I think IDW being canon is genius! A true dream come true to a longtime fan with a passion for lore and the cast like myself! It helps give further character development and worldbuilding to the franchise, something that was severely needed after Forces, and that entire Era as a whole. It did help introduce the Sonic franchise to people who love comics but either never played or only dabbled in the games. The new characters and concepts are excellent and can easily be introduced and explained in the mainline games through a biography tab ala Generations or games like Mass Effect and MvC 3, or even full-on sidequests and dialogue that explains and showcases who they are and what they're about. I think a good way to bridge the gap is to finish the current story in IDW with a setup to Frontiers, and then relaunch the book with the story taking place after. Not only is something that has happened in Archie before, but it's standard for comic book franchises to relaunch over time to catch up newcomers and do some changes to the status quo. Plus, things like the humans are already being explained in the TailsTube series, not to mention the Encyclospeedia book and Flynn's Bumblekast. Could this merger be even more cleaner and better? Sure, but i firmly believe that decanonizing and being separate like Archie would be a major missed opportunity and damage dealt to all that the IDW comics have gifted to the franchise so far.
4:16 they could introduce these character in the games in some form like give us a recap about who these characters i mean if they can give a recap about shadow's history and who he is in shadow generations they could do it for other characters too.
Or they can do it in the chaotix style: changing the origins of a character to their likes in order to adapt them to the game (because in Knuckles chaotix, Vector wasn't greedy, Espio wasn't a ninja and Charmy was mature).
6:25 this whole arguement falls apart because they do infact can do some original things and ideas in their stories because...like i said in my previous comments they pretty much have freedom to anything in their story ideas that the games never introduced or established before the best examplei can give you is the knuckles' 30th anniversary...the comic managed to do some original world-building and ideas that sonic super stars never introduced before that is it's the village of sungazers like this is something completely original and introduced purely by the IDW comics itself! like the civilization of sungazers is something superstars never introduced or even hint that idea! 6:32 again...THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT HAPPEND WITH THE IDW COMICS A FEW DAYS AGO!!
A new civilisation made entirely off of a game civilisation we know existed We don’t know that trips people are still alive to be fair but also we know their were other sun-gazers based off the murals in game and in the prologue animation. A new civilisation made of comic exclusive elements doesn’t exist
Also what people mean about big original stories is things like in Archie the Arks leading up to Knotholes new city The things that build up for multiple arcs and have a huge payoff in the end Character development for characters and others
@RaiginAnimator no...we never knew the village of sungazers even existed! Until the comics built it up superstars didn't even hint the idea of trip even has a clan.
2:45 i mean...they could still give them some small developments here and there that wouldn't really contradict the games anyway i mean if they can give knuckles some development in the comics and flesh him out in the ((for my destiny)) story issue 80 as we saw it in the 2024 annual and even have any have some character progression from the metal virus and after so much stress and anxiety she gone through during the metal virus that just tells you it's definitely possible for them to give the game characters..some development and changes here and there like it's not impossible there's definitely some freedom in this here and there it's not all that restricted and strict...the only limitation i can see to this is they have to make sure to contradict the game but...other than they mostly do have freedom when it comes to like story ideas and character development even for game characters some degree like again it's not impossible. to further to prove my point in ian flynn's bumble kast episode 19th october 2020 48:23 exactly in this moment he says that ((he didn't expected any of his ideas for the metal virus story get approved and sega was ok with most of the ideas ian flynn had for the metal virus)) which means ian flynn does have the freedom or any writers that matter to do any story ideas they want for the most part maybe some small and minor restrictions here and there..but it's nothing too heavy and much they couldn't work around with like again for the most part they have the freedom to do any storylines they want for the comics. at this point they can even change the status quo if they want to EASILY! like they can literally destroy the restoration HQ and boom they changed the status quo and this would mean jack to the games and wouldn't even contradict anything if you get what i mean so it's not all that restricted as people making it out to be. plus the shadow and team dark mandates are also removed aswell based on what we saw from urban warfare too so this makes things even better. 3:31 but...again they can still have them go through some character progression from the events they experienced here and there like if they can do it for amy from metal virus what's stopping them to do it for other game character or other cast of character that matter...like i said they do have freedom to anything in their story ideas for the most part.
