Wait, what?! Does an expert like you still go with crazy bottom layer times like 27-35secs or was it just a default setting? If I have one pet peeve when it comes to resin printing it's people using way longer exposure times than they need. I speculate you fry your screen faster this way, too. Not because the extra mins are anything in the greater scheme of a multiple hour print but because you may be putting a whole lot more heat into the screen. I have yet to have a "bed adhesion" failure on my old, trusty Anycubic 4K Mono and my bottom expos are ~x5 the regular exposure time. Meaning I am often at just 10-12 secs and only four layers. And nope, I didn't come up with this, smarter people did, but it simply works. Besides that, great review. I am hoping the tilting mech can also help resins with heavy die or ceramic particles, etc in them to not settle out so fast. On long prints, this is sometimes an issue. So, maybe the swirling will keep the particles suspended better but at least the faster print time will help.
@@Topless_Stang it's not the best choice IMO, I use them for Lighting effects on videos amzn.to/3UsPXF7 Just get an LED light with a power witch to turn it off. that;s what i used now, but instead of a power switch, I just plug it into the printers USB port that I don't use....
Great video as always! The Saturn 4 and 4K Ultra are already integrated into Lychee. We're working on integrating WiFi and camera features to make them available as soon as possible 😊
Hi @Lychee3d maybe you have plans to develop "wifi"/"remote" printing option which supports Saturn 4 Ultra? It is soooooo painful to use ChituBox for that....
One next interaction. 1) Handle 2) Easy removal of lid without unscrewing anything, just pressing to release 3) Front removal without screws 4) any leak protection inside to catch leaking resin thru the gap. 4) Easy replacement for films by just replacing plastic module so it can take few seconds 5) bigger screen with adjustable position
Ordered my sat4 ultra day one. As a generation 1 Saturn owner, I’m sure I’ll be impressed by this one and relieved your review was mostly positive😅! Thanks and looking forward for more to come!
Saturn v1.0 owner here! 4 Ultra ordered July 4, out for delivery July 26 (in US). Can’t wait to see the improvements in person. v1 has been good to me, like my WhamBam plate… tempted for this despite Elegoo comments.
@@patrickhentschke6542 I was being sarcastic. It would be a rerelease of the whole system but with those added features. Like the Saturn 4 Ultra has the tilt but the Saturn 4 do not have the vat tilt. If you follow the releases of 3D printing machines you might get my sarcastic joke.
It's awesome that the Calibration mode allows you to specifically set the time, rather than them deciding what the steps will be for you. That allows you a Binary (Quintinary, actually) Search for dialing in a new resin. For example, if consensus is that the optimum print time is somewhere between 3.7 and 4.1, you can do as follows: Print 1: 3.5, 3.75, 4.0, 4.25 --Two Best: 3.75 & 4.0 Print 2: 3.8, 3.85, 3.9, 3.95 --Two best: 3.95, 4.0 Print 3: 3.96, 3.97, 3.98, 3.99 --Two best: 3.96, 3.97 Print 4: 3.962, 3.964, 3.966, 3.968 --Two best: ???? With _one_ more print, splitting the difference between the two best from print 4, and you've dialed in the perfect print time for that resin to the maximum precision in Chitubox. Plus, if one of the earlier prints was "perfect" from your perspective, then you're done. Add in some sort of resin temperature control, and you should have effectively perfect prints every time with only _four_ test prints total.
@@Londubh I imagine so. Classic corporate move. Like pay to use model for a lot of cars these days - you bought the hardware but have to pay subscription to use it.
Thank you for your detailed review. Your videos have helped inform my decision making with 3D printing more than anyone's and I've went ahead and pre-ordered my Saturn 4 Ultra.
Wow, Ross, this is the most complete review about the Saturn 4 Ultra. I loved watching it. Congrats man! AND you opened it!!!! I almost did it, but I was already so late to finish the video. I am glad you took even more time and actually opened it. I am also happy you talked about the grip when holding the Build Plate - I sent a message about it to Elegoo. Let’s see if they’ll have time to do something about it… otherwise, I will create yet another MOD for the printer. Oh, I didn’t test, but maybe it is possible to manually adjust the actual pressure of each corner, tightening the springy screws.
Thanks so much brother, I watched your video earlier today, I think I put a comment. Really nice review end nice handle. Did you by chance release those STL files for others to use. That would be awesome. But thanks for another great video from you too. This one is impressing so many people and it deserves its praise no end
As much as it would be nice for them to have had a knurled Surface to hold the build plate surely just get some grip tape for a skateboard or some sticky back 120 grit paper and put that on?
can you test how saturn 4 ultra would print a flexible resin? those resins require higher lift distances while printing so I'm really curious how, if at all, they would print with this tilting mechanism 🤔
Same mate, but my second printer. I've got a mars 3 and love it but I want to print larger projects and the larger build plate has been something I've been looking at for a while. Nearly bought a Saturn 3 last launch but was poor at the time 😂
I was about to preorder this printer based on your review I watched a few days ago. Then I remembered affiliate links and how you deserved my click due to the sheer level of quality and effort contained in this video. So just like pikachu, I chose you and ordered it via your link. Also I need you to outlive me so that I never have to be without your videos. K thanks!
