It would be interesting to see where this could go.
I'm really happy with what the comics have been doing. I love the way the characters are written in them and It also makes me happy to know that the comic characters exist in the game universe. I would be over the moon to see a game based on the metal virus saga. Also seeing the comic characters in the games fully fleshed out would be sick, there's so much potential!
One thing they could maybe add is they could have collectibles in a future game where getting them unlocks comic issues of IDW you could read in an extras menu.
I think the best thing for them to do is have both the comic team and Sonic Team directly collaberating with each other characters and ideas that they can bith use but can keep the ongoing stories in both games seperate while having all the characters showing up and being canon
I'd rather it be like how Archie and the games were. Exist separately but have the same characters. It's neat that the idw is cannon but like you said it is asking a lot to have fans invest in a ongoing comic series where things can get murky when you try to put a timeline of events and such. As neat as having the metal virus be a game id rather the stick to original stories for the time being. Ultimately I'll appreciate this idw cannon more when these characters ACTUALLY appear in these mainline games that aren't spinoff like in forces speed battle having tangle and whisper in them.
I also don’t like the idea of having to read the comics in order to understand the story of the games moving forward. I shouldn’t have to go looking into an external source just to understand the whole plot and the sudden appearance of the new characters, that’s just bad writing/storytelling.
I agree. I don't like IDW, which already adds to me not wanting it to be canon, but also it's true that I shouldn't have to read a comic to enjoy the games.
@@Probably_CLOUD fr making it that a casual has to read the comics to understand why random new characters just appeared and seem to know the rest of the cast is poor decision making especially since the comics are a 6/10 at best and not everyone will want to read them
I love that the comics are canon to the games, it just makes the franchise as a whole seem more cohesive and united. Yeah, it might be difficult to introduce the IDW cast into the games, but I feel like the Open Zone format will be a good way to do so if the 3rd Update for Frontiers does super well. The next game could have an overall plot, but each area could have their own mini plot that focuses on or features specific characters. Like, Central City could have the Chaotix dealing with Clutch, Rough and Tumble while Sonic's doing his thing; heck, maybe they could be running the Black Market and take Big's shop role. Surge and Kit could be causing havoc somewhere and trying to lure out and destroy Sonic and Tails as optional reoccurring boss fights. Tangle, Whisper, and Lanolin could be scoping out an Eggman base. All you'd need is a database or repository that you can use to get the gist of the characters. Like what Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart did. Heck, maybe spin-off games could be a good way to easily introduce IDW characters into the games. Maybe they can reuse the Sonic Chronicles title as a sub-series to use side characters. Like Sonic Heroes style ones for the Chaotix and Diamond Cutters. Or Sonic Rush style ones focusing on confrontations between Sonic and Surge and Tails' Adventure style ones for confrontations between Tails and Kit. There's a lot that can be done here.
As I've said: I'm conflicted. A. it's cool they're expanding the sonic universe with these existing characters and stories B. You can tell this wasn't 100% thought-out and it looks like it was originally intended to REMAIN it's own continuity and they definitely retroactively decided to put them into the canon. I think it might be too late to rework an Comic arc into it's own game. Something I think could work if they were to introduce them in a game, is by adding character bios (sort of like Generations) and preferably introducing them early on, if not immediately in the story.
Eh…. I’m still on the fence about it being canon. I’m still convinced Ian just snuck those lines into Frontiers as easter eggs. More likely, I think the plan will be to introduce the IDW characters into the mainline games with new storylines, since the fans like the IDW characters. MAYBE they adapt the IDW arcs into games, which I would like, but I’ll hold my breath on the canonicity of the comics until they are more explicitly mentioned in the games.
I am once again asking for a new Sonic Fighters game which has both game and comic characters. I want Whisper to fight Infinite, I want Kit to tussle with Chaos, I want Classic Sonic to fight Shadow.
If IDW is canon, I want I TOTALLY WANT to see Scrapnik Island Mecha Sonic to be in a game. I want to see that sweet cute protective angstylord with his cool redemption arc and cape to grace my screen!