To incorporate the IDW Sonic universe into the games, you could introduce it as an interactive game feature, similar to Gerald Robotnik's notebook in Sonic X or Shadow the Hedgehog. For example, in an open-world setting like Sonic Generations or future Sonic games, players could unlock IDW-related content by completing side quests, achievements, or exploration objectives. These could include finding collectible items, such as data logs, journals, or holograms, that reveal IDW lore and character backstories. This feature could seamlessly integrate into the gameplay, adding depth and encouraging players to explore while staying engaged with the main campaign."
I like the fact that being cannon makes them really approachable And I like the stories but I’ve seen what these comic writers can do when given full freedom. I just wish we could do more Like with arcs and things with all the characters
5:08 wait..WHAT?! excuse me for a moment...is this even confrimed? that they even have a limitation for world-building? like from all the confrimed mandates we've seen there wasn't any mandates specifically towards to locations and world buildin like if this comic is canon to the games they could likely be able to adapt any locations from the games since they have the freedom to do any story lines what's stopping them to adapt locations from the game i promise you if you take a look at all of the locations and world building the sonic games has introduced it's big enough to make a fairly huge world building if not as big as archie like...again we didn't see any mandates specifically for world-building from the confrimed mandates we have seen! so where's this coming from? is this like confrimed or anything because other than that it just feels like an speculation,a guess speculations and guesses that people just making it up that you really should take it with a grain of salt! like here's the thing if the comics are canon to the games logically shouldn't they be able to adapt any locations from the game if they want to?
The idw comics being canon is fine in my eyes especially since the comics characters are pretty cool and the possibility of them becoming playable is there
So far they’re only few instances of a time skip but that’s only at the beginning of sonic frontiers only a tails tube video, a knuckles short film, and a comic from IDW confirm the time skip even though they don’t have the characters from the IDW comics other than sonic, tails, Amy, eggman, and knuckles. for now, we have to wait until Eggman learns about Starfall Island.
Speaking of the Frontiers name drops, a certain badger is undoubtedly going to make her debut in mainline canon at some point down the line, probably right before they finally do the Frontiers time skip. I’m honestly kind of excited to see how they handle Sticks in mainline. Are they going to tone down her hyperactiveness to make her less annoying to the fanbase? Maybe they’ll make her less crazy and more so adventurous, like Tangle but with a reckless streak? That could be interesting.
5:42 ok..why is this topic is still a thing? it should be irrelevant by now evan stanley literally confrimed last year that sega has indeed loosen up the shadow and team dark mandates and we did saw it's affects in the urban warfare arc aswell meaning the writers actually have more freedom when it comes to shadow so...why is this still a thing the problem is pretty much solved for the most part.
Real quick just to clarify: Dark beginnings doesn't prove that GUN is still around, the short occurs before generations and GUN gets destroyed in forces so GUN cant exist in IDW comics. But of course, the twitter takeovers shouldn't be taken as solid evidence for lore, since the characters are extremely self aware of their games acting more as actors to a film than who they are in game. Other than that, people have a ton of good reasonings to why the comics being canon are a bad thing but to those saying that "the comics cant be extreme in anything because it'll mess with the game's story" is entirely untrue. I think the metal virus is the best example of this. That story had massive stakes with effects that still lingered after the metal virus with the deadly six remaining on mobius, starline's awakening of independent evil, sonic's internal doubt, and the world's view of him. If anything, I think the reason why the comic feels so irrelevant to the story has just been the "Filler". Chao races, Test run, and the misadventures saga all felt kinda stale. It took up a ton of time for a story that didn't have much going on other than set up for new plot lines, (Like Starline getting ingredients for kit and surge, Clutch's introduction to the plot, belle's struggle with her father eggman, etc.) without having much substance in it. The riders arc is looking to hopefully be the one that will kick off the next shock wave of events to occur in the comic with how the new covers are looking (especially on how lanolin will be handled after this arc, pls let her be a anti hero I BEG) Also, I really think that the comics being canon isn't really that big of an issue to deal with. Characters don't need a ton of stuff to be introduced to new people. It really just comes down to establishing who they are as characters and what their motives are. Surge and Kit is the best example of this. Their storys are extremely complex as cyborg "clones" of sonic and tails, but if you wanted to establish them as characters in the game without stuffing in too much information, just look at the annual we got this year! Surge and Kit are "heroes" who are in the gig for different reasons. Surge wants the glory and attention while kit just wants to make surge happy. They hate sonic and tails for their inaction and eggman for being a jerk and aren't afraid off getting their hands dirty. Afterwards, if people are more curious on their backstorys, then they can go back to imposters syndrome or hey maybe IDW can just make a full collection of storys where surge and kit were massively involved like what they did with knuckles.