@@FauxHammer Seconded. I have just decided to get into Resin printing. And luckily found your channel and will be making my decision based on your reviews and will make sure to use your affiliate links.
I like that you are honest here, this is the best saturn 4 review in the internet (until your next review). Enough nice word, some points I am interested, if there will be a more in depth video. 1. Does the tilt mechanism make a huge difference, a super thin supports possible. 2. Can you talk more about the "auto level", can I ajust the screws or change the higt of the plattform? 3. Do you think, than its possible to use a flexplate (I know, you dont like them, you cann and will probably skip this question) Thank you
what i would rather have is a model without the camera at all, I'm a hobbyist printer i don't need time lapses and i don't want to pay the cost of a feature i wont use in the final price tag , it should be a detachable extra like the filters.
I appreciate having the heater and carbon filter as an optional extra, as I print in enclosures with heaters and extraction external to the printer, and i can't be the only one!. I think it makes sense to add those items if you need them as people like me would be put off paying a higher price for these features.
Same. Personally, the carbon filter does absolutely nothing for me. I have an extraction fan hooked up to the back too which on paper should be more than enough but I think the machine (Saturn 2 in this case) just isn't airtight as I need to it be. Without a respirator I can always smell it if I'm in the same room and if I'm there for even 5-10 minutes my throat gets scratchy in a way I've never experienced. Similar story for the heater. Heating the vat instead of the air made more sense to me so I was always going to go DIY.
Agreed. I don't need a heater at all. So I'd prefer to not pay for something I don't need. I wish they'd to that with all the extras that not everyone wants, and just keep the price low as it can be... like the AI camera, I don't care about that at all.
Just pulled the trigger on this one to replace my anycubic mono 5k, plagued with problems ever since I had it. I also replaced my super inconsistent ender 3 v2 with a bambu laps a1. I had trawl through your videos so I could use your affiliate links! Thanks for the reviews and thanks for telling us off for think about all those big k numbers 😂
Thanks for the great reviews and comparison videos Ross, I purchased one of these and a mars 5 ultra recently with your links. The speed is fantastic and the quality of life improvements are great coming from a Saturn 2. Appreciate all your hard work for the 3D printing community!
Please start comparing printers to the GK Two and similar. I know they compete in difference price brackets but in this case the speed could be a real deciding factor between the two. How does the print speed of the GK Two compare to this printer?
Sadly I'm not in a position to get a new printer right now, but your review and Kirioth's have helped me decide it will definitely be a Saturn 4 Ultra when I do.
As I am just getting into the resin printer side of the 3D printing hobby I was just about to get the GKtwo over the Saturn 3 Ultra, however, this new model with its seeming ease of entry use makes me feel like I should go with the Saturn 4 Ultra. I wish it had that heater built in, but with the cost savings being close to 50% I can use the other monies to get a wash and cure station at the same time instead of DIYing those solutions. Thanks for the review, by the way, your lid open dimensions were exactly what I was hoping to hear as the machine will be going into a closed structure with outdoor venting. Cheers!
cool and interesting review! I liked how indepth and technical it was, but i would suggest to cut down on the stock reaction clips. They are too long and don't add anything but interrupt the flow of your visual narration, maybe add them in an overlay over actual footage if you must.
Literally just got done purchasing this and the bundle of assessories. I'm a Zbrush artist so looking forward to bringing my sculpts to physical form for my art office!
Seems like the only aspect of this thing that I'm not thrilled about is the gap above the build plate that makes it harder to scrape resin off. Otherwise, that looks fantastic!
Kudos to Elegoo for some very big innovations with the Saturn 4. I was very close to picking this up, but the lack of a vat heater makes it a pass for me. Specifically, the design of this tank will make it very hard to get a vat-band around (off the shelf fermentation bands will not fit). I print in a garage that gets down to 10C and a chamber heater cannot warm the system up fast/efficiently enough to be practical for me.
thanks Ross I'm just starting with 3d printing the ultra 4 will be my first printer. I checked a lot of videos but yours are great and easy to understand. greetings Pieter
so cool to see newcomers! i'm sure you'll like it, just be patient and please pay attention to security warnings. Resin is a danger for health, so please use gloves, mask, and use it in a non-living room
I have very probably seen a big problem. At 19:12 you can see how the spring at the front right relaxes when the tank is lowered and is compressed again when the tank is raised. So the LCD is pressing on the model.
That plate gap is a deal breaker for me as a print shop owner. Trying to make sure I don’t drip resin from a dozen printers with a silly gap like that is just a no-go for me.
Thank you for the excellent video. RUclips was made for this. Elegoo makes good printers at a good price but they do a lousy job educating their customers about product features and differences between products. They're definitely relying on someone making a great video like this so I'll use your link. I'm upgrading to the Saturn 4 Ultra on Black Friday. I'll get the Elegoo chamber heater and make a heated box for the resin bottles.
Hey FauxHammer, been loving your videos since getting my printer. Question, why do you always pour the resin over the print bed? Is it a "looks good on video" thing or does it actually have some benefit?