I still don't know how I feel about Prime being apparently canon to the games, I think I'd prefer for it to be its own thing but I'm absolutely a fan of IDW being canon! It means it's possible we can see all the characters from the comics appear in the games and thinking about that is just amazing.
what the sonic series needs is some sort of production bible: captures key story and design IP elements, rules of engagement, functionality and technical issues across multiple platforms, and an overview of the business/marketing plan. They sorta have it figured out for the marketing stuff, but with all the weird inconsistent things each game has done i really hope they find a way to make it somewhat coherent. give me back my blown-up moon in half from SA2 lmao
The best thing about this for me is that we finally got a character that is able to connect with Omega because Belle is canon now. I always felt like Omega was such a "solitary" character conceptually, with really the only other badnik betraying Eggman being Gamma (and we all know how he turned out) so with Belle being in the picture, we might be able to get some character development for Omega. ALSO HOLY SHIT IF SONIC TEAM MAKES A GAME ABOUT IDW I HOPE ITS WITH THE SURGE AND KIT ARC BECAUSE HOLY FUCK A PLAYABLE VERSION OF THE EGG EMPEROR AND SUPER EGGROBO MECH BATTLE WOULD GO SO FUCKING HARD LIKE I'M FUCKIN DROOLING JUST IMAGINING IT
@@emperortoho I understand your point, however the character trait of him sparing people has always been consistent. Chaos, Merlina, Shadow, Blaze, Sage, Etc. There was no point (within the main series of games) that Sonic didn't spare someone who could have been reasoned with. Yes I understand that different eras had different takes, however Sonic is still Sonic. A person who values freedom, who's passionate about adventure, too cool to be oppressed or pressured. Has a sense of justice and stands up for those who can't. Stands for what's right. Likes to rest and take things at his own pace. Those are consistent traits, no matter what era. That's what makes Sonic, Sonic. If you fail to notice this, I think you are confused on what Sonic is about, and thus perceive him differently. I think people lose that understanding. I think different eras express it differently. I agree. But it's still there. I respect your opinion.
@@emperortoho Ooh I see. I didn't mean to come off as arrogant. I know people understand the heart of his character besides me. Tons of fans do. I'm just saying that it's clear to me, that many people don't. Twitter has shown me that a lot of fans have a fantasized understanding of Sonic's character rather than what he actually is. To mold him into the image they want. Slightly or even drastic. Just my opinion from what I've seen.
Most of the people you mentioned sonic spared can't be seen as evil, just misguided or are not inherently malicious. I do hear that chaos is dead though. Sonic neuralized him but apparently killed him in the process. Hence, why he just floats off with tikal at the end of the game.
5:05 If you apply that when looking through Forces' story, Infinite is probably one of the villains that Sonic doesn't see any hope and expressed the closest thing to wanting him DEAD, as seen in their dialogue at the start of the final Infinite fight, the one where Infinite taunts him with an epitaph.
So from what I’ve read, they are cannon but take place in different times. Hence why sonics personality contradicts other versions, because he grew up and his personality changed as well as his outlooks on things.
I binged IDW in June '22 and I loved 'em (especially Whisper who has become my all-time second favorite character (Tails is first btw)). I had a good feeling they were canon, especially with Flynn at the helm in Frontiers. I want to see Whisper make a game appearance very much, especially a playable one. Overall, this is exactly what I wanted and I hope it gets acknowledged in the games. One downside (or upside, depending on how you see it) though: If Tangle, Whisper, etc made in game appearances, that would remove some amount of suspense since we would know they won't die.
I'd love to see an adaptation of Surge and Kit's story in the games. Of course, that would mean introducing them as if Sonic and friends never met them before (not just imply the IDW story happened and them appearing in-game is a follow-up), so we can get the full emotional baggage.
I'm down for IDW being canon (especially Whisper, Surge and Kit) but there is a piece of me that wishes they could salvage the original freedom fighters from Archie (most likely will never happen and I'm counting the cameos in Sonic Spinball). I really miss Bunnie Rabbot.