the problem with fans is and will forever be they want to rush things to get to where the games are starting but forget it takes time for the build up or maybe the comics aren't canon maybe Sega realizes the mistake their doing and take the time and effort to do this right. I don't mind the IDW Comics being canon maybe we can get them into the games which I think will be amazing.
Well I've seen my comment on your post about This video and yeah I want to apologize about Incoherently assuming That The riders arc takes place after Sonic Frontiers and That was stupid and I should have done my research better,I am very sorry😞
There is an issue that Sonics comic is how seemingly coherent with the Games because the same guy is writing for both. The moment that one or the other loses this the IDW comics will start contradicting the games.
I do think it should’ve been its own thing. Cause now that they’re canon, that means they’ll have to stay close to the restrictions of the games and Sega would act all corporate on the comics
Idw being canon I think help prevent another kender pender type of lawsuit and as well it make them connected to the game so the world can feel more vast but their one complaint I can say is they need to show human in the comics that all
I think my only complain of IDW being canon is where the humans are and why we have not seen any after Sonic Forces or after Sonic Frontiers? The only logic I could think of is that somehow Eggman not only destroyed GUN in Forces, but the other human races as well with their tech being the only thing that survived for him to use. Thus making Eggman the only human being left. I hope that is not the case, and we see some info like you said we saw some in Shadow generations (which takes place at the same time as Sonic generations & before Sonic Forces). Plus I would like to see humans that we know in the games so far interact with these characters like maybe GUN coming back to help rebuild the restoration or something.
For me, it is one since it limits the character development and certain types of possible scenarios. There's a reason why old comics like Archie or Fleetway were able to develop characters and the reason was that they were their own thing. You can't do that with IDW, no matter what happens to the character, he will have to return to his initial state at the end. The best developed characters are characters like Tangle or Whisper but even they have to comply with the mandate now. Silver's future cannot be adapted, for example, which sucks since that's literally where he comes from.
Game characters ain't 100% immune to character development while yes it does create some limitations to an extent and can't do some certain things...i don't think it's impossible for the writers to give the game characters abits of development here and there i mean if they can give knuckles some development in ((for my destiny)) story issue 80 and make him actually realize he's not alone and appericiate the things he have in life and it's actually effective and works for his character they can definitely do it for other game characters aswell heck they even had amy had some character progression from metal virus after what happened to her goin through so much stress and anxiety i mean...again it's not impossible you know like it's not something super restricted like no it's not that restricted as people making it out to be like... again if they have the freedom to do whatever story ideas they want to do for the most part including character development aswell including for the game character like i know there's some limitations and that limitation is that it doesn't contradict anything from the games other than that if they manage to do that and work around that limitation to not contradict anything in games..they probably can give some development ot the game characters aswell I mean again...they managed to do it for Knuckles and he's a game characters soo that just proves my point they can still give them some development here and there and it wouldn't even affect or contradict the games.
@@JakeThehedgehog-m1x The thing is that it risks not being taken into account. Keep in mind that IDW takes place before Frontiers and what happens to Knuckles in that game? He tells Sonic that he envies him and his freestyle style and that he wishes he wasn't chosen to keep the master emerald.
