I adore your NO NONSENSE review AND the fact you repeat the models! FINALLY someone who knows what consistency means
thank god for you!
I went with the 8k almost purely because of the form factor. My print area is quite limited so the smaller footprint was appealing to me. Both printers seem more than sufficient for the average user, which is nice.
great decision making and a fantastic printer!
I've been trying to decide for the last few weeks what printer to purchase, I've been looking at all the price points as well as the different sizes I was between the mars 3 pro and a saturn S for a bit until I looked into the Saturn 8k, for the difference in price it ticks all of my boxes. After seeing the difference in print quality side by side the 8K is all I really need for printing minis with the occasional bust.
Appreciate the effort that goes into making these videos it really helps to explain all the little differences that aren't apparent to someone who is not so well versed in the world of resin printing. Much thanks to you for taking the time out to educate and inform.
Thanks, I’m so happy this helped you.
You have gone through the same process as I have and landed on the same printer.
It is really helpful to see a comparison side by side. Tks from Brazil.
Glad you appreciate it, thanks
Thanks FauxHammer for this amazing review. Due to your expertise, I just bought a Saturn 8K with the Mercury X Wash and Cure Station. Saving 160 Euro, having a faster print speed and almost the same results in printed objects are good reasons for me to follow your suggestion. I already have a Mars 3 Pro and I am verry happy with this machine. Not even a single failed print so far. But the limited built size is sometimes a bigger drawback than I had expected. So thanks again for your your time and effort making this and your other videos! They were extremly helpfull. Greetings from Germany Marco
Super helpful - thanks for making these videos!
Glad you like them!
Here to make a choice between the 2. One of the relevant videos I have ever seen. Wird thing is youtube didn’t show this clip when I searched for it, but google did. Keep up the amazing work !
Thank you for the indepth comparison. I watched this video and your others about the individual printers a few times, and just pulled the trigger on a saturn 2. My mars2pro & OG saturn will be happy to have some company.
Thanks for helping me decide
Great, honest comparison sprinkled with intelligent humor. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I’ve been called many things in my life, but I take offence at being called intelligent 🤪
Great video, love the honesty and it's pushing me towards one of these, I have an M3 at the moment and really like the prints I'm getting but may upgrade in the summer....
Great to hear! Thanks so much
Well done this is exactly the information I was looking for, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the comparison i learn a lot
Thanks for the genuinely helpful and honest review. I’ve been waiting for this to help me decide which printer to upgrade to for my 3D printing business. I would like to see a video where you show some common print quality issues and how to resolve them. For example sometimes my prints have very fine parallel lines on straight objects and I’d love to know how to stop it happening. You just gained a new subscriber.
Thanks so much. Ok. Added to my list.
That issue specifically can happen dude to excess pressure from the removal from the build plate which can cause the plate or FEP to slightly shift.
Can be if the component is very large or not hollowed.
But there are a few other potential causes. If your lift height is too low, that can also cause if if a layer does not fully unstick from the fep
@@FauxHammer Thanks so much for the helpful info! I ordered an Elegoo Saturn 2 after watching this extremely informative video and it arrived today. I’ll keep an eye out to see if I get the same lines on the new machine. Keep putting up quality videos and I’ll keep watching and liking them!
Are those printed lines on straight lines printed at an angle (e.g. at 45° to the build plate)? If so, there's an answer to be to be had in trig
Well, I watched those other 2 videos before coming to watch this one too. 😂 praise be to the mighty algorithm 😊 I just like your no nonsense approach to reviews mate.
This is really helpful. The specifics of the cases where the two printers perform sightly differently is hugely useful
Thanks, I wanted to explain what these different specs actually mean in real life
Great video very well explained. I ordered the Saturn 2 yesterday (hopefully turning up endo of week) and I can't wait. Never tried 3D printing before but have done a tonne of research so hopefully my first ever print will work...fingers crossed!