I been thinking about getting this printer BUT what worries me is the bearing or the aluminum going south...So I think I will go with the Saturn 3 Ultra
It doesn't make sense that the auto leveling is just springs on the platform. Springs alone wouldn't level the platform against the screen since they would only be parallel in the moment the platform is pressed against it and as soon as the platform raises it would go back to whatever position it had previously. During the printing process the platform/part and the bottom of the vat are not touching, they are separated by whatever is your layer height. The just springs statement doesn't make sense mechanically
It looks like there's some spring loaded ones (the ones that you can see the head of the screw moving when he squeezes the assembly), and others that have a black cover, I wonder if the ones that have the black cover have some sort of locking mechanism so that the ones with springs push it into the screen and then the ones with the black cover lock it into position.
Been waiting for this video! Thank you for going into such great detail on all of the features. I am super excited for this machine. I think it’s a perfect option for a mid range printer for people jumping into the hobby, it has so many quality features for its price! Great video as always Ross! Love seeing the comments on Uncle Jessy’s video about him saying “Fox” Hammer 😂 Made my morning
Ah, right, there was a question. I definitely take AI over timelapse. TImelapse is cool to do twice. AI helps forever, even if only sometimes. But also on the lack of light source in printer: I assume there is too much variation with - singular point light source giving to dark shadows - having light next to camera would mean almost no shadows visible and that means less variation to work with - multiple LEDs would cause crazy shadows like on Elegoo's FMD printers. - the closer the light source the more crooked the image I haven't tested it since I don't have the 4 Ultra yet, but I bet You can just put the light source a meter or two from the printer and it will be fine.
Can confirm the AI camera with room light on will detect shifting print objects if the plate is not crowded. Had a tall print peeling off and it caught it with 30% still attached the build plate.
Great review Ross for the money and the features you mentioned this sure is worth having a second look. Curious to see if those mini heaters are efficient or worthless and it would of been nice if the lift up cover would of had the hinges in a more functioning position as to allow the cover to be raised up and not pass beyond the back of the printer especially for those with limited space. I don't know if someone has shown the true leveling of the bed to the vat but that would be interesting to see also. I will be on the look out for your next review on this printer, thanks for your work and time.
Yeah this flip lid looks like a massive downgrade from the old lift off lid. I can easily put a lift off lid on the floor, but I can't add an extra 25cm to the depth of my work surface and print tent. I suspect I will just undo the hinge and turn it into a lift off lid :)
@@alwayswatching6318 Lol that is a great idea since I am limited in space and funds. There's a RUclipsR that has his setup in a closet and he designed some kind of hook to hang his cover on the inside of the closet door btw his printer is not this model but a little bit of brain juice and anything is possible. XD
Getting this for my birthday present to myself in August. When I started printing a couple of years ago your videos helped me come to a decision on which machine to go. If the link still works in August, ill be using it!
Tilt releases seems to me not only good for speed, but also for suction cups.. better releasing, and more stability on the axis when a print is a geometrical directly on the build plate kind of prints..
The tilting mechanism was invented by Prusa Research for their SL1 printer years ago. Would be great if Prusa got the recognition it deserves for such innovations.
I appreciate the correction. However, while Elegoo made it affordable, Prusa’s open source mentality did most of the work for them. Prusa are now having to exit the resin printer consumer market due to not wanting to compromise on their open source stance and due to being priced out of the market by the Chinese competitors. I hope that Elegoo and Anycubic can keep innovating even as the reprap community slowly diminishes.
@I completely appreciate Prusa as I hope I’ve shown in my latest video. But you know Prusa acquired the company that designed that series of resin printers right?
@ I do, yeah. Though it’s not clear how much of the SL1 was developed after that shift. I’d imagine quite a bit due to the gap between the purchase of the company and the SL1 release. I was mainly just airing out my grievances because I’m sad to see so many people accepting the move to proprietary technology by companies like Bambu Lab, etc. They took what Prusa made and used Prusa’s slowness at a critical time to steal a lot of the growing FDM market. It’s problematic to see the industry moving away from open source, as a few years ago such consumer-oriented stances drove a lot of purchase decisions in the growing market. I’m now getting worried about people simply not caring and that leading to the market's inevitable stagnation and price hikes. Your video was really good and this move by Elegoo has actually made it possible for me to get this technology. I’ve been waiting for an SL2 to release but since Prusa is now moving to the pro market, I’m sadly going to have to let go of my own principles and buy the Saturn 4 Ultra. Still deliberating whether to get this or wait until a Saturn 5 Ultra but nevertheless, the low prices + good quality can no longer be ignored.
Is the heater thing really that big of an issue? I mean... I live in the Midwest US and my old pre-order saturn seems to do just fine as long as I stay above 40*f, which is pretty cold. I mean, you want it above freezing for sure, but once it gets going the reaction is exothermic and it keeps itself warm.
Ross, this really is the best Saturn 4 Ultra review I have seen. I am a bit skeptical about the lack of speed options in the slicer and just Slow/Fast in the printer. I agree that the tilt helps so much with peel forces. This is great for beginners. But more advanced users should be able to experiment with even faster options. Hopefully, an option can be made as firmware update. I was also surprised you didn't mention that a handle would be helpful. I saw you lift the lid with your pinky which is great. And then I thought that I would have a whole bunch of fingerprints all over the front.
