    I literally *just* sold my resin printer because I hated the mess, but if I hadn't already tried resin printing, this would definitely convince me to try it. *So* much easier than mine was... My only hesitation is the build plate. If resin gets inside the hollow portion and the spring mechanism start getting stuck, having to take it apart and cleaning it will be a pain.
      This build plate is a great candidate for a magnetic build plate. Too bad they generally don't work well for large format printers.

    • @newmonengineering
      @newmonengineering 8 месяцев назад

      @lanzer22 because of the plate design I think you can squeeze several strong magnets in between the plates and make it work. If you get strong enough magnets it will probably hold the metal plate, because the tilting bed will have way less suction resistance.. if anything you could probably design a plate with holes for magnets and glue them into a small thin retainer upper resin print. I plan on using my cnc and making an additional plate hopefully that will have some sunken magnets. Can't wait for them to ship it!

    • @lanzer22
      @lanzer22 8 месяцев назад

      @@newmonengineering true that there will be less pull force on the plate. Will definitely experiment with different magnets to see what works. There is a lot of room above the plate for resin clearance so we can put some hefty magnets in there. Though cleaning in between resins would be nasty if I put too many magnets everywhere

      I run my prints through two washes, two different machines. I use the Gktwo in the winter because it has a vat heater. And my elegoo in the summer. I use the elegoo wash station for the initial wash and the Gktwo cleaner, which is far superior because it's hydro sonic. Two washes are best IMHO.

    At 10:50 you can clearly see that the Saturn 3-print has MUCH more details than the Saturn 4-print. The eyebrows and the wrinkle between them are almost invisible on the Saturn 4-print. Also the armor shows much more details on the S3-print. Did you print on the S4 with the High Speed-setting or why has the S4-print such a low quality? Even my old 4k-Elegoo Saturn shows more details.

  • @Starganderfish

    Hopefully you can still go in and adjust the speed, lift and lower settings in the slicer? Auto calibration is nice and all, but different resins and even different models can require different settings and you need to be able to adjust those on a print-by-print basis.
    Excited to see the power resume function. That actually seems like something new that Elegoo figured out on their own, instead of just copying the competition. I wonder if it would work better with the heater installed, so the resin isn't cooling while idle?
    There are questions though. What's with the plate design with the long standoffs allowing resin to pool on top of the plate in an inaccessible space? And a hollow build plate that collects liquid inside and drips it out at random, seems like a recipe for disaster. The portrait orientation touch screen? Why? And it's great that the error calibration detects cured resin floating in the vat but if it still ends up puncturing the FEP, it sounds like they need to calibrate that feature better.

    I'm waiting for Black Friday to purchase a Saturn 4 Ultra with the optional heater for consistent results for production. I'll 3D print a knob so I can raise and lower the lid with one hand. Resin smeared on an acrylic lid looks like hell.
    5:55 - It looks like I'm going to need to create a separate WiFi network for my 3D printers that is air gapped from the internet. I don't like giving internet access to various devices. I don't like the potential for spying (looking at you Big Bambu) but these devices also represent significant privacy and security risks. The printer has a camera. Do you really want that exposed to the entire internet? Who knows what open ports in a 3D printer could be exploited to gain remote access to my WiFi network and all connected devices? I love WiFi enabled printing from the slicer but the security and privacy concerns make that look like a bad decision.

    New Saturn, quality, speed, flip top box, popular printer price.”
    All jokes aside I really like that design. I’ve scratched the hell out of my Mono X’s lid on the Z axis taking it off frequently. If I was in the market for a new printer I’d probably be a buyer, but I think I’ll hold off for the 5 and see if they incorporate a heater into that design since that’s my only true issue with resin printing here is I do it all in a cool basement.

    • @fluxcapacitor
      @fluxcapacitor 9 месяцев назад

      I am in the exact same case and excitation state! I'm currently designing a custom exhaust system too. I managed to run a ⌀40mm PVC pipe vertically down the inside of the drywall of my workshop, as the air extraction unit happens to be located in the attic just vertically from this non-load-bearing wall. The pipe inlet emerges into the room next to where the printer will be, via a 90° elbow passing through a dummy socket cover. It connects through a custom iris shutter mechanism that I'm currently designing, that will allow me to control the amount of air being sucked in, or totally stop the extraction. I decided to use a cheap Chinese replica of a Dyson vacuum hose to connect the printer to this wall "air socket" due to the convenient quick release mechanism. I might add a small activated carbon filter (easy to replace) in order to keep the pipe and the extractor fan in the attic as clean as possible over time (I dunno it this is overkill or not? wrt resin VOCs). If I like the final setup, I'll share it on Printables :)

    Hey, do you have any advice for my problem with the Saturn 4Ultra? My prints are so difficult to remove from the build plate that I almost need a hammer 😂. Warm water helps, but I’d prefer not to have to submerge the entire plate every time.

    Does the printer come with a screen protector already installed?

    Green cover kicks arse! (do not like the charcoal translucent at all) I wonder how much the green cover is.. or of you can order the 4 Ultra with a green cover? Definitely needs a heater!

    Saturn 2 screen went bye bye so I have been debating upgrading or spending the $100+ for the screen. Saturn 4 Ultra looks so nice and easy. How easy is it to replace the screen? I think the Saturn 2 is insane with having to take the whole thing apart.

    Hey Uncle Jessy, I preordered the Saturn 4 Ultra and once I got it I set it up and it didn’t print anything on my first attempt…I haven’t tried anything else yet. I’m actually waiting to get some tips form some of you might be able to provide me.

    I just ran my first print and it said it was running but I checked back 2 + hours later when it said the job was done and there was nothing on the print plate. Any ideas or tips on how to troubleshoot? I'm brand new to 3D printing

    I want to see that heater review before I decide if I want to get back into resin printing with this. My Saturn 2 broke me and I haven't looked at it in almost a year. But before I decide anything, I want to see if that heater works.

    Is this considered a standard or mid size printer?
    For figurines? Not just busts??

    And the one question I still have is..... does resin printing still smell the whole house up? I tried to get into it, and bought one of the older Saturn's some time ago. The smell gave me headaches, and I had to get rid of it.

    so you refered to this as auto leveling, fauxhammer goes pretty hard on that being a missnomer, whats your thoughts on that, does it actualy level the plate with the screen?

    Thanks for the video. Unfirtunaly my satunr 3 Ultra just died and i am looking now for a new printer. I have some questions: Because of the way the print bet is now is ther enot a lot of wasted resin ? By the look of it you cant really reach the top of the printbet the get to the access resin. Another question is if there are still slot for the airpurifier that where part of the satunr 3 ultra. The third question is if there is again the possibility to stuck the printbet vertical in place so that the access resin can drip down into the tank(i really missed this on the S3U.Thanks in advance for the answer.

    the green acrylic look on the saturn 4 makes me want to get into resin printing.
    If i was already into resin printing, i woudlnt get the Ultra, just cuz of the color options. Who needs a tilting tray when you can have a magnificent green machine

    I wonder if the LCD-Displays are now better than the ones from the Ultra 3. I bought mine Ultra 3 last September and I already had to replace the display 4 times! If the Ultra4 would come with a 11" or 12" display and with a resin bed heater I would buy it immediately. Waiting for the Ultra5 or a product from another manufacturer

    How do you find cleaning the build plate between prints? That gap feels like it would be a hassle to clean.