To be honest it would be so cool to see the cast of IDW in the games as integral parts to the plot and maybe even playable if they go that route, they all have very distinct personalities and motives and i think they’d work perfectly in the games, feeling fresh to see a whole new cast, while still maintaining reasons to read the comics if you’re interested in seeing more of them
My only worry about this is that new fans are going to find it hard to catch up not only to a full series worth of game lore, but now comics lore as well. That's going to be daunting to a lot of people, and I can only hope it doesn't push people away from the series
The only reason I'd want them to adapt the metal virus arc is to handle Shadow better, since I'm one of the many people that feel like he was done extremely dirty in that arc. I don't have a problem with the comic being canon, but I do think for those that aren't reading the comic its better to keep it as mostly references to not have people be completely lost on any of these things being included into the games out of nowhere.
I haven't read any of the IDW comics but I've heard many good things about them. I do hope these do get adapted into games in the future especially since, as you've said, many people who are into Sonic do not read the comics and a lot probably don't even know they exist unfortunately.
IDW integration is fascinating to me, largely because we have no clue what Sega of Japan thinks of any of this. Like yes, IDW characters are name dropped in Frontiers, but that’s all they are. Little Easter Eggs for fans. Only Sega of America employees and contractors have mentioned IDW’s ‘canonicity’ and outside some covers done for IDW, I haven’t seen IDW characters mentioned on the Japanese Twitter or Sonic Channel. So, to me, this feels like Sega of America keeping IDW relevant while Sega of Japan just keeps doing there own thing. But we’ll see, I mean, I’d love to see Surge or Tangle appear in a mainline game! Heck, I didn’t even know Surge was gonna be in Speed Battle, that owns!
I just wanna know who I gotta convince so the Archie characters can finally be apart of the modern franchise. They’ve been giving a lot of past characters new life, I’d love to see that for the Freedom Fighters. Also speaking of, I think you should get on Archie too
I think they should be seperate. But i'd love an ideal where a game would have references, either in the world [posters, npcs talking] or through Cameos [tangle swinging around in the distance, etc] or Sonic referencing idw events, like the zombots or Neo Metal's return. And the references shouldn't be too on the nose. If you spot it and you know, then you know.
I think comics should be unlockable in later games so people who only buy games will have a chance to read them. Not the most recent issues, but some story arcs that are relevant to this specific games' events.
I'm honestly glad that IDW is canon because its the only other piece of Sonic media that fits in well in the main canon compared to Archie, the 90's Sonic cartoons, X, ect
As someone who always assumed they were canon anyway since they pretty much Continued from Forces and just take place between the game adventures. so i guess it's nice to have confirmation.
@@reggielacey2235they (as of the IDW comics) still were always canon, most especially since it’s after the events of Forces, while having some during the events of Forces as flashbacks.
I don't care if one or two IDW comics storyline are shown in the next Sonic game. I also wanna see Dr. Starline introduced as another Sonic villain. While Dr. Eggman aka Robotnik is the mainstay. It wouldn't hurt to change up the story and have those two work together for a time then have a falling out. Both would go their separate ways.
I think something they could do is if they want to use a character like whisper or surge or whatever, just have them in the story with maybe a brief dialog explaining who they are. Lots of modern games include lore logs or recaps to help new players, they could just include an older issue or two that explains the character or the comic that links into the games story. That way we don't have to retread comic arcs in game form or make weird lore problems where we have to pretend these characters are new. That said game adaptations of comic arcs would be a good idea too!
Considering Sonic mentions Tangle by name in sonic Frontiers id very much believe so that IDW is canon and that makes me happy Seeing people get bent out of shape and genuinely upset by it being canon is really weird
All this means, to me, is that we’ll probably see characters from the comics in the games. Eventually, Tangle, Whisper and others will be in the main games rather than mobile spin-offs.
My personal opinion, I'm happy they're canon BUT I think they should've gone a super safe route where IDW is it's own timeline/canon. That way they can safely introduce the comic characters in Sonic Games for the first time as new characters and build their relationships from there. IDW will also be able to do whatever story they want without tying into the games.
