    • @echouebijoux
      @echouebijoux 14 дней назад

      there are about 40 spots blocked off on the gulf side immediately near the jetty, including the handicap spaces. on that street there is parking on the ocean and on the house side... and there are spaces on the house side. there's also spaces at the dog beach side too. go get at the rocks, you will need to park over at dog beach side and walk around the bottom ... the rocks themself have a fencing around the ROCKS because the dredge pipe is going over them BUT the flats by the rocks and the lil beach there is accessible if you come in from the dog beach side. Hope that helps!

I have a little bag of jingles, too, and I was thinking... i have some thin kevlar cord, heavier than thread... I think if I tied knots along a piece of it at irregular intervals, I could glue each knot to the back of a jingle shell. wellllll funny you should mention that... yesterday we went to PAG to SHELL TALK WITH GARY - He is a master Naturalist and does a free talk once a month at Paradise Grill. Gary says the small broken pieces on the beach are clearly not alive nor viable and that they CAN be collected.... i contacted Fish and Wildlife a few weeks back, and never got an answer from them so i may have to actually drive up to their office and get a definitive answer.....and that i will have to schedule cuz they aren't real close by... I CAN'T ADVISE OTHERS WHAT TO DO >>>YET>>> But as for me, i have been a fossil junky a while now, and i can tell by looking at many pieces if i have fossil stuff or not most of the time ....so if I find fossil stuff, then yes i will keep. Great video!! Have a few questions if you don’t mind, I’m new to shelling. 1. What tide chart do you use? You had it down to the minute. 2. From Venice beach up do you know of any good spots to find fossilized shells?

    • @echouebijoux
      @echouebijoux 22 дня назад

      thank you very much! You might also like a video from about a month ago where we went sharking and shell hunting in the same day :) it was called FOSSIL HUNTING IN FL, i think... 1. For Tides, I use an app called TIDES. i used to use Tideschart website a lot too - but recently their website kicked me off for checking too many places in too short of a period of time. I couldn't use it or like 3 days, that's when i went and got the TIDES app. Available from google play - not sure about iPhone tho... 2. To find fossil shells - you can check landscaping piles pretty much anywhere in sarasota and manatee counties. you can also find a LARGE pile of them out on Egmont Key on the trails... check sand bag filling stations when we have a storm coming... or there are a few river locations that you will want to check out. Upstate near brooksville and center hill, suwannee river, and there is a spot in port charlotte are that also has the older eocene and oligocene stuff too... ALSO - check the bags of shells ad rock out in from of lowes. you can literally buy bags of fossils from sanford and other areas of Florida that are FULL of fossil shells. And of course if you get lucky enough to know someone who's doing some new construction, absolutely ask to look at whatever they dig up out of a hole! Fossil hunting in FL used to be much easier, but these days it's harder to find places to go. For more o the vertebrate stuff definitely the alachua and peace rivers are where to go.

      @@TZKT21 Did you know that FL has been under and above water 4 times in the last 65 million years that they are aware of? that holds true for GA AL Carolinas and other areas around the gulf too - there is a huge ridge that drops of out in the middle that stretches from texas to here. the coastline at 1 time was 100 miles offshore in the gulf, at another it was 75 miles inland and there was no Everglades, it was all a huge inland shallow sea! The whole region is known as the Coastal Plain, and certain areas of it are particularly rich in fossils... charleston, for example, has OLDER than megladon short teeth fossils, from the C. I’ve lived in FL my whole life. Did not know those white shells were fossils. Been shelling lots of times on east coast and keys mainly. Had a nice little collection as a kid. We made shell trees and a dry aquarium. What do you do with all your shells, especially the fossils?

Stay tuned to my channel because i am currently working a wedding video (part of a series) that shows you how to do your wedding flowers out of shells! :D and as we get closer to the holidays, there will be another one on fall (halloween + thanksgiving) and christmas decorations too :) And I am glad that you know all those lil white shells are fossils now too! I am fascinated with them, and have a couple videos with lots of fossils identified in them... another one is already in the works from a recent trip where we found just MONSTER huge AMAZING Fossils - and we stumbled into them by complete accident too lol! Check out the Easter Eg-Hunt at Egmont video, we lucked into a big fossil pile over there as well lol!