@@Pan-cackes they used completely different context...in frontiers his whole character arc was about to go out like have your own adventures a little live your life there's more than just guardian the master emerald all the time...but in ((for my destiny)) issue 80 it's about Knuckles appericiate the things he has in life see it's the context and the meaning is completely different whcih this development used in the comics and guess what this little character development knuckles had in ((for my destiny)) doesn't really affect or even contradict the games in any shape or form that just proves my point that they can give the game characters some development here and there as long it doesn't contradict the games that's all meaning the writers can give the game characters some development here and there like it's not impossible...just because IDW is canon to the games doesn't mean it's impossible for the writers to give the game characters some development and trust me they can still do much...look i know there's some limitations because of this i agree but I'm 100% certain it's not even that super restricted as people making it out to be like it's 100% impossible for the game characters to have any development people are kinds overexaggerating the mandates.. The writers just need to try it out that's all..and i do think starting with Knuckles is a first good step.
Don't forget about the Sonic Twitter Takeover and Tails Tube videos on RUclips. Dr. Eggman mentioned that he dismantled GUN during Sonic Forces. Both Sage and the Restoration were even mentioned once on the same video.
To be honest I do not mind Sonic IDW being canon. I will miss Sonic Archie though because it had the best characters, escalations, and arcs. But I would say IDW didn't have the iffy or what the fridge writing moments. Like Sally Moon, Muscle Tails, Ken Penders's writing, and Ken Penders himself. But hey at least their lore won't be as annoying like MLP IDW. Eggman here is balanced with comedy and despicability, the new characters get to shine (still miss Sally and Co), and the art is consistent unlike Archie's. MLP IDW is how not to do a comic canon for a source material. And its a shame because there was some good moments. Like Chrysalis being pure evil in the comics because dang her actions are VILE, the exploration of Princess Celestia or spinoffs exploring the ponies. But the issue is that the comics didn't align with the main series continuity of MLP. Also the MLP IDW felt like fanfiction with Luna's jealousy and tragedy as Nightmare Moon being forced upon so much. To how bad IDW's MLP Season 10 was. So yes while it is flawed at least Sonic's IDW while it could be better at least SEGA wants to make the canon consistent. It may not be the best but its fine for me. So overall that's just my two cents.
Ok so for the comics not catching up to frontiers we see characters from murder of Sonic show up all the time Berry has literally hanged out with the Rookie from forces & has been at the Restoration events helping sell food now this could just mean he had this job before murder of sonic but he seemed kind of unfamiliar with Sonic’s cast in the game which doesn’t make sense to me when he was watching a racing event with team Sonic as one of the teams Next as for where are the humans G.U.N was said to be destroyed in the Eggman tails tube episode and the metal virus was only really on the one island we see in forces/the comics which in tails tube episode 1 they say humans live on other parts of the planet so the virus never got there to effect them
There's really only two saving grace solutions: A) Disassociation. If Sega official announced that the Comics are part of the same multiverse and not the same timeline (like Classic Sonic), then the comic would be free from the chains of script and can do whatever they can as long as the characters are respected. B) TV series. Like mangas, adapting a series based on the comic is not only better but can also ease in the expended lore. Everyone nowadays have access to TV's and channels. If IDW Sonic gets animated, then a great part of the problem is solved as they could adapt both game and comic issues and stories. There's also a wishful idea: In game Comics. Transfer all completed Comic arc within game, letting players read them on their free time. To make it more fun, the player could run around in every zone and collect these hidden collectibles.
Statistically, I think making the IDW comics being canon to the previous games before it (and to a lesser extent Sonic Forces, because it's a prequel to the comics), is a bad idea, because not only would we lose the shonen style free-spirit identity of the franchise, but it also encourages cultural vandalism from Ian Flynn, who refuses to have any canon immigration for any Western Sonic characters that aren't his own, and that includes denouncing anything related to AoStH and SatAM, which I know many fans favored before. It doesn't help that his treatment of characters from AoStH and SatAM were dismantled in bad faith, as much as Star Wars was dismantled by Disney for the sequels. And bear in mind, I'm referring to anything related to Modern Sonic. Classic Sonic might have better luck because it retains the shonen style free-spirit identity of the franchise, but it hurts that we have two exclusive identities, further dividing the fanbase and also hurting the franchise financially.