Update - my first print failed miserable y and didn't stick to the build plate. After scratching up the plate a bit it now sticks but having a few failed prints here and there - al a learning curve I guess.
Are you using the settings I used in this vid? If they don’t work. Then the most likely issue is that your room temperature is too low.
Or your bed isn’t levelled correctly.
Or both
@@FauxHammer Thanks for the input - so after a bit of research I realised that the elegoo water washable resin I was using needs longer exposure time. According to Elegoo 3.5 seconds and not the pre set 2.5. but after running the same test plates you have I have dialled it down to 2.8 and have just got the best set of results so far so may just have cracked it!
@@frankjones9839 my favourite parts of this RUclips venture is seeing when people do what I do and finding success. Those moments of, yeah, you helped somebody!
Glad you found your groove in this
Thank you for this very interesting validation. Can't wait to see the validation!😃
I am using Mars 3Pro and just recently purchased an additional Saturn 8K.
I did not go with the Saturn 2 because I did not want the height of the Z axis. I just needed a larger build plate than the Mars 3Pro so I went with the Saturn 8K which is more compact than the Saturn 2.
Both the Mars 3Pro and Saturn 8K print well and I like them very much.😊
Glad it was helpful! hope it lived up to your expectation.
Both printers are incredibly good printers. and I'm glad you made the right choice for you.
@@FauxHammer
Yes, Saturn 2 or Saturn 8k, I was very curious about the difference in the LCD lights as you also mentioned in the video. I was using Mars 3Pro first, so is Saturn 2 newer and better than Saturn 8K same as Mars 3Pro's LCD light system? and I was really curious that.
But my #1 goal was the build plate size and the price was also more reasonable for the Saturn 8K. And your comment in your previous video like Saturn 8K is a hidden gem encouraged me.😁
As a result I made a great decision with Saturn 8K. It matches my purpose. And you also mentioned in this verification video that Saturn 8K's lights might be powerful....
I also feel that Saturn 8K has very powerful lights compared to Mars 3Pro. Therefore, the exposure time is completely different between Mars 3Pro and Saturn 8K for the same print. (This is based on my own test prints).
Your validation this time was also very good!
I love your videos because they are so easy to follow.
Thank you for all your wonderful videos.😃
P.S
Then Elegoo's customer service/technical support is very helpful and courteous and I am impressed.
I bought the Mars 3Pro and then another Elegoo printer because of my experience with the Mars 3Pro and my interactions with Elegoo.
Thanks for doing this reviews really helped me
Glad I could help
Thank you for this review. I found it very helpful.
You're welcome!
Great video buddy. Very helpful
another great video. i agree this is a mater of preference. for me the quality at eye level is so similar that i would be really happy with the 8k even though as you mentioned the "accuracy" of the 2 is demonstrably better.
Totally agree! Thanks for the kind comment
Thank you for this comparison.
It was really helpful and I think I'll save the extra money
Happy to have helped you
Great video! I'm now much more informed on which one to buy.
btw, the s in Fresnel is silent.
Thanks, yeah a couple of people have pointed this out, never knew this before
Excelent video Comparisson Thank you!!
One is glad to be of service
So far my Saturn 2 is doing great for me. Enjoying ease of use. First elegoo printer. And the carbon filter does actually work
Yeah I love the carbon filters you now get with these
I just ordered the Saturn 8K refurbished from elegoo for 220. i just need more space than my mars 3 is providing. thank you so much for your videos! I, indeed, was torn between the 8K and the saturn 2. this answered everything i wanted to know and then some
Nice review! Thx
I was going to go for the 8k until you mentioned that support for the 2 was going to be better due to increased user base. 100$ more for peace of mind that someone can help me with my issues is worth it.
Yeah, that’s important
Great review and comparison.
Glad you enjoyed it
I like ure honesty👌🏼
Nice video! For those curious, a fresnel works just like a normal lens in that it either focuses or collimates (makes parallel) light. The upside to a fresnel lens is that it is much thinner than a normal lens of the same focal length. The downside is some diffraction that doesn’t matter much in this case.
defraction?
