother, we haven’t seen him for a few years. Congratulations to his retirement. Building is looking great. I like the color combination.
Thank you Gary and you'll most likely see my brother in some videos in the future.
So glad your taking some time to enjoy your family. Life is short. Enjoy every moment with them. Love the way the new garage is coming out. Sweet job.
Like the new “Plan” less stress leads to greater success…..imho. The project looks great! Like the darker stain with the green trim 👍👏 Hope y’all have a FANtastic 4th 🇺🇸🫡 Rick
Thank you :-)
Love the channel, have been watching it for a while. Blood pressure always seems to drop! Thanks for the hard work involved in film/editing!
Another great video. New property shaping up nicely. Like your color choices on your shed. Animal videos was nice. Thanks Boss. Take care of yourself. Lori too :)
Your project is coming along nicely!!! It really looks good, but please take time to just lay back and enjoy the special moments!! You could be a brother by another mother to my husband! He hardly gets one project done and he is into another one!! He is just so driven! He also has to do things very well! He doesn't like things done in a shoddy manner! He has done and accomplished many projects for us that he had never done before, but when he got through with them he did an excellent job! I also have to tell you about what my husband and I saw out our kitchen window. We have two windows that butt up against the corner. We saw a robin picking up hair from our Siberian Husky after my husband had brushed her. She flew off with a big hunk and came back and got more! Her babies got a soft mattress. All she needed was some of your bubble foil to keep them warm! We hope you have good results with your tests! The best to you and Lorie and your little fur babies on this journey called life! It will 54 years for me and hubby this month! 54 wonderful years I might add. I wouldn't trade him!!!👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi Boss of the Swamp...My husband,David, initiated me to your vlogs about a year ago.We are 67 years old from New Brunswick,Canada. We live on grid but have a camp on our 150 acres wood lot,30 miles from our home, which is off grid.We use it mostly in the fall as my husband hunts and does a bit of trapping. He has back problems since a few years so he is now limited to what he traps. No more beaver trapping as he can't carry the beavers a long ways anymore and to lift the big ones are more than he can handle.Continue with your vlogs as I even watched some of your videos as far as 8 years ago.Hopefully you will have good results from your MRI.Like you said we have to do things, like visit with family, as we don't know what tomorrow will bring us.We are like you and your wife....we work as a team my husband and I.Have a great day and Hi to your lovely wife.

Its amazing how animals use unpaved roads. We have seen deer, foxes, rabbits, beaver and even wolves using a sand road close to our house. They seem to enjoy the easy walking. Your absolutly right regarding the pace of your project. Live is way to short not to enjoy friends and family!
Yes-sir, there comes a time...every day with the people you love become more and more precious, just "being."
Not that goals and their achievements are any less important, but that added dimension of spending time with loved ones makes for a more spiritual life.
"Vaya con Dios" as you get "out of the woods" with your physical problems. Always good to hear from you, Mama, Frankie and Tilde.
Love, love the green trim! Looks very nice ( just like all you do!)
Slower pace and smell the roses, good for you!
The turkeys sure are a hoot!
Lovely wildlife in the woods :o) I like the color on the building. I could live in that house. Big enough for me. All the best to you on the mountain. :o) And God bless.
Our new cabin may be similar in design and size. This was a fun build for us.
I’m glad your gonna slow down and enjoy your family. Your to do list before winter sets in is quite the chore list anyways.
Love the video, thank you for sharing your life with us.
Thanks for watching!
those male turkeys are gorgeous strutting around
Pause at 9:05
There's a couple of owls hidden in your plywood walls. What a hoot!
Love the garage door. Down here we had to build our own. Good on you for the project rest. I understand about how the project is never done and for us too it is the same. We are still working on our house 5 years in. The farm has always taken priority. We are the same age so I know what you are saying about living and health. Life is short. Thanks again for the video. Jim in Chile.
I'm always leaving unfinished projects to start another and never seem to find my way back haha. Time for a change :-)
@@thebossoftheswamp Have you wondered if the spraying tanker has caused your cancer? My wife Lori and I are worried for you. Jim
Hi Boss a very busy driveway the project looks absolutely stunning and the colour match is perfect regards to Lori very nice video
Thanks Mike 👍
I just love you guys and your channel! I agree with you, take time to spend & make memories with family. Life here on earth is limited, that's just a fact. Love your attitude about things in general. Great narration and observations on the bountiful wildlife you share your property with. Music is most complimentary. Your projects are coming along so nicely.. wishing ya'll the best and looking forward to any future videos that may come. :-)
ALWAYS A TREAT TO VISIT WITH YOU BOTH.
I have few regrets for the life I have lived over the past 8 decades, but one is that I did not spend enough time with my brother and sister before they died. Both younger than me, his death slow and painful, hers without warning. We all let work and distance keep us apart. Make time to enjoy time with your brother, you will never regret that decision.
The project will get done - you know that! I really enjoy your manner of speaking and explanation, no BS, just down to earth, almost like you and I are having a conversation.
Stay safe, my regards to Lorrie and the kids. My kid, Gaspar, now 10, says ARF!
I think that color is great. The bold reddish brown with green trim looks fantastic.
Safe and healthy travels, now is all we have
You are so right about the slower pace.
French cleat backing all along that wall, that way you can move everything anywhere you want, just a suggestion. Thanks for the video sir, glad the family is doing better, saying that a lot now days. My calendar went from scheduling vacations, fishing, hunting and home projects to medical appointments, blood tests, and all the rest, replaced all the old stuff. Your right, we need to get some of the old stuff back on the list. Take Care, be safe, be happy
15:20 The toms are hopeful - and funny.
prayers and,
Blessings ~
Another great video! Wise words Boss, you have to make time to enjoy your life. Love the wildlife scenes. God sure had a creative imagination with all of those different animals!