I honestly don;t see the lack of a handle as an issue. it;s why i included that part, if you listen to the audio at that bit you can tell i added in the audio afterwards
So while i am glad they added a tilting mechanism it is hardly a new mechanism for this generation and more new to this size at this price. The Prusa SL1S Speed had this feature. It was also $2000 for a small format printer so there is that. A lot of your criticisms are valid. But I really don't want heated vats by default. Not everyone needs them not everyone wants them. Not to mention chamber temperature also affects the print. The Elegoo heater looks promising since it addresses the biggest problem with chamber heaters. But blowing air up rather than toward the build plate a lot of the problems with blowing resin should be mitigated.
i like the silicone dog mats, im in the market for a new printer since i sold up everything a couple years ago. I used to use food trays as they are solid and were fairly easy to clean. how do you find the silicone mats when moving parts around and such?
I love your videos, and i am going to start my own 3d printing journey, so i have 1 question. If money was not a problem, would you choose Uniformation gktwo, or Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra??
Depends. Am I printing in my garage? If so, GKTWO. Am I printing in a print farm? Also possibly GKTwo, because of the easily replaceable screen. Am I printing in a room with constant heating? Saturn 4 Ultra I also need to consider the lifespan of the gk2 nowadays
@@FauxHammer What do you mean by the lifespan.? I am going to print in my insulated garage, and to be total honest, I have already ordered the GKtwo. I was just trying to find out if i should cancel my order, and go for the Saturn 4 ultra. 😅 I fear buyers remorse.
Got the second Ultra 4 in and this one does not power up at all. Unfortunately, that is 2 for 2 having issues. First one had a screw in the vat plate that did not have any threads on it. As my first resin printer I did not know that was wrong (Hindsight I should have) and that led to a hole in the film>resin all over the screen>Screen going bad. They sent a new vat but the damage was done. I got about 300 minis from the first one that I really liked. I could have continued by only populating the left side of the build plate but wanted to put in a new screen. Second one is just complete disappointment. I have contacted support, and they asked me to troubleshoot the power brick and to remove the rear plate and check the connecters. No issues found. I have ordered a third machine in the meantime. Awaiting a reply from support and will let you know...
I actually think the seperate heater ain't a terrible idea now I think about it - I absolutely need one as I plan on printing in my shed, but while the other affordable one from AnyCubic has a heater built in it looks a bit of a pig to clean and if it fails I end up buying a new vat. So since it's £400 for the printer and the official heater it's not so bad I reckon. Plus I can use a different heater if I want to and if it breaks I can easily replace just that one bit. The downside is I suspect heating the resin and not the whole enclosure is a lot more efficient, but it seems a decent trade off for the tilting vat, which sounds like a game changer.
Great video, Ross, as always. You do make the best 3D printer reviews on RUclips. Can't wait for the Sonic Mighty Revo as a comparison now, though I doubt it can compete!
thanks so much mate, I put my all into this one as it is an important one. Mighty Revo should be about a week. Review is written just need to record tomorrow then edit
@Fauxhammer I purchased my Saturn 4 ultra and received it about a week ago. It has issues and does not function correctly. Myself and other users are reporting issues with the “self leveling” and tilting vat. One corner is not adhering to the bed causing everything to fail in that one corner. Support is making me go through all of the unrelated items first. Multiple users are reporting this. A heads up if you can get an update or info from elegoo.
I'd echo this - There's a growing number of users with this issue - The build plate "auto level" does not fully level the plate for the first few layers and it's not covering the entire plate. I can slide a piece of paper underneath the back of the build plate when it's doing the auto levelling and also when the print starts if I run it without the vat in!
I need to have a look at this in more detail. I have heard other comments like this. Which is shit because I had no issue but if there’s a massive inherent problem I’ll cover it and warn people
@@FauxHammer I've been in touch with Elegoo support and they've sent a gcode file over that looks to have at least partly resolved the issue. My guess is that it's lowered the 0 height for the levelling process. They're also sending me a new build plate in case that's causing the problem. Running a test print that uses a larger chunk of the plate so will see what happens
If you have a build plate that was poorly assembled, a channel called Geek Detour took apart his plate on a Mars 5 Ultra and shows how to manually level the plate. From the tear down, I can easily see how the tensioning could be off from the factory. Fixing it seems very simple though (simply changing the preload on the springs).
Hey Ross, kinda off topic, but I wiil say it again, I tried your resin and it's superb! Much much better compared to anycubic WW+, I just hope that it doesn't crack as people say waterwashable resins do, even tho I'm printing models that I prime and paint with lacquers...
Fantastic review Ross! I’ve just purchased the M5S Pro and haven’t even used it yet. But this video has given me serious FOMO. Is it worth selling the M5S Pro and buy the Saturn 4 Ultra? Only reason I bought the M5S Pro was the heater!
the s3u had a glass screen protector, if you try and scratch the corner of the screen with a craft knife or something and it doesn't scratch then it's glass so it must be a screen protector, if it scratches then it could be a plastic protector but more likely just no protector. Also, an overlooked feature of the tilting vat is that it will keep the resin mixed much more which is great for long prints (well it would be if the vat was big enough to fit more resin, m3 premium vat is a godsend) or resins that seperate a lot.