@@FauxHammer basically a small part of the light is spread out rather than being made parallel. Due to the limitations of the fresnel pattern. This limits the imaging quality of fresnel lenses. But it doesn’t really matter here.
Super helpful, thanks! I watched this on the YT app on the TV, so very large screen, and I see _some_ difference in the two prints..... but I'll be damned if I can put my finger on what I'm noticing! Don't think I could really pick one as better than the other which is probably the key thing here.
great way to watch and good way to point out what you can't see, especially since I blew up the size of the model with a macro lens, then you blew it up more on a giant tv.
if you still can't see a difference, point made!
Been waiting for this one..
I hope you enjoy it, and find it valuable. Already had some great feedback from my patrons, Both Saturn 8k Ownesra and Saturn 2 Owners.
I love your honesty and approach. Also, hey algorithm, do the thing
I appreciate that!
@@FauxHammer also, for some reason your name glamdrings a bell...
@@Londubh you’re one of the few people to get it, most people guess it means fake Warhammer
Great info thanks
Happy to help
Thanks for the comparison
No worries, hope it helped
thank you for the video detailing the difference ... hopefully this is enough words to trigger the matrix like you need it
Glad it was helpful! really appreciate you feeding the algorithm
Fantastic video! It exactly answered the question I could not find the answer to. That is, what exactly is the difference between these two printers, especially since the more advanced Saturn 2 was released a bit before the less expensive Saturn! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! exactly why I wanted to make it!
Amazing video. Thank you. New subscriber here
Thanks so much
Also, I would like to see reviews of what painted models look like when printed on different printers.
A painter's reference answer to the printer's wolverine bust. I've searched all over for PAINTED model reviews so I can compare the output in regards to what I'll be doing with it. And so far you come the closest, but please do at least a segment like this when you review new printers. And please do a video reviewing painting a standard model a standard scheme for all your currently reviews printers. Please and thank you!
There’s a lot to put into that. I’m a pretty fast painter but I could start doing a quick zenithal shade on some models, would that help?
That would be immensely helpful!
Or even just a 1 coat base-coat with a contrast coat… that’s what really emphasises the layer lines
Super interesting video, I actually thought the Wolverine model on the 8K looked better, but preferred the mini on the Saturn 2.
Honestly, it’s likely more my photography showing the difference, at this scale it’s so hard to zoom equally on each model and slight movement affects focus
Thanks for that great video. Always balanced, always on point. What I would really really like to see that's rarely treated on many a channel is how you handle post treatment BEFORE painting 3D printed resin. How do you get rid of voxel lines after the fact ? Do you use a spray primer or an airbrush primer /filler ? Do you sand ? How do you glue big parts that have to be handled on the gaming table ? Is superglue enough for a tank sized print ? Would you use epoxy ? The People wanna know !!
Ok, will take me a bit, but yep. I’ll do it.
@@FauxHammer Yay , that's great news ! Take all the time you need, I know it'll be worth the wait. :)
I had just ordered the Saturn 2 cause I thought it was newer/better. Then I saw this video and ordered the 8k. Now I saw your other video about the uniformation and now I’m thinking about returning the 8k and getting that! Ahhhh maybe I’ll just get both 😅
both is good.
At some point just stop... because this will be outdated next
I'm so happy that I came across your channel I've been planning to buy my first 3D printer. The way you explain things is very helpful especially to a person like me who has zero knowledge about 3d printers. I'm torn between Elegoo Saturn 2 and Photon M3 premium. Because it's just in the same price range here in our country. Do you have a video comparison for these two? Thanks again 🙇🏽♀️
thanks, the video you want should be out later this week. having issues with the edit.
Excellent informative video.
