I remember this from 1971. One of the first TV-movies that was produced by Disney. It premiered during an episode of "The Wonderful World of Disney" which at the time was on NBC-TV. NBC aired "The Wonderful World of Disney" for an impressive 23 years on television from 1961 until 1983. And Mitch Vogel was one hot property during the early 1970's whom at the time was still doing "Bonanza". And Mike Lookinland was doing "The Brady Bunch" when this movie aired.

I'm almost sure this beautiful tune is being sung by Joan Baez and her sister Mimi Farina.

I remember Mitch Vogel. He became a regular on Bonanza from Sep. 1970 until the end of the series.

Had I known in what direction Disney television was headed, I would have taped everything in sight--I really miss all the old "music" cartoons and the "Wonderful World of Disney" and "Walt Disney Presents" features of my childhood.

Beautiful opening theme--who sings this? Does anyone know?
I saw this feature very late one August night back in 2001 on the Disney channel, along with several animated shorts from the fifties and sixties. This must have been shortly after the Disney channel's cable debut, before its "original" programming had been developed, because back-to-back classic cartoons were being offered then, even episodes of the old Mickey Mouse Club (including Spin and Marty!).

I think the singer is Lisa (Eliza) Gilkyson, the daughter of the composer Terry Gilkyson.

Has anybody the lyrics or even better the guitar notes of it?
What is the official name of the intro song?
Who composed and sung it (Buddy Baker or Terry Gilkyson // Mimi Farina or ???)
When I search the internet for it, I just find another song with the name 'Bayou boy' by 'Evangeline' ... :-( ...
I am totally addicted to this song.
I am a German 43 year old and I saw this movie in my childhood and it is, like this song was written in my heart since then.
I really, really would like to start playing guitar just to learn this song.
Can anyone help me please ...?

I tried to write down the lyrics (I am not sure - especially between the question marks... because I am German with not the best English knowledge/teached english listening ... Do you think I am right? What does 'spanish most wavin' mean ?)
      Bayou Boy
out of the movie The Boy From Dead Mans Bayou (1971)
      composed by Buddy Baker !
      written by Terry Gilkyson ?
      sung by Mimi Farina ?
      -->
The song of the bayou is soft as the mist.
On the quiet black water the sun 's never kissed.
It's the sound of the whippoorwill lost in the trees (Schwarzkehl-Nachtschwalbe)
The > (?) spanish most wavin' (?) < on a light morning breeze.
      Come along, come along,
      bring your sorrow and joy,
      along with the dreams,
      of a lone bayou boy.
Hear the old bullfrog sing in a deep mellow bass.
Hear a silver bell ring from a dark secret place.
Where the possum play possum when they see a strange face. (wo das Oppossum sich tot stellt)
It's a world full of music for a lone bayou boy.
The song of the bayou fills the swamp and the air.
Full of sounds you can hear but don't see anywhere.
As you glide over roots where the cypress tree stand.
You'll feel all the myst'ry of a strange haunted land.
      Come along, come along,
      bring your sorrow and joy,
      along with the dreams,
      of a lone bayou boy.
Hear the old bullfrog sing in a deep mellow bass.
Hear a silver bell ring from a dark secret place.
Where the big old poor gator looks for something to chase.
It's a world full of music for a lone bayou boy.
In a world full of > (?) song (?) < for a lone bayou boy.

      @@t.e.r.sven2.0vs.daskaltest59 Great job.
I have one minor correction for the last verse:
Where the big old bull 'gator looks for something to chase
(A bull 'gator being a male alligator)
The last line - you are correct - is:
In a world full of song for a lone bayou boy