In my opinion I feel like these Comics should be adapted as a TV show it would make more sense like in Japan when animation companies adapt manga into anime.
I don't think eggman should get as dark as he does in the comic because it becomes too hard to justify sonic continuing to let him live, and shadow even berates him for it saying he'll do it himself if sonic won't. The only thing that saved eggman there was that he lost his memory and became super nice. But an excuse like that can't be used again. But there's a balance to make him not too nice either, like in the boom series show where you just want them to hug and be friends and work together instead. Like imagine what tails and eggman could achieve together. And eggman finally gets to build a cool theme park if his dreams after all these years cuz there's room to compromise. Etc
Agreed, if the Metal Virus is canon to the games, then that means game Eggman deserves to be SHOT. If there's one thing I don't like about Ian Flynn, it's how he writes Eggman, which is basically Archie Robotnik in Eggman's body.
Ironic how Sonic Forces was received poorly by fans and critics alike. Yet the new comic series that takes place after the events of Forces, was liked by many people. I’d love to see the characters from the comics show up, it’d be interesting, seeing how Sage and others would interact with characters like Whisper or Mimic.
Back in 2017 when SEGA announce that they will make a new Sonic comic series and it said that it will places after Forces, i immediately know that it will be canon to the Sonic Video Game Universe.
Tbh I still think they need to fully map out what’s truly “canon” in Sonic or even what that means. We know due to the tailstube Classic Sonic after gens is a separate timeline so we this and the Sonic Twitter saying everything is canon leads me to believe there are multiple different timelines and universes with everything being canon in the sonic multiverse. So maybe IDW is just simply a different split timeline just like Classic Sonic, but again Sega really needs to layout an official Sonic timeline to make things more sense.
My main hope with this is that we get to see the new characters in the games, even if they’re just in spin-offs like TSR (even if that game sucked in terms of its roster), but preferably in the main series
And also in Frontiers amy mentioned Stick. But in all idw comic i read i never even see Stick in any of the comic even in the background, so where is she 😕
And to get rid of doubt about some characters not being a thing (cause I had to deal with someone saying something like that) having Sonic know Tangle basically indirectly confirms all the other major IDW characters, with Tangle comes Whisper and Jewel, and probably Belle, and with Whisper comes Mimic, and with Belle we get Starline and Surge and Kit
According to Ken Penders the settlement for the Archie comics could've been settled for like $2 but he has a tendency to stretch the truth. EIther way while it is sad that we're probably not going to see the return of the Archie character (although I hope SEGA really does bring them back), it's nice to at least have Ian Flynn be able to write for Sonic and ensure that the characters don't get bad interpretations of themselves
IDW being canon is the most plausible thing to have happened in the entirety of the Sonic franchise when it comes to continuities and canon from Comic books to games. I’m so happy that the IDW comics are canon now, it makes too much sense honestly.
I hope they do what Archie was doing at the end. Where they adapt the games to the comics (and maybe vice versa would be nice too). But I would love frontiers in the comics.
Ah, ok so I'm not fully caught up but I've read a bit of IDW and heard things about it. I think honestly introducing the characters in the game now would be difficult from a narrative standpoint because the characters know who they are but the average consumer does not so you would have to account for that. It's not like it's a deal-breaker but I figure the best way to do that is Sonic Heroes 2. Now I just came up with that out of nowhere but honestly I think that's fair. Have three of the new characters be their own team and you can hear more about them there. I'm not too sure about Surge and Kit but also I haven't gotten past chapter 50 so I'll get to it soon I suppose.
Idk anything about the comics, but I feel like not using the characters from IDW would be a huge waste. It would please comic fans, and it would make people who don't read them more interested in them, it's a win win for both
It's not so much the characters being introduced for me. It's the world inconsistencies. The comics and games desperately need to explain the disparities between different parts of the world. Where was GUN during Forces? Why is the technology of the cities we see in the Sonic Riders games so vastly futuristic compared to others, and why isn't that tech used in other parts of the world? If the Chaos Emeralds are tied to Dark and Light Gaia who have been in a constant cyclical battle since the beginning of time, how did the Ancients get their hands on them in the first place? Things like this can't (and shouldn't) just be swept under the rug if they're trying to make all of it canon.