(P.S. The "s" in "Fresnel" is silent. 😁)
Thanks, this is about the 80th comment advising that lol
@@FauxHammer I did search the comment section before I posted, but all the previous grammar Nazis must have been buried already. Sorry! And it really was an excellent video, btw. I like how you keep the discussion grounded in the context of actual use. 👍
A great, straight talking review.
thanks, that's my aim
I got the Saturn 2 and apart from the shit lid its by far the best printer I've used. Also I could see the difference between the 2 prints on my phone. Thanks for the effort
Whilst your language is colourful, I appreciate it's accuracy.
The Saturn 3 is going to be released soon, I wonder how that will stack up. Just about to jump into purchasing my first 3D printer and have decided on the Saturn 2 but will wait to see what impact the Saturn 3 has to the pricing vs. feature matrix. Cheers for your advice and thorough comparisons.
I expect my review will say it's a pointless enhancement, but well see
@@FauxHammer I just find it odd that the base price for the Saturn 3 ($450) is less than the Saturn 8K ($500) and Saturn 2 ($600) before their site save values.
@@ThatGuy53297 almost like the prices are made up based on marketing g rather than actual product value. At least, that’s how a pessimist may view it. Good job that’s not me…
@@FauxHammer Interesting point Faux, I suppose a company could factor in the size of the community around a version.
@7:00 I think left was what my eyes told me had better quality overall... but the problem mainly comes down to which areas I preferred. I always look at stitches and creases. Some like skin texture. Continuing video from here to find out now lol
Was the result as you expecged
Phew glad that wasn’t too painful as I just committed to the Saturn 8k 😅
you will not be able to tell the difference. the people screaming you can, you can, are being a little bit elitist. There is a difference there, but not in such a way that anyone should reasonably care.
And honestly depends on what your printing. For me, 80% of my sales is mini’s so the Saturn 8k is perfect for the price point
I got the cheaper one jajaja, for me really i need the build volume more than the definition, and at the price difference the extra z size didn't make enough to make me spend the extra $. I really like the message you give during the video, i do think there is a printer for everyone, it's a matter of knowing what you are looking for.
nice review.
Thank you
Great content
thanks so much!
I can't tell any difference in the models, they all look great. :)
Not sure if it's the lighting but the Wolverine on the right looks slightly sharper - mainly the chest area where you can see the fabric pattern
It’s slightly different focus. At this closeness I’m struggling to balance the shots equally
Have you got video's on the lift speed and retract speed and distance im looking to learn more on what these actually really do! I have been learning alot about the light off setting this week and that is very interesting to onow anything below 8 seconds is basically 0 it'll do nothing for cooling your screen down so things like this I'd like to see more of and maybe showoff some of your amazing looking models! That figure at the end the bull Indian thing was so cool! Whare is that from?
Bought the 8K and I am extremely happy. I am printing fine with basic setting but just bought 2kgs of resin (I am quite happy with price/value ratio of elegoos standart V2) so I want to calibrate it. Other than that- I love it. Great machine
I love seeing happy people
@@FauxHammer And I love seeing outstanding coverage on resin printing. Like for real dude, your videos helped me so much!
@@Vostoceq thanks so much
Thanks for a great comparison!
If you don't mind, could you tell us your measurement for each, in total height from the table surface required to lift the cover off?
I have a shelf above my print table that I'm trying to work with. 😉
Thanks, it’s a hard question to answer. If you are printing small things then nothing gets in the way of the lid as you lift it and angle it away from the printer. So I dunno, 20cm above the units height.
But if you have a large print you probably need the z-axis build height on top of the units height for full clearance of the plate
I'm surprized that you got anything to print at .03 layer height on the S2 with 8k resin (which is 1.5x the specs) I had to lower mine all the way down to .013 to print anything if the vat wasn't full. If it's full I can do .02 (the room also stays at around 22 C) my exposure time is 3.6 all the other settings we use are identical, maybe it is humidity as I'm not sure how much my room has.
