The moment I saw Tangle’s design, I immediately said, “I want her to be a playable character in a new game.”

i'd love for her gameplay to revolve around momentum and bouncing herself around with her tail, maybe she'd have an smb2 super jump-like move or an enhanced wall jump ability, or if characters shared levels, she could have some exclusive routes which sometimes are accessed with a grappling move
I do agree that’s a good idea, but I think we should stick with more obscure characters that deserve more of a chance to return from not appearing in so long. My pick would be Cosmo

I really do love Tangle, she’s a simple character with a fun and quirky personality, great design, and has really fun interactions between characters, I’d be totally on board for having her in the games.

Something I found interesting is that Tangle & Whisper got official merchandise being sold on Sega's online store, that's a first for a comic character being recognized like that. Now with that plus the comics finally releasing in Japan, it seems that Sega is putting more investment with the idw series than they ever had with Archie.

Ngl tangle is probably one of my favorite new characters from the sonic series.
One her design actually not only has some of the best coloring but a design that complements that.

I really like Tangle and Whisper. They are a very interesting dynamic.
Tangle and Whisper would be great in the mainline Sonic games. Perfect game material right there.

imo whisper does a much better job of having the whole "sniper/scout" motif
@@yourehereforthatarentyou fang doesn't use it alot of a sniper rifle in the archie comics, that's true; but fang is his AMERICAN name, while Fang the SNIPER is his Japanese name, and he actually appears in some videogames.
Also you can snipe without a snipe rifle. And the fact he can get good shots while moving on his tail, with a hand gun, makes him way better at the sniper gig than whisper. Plus, like shadow, both use REAL guns, more or less.

My theory: Both Tangle and Whisper are the comic creator's stand-ins for "Buddy", the avatar from Sonic Forces.
- Tangle takes the fans' "I wana be friends with Sonic instantly" mentality, while her tail represents that character's grappling hook that s/he uses.
- Whisper is the fans' "I wanna make a cool, edgy character" mentality, while her wispon-gun represents "Buddy"'s own wispons that s/he can select (in Whisper's case, all of them).
Since both characters are, as mentioned, two extremes of one another, they fit pretty much any aspect that a player could place into their avatar.

@@Whispangle Well, I suppose not as edgy as Shadow, but her origin story and general mood is a lot more subdued. I guess "darker" is a better way to describe it, compared to Tangle's "peppy" demeanor.
I think they represent the two main gameplay elements of the avatar: the grapple line, and the wispon.

Unlikely, the comics are only just starting to release in Japan this May. The addition of comic characters in general is unlikely, sure it's not impossible and Sega does 100% own this character unlike the Archie OC's that are partially owned by their respective comic leads, I would let Sega know there's demand and be hopeful for later games.

Whisper is the only reason to keep the wisps around. Period. Buuuuuuuuuut the games do really need to keep it basic now, even if they go the piece-meal story Adventure route again. I mean, Tangle and Whisper as background characters, maybe doing things in levels to aid whoever's level it is (think Wedge distracting the dogs in that one topside mission from Final Fantasy VII Remake) could work well, and I do ADORE the two of them as characters and as a duo, but no. Not now. Not a good time to throw them in.

It's really nice of you to introduce Tangle to more people here, since i know there is some that doesn't know her or Whisper. Honestly, she is one of the best characthers introduced in the series. I think what made me love her so much is her relationship with whisper. Especially in their Spin-Off comics. They really care for each other and it's one of the most adorable things ever. As much as i want to see both of them in the games, i am afraid that Sonic Team will (and i definitely know they will) ruin these characthers. That's why we need Ian Flynn or other writer in the games that knows these characthers that well.
Ian Flynn doesn't know the characters. He shouldn't be on the games. Shiro Maekawa, Kiyoko Yoshimura, and Akinori Nishiyama along with Yuji Naka and Naoto Oshima do.

Tangle is easily my favorite character in the IDW Comics.
I love her personality and her Design I also agree with you that she (along with whisper) needs to be in the games cause they both have a lot of potential gameplay wise

you know your characters are good when the first thing that comes to my mind ,when i see them for the first time, is "Wow i want them in game", I know nothing about Tangle Whisper and Jewel yet I'm already in love with how they're designed and the tiny bit of info i got about them! (come on sega, give us sonic heroes 2...)
Every new character from IDW really hit it off for me they all fit in the sonic universe and Tangle is the best of the best
Ian Flynn really knows how to make characters and story (unlike some other comic artist out there) i never cared about archie original character to be represented on the games, but tangle and whisper are so well made that i really want them on a future sonic game, also let's make the petition for flynn to write the next sonic game pls
They should experiment with Flynn to see what happens. If reception in story alone is strong, get him whenever he has the chance. If reception is weak, go back to whomever they’re using (Pontec and Graff were fired, and thank God they were).

