290 on a 13, throttle body and 2 oxy sensors. Original engine and turbos. I did replace the garbage stock plugs with e3 plugs. I had misfire issues with brand new plugs. At around 100k from flooring it everywhere, my vehicle would go limp mode flash the check engine light then the light would good off a few minutes laters and drive fine. That might be his problem. Just replace all 6 and see what happens.

5.0 is the only one I would consider. I tend to keep things forever, but if you trade out trucks every few years, it's cool to try new things. I had an OBS Chevy truck when I bought a Ford. I no longer have that Ford, but still have that old Chevy.

A larger “Intercooler” is what you need. Also you can set up a nos intercooler spray that keeps the air super cold for the turbos. Another trick is taking the auto intercooler temp flaps ( for a lack of the technical term) out to where there is always ambient air flowing through.

What you need to keep the turbos from heat soaking is a bigger intercooler not a bigger radiator. I put in a CVF intercooler in mine and night & day difference in keeping the intake air temps cold and retaining power. You should look into that, it's an easy install and you'll really feel the difference on hot days. When you're doing it, you may want to upgrade your blow-off-valve if you want to hear the blow off sound of your turbos. I have a video of it in my profile if you want to hear what it sounds like.

100% specially the blow off valve. They are not capable of handling the extra boost. No offense, but you complaining about the 3.5 cus you thought everything would just workout with a universal tune. I found out the hard way as well. Limp mode when launch from 0. BOV could not handle it

@joshz7712 spark plugs aren't a difficult job to do. Gapping them isn't hard either. Also you shouldn't go as long on a set of plugs with eb as on a NA motor. Turbos are hard on plugs. I don't care what the plugs say they are good for. If you've gone 80 or 90k on plugs with these motors you went too long. They might drive just fine under normal conditions but under a load you will start having misfires.

I have a 2019 F150 Roush 5.0L with an Oz Omega X tune and I love it, especially with the Oz tune. I’m able to run a 50/50 mix of E85 and 93 octane, which further increases the performance due to the highly increased octane. The only problem I’ve had with the 5.0L is that I had to have the VCT intake solenoids replaced at 40K miles, but fortunately that fell under warranty. But, I’ve never had any issues with oil consumption. The exhaust sounds great too, with the Roush cat-back exhaust and the Roush Cold Air Intake. I’d highly recommend the 5.0L’s from 2018-2023 because they run great naturally-aspirated, and they can always be supercharged for even more power.

Look back through half ton truck history and lots of engines have issues v-8 or not. About the only one I have never heard a bad thing about is a Cummins, Duramax close second, old 7.2. Almost all had some issues. Not all parts and mechanics are the same. Some awesome, some not. Ecoboost is usually pushing or pulling much less weight so it's not putting the strain on the engine that people think. Towing or big payload yes it might strain it some but the Ecoboost engines were tested pretty intensely before they were put in a full size truck. A Toyota Tacoma weighs about 4000 lbs, an Ecoboost weighs a little more. A v-6 has no problem pushing a Tacoma at about 275 horsepower with zero turbos. So why would a truck that weighs a few hundred pounds more have issues with a better engine (arguably) and 2 turbos as far as engine strain is concerned that is. That's the argument I hear more than anything. That and the turbo maintenance. But if you're gonna buy a diesel, lots of those have turbos as well. I love your truck by the way. And don't get me wrong. Love a V8, I'm a Chevy small block kinda guy myself but both the 2.7 and 3.5 are great engines all things considered. In my opinion obviously

I’d have to disagree that the 5.0 “out-tows” the Ecoboost. Yeah, the 5.0 will get better fuel mileage… because when the 3.5 gets into the turbos, it becomes thirsty… but this is why the MaxTow for the 3.5 Ecoboost is 14k lbs, and the MaxTow for the 5.0 is 11k lbs. I’ve owned both. 5.0 pulling 9k uphill, downshift to 7th gear and run 5500 RPMs - Same trailer, same load, same hill, same speed - the stock Ecoboost drops to 9th gear running 2400 RPMs. Two different animals, I guess it really comes down to what you prefer.