Wow that’s super high exposure times. This does take longer to expose than other resins because it has more of the flexible stuff in it (dunno how resin is made, but the more bendy stuff takes longer) but 3.6 at .02 sounds insane!
I was gonna say it’s probably lift and and speeds but you said you matched mine
I dunno how much humidity affects prints, I don’t know what my room is either. Typical Uk humidity I guess.
I wonder if there’s something up with the screen or the light array?
I swear to god its actually what i was looking for.
I hope it met your expectations.
@@FauxHammer Yes and it's even better than I expected, but now my conundrum is "are 40 mm worth 100 $?" :P
Amaising review!
I can see the difference on the bust but not on the mini, and that difference is not worth the money Imo
happy to help, you gotta do you.
To me all the models look awesome. I really don't see anything to differ them.
I can't wait for a elegoo with DLP.
Have you seen that one is coming soon? ruclips.net/video/olcjDSW-yGg/видео.html
For the algorithm!!
I would love a 3D printer...I can't think of what I would make with it. I've tried thinking of a reason for the last year.
Anything....
Which printer would you choose? Phrozen Mighty 8K or Saturn 2 8K?
Mighty has a better user experience, my video is coming out soon. Prints are directly comparable in terms of quality.
Awesome video, thanks! I am exactly in that decision right now.
One question though, does the tank of the saturn 2 fit on the saturn 8k ? The saturn2 tank has a nice resin pouring nozzle
Nope they are different sizes. Though in practise, neither are better. Resin still runs down the edge and underneath. There was only 1 Preminger I’ve ever seen which had a better method of pouring by having the spout sit well proud of the bat edge, can’t remember which one it was though, it was an Anycubic Something
@@FauxHammer OK thanks for that honest answer 👍
@@Gendokun11 always here to be honest with you all.
Very helpful review, but sorry if I missed it, which printed faster and more reliably overall? The price difference is now pretty nominal and speed/reliability are more of a concern (at least for me). Cheers.
8k is faster, Saturn 2 is sharper. Both seem just as reliable as eachother
Cheers@@FauxHammer, I almost picked up an 8K yesterday but then found your video on the 8KS... So one of those is now on order. Really enjoying you content dude, keep up the great work. (see you Expo?)

Oi Makin a post just to feed the system. Also nice work. Appreciate the vid
Cheers l, thanks a tin
Im curious, is it worth buying Returned 3d printers? I saw that elegoo sells them for something like 50% off, on their brand new saturns to boot. But not sure if its worth it if it breaks in 6 months, especially the lcd screen (which are one of the biggest maintenance costs of resin printers)
You need to make that call for yourself, it’s gambling really, if they are refurbished they could be anywhere from amazing to a lemon.
I wouldn’t take the gamble but you could easily end up being the person who saved 50% on an all but brand new printer
I just picked up a Saturn 8K coming from the Mars 3 Pro and using the same resin Onepeng grey (nice and cheap on Amazon) and I had to add .8 seconds to my exposure times compared to the Mars 3 pro. Is this the difference in light sources, machine size or a combination of the two? I really liked the mars 3 pro and love the build size of the Saturn but I may just switch to a newer model if its only the light source. Appreciate your hard work and I enjoy the videos!
It is probably the light source, but in my case I found the Saturn 8k faster than the 3
I just got myself a Saturn 8K after Adepticon and the mercury x bundle because of you!
Also: I couldn't see any difference.
One is glad to be of service. But don;t tell @Artis Opus, I was meant to be selling brushes not printers. shhhhhh.

13:20 teeth are cleaner and eyes are smoother. So the '2 does 'smooth' better while grainy details are about the same.
The leather on the left also seems actual smooth while the right has sharper lines it seems... though overall i say thats nitpicking on the highest level.
The printers are currently 90€ apart in Europe and only the Saturn S seems significantly cheaper (with 200€ to the '2)
I honestly can't tell the difference with both Wolverines. Guess that settles which one I am getting then.