To me, the biggest downside compared to the gktwo is not the heater. Without having much experience I think preheating the resin is enough as the curing is exothermal, so it will probably stay warm during printing without heating. Even more so when printing faster. The huge downside to me is the platform. Uniformation found a way to minimize cleaning a lot. Elegoo found a way to double the cleaning effort.
A lot of companies are relying on exothermic reaction to maintain temperature. But I’m not convinced. I need the winter back in order to test it. At the very least this is not a controlled manner of heating And yeah, the cleaning is a pain
I second that. I value easier clean up / post processing. I don't understand how your supposed to clean this thing, especially if the upper part of the vat isn't supposed to get wet.
I'm binge watching your, and few other creators, videos to figure out which printer I should buy. For upgrading 1:64 and 1:43 model cars. So I will print only small elements, but tricky ones like wheels with all fine details. And then is resin types question because it would be great if it could work with rubber or clear acrylic type resins. Could you advise me where I should look and what printers are with consideration? And thank you for great job you're doing. You saved me already from making mistake. YT is full of videos which are misleading and your channel is so helpful with explanations and knowledge.
Right now I have Mars3 Pro which is printing fine. But I have huge urge to upgrade it to Saturn 4 Ultra but still in back of my head is that that in 1year we will get even better printer so Im not sure If I should wait or give it a try. Nice video as always!
Cool, I don't care about heated vats because I keep my resin printers in a modified commercial bench fridge which is both heated and vents outside. I'm getting this printer.
What do you think about cleaning the top of the buildplate? Seems like extra work. Uncle Jesse also mentioned that you can submerge the whole buildplate cuz the upper part is hollow.
Could not buy another resin printer after the Prusa Sl1, and then updated to SL1S...why? The only printer with a tilting bed. Well, now purchased this printer and awaiting delivery.
Hey, I preordered the Saturn 4 Ultra and I have to say it’s a very nice looking machine…I’m relatively new to resin printing even though I’m not playing by the rules…LOL I have an Anycubic Photon D2, and now the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra…I quickly fell in love with resin printing with my D2, so I quickly decided on a bigger build plate and even though I wanted the Jupiter which is no longer available I settled for a midsize build plate instead. I set up the printer once it got here and hit print on the first model I sliced, and did get a resin stain on the build plate. I do not understand all the resin settings yet so I just went with factory settings and nothing. What can I be doing wrong?
Good to know that there is not an app for the remote camera monitoring, and I agree that that would have made it easier, since for me remote monitoring would involve me not being at the house while it prints.
The Saturn 4 Ultra looks awesome indeed! I can right now get the Saturn 3 for about ~65% of what the Saturn 4 Ultra would cost and I do be having a hard time figuring out if the better print time + WiFi is worth the extra or not
@@FauxHammer Fair^^ My planned budget was around what the Saturn 3 would cost and with a nice deal I was very much considering it but now the 4 Ultra came into equation and it do be a very nice machine. It wouldn't change print quality much, but print speed and QoL. The 3 Ultra I don't think makes sense in my case anyways cause at that point would rather pay that little bit extra and pre-order the new one. Eitherway, thank you for answering, that was very nice :D Whatever I do end up going for, imma try use one of your affiliate links at least^^ EDIT: a benefit of getting the sat 3 would be that I could spent the extra cash to get a wash & cure since I was not using one before and the post processing.. has been getting annoying
I had a Formlabs Form 1+. It was similar in that it utilized a tilt feature on the resin tray to “peel” the print from the bedplate. Over time, I noticed the constant peel to one side would throw off the bedplate leveling. In addition, sometimes, the tilt wasn’t “deep” enough to execute the peel. Meaning, the bedplate would twist and deflect over the entire resin tray tilt cycle. It would never actually peel and release. This would always result in failed prints. Do you anticipate these issues with the Saturn 4 Ultra? Sincerely, Orcrist, The Goblin Cleaver
Really want to pull the trigger and have this be my first resin printer. But if the Saturn 4 can deliver same quality prints at 150.00 less then why not. I have my p1s for most of the prints I just want a resin printer for painting models, once in a while
Ross, I did it. I pre Ordered the Saturn Ultra 4 with your link but now I need some advice. What do I do with my old Anycubic Mono X with a burnt out screen lol. It’s not worth the cost to replace the screen in my opinion and I don’t want to a ship it anywhere due to cost. Thrift shop I guess? Or maybe recycle the UV light for a new post process curing box? What would you do?
Great review! :) I pre-ordered an S4U recently so it's nice to see a positive look at it. I see Anycubic have just announced the Mono 7 with a heated vat, a resin pump, a 14k screen (for whatever that's worth) and they've increased the Z height so the build volume is on a par or maybe slightly better than this. Of course they don't have the tilting vat and in the UK it'll be significantly more expensive than the S4U.