My MPG was still waaaaaay better with the 5.0L and my trailer with full and mid size race car etc. no problems. That 2017 3.5L Eco on just leveling kit and slightly bigger tires was horrible. Thirsty is a understatement to say the least, and it struggled to get up to speed with trailer. I know on paper things look and sounds good but driving these trucks daily you see the difference. ina former certified Ford tech so I’ve seen a thing or two with these trucks. @@patrickthomas4646 Maybe you had the non turbo’d v6? Lol… I’ve owned both as well, a 10 speed V8, and a 10 speed 3.5 Twin-Turbo V6… the TT V6 is a better choice when towing and/or daily driver. People love to hate the Turbo’d trucks, because they’ve owned/never driven them. I’ll likely never go back to a NA V8, I miss the sound sometimes, but at the end of the day… they shit all over the NA V8s. That’s the truth. The future is forced induction v6 - or turbo diesel, but with turbo diesel you have to deal with DEF (unless deleted/ tuned). The sound that the v8 makes, and mpg while towing are the only things that are positive on the NA v8 vs twin turbo v6. The twin turbo v6 will tow better than the NA v8. That is a guarantee. Stock, or with a tune. The only way a 5.0 will tow as comfortably as a 3.5 is with a supercharger, and your looking at 8k-10k+ for that. Stock 3.5 Ecoboost with 1k vested gets you 500HP, 600 Ft-Lb torque at the wheel. I’m not knocking the 5.0… the 5.0 stock IN A ROLL RACE will slightly pull on a stock 3.5 Ecoboost. The 3.5 Ecoboost stock will pull on the 5.0 from a dig. Under load, the Ecoboost will pull much easier and more comfortable than the 5.0, and that’s the truth. Anyone with brains will know this. Thus is why an Ecoboost with 35s will be equivalent to a 5.7 hemi or even the 5.0 on 32s from 0-governor. The torque gets the truck moving to top speed much quicker because of the torque difference.
I agree with the “Plan ahead when purchasing”…
      If you’re going to sink 10k+ into a handheld/ supercharger / tune, get the 5.0, and have a 700HP/ 600 Ft-Lbs Torque monster.
      If you’re going to throw 1k into a handheld/ tune… get the 3.5 Ecoboost and have 500HP/ 600 Ft-Lbs Torque monster.
But just to let everyone know…
If you get the Ecoboost… you’ll never have the sound of the v8. You probably won’t miss it very often tho. You have to change the oil more often in the Ecoboost vs 5.0 (because it’s constantly being rotated by the 5.0s oil consumption). Spark plugs need changed every 30k-40k miles on the Ecoboost (100 bucks every few years). If you tow, you’ll get worse fuel mileage than the 5.0 while towing. Empty, the 3.5 will get slightly better fuel mileage. Gen 2/3 Ecoboost has dual timing chains, it’s really not an issue like it was on the first Gen. Any truck you purchase, from any manufacturer, put a catch can on it. If you lift the truck, stock vs stock or tuned vs tuned, the NA vehicle will be slower. I still average 20mpg+ with my lifted 3.5 Ecoboost on 35s while driving on the highway. I’m not saying that one is better than the other, it’s all in what the buyer prefers. I can’t personally speak on longevity, as I never keep any vehicle past 100k miles… although I see a lot of 5.0s and Ecoboosts with 250k+ for sale in my area, and not a lot of GMs or Rams with 250k+ for sale.

@@bigf1502 lol. Again it’s basically it’s what YOU like and what you want to do with it,is what it comes down to. I don’t and never will knock any vehicle. V6 V8 supercharged turbo doesn’t matter. I have and had several cars super cars and hemi as well fully built turbo cars and so on I get it I understand what you’re trying to say I agree with you and if you really must know that eco-boost 3.5 will make in the upwards close to 900 horse with the right mods and pretty much stock internals like I said I’m a former Ford certified tech, I actually took a class on this and I actually know engineers personally so I know what I’m talking about, it’s not to knock anybody. My choice is the V8 power and yes with a some bolt ons like a supercharger or even maybe a TwinTurbo kit definitely will walk over most of anything, but is it worth it probably not but I appreciate the debate.. My eco boost was good, but in a lifter close to 7k pound truck the V8 in my experience is a better option. The V8 sound is definitely a bonus. Take care.