    Great video! I was hoping they would separate some sand and shells during the dredging and we could shell hunt a bit. Did you see anything like that or with the beach access blocked is that impossible?

    • @echouebijoux
      @echouebijoux Месяц назад

      I have not seen any signs that they are separating the shells from the sand unfortunately - but the beach is all blocked off too. its technically possible that they are behind the equipment...but i have not seen any sign of that at all so far. the sand is also not coming from an offshore sand spot that's deep either - its coming from over near the op of shel key because sand has been choking a channel. so we will have to see what kind of shells wash out once they are done this phase! we dont have the go ahead for phase 2 yet so we will be able to see what's what when this phase wraps up. its a fraction of what they want/need to renourish

    I think that the number one reason they do the beach renurishment is because tourism is the number one money maker for the state. They probably make back the dollars in taxation for rentals, hotels, car rentals, as well as a other tourist activities. It's a sustainable industry that's very lucrative. Your report was VERY informative, and I hope they keep it up. It's saving the coastline in Florida. In Ohio, we are having the same issue with the Great Lakes. The lakes keep eroding the shores, and in this case, it's up to the individual homeowners to repair the coastline if it's their yard that abuts the shore. No Army Corp of Engineers to bail them out, period. Some communities have park land on the shores, and it's a huge expense for a community to bear. As far as perpetuity? You can't take it with you!

    • @echouebijoux
      @echouebijoux Месяц назад

      thank you so much - I worked pretty hard on this one to get good info together and present both sides of things.. renourishment --- its a catch 22... renourishment is necessary because infrastructure is at risk - but the trouble too is that when some of this infrastructure was put in place, the coastline was a lot different. There's a fellow who's been in a few of my videos, Master Naturalist Gary - i run into him a lot at Pass A Grille actually. He was showing me this chunk of coral rock on the beach near the rocks at PAG - its distinctive, has a hole through it. He told me he has pictures of him reaching up and the hole being 7 feet above the sand line. This spring before they closed the area off, that same rock with the hole, the hole was like 8 inches above the sand. The bottoms of these barrier islands are growing and the tops are getting wiped out ... pinellas, manatee, sarasota counties its the same on the islands. That's the trouble with barrier islands and keys., they move. and most of the ones i see seem to me moving southward.... A fantastic example is the dome houses down near the 10k island area - they started on land and within 20 years they were completely inaccessible and uninhabitable. so - yes renourishment needs to be done to protect homes, to protect infrastructure... but GAWD its expensive - and at times, almost seems futile. I was out at sunset beach right after the repaired dunes were finished then we went again after some winter storms and the brand new repair dunes were obliterated. so its a never ending battle on the beach between mother nature and man ... but one we must continue

    • @echouebijoux
      @echouebijoux Месяц назад

      in a manner of speaking, yes... tax dollars set aside by pinellas and by state of florida too for beach erosion repairs. honestly, altho i understand some of the resistance on the part of the homeowners, if i was one of them i would want it fixed. i have seen firsthand how much disappeared over on longboat key and it was staggering - some of those homes had the dunes piled against their homes 3 feet high and the beach was stripped and ocean was getting to where folks had grass - i mean like BAD. it can happen so fast... 1 storm can make a huge difference. and we had MANY this winter. Like 1 A WEEK for a while...

    • @echouebijoux
      @echouebijoux Месяц назад

      Thank you so much! and YES you can ABSOLUTELY GET TO THE BEACH by Paradise Grill and The Hurricane! The lower down area being renourished is blocked off but there is access at and above Paradise Grille right now. That area is supposed to be Phase 2, but without the easement issue resolved it doesn't look like Phase 2 has the green light right now. When you hit the beach at Paradise Grill itself, the high tide makes it to the sea wall but at low tide you'll find some shells and some broken up frit... above that tho, its as it always is in the summer - a good selection of smaller shells with a few bigger ones mixed in. Keep your eyes peeled for Alternate and Speckled Tellins around that area, too.. i have gotten very lucky around there on many occasions!

If I can save up some funds, I am hoping to upgrade to the next generation of GoPro - that would let me use a wireless mic, which would help incredibly on the windy beaches and save me a lot of audio tweaking edit time for sure... when Im in front of the computer i just need to make sure I speak loudly enough - but when we are in windy conditions with the GoPro, it's tough to get clean audio in the winds :)