Hi Ross, thanks for the video, I was now curious to see how it handles light support, or even very light supports, with this innovative way making the levels. And another thing I'm curious about is if the temperature affects it less then the normal way of printing, of course the best is to have the right temperature, but would be nice to see if this printer is less affected then the others due to this new mechanics.
Great review, thank you! So...between the GKTwo and the Saturn 4 ultra...all other things being equal and cost not being a factor, which would you choose? Also, for some unclear reason, I tend to get consistent suction/peel force related failures, despite my long bottom layer exposure times and releveling. So the peel away tech of this new printer has massive appeal. Any hopes of seeing this tech surface on the next Uniformation printer? Or not needful because of other factors inherent in the GKTwo?
Great review, enjoyed it a lot. With regard to the AI camera lighting issue. I don't really see it as a cheeky on the part of elegoo because you can just light the shot from outside the case, (which they may have done for their shot on their website) with the added advantage of knowing it is going to have any stray 405nm light filtered out.
There's no reason that the multiple exposure test function can't be added to all their machines via firmware update. You'd think they'd want to do anything to speed up the path to first successful print to prevent returns.
Have a Mars 2, that I didn't use for some time now. But getting back to 3d printing right now and preordered the Saturn 4 ultra. I guess I can expect a plus in quality compared to the mars 2 here?
Awesome video! I'm a begginer and the saturn 4 ultra will be my first printer... any tips of wash and cure (2 in 1 would be great) machines to match the saturn 4 ultra?!
This is really cool. I like the speed and the detail of it. I don't really like the potential for disaster from the unprotected screen. I've lost screens before due to resin leaking under the tape seal and I don't relish having to replace a screen in something with a tilt mechanism. That said, if they do the same with a Mars ultra later this year, I'll probably be on board.
Hopefully not a stupid question but does the tilt function allow for the flat surfaces of a print to be set at less of an angle to the build plate or even set on it?
As a fdm user for the past 6 years, finally biting the bullet and going resin. However, with upcoming deals coming up, is it worth sticking with a Mars 4 Max or earlier generations to save some money on this new model?
There is a screen protector- I just dropped my build plate into the vat, corner first and shattered the screen protector- removed the screen protector and the lcd is perfect- I’ll have new screen protectors Tomorrow - thank goodness I didn’t ruin my new printer!!!

So this one of GKTwo?
Affiliate link doesn't work for me 😢, clicked others and are fine 😞
Where did you get that light from?? Wanting to add one to mine and that looks like a decent setup, although I'd rather it was a smart light.
@@Topless_Stang it's not the best choice IMO, I use them for Lighting effects on videos amzn.to/3UsPXF7
Just get an LED light with a power witch to turn it off.
that;s what i used now, but instead of a power switch, I just plug it into the printers USB port that I don't use....
Great video as always! The Saturn 4 and 4K Ultra are already integrated into Lychee. We're working on integrating WiFi and camera features to make them available as soon as possible 😊
Thanks guys!!! Oooh that’s exciting, I hope to see your integration method as the current method in this slicer feels a bit Janky
As a lychee subscriber and potential purchaser I approve of this comment ❤
Saturn 4 Ultra Pro will add a heater or a carbon filter, but will not be released for another 6 months when everyone already bought this one.
Just buy the accessory heater?
How do you connect the accessory heater? There is no usb inside the printer and as far as I know there is no hole you can get a cable through.
@@patrickhentschke6542there's a 30mm fan hole on the back you could use?
@@patrickhentschke6542
Идиот, что тебе мешает просверлить отверстие в крыш?
@@patrickhentschke6542 I was being sarcastic. It would be a rerelease of the whole system but with those added features. Like the Saturn 4 Ultra has the tilt but the Saturn 4 do not have the vat tilt. If you follow the releases of 3D printing machines you might get my sarcastic joke.
It's awesome that the Calibration mode allows you to specifically set the time, rather than them deciding what the steps will be for you. That allows you a Binary (Quintinary, actually) Search for dialing in a new resin. For example, if consensus is that the optimum print time is somewhere between 3.7 and 4.1, you can do as follows:
Print 1: 3.5, 3.75, 4.0, 4.25
--Two Best: 3.75 & 4.0
Print 2: 3.8, 3.85, 3.9, 3.95
--Two best: 3.95, 4.0
Print 3: 3.96, 3.97, 3.98, 3.99
--Two best: 3.96, 3.97
Print 4: 3.962, 3.964, 3.966, 3.968
--Two best: ????
With _one_ more print, splitting the difference between the two best from print 4, and you've dialed in the perfect print time for that resin to the maximum precision in Chitubox.
Plus, if one of the earlier prints was "perfect" from your perspective, then you're done.
Add in some sort of resin temperature control, and you should have effectively perfect prints every time with only _four_ test prints total.
They disabled this feature on the Saturn 4 (not ultra)
@@matts8023 ...why would they do that? Are the margins on the ultra really that much better?
@@Londubh I imagine so. Classic corporate move. Like pay to use model for a lot of cars these days - you bought the hardware but have to pay subscription to use it.
@@matts8023 My friend's car has heated seats, but you can't use them unless you pay a subscription. That is insane and should be illegal.
