- A freak un-named winter storm wreaked havoc from Florida to New England the week before Christmas. Join Mitch as she explores PassAGrille and Sunset Beaches immediately following this unexpected wild storm event, looking at new shells washed in and new damage to the dunes with sand washed out.

New to this channel...loved it. you are great. Learned a lot and admire how you can venture around with a walker. I have walking sticks but would faceplant in the sand, I'm sure....lol

its the super shelling session from the day i did the lido and longboat beach report. the beach was covers with shells and i found lots of really cool stuff! :D

Michelle, how do you feel about them using old ripped up concrete / or big rocks to shore up the dunes before they add fresh sand.
i have mixed feelings about it -
on the one had - without all that stuff there the bottom of pass a grille would be destroyed for sure.
and Florida, geologically speaking, doesn't really have a lot of native rock with the exception of limestone... which is not that strong compared to granite and other things.. so, since we have actual cement plants here in florida, we are in a way using what it is we have access to
its not very attractive though. i can agree on that..
its sort of what we have to do tho. when a place gets torn down the concrete can go to a landfill or it can come protect coastline...
and there is concrete that has been exposed near the water line, like at Longboat Key which i showed in that beach report. a longer video is coming of that shell run too cuz i found great stuff ... but anyways, you can see these big concrete walls and stuff that were buried under the sand.
goes to show how much the coast line changes i guess.... that they have been battling it for decades because they built on barrier islands before they realized how much they move