My concern about them making IDW Sonic canon with the games is, do I need to read the comics to understand any future Sonic game? Also another thing is, if characters in Sonic IDW are also now canon and they exist in the Sonic games universe that raises the question of where were they during the events of Forces along with other games before Forces? Ugh, Sega just had to make something great feel overwhelming to understand. Is this a bad habit of theirs or something? 🙄
I remember, I mentioned the IDW comics being canon, and then somebody told me they’re not all that happened after frontiers, and after the confirmation
Given the rumblings of IDW as a company not doing so hot financially, it would be an absolute waste to not bring these character to the mainline games. Adapting their origin stories is a must though, as good as the comic is, people shouldn't be forced to read it if/when Surge just shows up in the games looking for a fight.
honest talk If this becomes canon It also shows that in the world of Sonic, a dangerous person at the same level as Eggman is now released. Sonic and friends can fight other than Sonic Although it could be deployed for their spin-off
Wait, idw was cannon? I always assumed it was cannon from the get go, after all wasnt it implied the metal virus saga takes place soon after the events of forces?

I thought we've talked about this before, for me comics are like sideline canon since you don't need to read them to understand what happens in games and vice versa, it's a safe way to avoid confusion on the timeline and etc. and for now the only ones that had were references, when I was talking about this with one of my friends we reached the point of "If they were going to put these characters in the games, the franchise would have many options to explore but they would have to be careful not to break this narrative system" because adapting comic stories would be good but at the same time it could interfere with the timeline because as much as I like the comic and most of the characters (except Starline) it has arcs that are not as interesting as Trial By Fire in my opinion and my friend said that he might also have the thought of "if they are going to adapt the comic arcs to the games then it wouldn't make much sense to follow the comics, t maybe some subtle quotes and references but natural enough for people who don't read the comics to understand who the characters are, what they do and etc would help a lot and maybe it would solve this problem without interfering too much with the timeline and could still make people curious to read the comics and see the details more closely" maybe bringing the characters into the games would help to complement part of the story arcs that were limited because of the default of each arc having between 4-5 issues not to mention the possible mechanics they could bring to the games both in terms of combat with Tangle using the tail, Lanolin using the bell, Whisper having shooting mechanics and long-distance attacks and using the Wispon to explore the surroundings, Surge and Kit, Clutch with his characteristic skills among many others it's hard to deduce what will happen now but if they made that decision it's because they probably have something in mind how it will work, but whether we will have IDW cast in the actual games or not it's just a matter of time to find out

One thing they could maybe add is they could have collectibles in a future game where getting them unlocks comic issues of IDW you could read in an extras menu.
OH YEA
So glad IDW’s canon!! Having any of the gang from idw in the games would be so cool!
AGREE
I think the best thing for them to do is have both the comic team and Sonic Team directly collaberating with each other characters and ideas that they can bith use but can keep the ongoing stories in both games seperate while having all the characters showing up and being canon
This definitely has a lot of potential. Especially for gameplay, imagine swinging around like spider man as tangle.
This is it, I don't like the idea of having to read the comics to understand the games
@@Probably_CLOUD fr making it that a casual has to read the comics to understand why random new characters just appeared and seem to know the rest of the cast is poor decision making especially since the comics are a 6/10 at best and not everyone will want to read them
@@bowserbreaker2515 bro is exactly me
I love that the comics are canon to the games, it just makes the franchise as a whole seem more cohesive and united.
A. it's cool they're expanding the sonic universe with these existing characters and stories
I always knew the comics were canon
They’re just slowly building up to the events of Sonic frontiers
If IDW is canon, I want I TOTALLY WANT to see Scrapnik Island Mecha Sonic to be in a game. I want to see that sweet cute protective angstylord with his cool redemption arc and cape to grace my screen!
