I love RUclips so much, because there isn't one song i cant find here for free, when i was young i had to collect soda bottles from the ditches on Carolina backroads, and turn em in, to go to the used record store and find gems like this. But, on the other hand, i miss doing those things. Music has always been such a friend to me.
This was filmed around the time that I met and interviewed B.B.- in Buffalo, for the entertainment magazine that my family was publishing at the time. Had the same lineup backing him. I was a teenager, learning to play the guitar, and I already owned some of B.B.'s albums. He was so friendly and "real", I was nervous, sitting in the presence of one of my guitar idols. I was afraid that I would say something stupid! When I saw the band onstage, I knew that this was exactly the type of band that I wanted to put together someday. R.I.P. Riley King.
@@albertobarbera663 it was a different era. James Brown studio recordings sometimes had strings. Producers were trying to add elements they thought might make the music have broader appeal. Who knows, maybe those strings were the thing that made that song so popular because it was the beginning of his crossover appeal? I get it though, I don’t care for them either. It’s kind of like the stuff John Hammond was doing with Aretha prior to 1967, it just didn’t work for me because it seemed to detract from the artist’s core talent. You couldn’t take Aretha away from gospel and R&B, but they tried. Why did they add strings to a band that already had a horn section? It added more content to the range of Lucile, but they did it.
I saw him at a festival in 2008 with my older brother and we were like we gotta see bb king before he dies. We get to the stage and he was laughing and smiling throwing pennies into the crowd then he picked up Lucille and said now I been hearing a lot of talk that bbs old and ain't going to be around much long...well I got something for them. Then he started shredding on Lucille and I remember my brother and I looking at each other like daaaaaamn.
I never saw him ~ was at the beach and heard Lucille, walked to en of beach closer to where he was performing in concert (long Beach CA) Weekend of September 9th, 2000 my son, daughters took me to NYC for my birthday. I wanted to go his Blues Club and Grill for lunch. Oldest decided we would go to a place in a World Trade Tower. I remember looking up at the tall towers, awed by their height.
You know rap is a genra in itself with a lot of diversity and can be extremely technical and lyrical. Sure every musician should be blessed to know BB king but the comparison makes no sense. Rappers are not inferior to any other kind of musicians.
My father is a photographer and I remember that in the darkroom sometimes this beautiful piece played in the background. Whenever I hear it I remember the old man, today I am a designer and sometimes when I am working...it also plays in the background.

Absolutely beautiful. B.B. King's music is one of those things that even with complete lack of context can be so fully representative of the passion in the human spirit
Reminds me of being in the juke joints up on the hill in hickory North Carolina listening to blues on jukeboxes then around midnight ordering up some pig feet white bread with hot sauce on the side with vinegar and a bootleggers half pint of corn whiskey or bourbon supreme chased with a cold can of country club
When you grew up with it you didn't know how special it all was. ....Oh, how I miss it all now! BB, Bobby, Albert King, ZZ Hill, Little Milton, Johnny Taylor, Lattimore....

Only one BB King. Such an incredible musician and performer. I saw him in concert about 40 years ago at an outdoor venue, hot summer night by the lake. One of the greatest concerts I ever saw. RIP BB, you were a true master.

The thrill is gone away
The thrill is gone, baby
The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong, baby
And you'll be sorry someday
The thrill is gone
It's gone away from me
The thrill is gone, baby
The thrill is gone away from me
Although, I'll still live on
But so lonely I'll be

Baby, it's gone away for good
Someday I know I'll be open-armed baby
Just like I know, I know I should

And now that it's all over
All that I can do is wish you well

The king does not touch Lucille with his hands, he touches her with his soul 😍😍
No music like this quality today, not even close.
This is when music was still pure ❤
This is why B.B.King is the King of blues himself !!
That was James Brown.