I think Team Diamond would be a good name for them, because those who have seen the miniseries for Tangle and Whisper, the wolf’s team was called the Diamond Cutters (that’s as far as I’ll go with spoilers for those who haven’t seen it). In addition, Tangle has a peppy attitude and brilliance similar to that of a diamond, and Jewel just looks like one for God’s sake.
As far as how the formation goes, Whisper handles pretty much all of those standpoints: she can fly with Hover and bash and destroy with the other Wisps. But I would limit her to a power type, because Jewel doesn’t really do much other than fly and I haven’t seen her be of other use so she’s the flyer. Tangle would be the speed type, because of her tail she can shoot herself and her team for good distances, and can hold her own pretty well.
That’s just what I think of this, anyone’s free to tweak things and give some information I may not know

Why do lemurs look scary and adorable at the same time
In the real life animal's case, it's those big, staring eyes contrasted with their overly social attitude. So, a lemur could legit emotionelessly stare at you with psychopathic levels of interest (from a human's perspective) while eating berries, petting your hair or grooming their children.
In Tangle's case, it's because she's a genuinely good person with abnormal levels of excitement for everything she does.
Like, there are panels in the comics where she has genuinely evil smiles while asking for... Hugs.

This video is my first introduction to this character, and I already want her in a game. (Granted, I also want more Blaze the Cat, but I'm kinda like you in the "More the merrier" crowd.)
That IDW art looks awesome!
Tangle is just an adorable, buzzy ball of energy and I love her! She leaps in completely unafraid, and her character growth is steady - not abrupt, but not a crawl that makes you bang your head against the wall. She reminds me of Bunnie, with her crazy tail like Bunnie's arms and her can do attitude.
I also love her whole look; they really chose her colors carefully, and they blend together so well. Such a restful palate for such an energetic character.
She was confirmed along with Whisper for Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, one step closer to appear in a video game!
I wonder... In the Distant Future, will you ever cover "Console Wars" by Blake J. Harris? It contains the original origin story for Tails and you can't have the history of SEGA without Sonic.

Tangle is so spontaneous and zippy, I love her character. Can't wait to hear what you've got to say about Whisper, too. I'm really fond of Whisper because of how introverted she is, probably coming from an introverted person like myself.
Tangle is Awsome, She is a fun character, same goes to Whisper, if IDW brings the Satam Characters in with new origins and designs, I like to See Tangle and Whisper meet Sally and Bunnie and become good friends XD, or Rotor amazed by the Wispon Whisper carries and would like to make upgrades versions of them and Antoine being himself as always.

When I saw issue 27, I was really sad because of what happened because my childhood is the Sonic Advance series and Sonic Battle.
Tangle has what I like to call “ADHD crackhead energy”. Just straight up chaotic good. Absolutely my favorite character from the IDW comics.
Also I envision her of having an Australian accent and none of you can convince me otherwise.
I am stoked to read more about her. I only recently came across the first and fourth trades of the ISW run, and since I haven't found 2 and 3 yet I've only read the first. I really love what was in there already (I'm glad I wasn't the only one raising an eyebrow at Tangle's expressions when tail-flinging, though I figured those were just "exertion" faces), and really can't wait to see more.
Your other vid regarding the beginning of the IDW run was mucho helpful too, since I had no context going in as to what kind of continuity we were dealing with (and have basically only truly played through the classic series an a bit of Adventure 1).

Good video! Glad more and more people are getting acquainted with the cast of IDW's Sonic comics. It's a damn shame it's currently on hiatus given the [REDACTED], but considering how they've been expanding this particular canon using Sonic Forces as a launchpad, I can't help but appreciate the work both the writers and the artists onboard have put into it so far.

4:29 Ristar might be the most criminally underused character Sega has ever had. He got one amazing Genesis game 25 years ago, and a pretty decent port on Game Gear. It's hard to believe he's been limited to rare cameos after all this time. Nobody wants to see a genuine demigod be limited to waving flags around at a racetrack. The dude travels between planets at light speed, and that was when he was basically a newborn. There's no telling what else he can do.
Tangle is is one of the best comic characterswe've gotten in years. I know its unlikely but it'd be great she made the jump to games. I see allot of potential in that stretchable tail of hers.
Tangle's tail reminds me of Sonic's wherehog form, and how it's very flexible and stretchy and at the same time it's strong and can easily destroy eggman's robots.