I still don't know how I feel about Prime being apparently canon to the games, I think I'd prefer for it to be its own thing but I'm absolutely a fan of IDW being canon! It means it's possible we can see all the characters from the comics appear in the games and thinking about that is just amazing.
I really think Kitsunami's abilities would be pretty cool in a Sonic game, working kinda like Super Mario Sunshine.
what the sonic series needs is some sort of production bible: captures key story and design IP elements, rules of engagement, functionality and technical issues across multiple platforms, and an overview of the business/marketing plan. They sorta have it figured out for the marketing stuff, but with all the weird inconsistent things each game has done i really hope they find a way to make it somewhat coherent. give me back my blown-up moon in half from SA2 lmao
Agree LOL
You got your wish for the moon🫡
Starline isn't a duck he is a platapuy like Parry.
ALSO HOLY SHIT IF SONIC TEAM MAKES A GAME ABOUT IDW I HOPE ITS WITH THE SURGE AND KIT ARC BECAUSE HOLY FUCK A PLAYABLE VERSION OF THE EGG EMPEROR AND SUPER EGGROBO MECH BATTLE WOULD GO SO FUCKING HARD LIKE I'M FUCKIN DROOLING JUST IMAGINING IT
I think Sonic is very consistently written in IDW in regards to sparing enemies with hope. I think fans don't know Sonic like they think they do.
@@misterholmes221which brings back to the whole "fans don't get Sonic" argument it sounds too absolute and dismissive
@@infern209x I'm not offended at all. Just stating what I think it looks like.
I'm pretty hyped that IDW is canon. Means Mecha finally got a good ending
THATS TRUE
Ian also wrote a large amount of the Archie books, man just gets Sonic
I'd love to see an adaptation of Surge and Kit's story in the games. Of course, that would mean introducing them as if Sonic and friends never met them before (not just imply the IDW story happened and them appearing in-game is a follow-up), so we can get the full emotional baggage.
Bro the amount of games they could make with concepts from the idw comics will go super hard
10:55 gemerl does not come from idw it comes from Sonic advance 3
Sorry if I make mistakes in English I'm bad
No worries LOL
I'm down for IDW being canon (especially Whisper, Surge and Kit) but there is a piece of me that wishes they could salvage the original freedom fighters from Archie (most likely will never happen and I'm counting the cameos in Sonic Spinball). I really miss Bunnie Rabbot.
I've seen mentions of the idw comic team trying to convince sega to bring back some of them but it's definitely a bit of a long shot
I just hope that this doesn’t cause any continuity errors in the games.
It probably will
To be honest it would be so cool to see the cast of IDW in the games as integral parts to the plot and maybe even playable if they go that route, they all have very distinct personalities and motives and i think they’d work perfectly in the games, feeling fresh to see a whole new cast, while still maintaining reasons to read the comics if you’re interested in seeing more of them
Would be FIRE
My only worry about this is that new fans are going to find it hard to catch up not only to a full series worth of game lore, but now comics lore as well. That's going to be daunting to a lot of people, and I can only hope it doesn't push people away from the series
Yea I DONT think they’d convolute it
The only reason I'd want them to adapt the metal virus arc is to handle Shadow better, since I'm one of the many people that feel like he was done extremely dirty in that arc.
I hope they make a sonic manga
MHMMMM
L TAKE ON THE SEPARATION
Everyone forgot shadow writing
I'm honestly glad that IDW is canon because its the only other piece of Sonic media that fits in well in the main canon compared to Archie, the 90's Sonic cartoons, X, ect
You can't tell me the same Sonic who Was scared of fodder motobugs is the same one who was willing to Die fighting the titans
MHM LOL
Considering Sonic mentions Tangle by name in sonic Frontiers id very much believe so that IDW is canon and that makes me happy
Seeing people get bent out of shape and genuinely upset by it being canon is really weird
In my opinion I feel like these Comics should be adapted as a TV show it would make more sense like in Japan
when animation companies adapt manga into anime.