Thank, I can’t tell either and I have the physical models. I kept getting confused when filming so I wrote on the bottom which was which
I was wondering if the Saturn 8K also has the messy dripping Problem of the Saturn 2 after prints are finished?
Yep, I show this in my Saturn 8k video
The noise rant got a subscribe from me.
Hahaha, thanks
A full setup video would be mint I swear no one is talking about this printer
Grazie
I'd love to see some reviews of AoS and 40K compatible miniature lines. As great as the printer reviews are, I'd also like to see the differences between printers, such as these two, when looking at the final products; painted miniatures. Or even just primered miniatures compared between various printers, 8K versus DLP and the like.
Thanks, I did start by comparing minis to Warhammer, but it only served to talk people away from GW and that is not the intent, I love GW. The models I share now I want to showcase them as they are and build their support in their own right. The longer people compare to gw so directly, the longer I feel the 3D printer industry will be looked at as a GW rip off when it’s its own thing. So it’s personally something I want to get away from.
But, I do have more comparison videos coming and will compare miniatures
to me the right one looks like a better detailed print, looks sharper
Good Video!
But why didnt you remove the mini Supports or polish your figurines up for the Final Shoot?

Just started watching your videos looking for my 1st printer. Unrelated to anything but before I saw you in the video I swear this was being done by samwell tarly from GoT
and once you saw me, you were certain I was him...
8k looks like a mashup of parts from their other machines maybe they were cleaning up the warehouse. Only downside could be lack of support because the 8k isn't the flagship
Lol, I’m not quite sure that’s how printers are designed. But yeah I think the fewer users is the biggest different especially for those new to printing
Hmmm, great video thanks, still can't make my mind up.........What about other makes? Are Anycubic better or worse??? What about Creality, I have 2 great Creality FDM printers is the Halot any good??? I do seem to be drawn to Elgoo though.
I have videos fii oh r most of the modern printers out there including ones you mentioned. Please keep watching
i went ahead and tried to use the same parameter settings as the one you showed in the video for my Elegoo Saturn 2 and for some reason the duration of the print is almost doubled from the default setting. Why is that?
❤
The 8K is currently on sale for $299. The photon x 6KS is on sale for 280. Of those two. Which do you recommend. I really hope someone is still watching this after all this time.
8k out if those. Bigger screen area
I think there might be a firmware upgrade that will take advantage of the saturn 2's lens system and kill that fan
Don't want to be annoying, but some and yourself may not see the other video suggestion about the USB issue.
Maybe buy a USB extension cable and to tuck it closer to the machine find a 90° one then run it under the machine to the front.
i can see the diffrence bit its only on small bits and super up close like texture on the nose of wolverine or the sisters ear.
that's probably more my photography than the model.
Well dang, I thought the 8k figured looked better in a side by side 😳
it's probably my photography, zooming in this close and getting each image accurate is very difficult. and that is on a macro lens blown up large..... your eyes can't perceive what you can see in these pics when you look at a model
How strong are prints? Can i make something that can also survive outside?
What do you want to make?
What was the model at 3:42 with the big billowing dress ?
m5s, saturn 3, or any of the cheaper 300$ on sale currently ~ m3, saturn 2 8k, mini 8ks , is there any need to go for a 400/500$ model ? now in this time, im gonna make 20cm plus items, figures / busts. im gonna paint them also, with air paint. will i have a better experience with a frozen as a beginner? or the m5 autoleveling?
without being anexpert , my thought s are just get the saturn 2k.
Awesome video,broth
I appreciate it
Why does one wolvie have a small hole on the top of his head? it happens on my prints some times but i can't figure it why.
I believe It’s the 1 air bubble that always seems to gets trapped under the build plate. I printed out a plate of 500 space marine sized heads recently, and they pretty much all have it
Are Saturn 8k suitable for making jewelery?
Apart from y axy, do they have the same print size?