I just caught up on IDW Sonic last night, including reading Tangle and Whisper and the first two issues of Bad Guys. I absolutely want to watch the rest of these now!
Tangle is a great addition to the Sonic series. I just love her extroverted, hyper personality. Whenever she fangasms over something cool, it makes me smile😊. And her elastic tail is very cool. Imagine her being playable in the games. She would defiently be interesting to use. Anyways, while I do love her, she isn't my favourite. That goes to another IDW hero that you will hopefully talk about in the future.
@Manek Iridius Despite her personality sorta being what I said, it isn't in a way where you want to punch her. She is still compotent and doesn't annoy anyone. Maybe "hyper" wasn't the right word to use. I think "energetic" or "excitable" are better words for her personality.

It's been a while since I've read the archie stuff, and I was not even gonna bother getting into a new continuity with Sonic comics, but this video has made me very interested in picking the series up. I just bought the first three volumes on amazon. Looking forward to reading them. Still miss Sally, tho...
For anyone who misses pre-reboot Archie, let them know about Archie Sonic Online, a fan made continuation of pre-reboot Archie. There are not many comics, but it gives me my fill on the Freedom Fighters
This video made my night. I've utterly adored most, if not, all of the new characters added by IDW. With that, I've gotta admit something. I've never liked the Freedom Fighters. I did not like their designs (until later renditions) and I've always felt they did not fit with the Sonic aesthetic personally. I'm aware of some story beats (most revolving around Sally and Bunny) but even then, I did not catch their charms. So really, I'm hoping that you can highlight what makes the Freedom Fighters so great and why so many people like them.
i know this was 5 months ago but whatever...
i have to contest the idea they didn't fitt in, i would say some (rotor) don't really fit in, i would argue others (like sally and bunny) are about rogue the bat level most of the time (there are issues where they are drawn in a different style tho) or closer to tails. and sally's earliest form is extremely similar to classic sonic and tales.
I related to Tangle so much when she was in that safe, cuz I'm super claustrophobic too :P

That was another great video. Tangle and Whisper are probably my two favorite characters in the book so far. I really really want to see these characters in a game. Tangle could be a lot of fun to play as. Not to spoil the arc, but the arc so far has that sort of Sonic Game setup. I don't think it'll happen, but if they really are trying to unify Sonic media, it'd be amazing to see this arc in a game format. Optimistic thinking, I know. At the very least i'd love to see Tangle and/or Whisper in a game, playable or not.

Not gonna lie. I haven't caught myself up with IDW Sonic Comic yet, but this video makes me want to put all of my personal responsibilities aside just to read those comics 😆😆😆
Tangled does have a nice design. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff on her design, but the colors and shapes balance all of it out
Im kinda half a sonic fan. Mostly care about the universe because of the robots (Im a sucker for anything mechanical), but ive definitely learned a lot about the characters and games since then. And after seeing a decent amount of archie sonic comics, id say I much prefer this style of comic. Everything really feels like it could be in the actual sonic universe, and not its own separate universe like the archie comics were. And tangles design is amazing, brilliant use of colors, shape, and sonics art style in general.
It makes me excited for the next major sonic game or TV show, hopefully they can include the new characters in the comics.
This is also a great character breakdown. Introducing and exploring a character with little spoilers is pretty impressive. It goes to show how much you actually understand how well written the character is. Especially since the better writing gets, the harder it is to pinpoint personality, flaws, and plot elements.
She's a neat character! I wonder if a future follow-up to Mania will incorporate any of the "expanded universe" characters. It's probably a long-shot, but you never know.. And one can hope.

I’d love to see you cover the Archie series in all of the instances it does cover the games, and certainly any coverage on characters like Nack, Ray, Chaotix, etc

Regarding tangle, I really do love her design. Who better than Tyson to nail a sonic design? Her character I do love too, just for the fact that she seems enthralled by everything sonic and crew does. It just perfectly evokes an outsider perspective on what sonic does in universe, if that makes sense. While I had to finish my subscription to IDW sonic around the time of Tangle and whisper issue 4 (thanks forbidden planet), that whole mini story thing was fantastic. Everyone’s said it, even you in the video, but these 2 especially need to appear in a game. They’d fit perfectly. The writers just seem to have a lot of fun with tangle whenever she’s on page so I can only imagine what game devs would be like with her. She’s just a fun character.

Tangle is basically a version of sonic so maybe her having claustrophobia is like sonic fear of water
Tangle’s optimism and lovable attitude are why I really want her in a game, she’d be a great contrast to all the moping that seems to be going on in Forces & Frontiers, she’d be a welcome ray of sunshine. But then again, it would also be heartbreaking to see her getting beaten down and put in harms way, just like in the Metal Virus arc.
I don’t like Whisper much, but her reaction to Tangle getting infected was pretty much the same as mine.