Convinced me. Just ordered. Thanks for the amazing videos.
can you test how saturn 4 ultra would print a flexible resin? those resins require higher lift distances while printing so I'm really curious how, if at all, they would print with this tilting mechanism 🤔
I pulled the trigger during your live at launch! Going to be my first resin printer yay! Nice review once again!
Same mate, but my second printer. I've got a mars 3 and love it but I want to print larger projects and the larger build plate has been something I've been looking at for a while. Nearly bought a Saturn 3 last launch but was poor at the time 😂
same here... I was literally starting reasearch on what to buy... and the next day this was released - instant buy^^
LOL, it seems I was not the only one convinced to by one of these.
Hahaha nope, I think we all raid the website. I think Ross is going to have a nice check soon 😂
Wish I didn’t get the mars 4
I was about to preorder this printer based on your review I watched a few days ago. Then I remembered affiliate links and how you deserved my click due to the sheer level of quality and effort contained in this video. So just like pikachu, I chose you and ordered it via your link.
Also I need you to outlive me so that I never have to be without your videos.
K thanks!
Wow, thankyou!!!!!! One of the kindest comments I’ve ever read!!!
@@FauxHammer Seconded. I have just decided to get into Resin printing. And luckily found your channel and will be making my decision based on your reviews and will make sure to use your affiliate links.
Awesome video as always Ross!!! Great Quality!! Honestly, I'm not able to decide if I should get this or the GK2, which one would you recommend me?
I like that you are honest here, this is the best saturn 4 review in the internet (until your next review).
Enough nice word, some points I am interested, if there will be a more in depth video.
1. Does the tilt mechanism make a huge difference, a super thin supports possible.
2. Can you talk more about the "auto level", can I ajust the screws or change the higt of the plattform?
3. Do you think, than its possible to use a flexplate (I know, you dont like them, you cann and will probably skip this question)
Thank you
what i would rather have is a model without the camera at all, I'm a hobbyist printer i don't need time lapses and i don't want to pay the cost of a feature i wont use in the final price tag , it should be a detachable extra like the filters.
Just ordered. Thanks for the review. It's my first printer and I'd very much like an in depth guide please!
Same here, heat isn’t an issue for me and 400$ for a built in one is a deal breaker. Saturn 3 user patiently waiting on this gem to expand my output
Florida man says don't heater me bruh.
Glad you like them! thank you so much!
I really liked this review. You said your overall opinion first, then went into details and the small things they could improve.
There are other coming out this year… keep an eye out.
Love @Kirioth!
Cheers!
Mars 3 pro just crapped out
Don’t feel like replacing parts
Thinking this will be my next printer
cool and interesting review! I liked how indepth and technical it was, but i would suggest to cut down on the stock reaction clips. They are too long and don't add anything but interrupt the flow of your visual narration, maybe add them in an overlay over actual footage if you must.
We keep them to a minimum, there’s genuinely nothing that works better here
Literally just got done purchasing this and the bundle of assessories. I'm a Zbrush artist so looking forward to bringing my sculpts to physical form for my art office!
Seems like the only aspect of this thing that I'm not thrilled about is the gap above the build plate that makes it harder to scrape resin off. Otherwise, that looks fantastic!
same here. I wonder what could we do do make this better?
@@stefanhaupt4947 whip our you Bambu and print a shroud! I suspect one will be available soon.
late to this video but this sold me on picking one of these up to replace my 7 year old Moai 130 which also has a tilting vat.
I think that’s just the bed raising. If this were pressing on the model, I’m sure I would have seen issues
That plate gap is a deal breaker for me as a print shop owner. Trying to make sure I don’t drip resin from a dozen printers with a silly gap like that is just a no-go for me.
Womp womp
you can still buy the S3U or S4
Ok, I was about to buy the GK Two. Should I get this instead? Is the print quality better than the Uniformation?
Ive ordered one myself, first printer so excited to start
Hope you enjoy it!
Is the speed upgrade with the 4 ultra really worth losing build height and being more drippy than the 3 ultra
Best review so far. That build plate seems unnecessarily complicated. I'd rather manually level like before and have a simpler, smaller build plate.
you can still level it manually. but yeah, had they gone with the more enclosed GKTWO approach, more people would have been happier
Excellent review, a note on your final comment. I live in a warm latitude so I am ok not having to pay extra for a VAT heater.
I don’t necessarily care how my printer looks either, but I do wish it had the like green lid. I’ve pre-ordered it and can’t wait for release!
Solid reference at the end there.
been wanting to get Fifth Element in for a while
I got a few screenshots of the printer for the, uh, archives.
Hey FauxHammer, been loving your videos since getting my printer. Question, why do you always pour the resin over the print bed? Is it a "looks good on video" thing or does it actually have some benefit?
Thanks mate, just looks good on video
I been thinking about getting this printer BUT what worries me is the bearing or the aluminum going south...So I think I will go with the Saturn 3 Ultra
It doesn't make sense that the auto leveling is just springs on the platform. Springs alone wouldn't level the platform against the screen since they would only be parallel in the moment the platform is pressed against it and as soon as the platform raises it would go back to whatever position it had previously. During the printing process the platform/part and the bottom of the vat are not touching, they are separated by whatever is your layer height. The just springs statement doesn't make sense mechanically
True
It looks like there's some spring loaded ones (the ones that you can see the head of the screw moving when he squeezes the assembly), and others that have a black cover, I wonder if the ones that have the black cover have some sort of locking mechanism so that the ones with springs push it into the screen and then the ones with the black cover lock it into position.
