    (Apologies for the less than great audio quality, my mic's we're acting up for this one)
    Hydroponic gardens are not expensive generally, don't just kill your plants or generate algae or root rot out of no where. And they don't require a lot of maintenance at all. I Go through all these myths and draw backs debunking and assisting where I can. My goal is to show people who are just starting out that a lot of the misconceptions about hydroponics are just that and noting more.

    Thank you for this great video! I totally agree to all your arguments. I do container gardening indoors in Kratky-Hydro and outdoors on my balcony in soil.
    For me the biggest advantage of hydroponics is the flexibility: you can switch your plants around in your systems, in soil you cannot do this so easily.
    In the solution you have the nutrients under control and can optimize them to your plants needs (e.g. tomatos have different needs in the respective growth stages). In soil nutrients are always a guessing game (test kits are too expensive in my opinion).
    And if you have root rot in your hydro system you can completely empty and clean it. In soil you have to dispose of the soil, otherwise the problem will come back again. And even if your plants are healthy - you cannot use the same soil indefinitely, this can lead to problems. But to exchange 100L of soil is a lot more expensive than 100L of water. In the long run soil gardening will cost more.
    And as you said: in soil you have to know how much you are allowed to water, in hydro you just fill up when needed - good for people without a green thumb. :-)

      You nailed it! Once I read the "requires constant maintenance" I knew I had to make the video lol Thank you so much for the comment!

    I reload my ammunition and one of the many aspects I enjoy with this is the cerebral part. You have to pay attention or you can blow your face off. Now, here come the stretch… I enjoy hydroponics because you do have the possibility of more control over your garden. You take notes, keep a log just to see what variables were introduced and what results in the modification of those variables. You learn every day. This too can be said of traditional gardening but there are many more aspects which nature provides such as the micro biology which is difficult at best to control. I am very happy but most of all, to see the wonder of what becomes out of that tiny seed. All that genetic code springs forth in front of you. With hydroponics, these are your children so to speak and they depend on you totally. You give to them and they give you joy in return. Very good points you make.

    5 Hempy Bucket. Under $10. Manual drain to waste. Less costly than most others that size and will perform flawlessly. JM2¢

    Personally to me I feels like hydropronics (in a general sense at least) is more like working in a lab than growing plants "anymore". Could I "jerry rig" the ever popular "Kathy Lettuce" that everyone is talking about for pennies on the dollar especially if the 2 gallons' container is on the house (waste/byproduct of something I intended to use) compared to indoor "traditonal" gardening? Absolutely, but I am gonna want to eat something that came from a battery (if not batteries) of test tubes (the chemicals, stabilizers, etc)? Not at all.
    ON the other hand, if I were to have a "organic" fish tank already set up, would I wanna convert that into a basic floating AQUAponic setup to grow my weekly lettuce? Absolutely, at least then, I am using what nature is ALREADY providing.
    But I do get it, indoor gardening is hard to "let nature run it's courses" even with your best intentions. As obviously it's not just the matters of not "Miracle Groing" it. Simply because it's indoors.

      @@humblegrowth You are welcome, I thought they were relating to what people make of these systems so I thought take it from what my thoughts were. So thank you for that. :)

    #1 Should be lack of biology, will clog your system if you try and add it. Only option is Dual root zone hydroponics or Aquaponics. Its all about the biology!

    • @humblegrowth
      @humblegrowth  Год назад

      Would you mind elaborating on this more? Do you mean with aeroponics, things will clog because of the tiny holes designed for pressure? What exactly do you mean "Biology"? I use GH Nova series for my Macro and Micro nutrients, my EC usually around 12-1500, so there are plenty of nutrients creating the biology, and nothing has clogged yet. Just looking for an opportunity to learn. thank you! Also this video is about Hydroponic Myths, so are you saying that it is a myth that there is no biology in hydroponics?

      @ShootingtheSoil Год назад

      @@humblegrowth My personal experience with adding microbes in a bottle to a hydroponic system leads to a film building up on everything. Takes about one and a half grow cycle before things start clogging, air stone was the 1st... then pump... then reservoir started to get funky and smell. Plants did great the 1st run and then looked like trash the 2nd, had to clean everything and start over.

    • @ShootingtheSoil

      So either dual root zone so you can have microbes in the soil and roots hang down into the hydro system. Or go aquaponics so the fish help clean the system and you just take care of the fish like a aquarium and the biology will be there for the plants! Plus a bit of fish poop for nutrients! haha

    • @ShootingtheSoil
      @ShootingtheSoil Год назад

      Aquatic Biology and Soil Biology are very different species of microbes. You wouldn't put a cat in a fish tank! =)

    • @humblegrowth
      @humblegrowth  Год назад

      @@ShootingtheSoil I've done a few aquaponic setups, so I am familiar. I am confused by what you mean when you say "microbes" and "biology" but no mention of liquid nutrients? what exactly are you adding to the water? As I'm sure you know, good nutrients will contain all the biology that the plants will need to thrive without clogging your setup. They are designed for hydroponics. So IMHO if standard nutrients are clogging your setup, perhaps it wasn't constructed properly. I ran into a few nutrient deficiencies in my aquaponic setups and ended up subsidizing calcium and magnesium in the end anyway...
