Those snare hits...it's like a gunshot hitting every 2 and 4. And he's so relaxed. So much control and power...love it.
Total flow and ease in such (potentially) tense music to play! He is a pioneer of the genre, after all.

Billy cobham wayyyy better the list go’s on and on. He is definitely the 3 best metal drummer though. Don’t get me wrong this was just saying that he isn’t the best in the world Dave Lombardo is one of the reasons I even picked up the sticks but yeah. Dave is a great drummer.

It's pretty difficult to determine who is the best or better than someone else considering how many different styles of drumming (and music in general) there are. I find it difficult to compare someone playing metal to someone playing jazz, for example. All drummers you mentioned are good in different ways. :-)

You and me both! I'm not a huge Slayer fan but the best thing happening musically on that stage is this right here. Maybe that played a role in their decision to shortchange him on pay.

Being a good drummer is not only about the diversity of what you play, it's also about the feeling with which you play it, the way you support the rest of the band with your rhythm and your ability to energize the crowd.
Here’s a bit of inspiration for ALL of us. If we put in the energy this dude does into anything we want to achieve in life it would be as good as done... Think about that for a second. Want to learn the drums, watch this guy, want to become a professional snowboarder, watch this guy... want to become a beast in your industry, watch this guy, want to accomplish damn near anything in life, watch this guy. There is much more going on here then just drumming people... want shit to happen in your life, watch this guy before you walk out the door each morning.. and it’ll happen. And if it doesn’t, you weren’t paying close enough ATTENTION. Period.
Dave is going insane behind the drums and then 3:47 casually looks behind him and smiles. It would take every fiber of my body to even play the song at that tempo, and i'm not even mentioning what it would take for me to play those fills and still be in tempo.

Its all about spirit, if all your about is super technical patterns, rythims, theorys, etc.. but don't have that spiritual dance you aint got shit. nothing matters but that spirit in music and Mr Lombardo has that in a huge creative way.

A bittersweet video; despite Dave’s incredible performance, this song was the last ever time Jeff ever played with Slayer, captured brilliantly here in Indio. You can see Tom waiting calmly and hopefully by the drum riser as Jeff takes the last solo. Despite what he went through, he certainly didn’t disappoint.

I thank youtube for coming to existence and provide such a joy watching this dude playing. One of the best to ever grab a stick and slam a drum set and this video shows it. And 30 years from now we can say that he is the best and show the magic to those who didn’t got the chance to see him live.

This was Jeff Hanneman's last performance with slayer. Gary Holt performed the main show then JH came out for south of heaven and angel of death. Wish I could have been there.
the thing about Dave Lombardo, is that he plays this crazy shit but makes it look so easy. he doesn't look tired AT ALL afterwards

Dave Lombardo is not a death metal drummer, so he can't be the best in playing such style. He may have invented DM drumming but he does not play often those most common death metal drum patterns.
He's not a death metal drummer. He's a thrash drummer...at least when he played with Slayer. Now he's a hardcore/punk drummer with Suicidal.

I have seen lombardo in the early ninties and i can say that he is one of those drummers which is getting better and better, he is playing so tight now, in the early day's he seemed to do to much partying on tours.

Hell Yeah I was there that night their set had a pretty Evil vibe to it. It was awesome.
Glad I was there, sadly I had to sit down during half of their set because I made the choice to go to this show while I had a flu, it was worth it.