Lol you may prefer the v8 for various reasons, but 5.0 in no way pulls better than the 3.5tt. I pull my 5k lb camper (nowhere near as much as I'm rated for) and the only time it ever even hit 3k rpm is when I go to pass. It runs 2200 to 2400 uphill through the mountains. You might get better fuel economy but that's about it.

I recently bought a 2023 F150 XLT FX4 with the 3.5 Ecoboost. I found the 400 Horsepower and 500 Lbs of Torque is more than enough power. I was a little concerned before I lifted it but to be honest it gets up and goes. Being a V8 guy for many years and test driving both, hands down I have to give it to the Ecoboost. If sound is important than hands down the V8 is better but I like my truck as quiet as I can get it. If you get a F250 having that warranty is such a must. I owned a 2006 and a 2017 F250 and on both the Warranty came in handy. Your videos are great. Keep making them.

Ive seen on forums the ecoboost needs spark plugs as little as every 30k miles. Also make sure you turn off stability trac and traction comtrol before hard excleration. I had my truck go into limp mode after i hard accelereted through an intersection. Shut it off and back on everything was great again. My desiel mechanic buddy told me to turn all that crap off, if it starts to lose traction it freaks the electronics out sometimes and throws the truck into limp mode.

Honestly for a 1st gen 3.5 Ecoboost the best mod would be a water/meth injection kit. It would cool up the intake air temps while cleaning up the backsides of the intake valves. This would also increase the potential power gains, especially if you know a reputable person who can tune on a dyno.

You may want to consider replacing your boost control module. I have a 2018 raptor with numerous mods and a tune, and mine would go into limp mode once it reached between 5000 and 6000 RPMs. I replaced the BCM, for $50 from Ford, and the truck was back to normal after that.
Also, check the Hose clamps on your boost tubes. One of them may be just loose enough to start leaking air when you hit 18 to 20 psi.

I remember accelerating onto the highway and I was absolutely stunned! Yup….3.5 ecoboost…….I bought a brand new 2017 and now it has 85k on it. Guy at work has 2017 too, but has 185k on it…no repairs………for me, I changed the plugs at 75k and they were clean! I chose to replace all the coil packs as well…preventative………Im still full stock, but going to add a tune and change cold air intake and exhaust now….so really appreciate your videos. I toyed with getting a new GMC Yukon with the 6.2L v8……but the gas mileage is really bad. GM also has issues with trans around 80k and some engine issues as well. So decided to keep mine for another 100k……I love the look (same color as yours), aand the drive…..cant wait to see how quick it will be with the add ons…..oh, and I run with a 3.73 rear end….so it already flies off the line…..keep making those videos…and love that Ford!

Had a 2020 F150 XLT Sport 4x4 Crewmax 5.0 coyote. Burned 2 1/2 to 3 quarts of oil per 5000 miles. There was an issue with not having the cast iron cylinder liners in the engine. This caused excessive oil consumption. Did not happen on all of them. The main issue was 2018 to 2020. I never would have bought the 5.0 had I known of the issue before hand. I finally traded it for a 2023 with the 3.5 ecoboost. What a difference. The ecoboost blows away the 5.0 when it comes to performance in stock form! There is no comparison. I have only had the new truck for a few months but I can tell a huge difference in daily driving. It doesn't hunt for gears the way the 5.0 did on hills. I think the issues of the 5.0 are not as bad now but I have seen a few people comment that they have newer trucks than 2020 and still have oil consumption. I was just afraid to try it. I think before you buy one with a 5.0 you should drive one that is set up the way that you like. Would hate to see you get a 5.0 and make all the mods and then be dissatisfied with it. Good luck! You do a great job! I love your honesty and passion!