I don’t care if it’s canon, I still enjoy the IDW Sonic comics.
I dont mind it being cannon because if the idw characters ever appear in a mainline game we could play as them

Cool!
I’m still going with the theory that frontiers timeskip happens in issue 100 or 101
2:45 i mean...they could still give them some small developments here and there that wouldn't really contradict the games anyway i mean if they can give knuckles some development in the comics and flesh him out in the ((for my destiny)) story issue 80 as we saw it in the 2024 annual and even have any have some character progression from the metal virus and after so much stress and anxiety she gone through during the metal virus that just tells you it's definitely possible for them to give the game characters..some development and changes here and there like it's not impossible there's definitely some freedom in this here and there it's not all that restricted and strict...the only limitation i can see to this is they have to make sure to contradict the game but...other than they mostly do have freedom when it comes to like story ideas and character development even for game characters some degree like again it's not impossible.

at this point they can even change the status quo if they want to EASILY! like they can literally destroy the restoration HQ and boom they changed the status quo and this would mean jack to the games and wouldn't even contradict anything if you get what i mean so it's not all that restricted as people making it out to be.
plus the shadow and team dark mandates are also removed aswell based on what we saw from urban warfare too so this makes things even better.
3:31 but...again they can still have them go through some character progression from the events they experienced here and there like if they can do it for amy from metal virus what's stopping them to do it for other game character or other cast of character that matter...like i said they do have freedom to anything in their story ideas for the most part.
7:28 Untrue Dark beginnings takes place before forces
And from what I’ve been told shun was destroyed during Eggmans planetary takeover
If they finally make arcs that take place AFTER sonic frontiers, have Sage meet Belle, and have them form some sort of sisterly relationship

Yeah, they can develop the characters a little like Blaze and Marine who have become sisters now
@@Pan-cackes they used completely different context...in frontiers his whole character arc was about to go out like have your own adventures a little live your life there's more than just guardian the master emerald all the time...but in ((for my destiny)) issue 80 it's about Knuckles appericiate the things he has in life see it's the context and the meaning is completely different whcih this development used in the comics and guess what this little character development knuckles had in ((for my destiny)) doesn't really affect or even contradict the games in any shape or form that just proves my point that they can give the game characters some development here and there as long it doesn't contradict the games that's all meaning the writers can give the game characters some development here and there like it's not impossible...just because IDW is canon to the games doesn't mean it's impossible for the writers to give the game characters some development and trust me they can still do much...look i know there's some limitations because of this i agree but I'm 100% certain it's not even that super restricted as people making it out to be like it's 100% impossible for the game characters to have any development people are kinds overexaggerating the mandates..
I haven’t read the MLP comics but I like to think it really IS fanfiction, and written by Discord. He does break the fourth wall a number of times. 😆
Ok so for the comics not catching up to frontiers we see characters from murder of Sonic show up all the time Berry has literally hanged out with the Rookie from forces & has been at the Restoration events helping sell food now this could just mean he had this job before murder of sonic but he seemed kind of unfamiliar with Sonic’s cast in the game which doesn’t make sense to me when he was watching a racing event with team Sonic as one of the teams
Next as for where are the humans G.U.N was said to be destroyed in the Eggman tails tube episode and the metal virus was only really on the one island we see in forces/the comics which in tails tube episode 1 they say humans live on other parts of the planet so the virus never got there to effect them
There's really only two saving grace solutions:
A) Disassociation.
Are they canon I don’t really pay attention to idw Sonic comics being canon to tell you the truth.
Classic Sonic might have better luck because it retains the shonen style free-spirit identity of the franchise, but it hurts that we have two exclusive identities, further dividing the fanbase and also hurting the franchise financially.
nobody cares..just move on already freedom fighters will never be in IDW face it
Idw and prime causes the biggest of problems
