Wow Michelle! Thanks for the video. That was very interesting but sad. I forgot about it being spring break in Florida , so super crowded. I bet it makes it harder to shell too.
It was bittersweet sort of - amazing to see a whale that close but unfortunate it passed. Given that it was very underweight, I dont believe there was much they could have done to stop the inevitable. And taking it out to sea is what happened this morning - so that it goes back into the ecosystem and provides food for all the other critters.
I know it was weird to me too - given that this is the SHARK TOOTH CAPITAL in Venice, and we have both modern alive sharks as well as fossil ones, i was very surprised more people did not move away from the blood. i mean, sheesh, lol, these folks are all the right age to have seen Shek Week, right? :D
i think they could only get the one - they sort of had to act quick that morning once they knew it expired. its not like everyone just has these big pieces of equipment both close enough to help AND available for the work at that moment too. The strap breaking was very scary tho and that could have gone sideways quick, so i am glad no one was hurt - cuz pieces of stuff went flying all over...