OH THAT COULD BE SICK
10:55 Bro though we wouldn't notice Gemerl. 🗿
As a metal sonic fan... this is a big BIG win for me
W W W W
5:35 I agree with all characters as well
I don't think eggman should get as dark as he does in the comic because it becomes too hard to justify sonic continuing to let him live, and shadow even berates him for it saying he'll do it himself if sonic won't.

Agree
I wish we could get an anime adaptation for the IDW comics. We haven't had a Sonic anime since Sonic X.
OH YES
@@infern209xyeah it’s possible to have an anime tho
an anime adaptation would actually be a great idea, could appeal a bit more to the japanese audience who might not find the american comics accessible
Can you imagine the Metal Virus arc in the video games? That would be insane! My favorite arc by far
My main hope with this is that we get to see the new characters in the games, even if they’re just in spin-offs like TSR (even if that game sucked in terms of its roster), but preferably in the main series
And also in Frontiers amy mentioned Stick. But in all idw comic i read i never even see Stick in any of the comic even in the background, so where is she 😕
Maybe the IDW can be introduced in a new racing game's story mode.
I wonder if we'll get any of the IDW sonic characters in the sonic games
BROO, I HOPE THAT WE'LL GET THE IDW CHARACTERS IN THE GAMES (LIKE WHISPER AND TANGLE) !!!
I adote that IDW is canon it's the only comic I actively follow anymore, the gremlin inside of me wants almost every arc to become an actual game.

It would please comic fans, and it would make people who don't read them more interested in them, it's a win win for both
Agreed 1000%
Agreed
My concern about them making IDW Sonic canon with the games is, do I need to read the comics to understand any future Sonic game? Also another thing is, if characters in Sonic IDW are also now canon and they exist in the Sonic games universe that raises the question of where were they during the events of Forces along with other games before Forces? Ugh, Sega just had to make something great feel overwhelming to understand. Is this a bad habit of theirs or something? 🙄

Hence why IDW characters are featured in Speed Battle and Dash. 😎

Given the rumblings of IDW as a company not doing so hot financially, it would be an absolute waste to not bring these character to the mainline games. Adapting their origin stories is a must though, as good as the comic is, people shouldn't be forced to read it if/when Surge just shows up in the games looking for a fight.
Didn’t know that first bit. BIG POINT
I’ve been a fan since the art in 2018, when I was a lot younger! Even school.

I thought we've talked about this before, for me comics are like sideline canon since you don't need to read them to understand what happens in games and vice versa, it's a safe way to avoid confusion on the timeline and etc. and for now the only ones that had were references, when I was talking about this with one of my friends we reached the point of "If they were going to put these characters in the games, the franchise would have many options to explore but they would have to be careful not to break this narrative system" because adapting comic stories would be good but at the same time it could interfere with the timeline because as much as I like the comic and most of the characters (except Starline) it has arcs that are not as interesting as Trial By Fire in my opinion and my friend said that he might also have the thought of "if they are going to adapt the comic arcs to the games then it wouldn't make much sense to follow the comics, t maybe some subtle quotes and references but natural enough for people who don't read the comics to understand who the characters are, what they do and etc would help a lot and maybe it would solve this problem without interfering too much with the timeline and could still make people curious to read the comics and see the details more closely" maybe bringing the characters into the games would help to complement part of the story arcs that were limited because of the default of each arc having between 4-5 issues not to mention the possible mechanics they could bring to the games both in terms of combat with Tangle using the tail, Lanolin using the bell, Whisper having shooting mechanics and long-distance attacks and using the Wispon to explore the surroundings, Surge and Kit, Clutch with his characteristic skills among many others it's hard to deduce what will happen now but if they made that decision it's because they probably have something in mind how it will work, but whether we will have IDW cast in the actual games or not it's just a matter of time to find out
WE WILL FIND OUT FOR SURE
Or they should make a game about the IDW Sonic Comics and about the arcs. Like, The Zombot Arc.
Considering Sticks was name-dropped in Frontiers that's a good thing the IDW comics are canon because *PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BRING HER BACK* ! 😂
