    I work at a Ford dealership and there's so many instances where people go 10k miles on semi synthetic with EcoBoost engines. For some reason 100% oil life in the vehicle settings is equivalent to 10k~ miles so people just wait for that oil change required light, not realizing they are 5k miles over what the sticker says. That oil normally comes out stinky, black, and dirty.... Nearly looking like diesel. It's even worse when people get their FIRST change at 10k. I feel bad for the people out there that just don't know better. I try to explain in our inspections that they shouldn't go that far, but the advisors come back and complain about the customer being angry at us. Then they tell us to stop explaining it because they're too baby-like to handle a disgruntled customer. Hopefully Ford changes they oil life meters to NOT be SO far.

      It’s what ford wants motorcraft oil and filter and the car will tell you when it needs changed. Why is the manufacturer and dealer not on the same page?

    • @xeutoniumnyborg1192
      @xeutoniumnyborg1192 Год назад +5

      I'm surprised Ford hasn't shortened the oil change intervals if for nothing else to reduce the warranty expense totals under ESP due to the need to replace engines.
      Sadly, we humans are made lazy by technology, and most motorists rely on that stupid oil reminder to tell them the oil needs to be changed.
      When I worked at GMC, new truck buyers received a coupon to get their first oil change free of charge. Coupon had the mileage interval the truck should be brought in printed on the certificate. Ford should start offering that to its new car buyers.

    • @supersportimpalass
      @supersportimpalass Год назад +8

      There should be class action lawsuits for manufacturers programming their computers with such ridiculous oil change intervals that are known to damage engines.

    • @brycemartin572
      @brycemartin572 5 месяцев назад +5

      The engine will last just a little over 100k if you go with 10k oil change intervals so Ford isn't losing any money on warranty engine replacements and not many people that buy new cars keep their cars for more than 2-3 years so it is the secondary used market where this becomes an issue. Ford will keep the 10k oil change interval on paper because then they can show a lower cost of ownership on the dealer fact sheet.

    A tip - lots of oil pans/engines leave about 0.25-0.5 quart or more of oil in the system after draining. With the drain plug still off, pour some oil in and wait until it runs clean out the bottom. This will help push out some of the remaining old oil. I have heard that airplane mechanics do it like this.

      I made the mistake of buying an oil change package from the dealer (rhymes with "Spotto-bation") when I bought my F150. The price made the per oil change cost about the same as doing it myself or taking to an independent shop. The sales guy sold it as top-tier products, factory recommended maintenance, blah, blah, blah. Figured it would be good to have all that dealer maintenance on the Carfax. The reality is they use the cheapest oil they can find, as well as crappy no-name filters. Just stay away from dealers, unless you are forced to get recall or warranty work done.

    Should the 3.5 naturally aspirated port injected engine (2011 Explorer) also use 5W30 even though it calls for 5W20? Think I saw this question but did not find an answer. Thanks.

    • @t.o.9215

      If no one has answered after your question five months, here is my experience. Stay with the manufacturers spec. The naturally aspirated uses 5w20 but the twin turbo version will specify 5w30. I believe if your driving is in a very hot climate you wouldn’t necessarily need 5w20 and would require the upgrade but this is spelt out in your owners manual.

    great point, my 2010 sho says 5w20 but i found it odd when dealer told me all other year models are 5w30 and it made no sense since they are the same engine. I'm gonna switch to 5w30 now.

Just curious if you would recommend cranking in clear flood mode to get oil into the filter and engine before starting.

My garage isn't tall enough to raise the truck so I've bought Mobil One and paid $20 for a local shop to change with my oil. The Castrol change was a coupon I had. With your angled oil filter, you could fill it about 75% and not worry about spilling any oil when installing the filter.