@@wolfie54321 somebody is going to have to disassemble that build platform. LOL
The vat/screen assembly moves to level to the bed, not the other way around.
Tilt release mechanism came around on Prusa SL-1 couple years ago , good video 👏
Formlabs in 2012 used the same system for the Form 1and drop that system in next model Form 2.
Tilt releases aren't new, they go way back, they're just new for consumer printers. The SL1S starts at $1700.
But also on the lack of light source in printer:
I assume there is too much variation with
- singular point light source giving to dark shadows
- having light next to camera would mean almost no shadows visible and that means less variation to work with
- multiple LEDs would cause crazy shadows like on Elegoo's FMD printers.
- the closer the light source the more crooked the image
I haven't tested it since I don't have the 4 Ultra yet, but I bet You can just put the light source a meter or two from the printer and it will be fine.
XD
Do you know the power of the light source? I feel like that is going to start becoming a distinguishing feature as qol catches up across the board.
It wasn't invented by Prusa, it's been in industrial printing much longer. Prusa only brought it to consumer market first, Elegoo made it affordable.
What a weird thing to comment.
Saturn 4 Ultra
I also need to consider the lifespan of the gk2 nowadays
@@FauxHammer What do you mean by the lifespan.?
I am going to print in my insulated garage, and to be total honest, I have already ordered the GKtwo.
I was just trying to find out if i should cancel my order, and go for the Saturn 4 ultra. 😅
I fear buyers remorse.
Forget not, the Prusa Sl1S had a tilting vat too.
Though I don't know about the inside workings.
You opened the printer up and mentioned it was simple to do so but how to easy is an LCD replacement?
Upgrading from a Saturn S, it’s just time, and the convenience factors are big enough for me that the time savings alone will be worth it.
Just ordered one - thanks for a decent review
we need a saturn 4 ultra vrs saturn 3 ultra video
keep up the good work
Great video, Ross, as always.
At the very least this is not a controlled manner of heating
And yeah, the cleaning is a pain
I second that. I value easier clean up / post processing. I don't understand how your supposed to clean this thing, especially if the upper part of the vat isn't supposed to get wet.
Great review, does the lid let out resin smells?
What led did you use to put in printer? I use my printer in a dark garage and this would be perfect for it for my time lapses
Hey, I preordered the Saturn 4 Ultra and I have to say it’s a very nice looking machine…I’m relatively new to resin printing even though I’m not playing by the rules…LOL
I have an Anycubic Photon D2, and now the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra…I quickly fell in love with resin printing with my D2, so I quickly decided on a bigger build plate and even though I wanted the Jupiter which is no longer available I settled for a midsize build plate instead.
Pulled the trigger during your live launch. Now counting the days until it arrives.
hello between this one and the future m7 Pro from anycubic, which one would you choose? Because I'm very hesitant :)
very good video by the way :)
The Saturn 4 Ultra looks awesome indeed!
I can right now get the Saturn 3 for about ~65% of what the Saturn 4 Ultra would cost and I do be having a hard time figuring out if the better print time + WiFi is worth the extra or not
It’s a hard one for me. I do t know your budget. I know I’d want the ultra over the 3 easily. And I’d save for that. Personally.
@@FauxHammer Fair^^
My planned budget was around what the Saturn 3 would cost and with a nice deal I was very much considering it but now the 4 Ultra came into equation and it do be a very nice machine. It wouldn't change print quality much, but print speed and QoL.
The 3 Ultra I don't think makes sense in my case anyways cause at that point would rather pay that little bit extra and pre-order the new one.
Eitherway, thank you for answering, that was very nice :D Whatever I do end up going for, imma try use one of your affiliate links at least^^
EDIT: a benefit of getting the sat 3 would be that I could spent the extra cash to get a wash & cure since I was not using one before and the post processing.. has been getting annoying
Sincerely,
Orcrist, The Goblin Cleaver
Really want to pull the trigger and have this be my first resin printer. But if the Saturn 4 can deliver same quality prints at 150.00 less then why not. I have my p1s for most of the prints I just want a resin printer for painting models, once in a while
P1P/Saturn 4 Ultra FTW!
That MC light is magnetic, You can secure it with magnets AND even a wireless charger.
Of course they don't have the tilting vat and in the UK it'll be significantly more expensive than the S4U.
anycubic has the worst customer service in the industry
Great vid! Just ordered the Saturn 4 Ultra using your affiliate link! Can’t wait to get this in, cheers!
Awesome, thank you!
Very excited, have to wait until August in Australia but its locked in
Great review, thank you!
This is certainly enough to get my attention, but there are still questions unanswered about the new features that would benefit from a deeper review.
So glad you made this video. I ordered my own and am waiting on it now...
The Mercury is the one to match the Saturn Ultra
